of Sanibel Island, Florida, died on Tuesday, December 14, 2010. He was born May 13, 1939, in Groton, Massachusetts, to Nathaniel C. and Margaret (O'Brien) Anderson. He is survived by his wife, Birdie Anderson; his daughter Kathleen McPartlan of Groton; and his sons and their wives: Kristin and Michael Anderson Jr. of Newport and Dunstable, Massachusetts; David and Sara Anderson of Groton; and Christopher and Paula Anderson of Ayer, Massachusetts; by his sister Nancy Irvin of Fort Myers Beach, Florida; his brother N. Carl Anderson Jr. of Pine Island, Minnesota; by six grandchildren: Francis, Katherine, and Megan McPartlan and Alexander, Elisabeth, and Christian Anderson; and two great-grandchildren. He was formerly married to Anita Friedrich Anderson of Groton, who is the mother of his children. After high school, Mr. Anderson entered the GE tool and die maker apprentice program in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, (one of the last of such appointments in the U.S.), then earned a bachelor's degree in business and marketing from Lowell Technological Institute. He was very proud of his apprenticeship and said it rivaled the honorary doctorate he was later awarded by the University of Massachusetts, Lowell. Mr. Anderson launched his business career as a salesman with IBM. After 16 years with IBM, having attained the position of corporate director of strategy evaluation in White Plains, New York, his professional path took him to positions all over the world. He was president of the Japan based NEC and of Nixdorf Corporation of West Germany. He ended his career as president, chairman of the board, and chief executive officer of Hogan Systems, in Dallas, Texas. Mr. Anderson retired to Sanibel Island and Rangeley, Maine. He played as hard as he worked. He loved golf, fishing, and sailing, but his passion was refurbishing old wooden boats and historic homes. He liked to leave everything better than he found it. He was so proud of his son Mike Jr.'s work ethic and dedication to his family. He was equally proud of his Vermont grandchildren: Alex, who graduated from Phillips Academy, Andover, where he played football as Mr. Anderson had in the 1950s; Elisabeth, who graduated from Groton School, where Mr. Anderson's parents had run the laundry for half a century; and Christian, who paved his own way to Holderness School. Mr. Anderson served his community, too. He was a selectman in Groton for many years, serving as chairman. He also served as water commissioner and founder of the distinguished Hollis Street Racquet Club. In Sanibel, he spent much of his time golfing with friends as a member of the prestigious Dewsweepers and commissioner of the Wolf Pack at the Sanctuary Golf Club. A celebration of life was held on Sanibel Island on December 17. Later tributes will follow in Groton and Rangeley. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Mr. Anderson's name to Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust, P.O. Box 349, Oquossoc, Maine, 04964, or to Rangeley Region Health Partnership, P.O. Box 722, Rangeley, Maine, 04970.

He was born November 13, 1953, in Barton. He graduated from Barton Graded School, Lake Region Union High School, and Johnson State College. He also attended Berklee School of Music in Boston for three semesters. His passion was music, and he was fortunate to be able to pursue this career until his untimely death. He played with the Vermont Jazz Ensemble while living in Vermont, and he taught saxophone at Johnson State College before moving to New Orleans. He joined the Gatemouth Brown Band and toured with them, also playing with local jazz and blues bands. In 1985 he moved to Boston where he freelanced at local clubs. In 1989 he and his wife, Karen Leipziger, moved to Nashville where they have lived for the past 222 years. He has played with Buckwheat Zydeco, Michelle Shocked, Duke Robillard, and Shelby Lynn, and toured with Kenny Rogers' Christmas Show and Brenda Lee, and for the last two and a half years played with Delbert McClinton. He has also done numerous sessions with various artists. He traveled all over the U.S., the lower provinces of Canada, Europe, Japan, and Australia. He had a great sense of humor and friends and family have many happy memories of him telling stories of his travels. He had volunteered weekly at the W.O. Smith School of Music for the last 17 years, teaching saxophone to underprivilidged students. He also had many private students. He found he loved teaching and his students. He was not only their teacher but also a friend and confidant. He had also written six instructional books for saxophone for the Hal Leonard Publishing Company. On October 21, a memorial service was held at the W.O. Smith School where friends, family and fellow band members shared their stories about Mr. Taylor, his music, his love and compassion for his friends and family, his great sense of humor, his ready smile, his encouragement to his friends, and his gentle nature, which will be greatly missed. On November 7, a musical tribute was held at B.B. King's club in downtown Nashville. Over 400 people gathered to listen to the bands and performers. Many traveled from out of state to pay their respects. All who performed had either played with Mr. Taylor in various bands, or he had played on their recordings. Their final salute was the playing of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame," by all the horn players in honor of his lifelong love of the Boston Red Sox. Mr. Taylor had just completed a lifelong dream of recording his own CD. He had finished all the tracks and now his wife is completing the project. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Karen Leipziger; his parents, Ad and Lois Taylor, of Barton; his sisters Kathy Trecartin and her husband, Doug, of Central Point, Oregon, Patricia Taylor and her spouse, Pam Skriletz, of Orleans; by his brother Daniel Taylor and his wife, Kelly, and their two sons, Benjamin and Joshua of St. Paul, Minnesota; his mother-in-law Evelyn Leipziger of New York City; and his sister-in-law Deidre Leipziger and her two children Izzy and Kiki of Brooklyn, New York. There will be a graveside service at Westlook Cemetery in Glover in the spring. Donations in his memory may be made to: Dennis Taylor Memorial Fund, W.O. Smith School of Music, 1125 8th Avenue South, Nashville, Tennesee 37203.
