, 80, of Groveton, New Hampshire, died peacefully on Thursday, January 21, 2010, at Morrison Nursing Home in Whitefield, New Hampshire, after a courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Bailey was born December 25, 1929, in Derby, a son of Walter and Marjorie (Phillips) Bailey. He was a 1948 graduate of North Troy High School. He lived in Lancaster, New Hampshire, for several years before moving to Groveton in 1974. He was a member of Orleans Masons Lodge 55 in Barton for 55-plus years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snow machining, ice fishing, four-wheeling, and boating as well as cars, Mack trucks, and construction. He worked as a mechanic from 1967 to 1980 and used to build and own stock cars. He was a member of Winlock Camp, and he loved cats. He was a heavy equipment operator, owning and operating Everett Bailey Construction for many years. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Avis M. (Barber) Bailey, of Groveton; by two sons, Everett Bailey Jr. and his wife, Diane, of West Winfield, New York, and David Bailey of Burlington; by three stepsons: Jack Barber and his wife, Marie, of Orange Park, Florida, Wayne Leno of Maryland and John Leno and his wife, Kathy, of Dalton, New Hampshire; by daughter-in-law Lori Bailey of Groveton; by brother Phillip Bailey and his wife, Corrine, of Glover; by sister Marjorie Anderson of Culpeper, Virginia; and by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; by his son Alan Bailey; by his daughter Betty Bailey; and by his brother Clair Bailey. Funeral services were held January 25 at Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home in Groveton with Pastor Aaron Cox of the Groveton United Methodist Church officiating. , 85, of Newport died suddenly January 22, 2010, in Newport. Mr. Bonneau was born January 31, 1924, in St. Ignace de Standbridge, Quebec, a son of Oliva and Bernadette (Boucher) Bonneau. On October 14, 1952, he married Marie-Paule Leclerc, who survives him. He farmed for 23 years in Newport Center, and he was a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of St. Mary, Star of the Sea, Catholic Church in Newport, and was a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2285. His hobbies included making birdhouses and bird feeders, working on puzzles, and playing cards with his family. He was a member of the North Country Swingers. , 103, of Derby died peacefully January 25, 2010, in Derby. Mrs. Davis was born September 4, 1906, in Charleston, a daughter of Wilson and L. Adaline (Hudson) Hinton. On February 20, 1937, she married William E. Davis, who predeceased her in 1964. She went to business school, beautician school, and Vermont College. She held several jobs including pastry chef, teacher, cook, and bank clerk. She was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was known as "Grammie" to everyone. She loved to embroider and recite poetry. She was always ready to give a helping hand to anyone who could use it. She was very family driven and always enjoyed having her family around. She is survived by her children: Nancy Thompson and her husband, Kenneth, of Rutland, Norman Davis and his wife, Barbara, of Florida, and Carol Wright and her husband, Walter, of Derby; by her ten grandchildren; by 14 great-grandchildren; by one niece; and by two nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Lois Ramdell. , 88, died in Barton on Tuesday, January 19, 2010, after a long illness. Mrs. Ewens was born March 26, 1921, in Sherbooke, Quebec, a daughter of Lawrence and Gertrude (Hayden) Greenland. She spent many years keeping a lovely home for her husbands, George Goulet and Robert Ewens, who both predeceased her. Her greatest pleasure in life was playing golf, and she was a member of the Orleans Country Club for many years. She is survived by her brother Lawrence Greenland of Sherbrooke; by two sisters, Barbara Dion and her husband, Claude, of Lennoxville, Quebec, and Theresa Wilkins and her husband Harley of Sherbrooke; and by several nieces and nephews. , 71, of Newport died January 19, 2010, in Newport, following a long illness. Mr. Lucas was born June 9, 1938, in Derby, a son of Kenneth and Rose (Conn) Lucas. On May 16, 1959, he married Cecile Wood, who survives him. He was honorably discharged from the United States Navy in 1956. He was employed as a machinist at Union Butterfield's in Derby Line. He retired in 1989. He was a member of the Newport City Zoning Board for a number of years. He enjoyed working in his yard, displaying many outdoor Christmas lights, playing cards (especially hearts), being with his family, and driving and cleaning his truck. He is survived by his wife, Cecile Lucas, of Newport; by three children: Terry Lucas and his wife, Sue, of Seattle, Washington, Sherry Walker and her husband, Reinhard, of Derby and Judy Lucas and Michael Mead of Derby; by seven grandchildren: Greg and Rachel Lucas, Neil Walker, Amanda Leget, and April, Ashley and Samantha Mead; by five great-grandchildren: Dayana and Breyniah Leget, Caden Lucas Walker, and Madison and Morgan Davio; by three brothers: Albert Lucas and his wife, Sylvia, of Newport, Earl Lucas and his wife, Jackie, of Florida, and Percy Lucas and his wife, Linda, of Newport; and by several nieces, nephews, and uncles. , 98, of Newport died January 25, 2010, at Newport. Mrs. Moeykens was born April 11, 1911, in Kingsbury, Quebec, a daughter of Calixte and Exilper (Labonte) Champigny. Mrs. Moeykens immigrated to Vermont at age five from Canada and was proud to become a U.S. citizen in 1963. She was lovingly known as "Mama" to her children and "Memere" to her grandchildren. She was a longstanding member of the Ladies of Saint Anne and a faithful member of the congregation at St. Mary, Star of the Sea, Catholic Church in Newport. She and her husband, Julius, raised 13 children, and she was a wonderful cook, baker, and homemaker. She enjoyed picking wild berries and apples and baking pies and bread well into her nineties. She loved being in the woods at hunting camp in Morgan, and she devoted "leisure" time to doing things for others and in prayer. She was adept at many of the arts of country living, including vegetable gardening, canning, quilting, knitting, crocheting, and making soap, jams, pickles, and even wine. She made many of the clothes her children grew up wearing, and taught all of her offspring the importance of making use of everything, being a role model for conservation all of her life. With the help of her family, she was able to live in her own home until she was nearly 98 years old. She is survived by three sisters: Laura Ida Marineau of Montpelier, Juliette Boisvert of Newport, and Anita Folsom of Brownington. She was a lifelong supporter and volunteer of the American Red Cross, including the Northern Vermont Chapter. For the past three years she has held a position with AmeriCorps Volunteers in Service to America at the American Red Cross, Great Bay Chapter, in Portsmouth. She was a member of the Newport Ambulance Service for many years. She had a passion for arts and crafts such as quilting, scrapbooking, jewelry making, and picture taking of her family. She had many loving friends. She is survived by her loving sister Kimberly Major of Newport; by her four children: Scott Martin and his wife, Penny, of Derby, Judy Crowley of Maine, Matthew Martin and his girlfriend, Amy Descheneau, of Derby, and William Martin of Derby Line; and by 13 grandchildren: Gregory, Rodney Jr., Macy, Christopher, Anthony, Abagale, Mickayla, Kody, Brittany, Olivia, Micheal, Kyle, and Dylan. , 89, a longtime resident of Craftsbury, died at Brookside Nursing Home in White River Junction on Saturday, January 23, 2010, with his daughter Roberta and her husband, Gary, by his side. Mr. Wells was born in Craftsbury on September 28, 1920, a son of Peter Wells and Matilda Brow Wells Bibby. He attended school in Craftsbury and moved to Connecticut in the early 1940s, where he worked many years as a salesman for Stanley Tool Company. He married his wife, Caroline Church, on March 10, 1943, in New Britian, Connecticut, where they made their home until the late 1960s when they moved to his home of Craftsbury. He was elected judge of probate for Orleans County in 1978 and served until his retirement. He had served as a side judge for Orleans Country from 1975 until his election in 1978 and was a former justice of the peace and member of the state Republican Committee. He was a proud Vermonter. He led a very accomplished life for having only completed tenth grade. He was a member of Meridian Sun Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons in Craftsbury. He enjoyed a good game of golf and spending time with his daughter, son-in-law, and grandson. He is survived by his daughter Roberta Hodgdon and her husband, Gary, of White River Junction; by his grandson Daniel Hodgdon of Brighton, Massachusetts; and by extended family members. He was predeceased by his wife in February 2004; by his brother Cecil Howard "Pep" Wells; and by sisters Della and Mildred Wells. A funeral service will be held Friday, January 29, at 11 a.m. at the United Church of Craftsbury with the Reverend Alan Parker officiating. In 1976 she married Donald Breault Sr., who survives her. She was a registered nurse and worked at the Manson State Hospital in Massachusetts for 14 years. She retired in 1987. She enjoyed crotcheting, tending her plants and flower gardens, and spending time with her family. She is survived by her husband, Donald Breault Sr., of Island Pond; by four children: Joanne Merrill and her husband, Donald, of East Dorset, Donald Breault Jr. of Houston, Texas, Cinthia Judd and her husband, David, of North Troy, and Tina Lafferty of Island Pond; by five grandchildren; by two great-grandchildren; by her sister Agnes Dow of Manson, Massachusetts; and by several nieces and nephews. , 49, of Westmore died peacefully on Saturday afternoon, January 16, 2010, at home with his family by his side, following a courageous battle against cancer. Mr. Harvey was born March 22, 1960, in St. Johnsbury, a son of Winston and Isabelle (Ewens) Harvey. He was a 1978 graduate of Lyndon Institute. He operated Dale's Automotive in Lyndonville for 25 years. In 2006 he began working in Newport for Columbia Forest Products, where he was a crew leader in the maintenance department. He and his wife, Lynn (Johnson) Harvey, whom he married January 9, 1988, enjoyed building and living in their home in the hills of Westmore. He loved being in the country. His favorite pastimes included fishing, hunting, gardening, football (an avid Steelers fan), baseball, hockey, kayaking, skiing, and visiting his sister and brother-in-law on the outer banks of North Carolina. Most important to him was the time he had with his family, his friends, and his pets. A kind and loving man, he was always ready to help his friends and neighbors when in need. Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Lynn Harvey, of Westmore; four children: Laura Lamonda and her husband, Scott, of Orleans, Dana Harvey and his wife, Tiffany, of Orleans, April Harvey and her fiance, Todd Sumner, of Concord, and Kristen Harvey of Westmore; three grandchildren: Isabella, Kyler, and Masyn; his sister Diane Pickett and her husband, John, of Poplar Branch, North Carolina; his mother- and father-in-law, Bob and Carol Williams, of Westmore; four brothers-in-law: David Johnson and his wife, Lynn, of Topsham, Dan Johnson and his wife, Wendy, of Essex Junction, Ben Williams and his wife, Renee, of Lyndon, and Dustin Williams and his wife, Nancy, of Sutton; several nieces and nephews; many aunts, uncles, and cousins, including his cousin Eileen "Missy" Beliveau of Lyndon, who was like a sister to him; and many good friends and neighbors, including his two best friends, Jim Cotter of Oregon and Peter Carlton of Sutton. On June 25, 1940, she married Albert LeMay, who predeceased her on April 30, 1992. She was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church in Derby Line. On Mondays she went to adoration at St. Edward's, and she enjoyed traveling with the Community Circle and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Forever Young Club, where she played cards and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. , 94, of Newport died January 14, 2010. Mr. Veilleux was born in St. Odilon, Quebec, on June 18, 1915, the oldest of four children born to Joseph and Albertine (Lessard) Veilleux. Hoping to become a priest, he entered the Trappist Monastery at age 19, but due to illness left at 23 years old. He worked various jobs during the Great Depression, including the foundries in Springfield. In 1953, he married Yvonne Gonthier of Berlin, New Hampshire, moved to Newport, and worked as a store clerk for Roy Valley. A few years later, he became the bookkeeper for Poutre Coal and Oil, Blue Seal Grain, and Newport Fuels. He was an avid gardener and maintained a large garden on Herrick Street. He and his wife were devoted to their family, caring for and opening their home when the need arose. He and his wife and his sister Martha cared for Jeannette (Yvonne's sister) and Albertine (Charlie and Martha's mother) until they died. Along with Tim Daley, a longtime family friend and personal care provider, he cared for Martha, who died of cancer in 2000, and for Yvonne, who died of respiratory failure in 2005. Above all, he was a devout Catholic. He was a member of Gibbons Council Knights of Columbus 2285 and a fourth-degree member of Gibbons Council 1157 as well as a recognized champion of the right to life movement. Kindness, selflessness, and a willingness to help were the hallmarks of Charlemagne J. Veilleux. He is survived by one sister, Gisele Lamoureux, of Feeding Hills, Massachusetts; by nieces and nephews; by his son Anthony "Tony" Veilleux and his companion, Donna Coburn, of Brownington; and by his daughter Corrine Desjardin and her husband, James, of Newport. He was predeceased by his wife, Yvonne; by his sister Martha; and by his brother Roland Vayer. Spring interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Newport. , 18, of Newport died Friday, January 15, 2010, in Newport. His life ended tragically. Mr. Wagner was born May 21, 1991, in Newport. He had a great love for the outdoors, and he could be found fishing on the causeway and in winter on the bay catching fresh perch for his family and friends. Rain or cold weather did not deter him from his passion for fishing. He loved the lake both for fishing and swimming. Need assistance cutting or stacking wood? He would be the first to volunteer, and he was someone people could always count on when help was needed. Spring was a special time with the arrival of sugaring, and he assisted with gathering sap, filling the sugarhouse woodshed, and boiling, including hot dogs cooked in the boiling sap. Summer fun included riding his bike around Newport and fishing on Lake Willoughby. He was proud of his family, and he would make every effort to assist with housekeeping chores. He was loved and will be sadly missed by his parents, Edna and Raymond Wagner Jr.; by five sisters: Julie Wagner, Lisa Wagner, Christian Wilford, Donna Corkins, and Raya Conley; by his brother Raymond Wagner Jr.; by brother-in-law Wol James of West Hartford, Connecticut; and by several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. He respected and enjoyed his meetings with James Martin, his attorney and friend, and he will be deeply missed by his Eagle Eye Farm family and the classmates with whom he interacted during the past several years. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, January 20, at the Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Memorial Chapel on Lake Road in Newport where a celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 21, with the Reverend Alan Magoon officiating. , 15, of Craftsbury died unexpectedly January 14, 2010. Stephen was the beloved son of Jessica Locke and Anthony Boyce of Craftsbury and Kevin Willey and Shannon Daniels of Irasburg. He attended Craftsbury Schools where he was a freshman. He was an avid outdoorsman, whether it was hunting, fishing, trapping, or being at the racetrack. His love for the game was undeniable. He enjoyed working on the farm and loved to be out on his snowmobile with friends and family. He is survived by his parents; by his dear sister Savanah Boyce; by his grandparents, who loved him dearly: William and Judy Locke, Pam and Reg Allen, Nate and Mary Jo Willey, and Albert and Judy Boyce; by great-grandparents: David and Audrey Reed, Everett and Alice Willey, Nancy and Gordie Eldreed, and Everett and Mary Boyce; by extended family members: Aunt Nonna, Unc, Brandon and Blair Locke, Auntie Amanda and Matt, Uncle Wayne, Kristie, and Karina Willey, Dawn, Lucien and Matthew Mason, David Daniels, Amanda Daniels, Donna Daniels, and Chris Daniels; by his girlfriend, Nichole Cochran; by his best friend, Mike Menard, who will miss him dearly; and by many other family and friends who will not let him be forgotten. , 78, of Morgan, formerly of Windsor, Connecticut, died December 26, 2009, at home. Mrs. Baker was born to William and Catherine (Vedeski) King in Hartford, Connecticut. She lived in Windsor most of her life before retiring with her husband, Leonard, to Morgan in 1987. She will be remembered most for her keen and dry wit. She enjoyed her lottery scratch tickets and cooking shows. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, doing puzzles, and making afghans for all the family, including grandchildren. She and her husband enjoyed traveling with friends to the Caribbean on cruises. She especially loved her family and their visits. She was predeceased by her parents; by her sister Marion King; and by her brother William King. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Leonard Baker, of Morgan; by her children: Catherine Davignon of Winchester, Connecticut, Debra Baker of Canaan, Connecticut, Lori Baker of Goshen, Connecticut, and Douglas Baker of Otis, Massachusetts; by four grandchildren; by five great-grandchildren; and by several nieces and nephews. , 47, of North Troy died December 30, 2009, in Newport. Mrs. Lawyer was born March 1, 1962, in Newport, a daughter of Patricia (Horn) Beaudry and Robert Beaudry. On June 30, 2004, she married Michael Lawyer, who survives her. She graduated from North Country Union High School in 1980 and attended Champlain College in 1981. She was employed by North Country Hospital in the billing and patient registration departments for ten years. She enjoyed gardening, painting, and snowmobiling. She was an equine enthusiast, loved her animals, and especially enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren. She was a member of the American Legion Post 28 Auxiliary of North Troy. She is survived by her husband, Michael Lawyer, of North Troy; by three children: Nedah Barrett of Lyndonville, Nabil Alanbar of Waterbury, and Kirstin Lawyer of Lyndonville; by her mother, Patricia Beaudry, of North Troy; by three grandchildren: Cameron and Jasmine Barrett and Myles Alanbar; and by her brother Lawrence Beaudry and his wife, Lynne, of Hardwick. She was predeceased by her father, Robert Beaudry, on December 17, 2008. Funeral services were held January 2 at St. Vincent de Paul Church in North Troy with the Reverend Henry Mlinganisa celebrating a Mass of Christian Burial. Spring interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery in North Troy.
