He graduated from Montpelier High School in 1966 and attended UCLA Berkeley in California where he received a master's degree in behavioral psychology. He was a well known personal accountant. He served time in the U. S. Air Force and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was an avid sports fan, and he enjoyed bowling, fishing, golfing, and traveling. He is survived by two daughters: Jamie DeLude and her husband, Juan Aristizabal, of Malden, Massachusetts, and Jasmine DeLude of Lyndon Corner; by a granddaughter, Juliana Gentley; by his beloved companion of seven years, Normie Gagne, of Newport; by her two sons: Alain and Donald Berube; by his two sisters: Mary Clifford of Northfield and Diana DeLude of Montpelier; by his nieces April DeLude and Crystal Barrows; by his nephews Eric Clifford and Bryson DeLude; and by his dog Misty as well as several close friends. , 90, of Derby died on September 1, 2010, in Newport. She was born April 23, 1920, in Orleans, a daughter of Elmer and Greta (Dunham) Hilliard. On December 14, 1940, she married Phil Drake Sr. who predeceased her in 1996. Mrs. Drake was a member of the Navy Grange and the American Legion Auxiliary where she was also past president. She hooked and braided rugs, and she also hooked Currier and Ives pictures into rugs and sewed for many different people. She enjoyed growing flowers, and she was a caregiver for several different family members. She enjoyed her independence, including obtaining her driver's license at the age of 70. She was delighted with family gatherings and visits. She is survived by her children: Phil Drake and his wife, Theresa, of Newport, Marvin Drake and his wife, Barbara Strich, of St. Johnsbury, and Gary Drake and his wife, Alice, of Fletcher; by seven grandchildren: Amanda Kennedy and her husband, Todd, of Virginia, Abbey Drake of Vermont, Paula Gratton and her husband, Ronald, of Vermont, Scott Drake of New York, Douglas Drake and his wife, Tammy, of North Troy, Rhonda Drake of Vermont, Zander Drake and his companion, Elizabeth Rowley, of New Hampshire; five great-grandchildren: Tia Drake of Newport Center, Nathaniel Drake of North Troy, Emma Drake of North Troy, Paul Kennedy of Virginia, and Josephine Drake of Bethlehem, New Hampshire; and by a sister Dorothy Whipple of Newport. She was predeceased by two brothers, Maynard and Warren Hilliard. , 86, of Derby died on September 2, 2010, in Newport. She was born June 25, 1924, in Kateville, Quebec, a daughter of Albert and Florence (Paquette) Mongeau. On August 21, 1948, she married Armand Gagner who predeceased her in 2002. Mrs. Gagner was very dedicated to her husband of over 50 years, and she loved caring for her family. She is survived by her children: Robert Gagner and his wife, Lisa, of Ascutney and Jocelyne Capron of Derby; by seven grandchildren; by four great-grandchildren; two brothers: Gaston Mongeau and his wife, Wanita, of Quebec and Valdor Mongeau and his wife, Denise, of Stanstead, Quebec; by three sisters: Claire Prince of Sherbrooke, Quebec, Aline Cloutier and her husband, Real, of North Carolina, and Fernande Langevin and her husband, Adrien, of Montreal, Quebec; and by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Lawrence Mongeau, and by a sister, Realta. , 80, of Clarendon died peacefully on September 4, 2010, at the Rutland Regional Medical Center with all her children and family members by her side, following a long illness. She was born on June 3, 1930, in West Glover, a daughter of Roy and Anna (Diette) St. Onge. She had three sisters and two brothers. She went to Barton Academy. She married Ralph Francis Loomis Sr. on September 30, 1950, and they had six children together. In 1978, Mr. and Mrs. St. Onge established Walker Mountain Sales and Service in Clarendon. For the past 18 years they worked side by side with their son Roger who will carry on the family business. Mrs. Loomis loved sewing, making quilts, snowmobiling, and reading. She had a passion for canning and for photo memories. She was a member of the St. Patrick's Church. She loved and looked forward to family gatherings and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Survivors include two daughters: Gail Foust and her husband, Calvin, of Jamestown, New York, and Geannine White and her husband, Charlie, of Tinmouth; four sons: Ralph (Jinx) Loomis Jr. and his wife, Nancy, and Roy Loomis and his wife, Amy, all of West Rutland, Roger Loomis and his wife, Kelly, and Ross Loomis and his wife, Wendy, all of Shrewsbury; 18 grandchildren: Sarah, Ashlee, Casey, Samantha, Cy, Jody, Jessie, Chelsea, Alexis, Kaylin, Brendon, Josh, Kiera, Ryan, Mitchell, Logan, Jordan and Alyssa; five great-granddaughters: Sadie, Lauren, Maddison, Lacey and Gavyn; one great-grandson, Hunter; with another great grandson Colton on the way; a sister Vi Adams of Texas; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband on September 6, 2009, also by two sisters Kay Sheehe and Edna Hill; two brothers Charles St. Onge and Fred St. Onge. , 84, of Citrus Springs, Florida, died on September 1, 2010, at his home. A native of Derby, he was born August 9, 1926, a son of Guy V. and Luella (Tice) Robbins. He was a retired supervisor and machinist for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft. Mr. Robbins served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 and was a life member of the Edward Penno VFW Post #4864 of Citrus Springs. He was a 46-year member of American Legion Post #197 in Marlborough, Connecticut, and a member of LST 494 Organization of World War II Shipmates. One of his great loves was golf, and he was a member of the Citrus Springs Golf and Country Club and a former member of the Chanticlair Golf Course in Colchester, Connecticut. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Bertha H. Robbins, of Citrus Springs; his sons Randy G. Robbins of Citrus Springs, Alan D. Robbins and his wife, Linda, of Andover, Connecticut, and William S. Robbins and his wife, Laurel, of Marlborough; by a brother Milton Robbins and his wife, Beverly, of Meridianville, Alabama; by sisters Frances Taylor and Ruth Marsh, both of Derby, and Marion Bates of Bradenton, Florida; by seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was predeceased by a son Gregg Robbins, in 1954, and a great-grandson Brandyn Robbins in 1999. A memorial service will be held on September 13 at the Fero Funeral Home in Beverly Hills, Florida.

, 84, died on August 29, 2010, at his home in Green Valley, Arizona, from congestive heart failure. He was born July 23, 1926, in Winooski. He married Kathleen (Kitty) Cook on June 19, 1954. They lived in Essex Junction and Morgan before retiring to Green Valley. Mr. Sprout served in the Marine Corps in World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 38 years, ending his career as postmaster in Essex. Mr. Sprout was a dedicated family man. He spent many years coaching and supporting sports in the Essex Junction area. His lifelong passion for trout fishing earned him many friends, especially along the banks of his favorite fishing river, the Willoughby. He was a proud member of American Legion Post #23 of Orleans and was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans of Orleans County #22. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Harriet; his brothers Frank and Charles; and his sisters Anne, Betty and Charlotte. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen, of Green Valley; his sons Greg and his wife, Donna, of Bluffton, South Carolina, and Jeffrey and his wife, Elizabeth, of Underhill; by daughter Cynthia of Tucson, Arizona; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and special nephew Roger Elkins. There will be a celebration of his life during the spring trout run on the Willoughby River with details at a later date. , 23, died unexpectedly at his home in Fairgrove, Michigan, on Monday, August 30, 2010. He was born August 1, 1987, in Concord, New Hampshire, a son of Robert L. Wesoja Jr. and Shannon (Boudreau) Wesoja. Mr. Wesoja made friends everywhere he went. He spent many days, weeks, and sometimes months with Nana and Grampa Wesoja, and he enjoyed working for Gram and Pepe. He loved being in Vermont but never could stay away from New Hampshire for very long. Even after moving to Michigan with his mom and siblings, he consistently made trips back East. He loved being with his friends, making new friends, dirt bike riding, listening to country music, and four-wheeling. He is survived by his father and stepmother, Robert and Tami Wesoja Jr.; stepbrothers Cody and Connor and sister Caylin of Irasburg; his mother, Shannon Boudreau Wesoja; his brother Thomas and sister Kylie of Fairgrove; paternal grandparents Sandy and Robert Wesoja Sr. of Webster, New Hampshire; maternal grandparents Gary and Dora Boudreau of Reese, Michigan; uncles Warren, Chris and Eddie Wesoja and Shaun Boudreau, all of New Hampshire; aunt Sara Boudreau of Michigan; and many close cousins throughout New Hampshire, Vermont and Michigan who looked up to him and loved spending time with him, especially four-wheeling with Christopher and dirt biking with Clint, Michael, Casey and Corey. James Ronald Bothwell Jr.

, 64, of Derby Line died on Sunday, August 22, 2010, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center from complications from cancer. He was born in Burlington on September 3, 1945, a son of James Ronald Bothwell Sr. and Mary Ruth Haley. Mr. Bothwell joined the Naval Reserves in 1963. In 1964 he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp and served his country honorably. His bravery in the Vietnam War awarded him many decorations including two Purple Heart medals, a Good Conduct Medal, and a Rifle Sharpshooter Medal. Upon his honorable discharge, he continued to serve his country as a U.S. Merchant Marine. He also served with the Vermont National Guard and earned his degree in criminal justice. In January 3, 2006, he retired from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection after 26 years of service. In those years he was a certified firearms instructor. Mr. Bothwell enjoyed golfing, reading, mechanics, and family. He and his wife RVed throughout the U.S. and spent the winter months in Florida. He was a member of the DAV, the American Legion, VFW, and the Eagles. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Pamela Bothwell, whom he married on October 11, 1969; by his four children: James Bothwell of Montpelier and his daughter Sadie, Brad Bothwell of Newport and his wife, Tammy, son Tanner and step-children Dillion, Bobbi, and Nick Nobaris, daughter Jennifer Lund of Bergen, Norway, and her husband, Christian, and their daughters Maia and Sofia, and son Chad Bothwell of New York City; by his sister Diane Ledoux of Burlington; his brother David Robert Bothwell of Savannah, Georgia; by his aunt Kay Lathrop and uncle Bobby King, both of Burlington; as well as several brother- and sisters-in-law, cousins, and nieces and nephews. , 92, of the Newport Health Care Center and formerly of Holland, died on August 27, 2010, in Newport. He was born March 4, 1918, in Newport Center, a son of Raymond and Myrtie (Pettingill) Bowen. On November 4, 1945, he married Evelyn Graves who predeceased him on July 26, 2002. Mr. Bowen served his country during World War II. At one time, he was a driver for General Douglas MacArthur. He loved fishing and hunting with his grandsons, and he very much enjoyed working with his son on his race car. He worked at Butterfield's Tap and Die for may years and for Newport Cablevision. He also did carpentry work. He is survived by five children: Don Bowen and his wife, Rosemarie, of Orleans, Dolores Niles and her husband, Frank, of Newport Center, Deborah English of West Charleston, Winky Crowe of Derby, and Delsaye Bowen and her companion, Chris Hackett, of Derby Line; by 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Delight Sanville, on May 5, 1999; by his grandson Chad Crowe on December 30, 1993; by two brothers, Arland Bowen Sr. and Stanley Bowen; and by his sister Marjorie. , 86, of Newport died on August 28, 2010, in Glover. She was born May 30, 1924, the third child of Hawley and Marjory (Wheatley) George. She attended Thetford Academy and Lyndon Normal School and taught in Glover and Westmore. In 1947, she married Neil Brooks, who predeceased her in 1974. Over the years, she worked various jobs. In Glover, she worked at the Busy Bee, Cook's Poultry, and at the store and post office. She was also church treasurer, custodian of the church and town hall, and headed the neighborhood collections for flower memorials. She also worked in Barton at Moore's Market. After her husband's death, she moved to Newport where she acquired more friends through her employment and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. In Newport she managed the senior meal site for many years. She also managed the governor's mansion while she lived there. She was a volunteer driver for Rural Community Transportation, making house calls to shut-ins. She enjoyed participation in the variety shows of old times and also the jam sessions with friends from Newport Place where she lived until she went to the Union House in Glover. She looked forward to those after being in the nursing home. She is survived by two children: Donna Dopp and son-in-law Lawrence of Barton, and Penny Brooks of Plainfield, New Hampshire; by three grandchildren: Kevin Dopp and his friend Cheryl of Derby Line, Corey Dopp Sr. and his wife, Cheryl, of Barton and Melissa Dopp of St. Johnsbury; by the following great-grandchildren: Corey Dopp Jr., Arion Dopp, Ashley and Bradley Dopp, and Jeremy Buckland; and by grandcats Gladdie, Bert, and LoulouBob; and by granddog Tootsie. , 24, of Newport Center died suddenly in Troy on August 29, 2010. He was born September 13, 1985, in Newport, the beloved son of Karen Hisman and the late Dean Hisman. He was employed as a grade foreman at the Vermont Site Works in Stowe. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling, and was generally an outdoors type of a guy. Mr. Hisman liked to work but especially liked to play. He was a very outgoing person who enjoyed family and friends and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone. He was in the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War and received two Purple Hearts. He held memberships with the Disabled American Veterans and the Military Order of the Purple Heart. His hobbies included fishing, reading, and working on his computer. , 21, of Walden, died on August 22, 2010, as a result of injuries sustained in a battle in Afghanistan. He was born on October 19, 1988, in Denville, New Jersey. He moved to Walden in August of 1990 with his mom. He went to Walden Elementary School and graduated from Hazen Union High School in 2007. He played soccer, basketball, and baseball throughout high school. He joined the Vermont Army National Guard during his junior year. Upon graduation, he spent one year at the University of Colorado at Boulder. In 2009, he was activated for deployment to Afghanistan. Mr. Southworth enjoyed all aspects of life. He loved to be around family and friends. He was always willing to help anyone in need. He loved children and German shepherds. He had a special love for the game of baseball and a strong need to serve his country. He is survived by his mom and dad, Julie and Michael Southworth; by brothers Matt and Robert Southworth; grandparents Zollie and Maren Altman of South Wheelock and Keith and Kathleen Southworth of West Pawlet; by aunts, uncles and cousins, who held a special place in his heart. He also leaves behind his "brothers," still deployed in Afghanistan. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, September 1, at 10 a.m. in the Hardwick Hazen Union gym. Interment with full military honors followed in the Main Street Cemetery Hardwick. Contributions in Mr. Southworth's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.

, 55, of St. Johnsbury died on August 21, 2010, in Lebanon, New Hampshire. She was born May 19, 1955, in Newport, a daughter of Gordon and Berdena (Macie) Maxwell. She is survived by her companion and caregiver, Stephen Valeika; her children: Ashley Hutchinson and her husband, Eric, of Missouri, Lynsey "Bryn" Whipple of San Francisco, California, and Ryan Whipple and his wife, Dana, of St. Johnsbury; her mother, Berdena Maxwell, of Derby; by her three grandchildren: Anastasia, Bella and Ezekiel, all of Missouri; by her brother Barry Maxwell of Derby; her sister Kim Choquette and her husband, Dennis, of Derby; and by nieces and nephews Sean, Cody, and Jamie Maxwell, and Matthew and Derek Choquette. Ms. Whipple loved her cat, and she had many special friends including Paulette Webster. The one thing she loved the most were her children. She was very proud of all of them. She loved people and always wanted everyone to be happy. She could find the good in everyone. If she'd been rich, she would have given a gift to everyone. She did not have a lot of hobbies but she did love to yard sale. She would find little treasures at all of them. Knickknacks, stuffed animals - they were all precious to her. The show Hoarder was probably created just for her. Funeral services were held on August 31 at the New Beginnings Christian Church in St. Johnsbury with Pastor Rick Menard officiating.
