....show VERGENNES/SOUTH PALM BEACH, Fla. - John David Taft, 72, of Vergennes and South Palm Beach, Fla. died unexpectedly of heart failure on Oct. 18, 2010. He leaves behind his loving wife, Linda Bodette Taft; four saddened daughters and their loving families, Sarah O'Hara, her husband, Ed and children, Megan, Rebecca and Libby, Carrie Hathaway, her husband, David (Uncle Putt) and daughter, Grace, Alison Johnson, her husband, Lyle and son, Max, and Petrona Tomas, her husband, Juan and daughter, Jackelin; and many nieces, nephews, and all the others who called him Dad. He is survived by his sisters, Luella Linehan, Cynthia Wilcox, and Joann Levack. He was predeceased by his sister, Connie Zeiller; and brothers, Russell, William and Ronald Taft. He loved his family and friends dearly. We will all remember him for his gift of teaching and enveloping family, friends and strangers alike in his loving embrace. He was a man of few words, but his actions in serving people in need inspired us all. May John be remembered by having people adopt his passion for paying it forward, hugging their families and reaching out to others with helping hands. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 29 at St. Peter's Church, So. Maple St. in Vergennes. There will be no calling hours. ....show UNDERHILL - Donald Eric Tall of Underhill, age 71, died battling an extended illness at his home on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010. Donald (Don) was born May 7, 1939 in Ogdensburg, N.Y. A graduate of the Ogdensburg Free Academy High School, Don attended college for a short time, then served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era. Working chiefly on submarines, he was honorably discharged and afterward spent most of his career as a Nuclear Engineer. Returning to college in 1991, he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Adult Education from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, Tenn. at the age of 55. He graduated Salutatorian of his class. He later retired as a Safety and Training Consultant in his field. A man of many interests and talents, Don was seldom without working on some project. He especially enjoyed woodworking. Inherently a teacher, he loved to pass on his experience to younger people. He was a member of the American Legion of Colchester, and Calvary Baptist Church of Essex Junction. Don was predeceased by his parents, Eric G. and Emily Tall of Ogdensburg, N.Y.; and sisters, Marian Sayeau of Ogdensburg, N.Y. and Marilyn E. Hill of Texas. Don is survived by his loving wife, Lorraine (Lori) C. Tall, of 49 years; his son, Donald R. Tall and wife, Deanna, and their three children, Christopher, Marissa and Cassandra, all of Underhill; and his son, Stephen J. Tall of Burlington. He is also survived by his brother, Richard E. Tall and wife, Martha, of Payson, Ariz. Don's viewing will be held at Corbin and Palmer Funeral Home on Pleasant St., Essex Junction on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010. Funeral services will be held at Calvary Baptist Church in Essex Junction on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010 at 11 a.m. Interment will be at the Ogdensburg Cemetery, Ogdensburg, N.Y. on Dec. 3, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. Rev. ....show BURLINGTON - Florence Raymond Tasetano, of Madrid, N.Y., died at 11:45 a.m. on Friday, January 1, 2010, at Mary Fletcher Hospital in Burlington, Vt. Florence was born in New Jersey and grew up in Burlington Vt. after the death of her father. She attended what was then known as Johnson Teachers' College (now Vermont State College). Following graduation, she accepted a position as an elementary school teacher in Lisbon, N.Y.. While at college, she met her future husband, Joseph A. Tasetano. They were married for 48 years and both taught in Lisbon for 35 years. Florence enjoyed gardening, canning and preserving the products of their garden, knitting and sewing, photographing the flowers in the garden, and e-mailing the photos. She enjoyed cooking and she entered many of her recipes in cookbooks for local churches and the Lisbon Fire Department. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Tasetano, her sisters, Gladys Sweet of Colchester, Vt., and Harriet Hershey of East Windsor, Conn.. She leaves several nieces and nephews. She had a kind and generous nature and will be sorely missed by family and friends. Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

....show HYDE PARK - Arlene Moodie Boyea Tatro, 76, died peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010 in Copley Hospital in Morrisville with her loving family by her side. She was born July 20, 1934 in Stowe, the daughter of Roger and Ruth Titus Moodie. She married Edward Tatro on March 30, 1971 in Morrisville. Arlene was a 1952 graduate of Stowe High School. She worked in the banking industry for 35 years before retiring from Chittenden Trust Company as a head teller. Arlene truly loved her husband and family and cherished her time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed socializing with her friends and classmates. She also liked to cook, read and knit. One of her joys in life was listening to country and western music. She loved the activities at The Manor (especially music) and was an official volunteer assistant. Arlene was a Boston Celtics and Red Sox fan. She was also a terrific organizer and planner even as her health continued to decline. Christmas was a favorite time of year when she and Eddie enjoyed hosting their annual Christmas Breakfast. Arlene is survived by her husband, Edward; children, Cathy (Boyea) Burgess and husband, Gary, of Shaftsbury; Alan Boyea and wife, Ann, of Stowe; Jackie Lundie and husband, Michael, of Terryville, Conn.; Shauna Ostrom and husband, Clark, of Great Falls, Mont.; and Darrin Tatro of Johnson; nine grandchildren; four greatgrandchildren; a sister, Mamie Sweetser and husband, Bill, of Stowe; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and two brothers, Roland Moodie and Stanton Moodie. Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 31, 2010. ....show WHITEHALL, N.Y. - Mrs. Beulah Lorraine Taylor, 86, died suddenly at her home in Whitehall, N.Y. on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2010 after a long illness. Beulah was born Oct. 7, 1924 in Richmond, the daughter of William H. and Cora A. (Gillette) Gillette. She was a graduate of Richmond High School with the class of 1942. She married Frederick E. "Fred" Taylor on Sept. 3, 1949. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Fred E. Taylor of Whitehall, N.Y.; her six children, Shelia Lee, Linda Lane, Launee Salamin and Kyle Taylor, all of Fair Haven, Kelly Taylor, Lacey Young of Slidell, LA; her sister, Shirley Rochelle of Sunderland. Also survived by her nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; a niece, two nephews and a cousin, Grace Casey of Hinesburg. She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Gillette. There will be no visiting hours. Private graveside services will be conducted at the convenience of her family. ....show SHELBURNE - Howard L. Tebeau, 82, of Shelburne, died at Fletcher Allen Health Care, with his family by side on Thursday, April 15, 2010. He was born in Essex Center, on March 31, 1928, the son of Howard and Catherine (Lavigne) Tebeau. He attended school in Essex, Ctr. He later married Lorraine (Ploof) Tebeau in Oct. of 1950. Together they raised seven children. Howard was employed much of his life at a variety of jobs including the Winooski Woolen Mill, and retired after 30 years at General Electric. He enjoyed days spent at the Burlington Waterfront, family gatherings, visiting with friends, and watching his grandchildren grow. Howard never met a stranger he couldn't strike up a conversation with. He looked forward to the Champlain Valley Fair, where he was sure to meet up with his vast network of friends. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing over the years. He would spend hours sharing his stories about his life experiences with family and friends. He is survived by his seven children; Sandra and Dealton Jarvis of Essex, Debra Westover of Waitsfield, Brenda and Dave Carpenter of Charlotte, Donald and Mary Tebeau of Burlington, Rhonda Tebeau and York Sherry of Colchester, Sheila and Jeff Towne of South Hero, and Darren Tebeau of Waterbury; nine grandchildren, Eric, Brent and his wife Melissa, Kyla, Lisa, Sierra, Alicia, Savanah, Jessica and Amanda; and two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Aidan. Howard is also survived by two sisters, Janice Robar, and Carol and her spouse, Rod Douglas. He was predeceased by his parents and eight sisters. ....show ST. ALBANS - Anita B. Therrien, 81, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, Oct. 4, 2010, in the St. Albans Health Care Center. Anita was born in Highgate on Nov. 25, 1928, the daughter of the late Victor and Yvonne (Gagne) Bilodeau. On Feb. 17, 1953 she married Paul E. Therrien, who predeceased her on Feb. 26, 2009, after 56 years of marriage. Anita graduated from Highgate High School. While in high school, Anita took on an unusual task for a woman in her day and drove a school bus. During the summer before graduation, she worked as a Candy Striper at Fanny Allen Hospital. After graduation and while employed at Chez Paul's Restaurant on Lake St. in St. Albans, she met her future husband, Paul. After Chez Paul's, she worked at Guay's Bakery and later at the Bristol Manufacturing Company as a seamstress. She then worked at Fonda Container and remained there for 14 years, after which she and Paul ran their own grocery store, Therrien's Market, on Barlow St. for the next 10 years. Along with the grocery store, Paul and Anita owned apartment houses throughout Franklin County and also Therrien's Mobile Home Park in Highgate. Anita was an accomplished seamstress who made her daughter's wedding dress, among other formal and informal garments throughout her life. She loved crafts of any kind and was a leader in her Florida craft groups while she and her husband spent winters there for over 20 years. Anita also had an absolute love of portrait photography and always carried a camera with her, ready to snap a picture of family or friends at any given moment. One very strong quality which Anita possessed was her intuition, which she followed closely, right to her dying days. She had a special bond with her beloved granddaughter, Jen, whom she muttered her last words, "I'm going to sleep now." She will be greatly missed by her family and anyone who was touched by her persistent jolly nature. Anita was a former member and director of the Hi-Swans Senior Center in Swanton and was a former member of the Franklin County Senior Center. Anita is survived by her two daughters, Susan Dunbar of St. Albans and Denise Beers of Williston; her granddaughter, Jenniffer "Jen" Dunbar of St. Albans and her long term boyfriend, Ryan Deuso; her grandson, Jason Dunbar of St. Albans; and her great-grandchildren, Arianna and Victoria Dunbar. She is also survived by her sisters, Doris Nadeau, Theresa Blouin, Pauline Greenia, Louise Smith and her husband, Alton, and Alise Estell and her husband, Roger; her brothers, Lionel "Lee" Bilodeau, Germain "Jimmy" Bilodeau and his wife, Gisele, and Reginald Bilodeau and his wife, Sue; her sisters-in-law, Diane Rideout, Claire Therrien and Jeannine Ostiguy; her brother-in-law, Rosaire Gagne; and several nieces and nephews. Anita was predeceased by her husband, Paul; her parents, Victor and Yvonne (Gagne) Bilodeau; her sisters, Rachel Gagne and Gisele Smith; her brothers, John, Donald, Norman and Andre Bilodeau; her son-inlaw, Mark Beers; her sistersin-law, Rita Rexford, Maria Bilodeau, and Donna Anderson; and her brothersin-law, John Nadeau, Verle Greenia, Octave Blouin and Gerald Ostiguy. ....show ST. ALBANS - Mrs. Doris Cota Thibault, age 98, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010 in the St. Albans Health Care and Rehab Center after a lengthy illness. She was born Aug. 26, 1912, daughter of the late George and Hattie (Wells) Cota. She attended school in St. Albans. She married Raymond Thibault, and Mr. Thibault died Nov. 11, 1973. Doris worked as a sales clerk at J.C.Penny for many years. She was a member of the Women of the Moose, Chapter 321, the Ladies of St. Anne, the Holy Angels Bingo Committee, and Mother's Club. She was a communicant of Holy Angels Church and St. Mary's Church in Franklin. She enjoyed crocheting, Bingo, and playing cards, but her whole life she was devoted to her family. She is survived by her children, Jeannette Rice of East Highgate, Lorne Thibault and his wife, Judy, of Monkton, and Carol Thomson and her husband, Robert, of Pittsford, N.Y.; 16 grandchildren; 35 greatgrandchildren; 7 great-greatgrandchildren; a daughterin-law, Gerda Thibault of Swanton; a brother, Leo Cota and his wife, Anna, of Swanton; and sisters-in-law, Bernice Cota of Burlington and Mary Cota of Bridgeport, Conn. She was predeceased by her parents and husband, along with her son, Robert Thibault; a daughter, Pauline Douglas; an infant daughter, Mary Thibault; a sons-in-law, Phillip Douglas and Reginald Rice; her brothers, Alfred, Arthur, Andrew, Harold, Donald, George, and Herman Cota; and sisters-in-law, Olivia and Madeline Cota. ....show BURLINGTON - James R. Thomas (Jim) died peacefully on May 4, 2010, at Birchwood Terrace Health Care with his daughter by his side, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Jim was born on July 21, 1925, to Marjorie (Post) and Bradley A. Thomas in Johnson. The youngest of three children, he is predeceased by his parents; sister, Helen; and brother, Brad Jr. Jim spent his formative years in Enosburg, which provided many good friends, a lifelong love for milk and cottage cheese (which he sold door-todoor) and maple syrup (which he produced from his own improvised sugar shack as a teenager). A veteran of the Army Air Corps in WWII, Jim graduated with a bachelor's degree from Babson College in 1949, and began working in the accounting office of Rutland Hospital. There he met Dorothy Kelly, a surgical nurse who asked him to a dance when her previous date cancelled. "Yo-yo eyes" as she called him, quickly agreed and they married in 1950. Jim went on to earn a master's degree in Hospital Administration from Washington University in 1953. Jim took his first job as a hospital administrator at Wickenburg, Ariz., Community Hospital. He fell in love with the west and made it his home as a bona fide "desert rat" for 50 years. His career included being an administrator of several hospitals: Tucson Medical Center, where his only child Kelly Jane was born in 1957; Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas, Nev.; Arizona Crippled Children's and Maryvale Samaritan Hospitals in Phoenix, Ariz.; and Miami-Inspiration Hospital in Miami, Ariz. He was president of the Arizona Hospital Association in 1972. After Dot's death in 1976, Jim worked for the state of Arizona, where mutual friends introduced him to Fran LaJoie, whom he married in 1978. They enjoyed 14 years of marriage until Fran's passing in 1993. He delighted in time spent with his seven step-children, and being a grandfather to numerous grand and greatgrandchildren. Jim retired to Leisure World in Mesa, Ariz., where he played billiards and golf, and sang in a mixed chorus. After a stroke in 2006, Jim moved back to Vt., where he lived with his daughter and her husband, Perry Rianhard, in Shelburne, then in the warm community of Converse Home in Burlington. He is survived by his daughter, Kelly,; his nieces, Karen Blais of Westfield, and Mary Graham of Woolwich, ME; and nephew, Gary Thomas of Newport, and their families; and his seven stepchildren, Bill LaJoie, Linda Storey, Jim LaJoie, Jerry LaJoie, Cindy Robertson, Julia LaJoie and Mark LaJoie, and their families. He is also survived by Jean Wolfe and Muriel Blanchard, whose tender friendships he treasured. Jim was a joyful soul, outgoing and good humored, and an unabashed flirt. He relished home cooked meals, a good joke, close ball games, long walks in the sunshine, scratching a dog's belly or a cat's ears, singing along with Frank Sinatra, and taking in the first green of a Vermont spring. He was a kind man and a wonderful father. Jim's life will be celebrated on June 20, Father's Day, in the Morgan Room of Aiken Hall at Champlain College. A brief notice with timing of the service will follow in June. A private interment will be held at the Hinesburg Village Cemetery. A special thank you to Vicky, Kim, Barb, Colleen, Maureen, Steve, Tammy, Rachel and all the other dedicated professionals who cared for Jim at Birchwood Terrace. ....show SOUTH BURLINGTON - Patricia Marie Thomas, 68, of South Burlington, Vt. died peacefully Tuesday evening surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Oct. 2, 1941, the daughter of Edna (Daudelin) Dubois and the late Arthur Dubois and graduated from Jericho High School. Pat was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a true friend. She was an inspiration to many. Pat loved cats and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox. She always looked forward to spring training. She enjoyed baking and sharing the wonderfully tasty fruits of her labor with friends. Her whole heart, soul and mind were dedicated to her god Jehovah, and no trial or physical handicap would prevent her from acting on that love. Underneath her small stature and kind and quiet manner was an enduring loyalty and faith most worthy of imitating. She is survived by her mother; her son, Alan and wife Pat of Hinesburg, her daughter Jean and husband Michael St. Laurent of Strafford, N.H. Pat also leaves behind her five much loved grandchildren, Derryck and his wife Aja with little Miss Kate (great-granddaughter), Joshua, Amanda and her husband Jake Finnegan, Matthew and Marissa St. Laurent. She is also survived by her brother Arthur Dubois of Cambridge. She was predeceased by her brothers Gerald and Roland Dubois. She also leaves behind many close friends, whose daily contact brightened her day. ....show BARRE TOWN - Perley Drew "Tom" Thomas, 74, of Sunset Road, died on Tuesday, April 20, 2010, in Fletcher Allen Health Care of Burlington with his loving family by his side. Born on April 14, 1936 in Cabot, he was the son of Neal and Alice (Wheeler) Thomas. On Sept. 19, 1959, he married Helene Brodeur. They made their home in Barre Town for forty-six years. For thirty-three years, he worked for Cody Chevrolet in the body shop until his retirement. His memberships included the Senior Citizens Club and the Elk's Lodge 1535 both of Barre. A devoted family man, Tom will be remembered for his sense of humor and willingness to help others. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, traveling, and was an avid cribbage player. Survivors include his wife, Helene Brodeur Thomas of Barre Town; two daughters, Ruth Thomas Squire and her husband, John of Starksboro and Lynn Thomas of Md.; his granddaughter and light of his life, Lilith; a brother, Alton Thomas; two sisters, Nettie Searles and Audra Burroughs and her husband, Clifton; a cousin, Oliver Perry, who was raised by Tom's family and was like a brother; cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his infant daughter, Rosemary; his parents; a brother, Hugh Thomas; and a sister, Marion Barnett. Family and friends are invited to an open house in his memory at the home of Helene Thomas, 22 Sunset Road, Barre Town on Thursday, April 22 and Friday, April 23 from 2 to 8 p.m. A celebration of his life will take place at a later date in the summer. ....show SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt./SHERBURNE, N.Y - Carol Ruth Thompson, 92, of The Pines in South Burlington, and a former longtime resident of Sherburne, N.Y., died Wednesday, May 5, 2010, with her daughter and grandchildren at her side in the Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. She was born in German, N.Y., on June 28, 1917, the 5th of six children of Lewis and Delilah (Dyer) Carrier. On Aug. 3, 1940, Carol married John J. Thompson in Norwich, N.Y. Mr. Thompson predeceased her on Dec. 29, 2001. She lived her life in Chenango County, N.Y., until she moved to Vermont in 2006 to be closer to her daughter. Carol was proficient at crafts, a longtime member of the Chenango County Home Bureau, and of the North Norwich Garden Club. She especially enjoyed her many years at Bradley Brook Reservoir and the numerous friends she and John had at the lake. She was a member of the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Tent 71. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Shelden and her companion, Robert Russo, of Essex Jct.; her grandchildren, Brian Shelden of Austin, TX, Andrew Shelden and his wife, Marcy, and their son, Ethan of Jericho, Phoebe Harbour and her husband, Thad, and their sons Cody and TJ of Austin, TX, and Bridget Shelden and her son Christian of Gonzales, LA. She was predeceased by her siblings, Violet Biviano, Ulah Osterberg, Ruby Ring, William Carrier and Pat Carrier. She was born on Aug. 21, 1920 in St. Albans ,the daughter of Ernest and Delia (Gibault) Fisher. She was a member of Holy Family Church in Essex Jct. Evelyn enjoyed dancing and Bingo, and was very active in the Essex Jct. Senior Center, and was past president. She is survived by her nieces, Suzanne Fisher of Hinesburg, Debbie Bousquet of Essex Jct., and Patricia Marquette of St. Albans; and newphews, Richard and Greg Fisher of Virginia. She was predeceased by her husband, Sylvester Thompson, in 1995; and her brothers, Wilson and Edward Fisher. ....show MIDDLEBURY - Irene Thompson, 88, died July 30, 2010, in The Lodge of Otter Creek in Middlebury. Born in 1922 in New York City and raised in Roselle, N.J. Irene Malcolm was an avid equestrian in her youth with her sister, Joan. She graduated St. Luke's School of Nursing, N.Y., which is where she met her husband, John Thompson. Together, they spent their first year of married life in Hawaii as John was stationed at Tripler Army Hospital. Upon his discharge they settled in Morristown, N.J. There, Irene was active with volunteer services and the Women's Auxiliary for Morristown Memorial Hospital and Planned Parenthood. She later reactivated her nursing career becoming a Public Health Nurse with the Summit Board of Health in N.J. She enjoyed tennis, skiing and spent her weekends showing dogs for both obedience and breed. In 1981, John and Irene retired to their vacation home in Cornwall. Irene was an active member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. She also volunteered at Round Robin, Addison County Home Health, Porter Hospital and Addison County Elderly Services. Irene continued her dog training in Vermont but this time became interested in agility exercises with Golden Retrievers and helped many friends with obedience training. Irene loved her Vermont home with its incredible views of both the Green and Adirondack Mountains. She was enthusiastic about her gardens and her Goldens. Irene was preceded in death by her husband, John, who passed away April 12 of this same year. She is survived by her son, Malcolm Thompson, his wife Kristine, their two children, John-David and Megan; and her daughter, Kate Everly and her husband Mark. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, Aug. 6, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Middlebury. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Addison County Human Society.

....show SOUTH BURLINGTON - Florence T. Thon died in Starr Farm Nursing Center on Oct. 12, 2010. Born May 4, 1935, Florence was the wife of Fredrick J. Thon; mother of three loving children, Renee Patnaude and husband, Brian, Mark Thon, and Christopher Thon and wife, Tracie; seven grandchildren who were the love of her life, Brett Patnaude, and Ryan Patnaude and his fiancée, Elyse, Dominic Perkins, Briejhonna and Haley Thon, Jacob and Shea Thon. She was a member of St. John Vianney Church. At her request there will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 15 in St. John Vianney Church, S. ....show Jean Paula (Whitcomb) Thornton died on Oct. 29, 2010 following a lengthy battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Mrs. Thornton was born on March 1, 1930 to Wesley W. and Olive E. (Douglas) Whitcomb at the Mary Fletcher Hospital in Burlington. She graduated from Chester High School ('48), Colby College in Waterville, ME ('52) and Chandler Business School in Boston ('53). Mrs. Thornton was an accomplished musician throughout her high school and college years, and was a member of the Colby College Marching Band. She served as a plane spotter during WWII, watching from the roof of Chester High School. Mrs. Thornton believed her greatest accomplishment was raising her five daughters and four sons. She reveled in her 23 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was an avid supporter of The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, The Order of DeMolay, Junior Achievement, Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of the USA, Explorer Scouts and The Burlington International Games. For more than a decade, she was a fixture at Chittenden East School District events. Mrs. Thornton enjoyed sharing stories of her children's exploits whenever possible. She was seldom seen without a knitting project and would give anyone a ride anywhere in her little yellow car. Mrs. Thornton was predeceased in 2008 by her husband of 55 years, Edwin L. Thornton Jr. The family would like to thank the staff of Genesis Lebanon Center and Gifford Hospital for their many kindnesses. No services will be held. ....show ESSEX, VT - Larry John Thornton, 46, of Essex died suddenly on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010. He was born in Weymouth, Mass. on Jan. 21, 1963, the son of Lawrence D. and Maria G. (Teves) Thornton. Larry grew up in Hingham, Mass. and graduated from Hingham High School in 1981. He was also a graduate of Fitchburg State College. On Sept. 8, 1990, he was married to GayLynn Richards. Larry had worked for many years as a Child and Family Clinician for The Baird Children's Center (now Howard Center) in Burlington. Larry was a loving and devoted husband and father. Larry also loved his work with children and families. He worked hard to make a difference in their lives. Larry's outdoor pursuits were mountain biking, snow boarding and fishing. Above all else he enjoyed being with his children, Ryder and Juna. Larry was a champion poker player who will always be at our final table. He is survived by his wife GayLynn Thornton of Essex; his two children, Ryder James Thornton and Juna Ruby Thornton also of Essex; his mother, Maria G. Thornton of Hull, Mass.; his sister Marni Blauer of Hingham, Mass. and two nephews, Zack and Harrison Blauer also of Hingham. Larry was recently predeceased by his father Lawrence D. Thornton on Nov. 11, 2009. A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2010, at 11 a.m. in the Ready Funeral Home Mountain View Chapel. ....show BURLINGTON - On Feb. 24, 2010, Carlo Tognelli, 88 formerly of Gavinana Pistiese, Italy, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Carlo was a special person who touched many lives and will be greatly missed for his sense of humor and zest for life. His journey started on June 17, 1921, and was born to Maria Ferrari and Leopoldo Tognelli in Gavinana in the mountains above Florence, Italy in the region of Tuscany. He attended elementary school in Gavinana and San Marcello. At age 14, he attended technical school at the SMI Institute in Campo Tizzoro where he learned the trade of precision tool and die maker and Calibrista for armaments. These degrees would open the doors for him to travel to many countries to work in his lifetime. He served in World War II as a pilot and navigator for the Italian Air Force and after the war he went to Switzerland for work where he met the love of his life, his "Patatina" Carmen Pedetti from Como, Italy who was also in Switzerland working. They would travel the world together. They married on June 26, 1950 and were married by Archbishop Giuseppe Montini who later became Pope Paul VI and stated to the couple after the ceremony, "today I feel I have married Romeo and Juliet". From Switzerland they went back to Italy, then Brazil, then Canada and to the United States through Chicago to New Jersey and then they settled in Vermont and were finally home. He was employed at IBM until his retirement in 1981, obtaining during his career three patents in Washington for IBM. Carlo loved his soccer, skiing, tennis, cycling, and hunting and fishing. He enjoyed all sports and was an avid sportsman. He especially loved spending time at the family camp in Lowell, Vt. He was predeceased by his mother and father, two brothers, Ermano, Albano and sister Flora (Meghi) and many of his childhood friends, Livio, Fabiano, Evandro, Ciro, Galileo, Carlo Secco, Ivo and Fattore. He is survived by his wife Carmen Pedetti; daughter Barbara and her husband Ron Klein, son Sergio and his wife Anne Cross; and the twinkle in his eyes, his beloved grandchildren, Anthony Carlo and Jessica Elizabeth Tognelli, his "adopted" daughter Ruth Ellen O'Connell and "adopted" son Tom Hubbard. In addition there are many nieces, nephews and dear friends both here and abroad that will mourn his loss. Today the bells will toll for Carlo in Gavinana, Italy and he will be reunited with those that went before him and knowing Carlo he will prepare a place for his family to join him when they pass into eternal life. The family would like to express a very special thanks to the entire staff on Birchwood Terrace Healthcare and Rehabilitation Unit for all their support, love and excellent care given to Carlo and his family. Also to Dr. Eugene Moore, Dr. Jeffrey Rubman and Dr. Chris Hebert for their excellent care and attention. He is survived by his wife, Josephine Tornello; his six children, Richard and his wife June, Stephen and his wife Renee', Laura, Joseph and his wife Elaine, Roy, and Alex and his wife Carrie; 11 grandchildren; three greatgrandchildren; one sister, Marie DiFranza; and several nieces, and nephews. He was born in St. Albans on Feb. 6, 1952, son of Janet A. (Joslin) Perry of Sudbury, Mass. and the late Francis A. Touchette. A veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, he had been employed as a carpenter. He had lived in Vermont for much of the last 26 years, moving back to Maynard, Mass. recently. In addition to his mother, he leaves a daughter, Tabetha Hatch and her husband, Jim, of Maynard, Mass.; two sons, Francis Gary Touchette and James A. Lombardo, both of Maynard, Mass.; a brother, Marc Parry of Sudbury, Mass.; three sisters, Dawn Touchette and Lee Reed, both of Vermont, and Bonnie Gerlack of New Hampshire; and three grandchildren, Colton DavilaTouchette, Meadow Hatch and Christopher Hatch, all of Maynard, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews. She was born in Bellows Falls on January 19, 1922, the daughter of Archibald and Florence (Naramore) Willard. Elsie was a graduate of Bellows Falls High School. She was the widow of Leroy Tourville, Sr. who predeceased her in 1976. Elsie is survived by five children, Mary Ann Chamberlain and her husband, John of Enosburg Falls, Leroy Jr. and his wife, Linda of Jericho, Janet Carr and her husband Pearson of Canaan, Brian and Julie of Jericho, and Carla Jacobs and her husband Leslie Linsmier of Hoboken, N.J.; 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bernice Currier of Essex Jct. and Shirley Wilson of the Green Mountain Nursing Home and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by a son Ronald and by ten siblings. Her family would like to sincerely thank the entire staff at Green Mountain Nursing Home for all of their care, support and love that they gave to Elsie these last five years of her life. ....show GRAPEVINE, TX - John Francis Tourville, born May 8, 1950 to Robert E. and Jean Cameron Tourville (now Nadeau), died on Nov. 14, 2010 at the age of 60 in Baylor Regional Medical Center of Grapevine, TX. At the time of his death, Dr. Tourville served as the Director of Pharmacy at Baylor Regional Medical Center at Grapevine; and was previously the Director of Pharmaceutical Safety and Chief Pharmacist for Tenet Healthcare, Director of the Pharmacy Dept. Children's Medical Center of Dallas, Clinical Specialist at Parkland Hospital, Head of the Pharmacy Dept Naval Hospital at Camp Lejeune, N.C., as well as San Diego, Calif., Guam, and Bethesda, Md., and was the Senior Staff Fellow and Assistant to the Head for Clinical Services at the Clinical Center, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Md. During his tenure in the US Navy he achieved the rank of Lt. Commander, and served during the Desert Storm period (assigned to the hospital\transport ship USS Tarawa). John was a graduate of Rice Memorial High School (1968), received his BS in Pharmacy from the University of Connecticut (1973), and Doctorate of Pharmacology from the University at Buffalo (1975). During his career, Dr. Tourville served as an Adjunct Professor of Pharmacy at numerous academic institutions and was an Assistant Professor at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences, University of Maryland, West Virginia University, and SUNY Buffalo. Amongst numerous career accomplishments and professional accolades, John was the first "non- physician" health care provider to receive a Fellowship in the American College of Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Tourville was the author of numerous scientific articles, and served for many years as a contributing editor and section coordinator for the peer-reviewed scientific journal Hospital Pharmacy. John enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was an outdoor enthusiast, loved to grill and entertain, and was an avid runner and sports fan. Those who knew him best described him as a kind- hearted and generous person that would do anything possible to help a friend or loved-one. He was philanthropic by nature, and volunteered with a multitude of organizations and charitable foundations throughout the years. John was predeceased by his father, Robert; his grandparents, Eugene and Mabel Tourville; his maternal grandmother and Godmother, Bernice Cameron; and several aunts and uncles. Survivors include his wife, Yvette Tourville, of Grapevine, TX; daughter, Katerina and husband, Dan McCarthy, of Newport, N.H.; son, Tim and wife, Kelly, of Georgia, VT; stepchildren, Charles Bryant, Jordan Hillerman, and Alessandra Hillerman of Grapevine, TX; mother, Jean Nadeau and husband, Albert; brothers, Mark and wife, Nancy and Matt and wife, Pat; sisters, Kathy and husband, Tom Barron and Rose and husband, Randy Laba; brother, Joe and wife, Shelley; sister, Cindy Haverstick; and brother, Tom and wife, Carolyn; three grandchildren, Kayla Martin and Reese and Cooper Tourville; the extended family of Albert Nadeau; five aunts in Vermont and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. DON W. "BILL" TOWERS
....show SHELBURNE - Don William "Bill" Towers, 65, of Shelburne, died peacefully Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010 in the Vermont Respite House, surrounded by his family and friends. Bill was born in Burlington on June 16, 1945, the son of Don and Bettie (Randall) Towers. He graduated from Burlington High School, class of 1963. He served his country with the VT National Guard. In 1981, he married Sheila Scanlan in Burlington. Bill had been employed in the parts department at Shearer Chevrolet for 27 years. He also owned and operated an auto parts store in Colchester. He worked finally at Fletcher Allen Health Care. Bill was an auto racing enthusiast. For over 30 years, he worked with the racing teams of Bobby Dragon and Dennis Demers. Bill's primary love was his family. Bill is survived by his wife, Sheila Scanlan-Towers of Shelburne; his daughter, Faith Elizabeth Towers of Malden, Mass.; his mother, Bettie Towers of Burlington; his siblings, Lee Towers and his wife, Judith Towers, of Williston, Anne Martin and her husband, Tom, of South Burlington; his brother-inlaw, Kevin Scanlan and his wife, Mary McCatty, of New York City, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Don Towers in 2008. His family would like to give special thanks to all the staff at the VT Respite House for all their compassion and support during Bill's final days. A service of Celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010 at noon in the Crossroads Chapel in Ferrisburgh. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Richmond.
