Paul K. Manghi
....show of East Montpelier, VT passed away on February 3rd at Fletcher Allen Healthcare. He was 63 years old.
Paul was born on June 8, 1946, in New Brunswick, NJ, to Gene and Alice (Miller) Manghi. Paul's father's army career led the family to Germany and Georgia before settling in Northfield where his father was stationed at Norwich University. After each move, the family would travel back to their roots in the NYC area to reunite with loved ones. Paul's Italian and German heritage led him to develop a deep love of family and family traditions revolving around food and winemaking.
Paul graduated from Northfield High School and then The Maryknoll Seminary in Glenn Ellen, IL with a B.A. in philosophy and religion, after which Paul enlisted in the army. It was during the years of his education that Paul had an inspirational group of friends of which Elaine Thomas was a part.
Paul and Elaine were married June 28, 1969, in Northfield. Paul served a year in Vietnam as an advisor for regional and popular forces. Upon his return, he obtained his master's degree in special education at Syracuse University. He worked in special education in St. Albans and then for Washington County Mental Health in Randolph. Paul and Elaine's family was completed with the arrival of Maria in 1974 and Matthew in 1976.
Their first home in rural North Randolph was the perfect backdrop for Paul to begin to raise and grow much of the family's food. In 1980 they moved to Montpelier, where Paul joined Elaine in expanding a small but very successful home bread-baking business. The community embraced the whole grain breads and their Christ Church family offered kitchen space to meet the need. In less than a year, the bakery had outgrown both the church and a second location off Main Street, and 29 years ago they settled into the bakery's current "home" at 28 School Street. Here Paul found his true vocation providing good food, friendship, and a quiet and kind presence to all he came into contact with.
After 16 years in Montpelier they found their third "dream home", an 1840's farmhouse at the end of a dirt road in East Montpelier. The tranquil setting, simple beauty of the land and warm neighbors were a joy to Paul.
Paul put his heart and soul into everything he did. His magnificent garden gave a wealth of produce, which he generously shared with all. He was the consummate craftsman, learning old techniques to meet present needs. His post and beam shed was built patiently over three years, using only hand-tools. His winemaking was both a family tradition and a form of creative expression. His interests ranged from fishing, following the Montreal Canadiens hockey team, and constantly reading and learning. But his favorite recent topic was his grandchildren. He was known to say, "Let me tell you about my grandchildren. Do you have an hour?"
Paul Manghi leaves a legacy of faith, wisdom, community spirit, hospitality and generosity to all those who were touched by him.
Paul is survived by his wife and friend of 41 years, Elaine (Thomas) Manghi; son Matthew Manghi of Burlington; daughter Maria (Manghi) Stoufer and her husband, Steve Stoufer of East Montpelier; grandchildren Hazen and Stella Stoufer of East Montpelier; mother, Alice (Miller) Manghi of Northfield; brother Gene Manghi and his wife Bernie of NJ; sister Maria (Manghi) Aronson and her husband Doug of OR; and a large extended family, and many beloved high school and college friends. Paul was predeceased by his father, Gene Manghi and brothers Mark Manghi and Michael Manghi.
A funeral service and celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, February 13th, at 1 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church in Montpelier.
Memorial contributions may be made to East Montpelier Elementary School, 665 Vincent Flats Road, East Montpelier, VT 05651 or the Vermont Heart Association, 434 Hurricane Lane, Williston, VT 05495.

Long-time Montpelier resident
Taylor Stevens McLaughlin
....show died on the afternoon of January 10, 2010 at age 20, in a car accident on the beltline (Rt. 127) in Colchester.
Born in Berlin, VT, he grew up in Montpelier, together with his parents, Carley and Bob, and his two beloved sisters, Cassandra and Calista. He was a gifted singer and athlete, and was active throughout middle and high school in football, lacrosse, and chorus.
He became a freshman at St. Anselm College in Fall 2009, hoping to major in international business. His dream was, together with his sisters, to one day open a cafe and gathering place with live music, in a tropical location, that would be a welcoming place for young adults.
He took a year off between high school and college, and lived and worked in Burlington. During this time, he became active in the refugee community, especially with the "Lost Boys" of Sudan.
Taylor will be remembered by his many friends and all whose lives he touched, by the depth and breadth of his smile, and his quiet and understated but no less intense compassion for those who had endured suffering. He also will be remembered as a youth and young adult who knew how to be a friend, how to bring true warmth and laughter into others' lives. He liked to say that "unless you are living on the edge, you're taking up too much space," in the sense that life is to be lived with love, respect and laughter, but never sarcasm.
He is survived by his parents, Carley Stevens-McLaughlin and Robert McLaughlin, his great-aunt Ruth Barron, sisters Calista Williamson and Cassandra Corley, brother-in-law Daniel Williamson, aunts Rowena Drown and Marina Stevens, uncles Daniel McLaughlin, Larry Stevens and Graydon Stevens, many cousins, and the many friends whom he loved so much.
The viewing will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Guare and Sons Funeral Home, 30 School Street, in Montpelier. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 15,2010, at Bethany Church, 115 Main Street, in Montpelier.
The family requests that donations be made in lieu of flowers, in honor of Taylor McLaughlin, to the Vermont Refugees Resettlement Program, 462 Hegeman Avenue, Suite 101, Colchester VT 05446. VRRP provides comprehensive support for refugees such as the Lost Boys.
As Taylor loved to say all the time, "peace". That's all he ever wanted.
MIDDLESEX; On a dismal day, December 24th, 2010,
Patricia (Huse) McVeigh
....show died (at Central Vermont Medical Center). With deep grief, sadness, and loss, we now pass this news along to her extended family, friends, colleagues, and community. What can we say when an old soul like Tricia McVeigh passes on. We call her an old soul decidedly, not in a religious sense but in the sense of the ancients; hers was an old soul steeped with wise counsel and goodwill and good humor. She spread goodwill wherever she went, giving much and requesting little in return, but expecting good effort and sincerity.
Tricia was born on May 27, 1960, in Cleveland, Ohio, the fifth of six children. Her parents, both Nebraskans, steadily migrated East halting their eastward migration in Massachusetts. Tricia spent much of her early childhood (often accused of being born old - Tricia called it maturity - Tricia really did have a childhood) in West Newton. At an early age, she developed a keen and abiding interest in children which she pursued throughout her educational and working life. In Brighton, Massachusetts, she volunteered at the Parents Center devoting many hours to children in need while simultaneously meeting a man in need, Chris McVeigh. She developed and maintained lifelong relationships with individuals she first met as children at the Parents' Center.
After high school, Tricia enrolled at Bowdoin College in Maine, persisting in her admission efforts by patiently, but firmly, explaining to Bowdoin why it mistakenly denial her application for early admission. She excelled at Bowdoin graduating in 1982 with a degree in psychology. After working at a home for teenage girls for a year, Tricia moved to Nebraska to start and complete her doctorate in psychology. Through some sort of magic she persuaded Chris, her newly minted husband, a man who made her laugh, that he wanted to be in Nebraska too.
Eventually, Tricia moved to Middlesex, Vermont where she lived the balance of her years. And live she did. Tricia tapped a deep reservoir of energy balancing family, work, and community. Sometimes to their chagrin, not often, Tricia focused her laser attention on her children. Tricia dedicated herself to Brendan, Kieran, and Quinn, insightfully gauging the needs of each child, then working her best to provide it. She provided the tools for each to grow and develop into unique, responsible individuals. She always provided the opportunity to explore new experiences and even fail at them, then provided the listening time that parenting requires.
In 1990, Tricia started a long, mutually beneficial relationship with the Barre City School District Serving in several capacities, but most importantly as a dedicated friend and colleague. Tricia valued her relationship with Barre where she practiced her expertise testing children, advising on interventional plans, and impacting the lives of many students, families, and staff members. She appreciated her environment and the depth it provided her life. Occasionally, political considerations challenged her position in Barre, but her working colleagues and administrators understood the benefit of her bargain, along with the depth and scope of her expertise, so that her position was preserved. She continued to provide dedicated service, and LaBrioche goodies, to her friends and colleagues until the last month of her life. The mutual admiration and respect between Tricia and her colleagues at the Barre Elementary and Middle School defies measure. Both treasured the other.
Aside from her family and friends, Tricia's true passion blossomed in her flower garden. She transformed swaths of her Middlesex yard into a carefully staged blooming paradise of plants and flowers. She spent many hours recreating mere grassy patches into favored locations for the local honeybees and hummingbirds. She planted new varieties, traded clippings, donated plants and clippings to the annual Rumney plant sale. Tricia's work in the many summers in her garden will have long and lasting impact.
In July 2005, Tricia was diagnosed with primary peritoneal cancer, treated as an ovarian cancer. While she gracefully endured several surgical procedures and rounds of chemotherapy, her treatments lost their effectiveness. At that point Tricia consciously and confidently chose to discontinue any further invasive treatments to savor her remaining time with as much quality of life to share with her family and friends. She approached her inevitable death with the resolute directness and humor which hallmarked her life, comforting us all with her graceful aplomb.
Having laid down her earthly constraints, Tricia leaves many family and friends including her children Brendan, Kieran, and Quinn, her husband Chris, her mother Mary Huse, sisters Kathyrn Huse and Susan Huse; her brothers Thomas Huse, William Huse, and Joseph Huse, and their respective spouses, and many nieces and nephews; she also leaves her mother-in-law, Yvonne McVeigh, and her many, many sisters and brothers -in-law, and their spouses and children, too numerous to name.
Her friends and colleagues at the Barre City Elementary and Middle School hold a special place in her heart as she shared many years of her life with them doing good work. Tricia also touched her friends and neighbors in Middlesex who poured out their support and love for her and her family over these many years. She hopes these friends and neighbors will still harvest clippings from her garden as they desire. For the many who transported Tricia to her appointments, or wished to, out heartfelt thanks.
We will have calling hours at the Barber & Lanier Funeral Home, 139 Main Street Montpelier, Vermont, on Tuesday, December 28, 2010, from 5:30 -8:00. Burial will be a private, family affair but we will schedule a memorial for Tricia in the near future. Please, in lieu of flowers, contribute to the Tricia McVeigh Memorial Fund to be established at the Barre City Elementary and Middle School, 50 Parkside Terrace, Barre, Vermont, 05641 care of James Taffel or Michelle Cote, co-principals.

Because of the weak economy and cuts in Social Security Mom would rather you spent the money intended for her remembrance on something that you need - a treat from her. She always thought of others and did for them what she could. Here's a thought:

WOODBURY -
"Pat" Albert Gallatin Pritchett, III
....show , 62, died Thursday at the Central Vermont Medical Center, following a sudden illness.
Pat charmed his family and friends with his marvelous sense of humor that included an irreverent wit. This sometimes drew a gentle admonishment of "Oh, Pat!" from his beloved wife, Elizabeth, known as "Liz." Their children - Zach, Elizabeth and Katy - were planning a July celebration of Pat and Liz's upcoming 40th anniversary.
Pat inspired and delighted students, casts and audiences throughout Central Vermont with the many plays and musicals he directed and choreographed, beginning as an art teacher and later as chairman of the Art Department of U-32 High School. In addition, he staged musicals at the Old Meeting House in East Montpelier Center, as well as local productions in Barre, Cabot, Montpelier and Plainfield. An accomplished dancer, he taught jazz and tap dancing in his free time for many years at the Contemporary Dance and Fitness Studio in Montpelier, completing the most recent class only two weeks ago.
His birth in Richmond, Virginia, on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 1948, inspired his lifelong nickname of Pat. He was the son of the late Albert Gallatin Pritchett, Jr., and Ann Blanton Pritchett.
Pat attended public schools in Richmond and was graduated from the University of Virginia. There he met Liz Fryberger, and they were married in her hometown of Duluth, Minnesota, on July 11, 1970. Following his service in the U.S. Coast Guard, Pat and Liz moved to Woodbury, Vermont. He had a 14-year teaching career, during which he received the Outstanding Vermont Teacher Award from the University of Vermont in 1984. His skill and technique as an artist led him to enter a new field with a design-build construction company, based in Woodbury. The company is now known as Vermont Vernacular Designs, with Pat serving as owner and president.
He is survived by his wife Liz; their children and spouses, Zach Pritchett and Zoe Engelberg, Elizabeth Pritchett and Matthew Melnyk, and Catherine "Katy" Pritchett; a sister and her husband, Wycliffe "Wyckie" and Dan Seamans; a brother-in-law and his wife, David and Betsy Fryberger; and a sister-in-law Mary Marcina. A brother-in-law, William Fryberger, predeceased him. He leaves two nieces, Elizabeth Lee Seamans and Ann Seamans Manning and her husband Dave Manning; a nephew Mark Fryberger, his wife, Amanda, and their children, John Patrick and Laura.
He was always willing to help with community projects, including being a prime mover in the campaign to restore the Woodbury Methodist Church. He was a longtime member of the Old Meeting House.
Pat was an avid gardener and landscaper, and loved outdoor activities, especially sailing and cross-country skiing. He is remembered by friends and family for his love of the beauty of nature, particularly the ocean, classical music and opera, the theater and dance.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 31, at The Old Meeting House in East Montpelier Center. A reception will follow in the Parish House. Arrangements are being handled by Guare & Sons Funeral Home in Montpelier.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made to the Central Vermont Humane Society, P.O. Box 687, Montpelier, VT 05602 or the Vermont Land Trust, 8 Bailey Ave, Montpelier, VT 05602.
