RONALD LAWRENCE CLARK, II
....show BURLINGTON - Ronald Lawrence Clark, II, 41 years old, died unexpectedly on Aug. 15, 2010 in Burlington. Ron was a kind-hearted and gentle person who faced considerable challenges resulting from a traumatic brain injury sustained when he was 12 years old. His spirit was stronger than his disability, though. Ron earned a GED, and later, a high school diploma from Burlington High School. He was passionate about cooking, biking, music, and, most of all, his five-year-old daughter, Colleen. Ron's journey was a difficult one, but he had indomitable spirit that shined through all aspects of his life. Ron regularly attended services in the First Congregational Church, and will be missed by the parishioners who knew him. It was impossible not to be touched by Ron. Everyone who knew him loved him, from the state workers who helped him, to the kids at Colleen's daycare who played with him every week. He had a hearty laugh, and a knack for teasing that only he could get away with. The family remembers one of the happiest moments of his life, when they celebrated his forty-first birthday at Burlington's North Beach. It was a beautiful day, full of laughter, all former wounds finally starting to heal. Ron was happiest when he was with Colleen. She loved young people and enjoyed entertaining her husband's many law clerks. She had an abundance of energy and was an avid tennis player, swimmer, walker, skier and bridge player. Ann was very proud of her family and loved them all dearly and they will all miss her. Ann leaves her son, Peter, his wife, Sue, and their children, Nikolas, Daniel, Alex and Will; her son, Albert/Buddy, his wife, Deb, and their children, CJ, Scott and Jane; her son, James, his wife, Jill, and their children, Seth, Kevin and Laura; her daughter, Nancy Furlong, her husband Michael, and their children, Graham and Emily. She also leaves her brother, James MacCornack of New Jersey and his wife, Elizabeth, and their children, Jonathan and Katharine; and a cousin, Ann Vinson of Texas, and her family, and her god-grandson, Tanner Howe. Dr. Joseph Foley was a very special friend in her later years. The Coffrin Family would like to thank Dr. Frank Landry, the caregivers in the Gardenview Memory Care unit at the Converse Home and the Starr Farm Nursing Center for taking such good care of Ann. An announcement for a memorial service will be made at a later date. JANET L. COOK-KONCZAL
....show SOUTH HERO - Janet Lynn Cook-Konczal, 50, died peacefully, with her husband and sister at her side, on Monday, Jan. 25, 2010. Janet was born Feb. 5, 1959, into the middle of a large and loving family in Taylor, Mich. It was there, under the influence of her family, that she developed her love for all things Detroit. Her favorite teams were the Michigan Wolverines, the Tigers, the Red Wings, and, yes, even the Lions. Every Sunday, from Labor Day until the end of the regular season, she would be found wearing her Lion's sweatshirt and ball-cap. She loved the cheeseburgers at Millers, Better Made potato chips, Vernors, and Faygo RedPop. Bob Seger was by far her favorite musician, but after this summers Champlain Valley Fair, to her own surprise, Kid Rock was a close second. For most of the 1980s and all of the 1990s, Janet was employed by Pool Doctor Services of Bloomfield, Mich. There, as happened everywhere she worked, she created a feeling of family. She became the "right-hand woman" of the owner, Mark Boff, and they remained close friends until the day she died. She also met and fell in love with her husband, Michael, while both were Pool Doctor employees. On May 13, 1990, Janet gave birth to the first of her two sons, Christian. On May 13, 1995, she gave birth to the second son, Ethan. There is no way to measure, or describe, the pride and love she had for her sons. They were everything to her. It was fitting that their birthdays fall on Mothers Day every few years because she deserved the extra recognition for the incredible job she did in raising her boys. In August of 2001, she and her family moved from Michigan to Monkton where she quickly took two parttime jobs at the Monkton General Store and at Bristol Health and Fitness. However, she devoted most of her time to the raising of her "men." She volunteered two afternoons a week at Monkton's Elementary school. She helped coach or assisted with soccer, basketball and baseball. She was also very involved with the Monkton Club/Boy Scouts. Janet and her family would like to thank the Brennans, the Griswolds, the Kimballs, the Meaders, the Murrays, the LeTourneaus, the Panellas, Jim and Penny, and all of her friends in Monkton. In August of 2005, Janet and her family moved to South Hero, where she was offered her dream job, assisting in the care of horses and working on a farm. Unfortunately, that was also the month she was diagnosed with cancer, stage 4. After two major surgeries in three months and being released from the hospital on Thanksgiving Day, she quickly healed and went right back to work. Janet didn't have time to be sick. There was volunteering to be done: Helping out as a parent at the Folsom School, doing the C.O.T.S. walk, and not just doing the Breast Cancer walk, but this last October, being the team leader. There were the children to be with at Camp TaKum-Ta, because, although there was general cleaning and work to be done, she didn't mind, for it allowed her to spend time with these beautiful kids. A few years ago she joined the South Hero Volunteer Fire Auxiliary and it quickly became a favorite due to its being generally kid orientated. She absolutely loved "Trunk or Treat." Halloween was her favorite holiday and her only complaint about living in the country had been the lack of trick or treaters. Problem solved. Janet's response to the disease that was ravaging her was to double her volunteering efforts. No time for a "pity party." In 2008, Janet was no longer taking care of horses, so she took a part-time job at Grand Isle's Nut-Free Chocolates. Part-time soon became full-time and whenever you can. On every other Tuesday, she would work right up until she had to leave for chemotherapy. She'd be over the worst of the nausea in a day or a day and a half and go right back to work. She'd work Saturday and/or Sunday to get her forty hours, not because she needed to, but because if she didn't, that would be like letting the cancer win, and because she felt that her employer counted on having xnumber of racks finished. She made many special friendships during her short time at Nut-Free Chocolates, and Janet's family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the rest of the Nut-Free family. We would also like to thank Bill and Connie Willey and Ted and Debbie Kessler, the previous and current owners of Janet's "farm." For the last couple of years, she had become very involved with Camp TaKum-Ta and all of the children there. Childhood cancer was a special cause for her. Very few things upset her more than to be receiving her chemo with a child in the chair next to her. Janet and her family would like to express our gratitude to Dr. Mark Greenblat and Nurse Jean Fay at Fletcher Allen Oncology, Dr. Melissa Gibson, Janet's personal physician at Milton Family Practice, and the nurses from Hospice, Betsy and Mary. You were all compassionate, kind, and professional. We would like to thank the incredibly kind and generous people of Grand Isle County, Chief Herrick and the South Hero Volunteer Fire and Auxiliary. We would like to thank the Duponts, the Farnhams, the Lawrences, the Dubuques, the Sochins, Trish Bessette, and Carl and Jamie Bissette. Finally, we would like to say thank you to D.E.W. Construction, Mike's employer, for making the last few months so much easier. We would like to apologize to anyone who was missed, which assuredly happened. For Janet, Mike, Chris, and Ethan have received many kindnesses over the five years that Janet held the cancer at bay. May God bless you all. Janet is survived by her husband, Michael; her sons, Christian and Ethan; her mother, Mary Cook; her brothers, Christian Cook and Kenneth Cook; and her sisters, Gail Gundick, Shirley Moyes, and Linda Brenzel. She is also survived by her mother and father-in-law, JoAnn and Vernon Konczal; her brothers-in-law, Dennis Gundick, Steven Konczal, and Burt Willey; her sistersin-law, Nancy Cook, Robin Cook, Julianna Daugherty, and Marilee Willey; her nieces, Joy, Heather, Ally, Courtney, Melanie, Amber, Brittany, Carley, Foster, Julia, and Ava; her nephews, Keith, Mark, Brett, Brian, Kenny, Adam, Max, and Noah; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews and other members of her extended family. Janet was predeceased by her father, Christian "Frank" Cook, and her brother, David Cook. A celebration of Janet's life will be held in South Hero, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010. The address is 501 Route 2, South Hero, 05486. Visitation begins at 9 a.m., the Saying of the Rosary begins at 10 a.m., and the funeral begins at 11 a.m., with a luncheon to be served afterwards. In lieu of flowers, Janet asked that donations in her name be made to one of her two favorite charities: the South Hero Volunteer Fire Dept. and Auxiliary, PO Box 112, South Hero, VT 05486 or Camp Ta-Kum-Ta, PO Box 576, Waterbury, VT 05676.
