, 79, of Morgan, died suddenly Dec. 17, 2009 at his home in Morgan. He was born June 24, 1930 in Holland a son of Herbert and Sfa (Calkins) Flynn. On June 26, 1954 he married Lucille Wheeler who survives him. Mr. Flynn was an estimator for Pike Industries. He was a member of the Morgan School Board for six years and also the Town Tree Warden. He enjoyed working in the woods, and loved following the Red Sox games on radio and television. He and Lucille enjoyed traveling, and playing cards with friends and family. In their younger years they loved to go dancing, enjoyed snowmobiling and he loved his family and family gatherings. He is survived by his wife Lucille of Morgan, three children Timothy Flynn and his wife Debbie of Morgan, Laura Gobeil and her husband John of Derby and Cyndi Dane and her husband Brian of West Charleston; his grandchildren Steven and Levi Flynn of Morgan, John and Rachel Adams, Bryant, Patrick and Erika Tuller of Morgan, Holly Gobiel of Calif., John Gobeil, Jr. of Burlington, Hope and Troy Dane of West Charleston; "special son" Ric and Tammy Pare; great-granddaughter Aliyah Flynn of Morgan. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, two sisters-in-law Ruby Flynn and Betty Flynn, and by a brother-in-law Bob Wheeler and his wife Theresa of Florida. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 21, 2009 at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home, 4670 Darling Hill Road, Newport with the Rev. Richard Whitehill officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, Dec. 21, 2009 from noon until the hour of the service. Spring interment will be in Clark Cemetery, Morgan. Shirley Elizabeth (Kendall) Locke

of Waits River Road died on Dec. 20, 2009 at her home. Shirley was born in Barnet, Vt., on Dec. 11, 1932, to Percy Gilman and Hazel Mildred (Montgomery) Kendall. She was a graduate of McIndoe Falls Academy, Class of 1950, and married Harvey Elmer Locke on June 9, 1951. Shirley worked as an in-home health-care provider for many years. She then worked at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in housekeeping for 15 years before retiring in 1997. Always involved in her community, Shirley was always assisting and supporting those in need. She enjoyed her handicraft work and sewing. She was predeceased by her husband, Harvey Locke, on Oct. 26, 1989. She is survived by her children, Bruce Locke of Bradford, Kendall Locke and wife Sheila of Bradford, Harold Locke of Greensboro, N.C., and Karen Locke of Bradford; four grandchildren, Glen Locke and wife Jennifer of Haverhill, N.H., Nathan Locke and wife Jessica of Bradford, Stacy Locke of Concord, N.H., and Anthony Stockman Jr. of Johns Island, S.C.; four great-grandchildren, Dorothy Gallagher, Abigail Locke, McKenna Locke and Samantha Locke; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be a graveside service Saturday, May 22, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Monroe Village Cemetery, with Pastor Mary Brownlow officiating. Assisting in the service will be Mr. Clyde Jenne. , 78, died Dec. 21, 2009, at the St. Johnsbury, Vt. Health & Rehab Center, following an extended illness, with her daughter Marcia at her side. She was born in Newport, Vt., June 10, 1931, a daughter of Clayton and Grace (Noble) Gould. She graduated from Wells River High School and Becker Junior College in Worcester, Mass. Nancy worked at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville for 27 years as the director of medical records prior to her retirement. She was a lifetime member of both the Order of the Eastern Star and of the Corinthian Chapter 42 of Wells River, the Blue Mountain Grange of Ryegate, and the South Ryegate and Ryegate Corner Presbyterian churches. She was a member of the McLure's Student Band for many years. Nancy was interested in genealogy and has researched not only her own family, but her husband's family as well. She was a gifted cake decorator, having made many wedding cakes for area weddings. She married Stewart R. Leete on June 10, 1952, and he predeceased her on April 1, 1996. Survivors include five daughters, Marcia Leete Darby and husband David of Boltonville, Vt., Sage McKay of East Corinth, Vt., Cynthia Leete of Morrisville, Vt., Deborah L. George and husband Sheldon of Woodsville, N.H., and Cathryn L. Aylward and husband Peter of Woodbury, Vt.; a very special granddaughter, Heather Leete of Claremont, N.H.; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be on Sunday, Dec. 27 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch St., Woodsville, N.H. The funeral service will be on Monday, Dec. 28, at 11 a.m. at Ricker Funeral Home with Pastor Candace Ricker officiating. Burial will be in Boltonville Cemetery, Newbury, Vt., in the spring. , 71, of Jefferson, N.H., and Yorktown, Va., passed away Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, with his family at his side. Mr. Hicks was born in Jefferson on Aug. 24, 1938, the son of Clayton and Patricia (Thayer) Hicks. Kent was a native of Jefferson, where he was raised and graduated from Lancaster Academy. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He retired as a lieutenant commander from the Navy in 1984, after 28 years of faithful service to his country. After retirement he summered in Jefferson and spent winters in Virginia. He was a man with the amazing ability to remember names and faces. That ability was because he truly enjoyed people and was a real friend, one you wanted to stay in touch with and one who was genuinely concerned for you. He had a love for the outdoors that was passed on to his grandchildren and extended family of nieces and nephews. Surviving family members include his wife of 44 years, Ann (Smith) Hicks; a daughter, Pamela Medford and her husband Mark; a son, Scott Hicks and his wife Jennifer all of Yorktown, Va.; five brothers and two sisters, Clayton Hicks of Plymouth, Wanda LaCasse of Berlin, John Hicks of Virginia Beach, Va., Forrest Hicks of Jefferson, William Hicks of Whitefield, Bruce Hicks and Jennifer Foster both of Jefferson. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Mariah and Matthew Medford and Benjamin and Jacob Hicks; and 26 nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held Monday afternoon and evening, Dec. 28, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday morning at 10 a.m., at All Saints Church in Lancaster. The Rev. Raymond Ball, pastor, will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Jefferson. The family will also receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 2, in the Amory Funeral Home, Grafton, Va. , 79, of Lyndonville, died peacefully Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, at the Pines Rehabilitation and Health Center in Lyndon. She was born Nov. 8, 1930, in St. Johnsbury, the daughter of Lynn and Helen (Merriam) Newell. On July 2, 1950, she married Roland Gochie. Marilyn worked at the VFW Post 10038 in Lyndonville as a bartender for many years. She was also a life member of their Ladies Auxiliary, as well as a member of the American Legion Post 30 Auxiliary. She liked hunting, fishing, playing Bingo, camping and attending family functions. She especially enjoyed following her grandson's auto racing events, Stevie Parker in the "09" strictly stock at WMMP in Woodstock, N.H. Survivors include her eight children, Deborah Switser and husband Stan of Lyndonville, Peggie Parker and husband Steven of Lyndonville, Roland "Joe" Gochie and wife Joanne of Goosecreek, S.C., Jerry Gochie and fiancée Stella Gagnon of Lyndonville, Dianne Gochie of Cambridge, Vt., Holly Rowe and husband Tye of St. Johnsbury, Dwayne Gochie and wife Linda of Kirby, and Theodore "Ted" Gochie; two stepsons, James and Daniel Gochie of Concord; 44 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; two sisters, Meredith Mitchell and husband Mac of Lyndonville, and Judith Despins and husband Richard of Danville; a brother in-law, Everett Chamberlin of Barnet; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Roland in 1979; her parents; two sisters, Jean Chamberlin and Jerolyn Newell; and a sister in-law, Elva Richardson. Funeral services will be held Tuesday Dec. 29 at 2 p.m. at Guibord Funeral Home. , 89, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009. She lived in Springfield for 54 years before making her home at Westview Meadows Residential Care Home in Montpelier for four years. For the past year, she has been lovingly cared for by Lorraine Richards and Belinda Matheson and the staff at the Garland House Care Home in Montpelier. She was born June 16, 1920, in Woodbury, the daughter of the late Carl A. and Linora (Colby) Thomas. She graduated from Woodbury High School in the Class of 1938. She continued her education at Johnson Normal School graduating in the class of 1941. In 1953, she received a B.S. degree in education from Johnson State College. On Aug. 23, 1947, she married Karl George Schoolcraft in Brattleboro. In her earlier years, she was an office worker for Mr. Dodd and the Anair Granite Co., as well as working for the U.S. government rationing board, all in Hardwick. Ruth was a teacher for more than 31 years, working in many of Vermont's schools, including East Montpelier, Greensboro, Hardwick Academy, Hardwick graded school, North Springfield and East School in Springfield. She retired in 1981. Following her retirement, she taught adult education at the Southeast State Correctional Facility in Windsor and was a member of the educational advisory board. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Springfield, local, state and national retired teachers association, American Legion Auxiliary Post 7 of Hardwick and the Altrurian Club in Springfield. She enjoyed sewing, crewel embroidery, knitting, cooking, family gatherings, wintering in Florida, traveling to Hawaii, playing cards, dancing, three-dimensional paper crafts, gardening, reading, enabling and encouraging others to read, and helping people. Survivors include three nieces, Betty Andrews and husband Norman of Hyde Park, Beverly Gilbert and Becky Travers, both of Orange; two great-nieces, Karen Symonds of Orange and Heather Andrews of Braintree, Mass.; two great-nephews, Matthew Andrews of Colchester and Larry Gilbert Jr. of Woodbury; four great-grand nieces and -nephews; and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, "Schoolie," in 2000, and a sister, Florence Travers in 1999. To honor her request, there will be no visiting hours. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Northern Vermont Funeral Home, 60 Elm St., Hardwick with the Rev. Alan Parker officiating. Spring burial will be held in the family lot in the Main Street Cemetery in Hardwick. Stanley "Stan" Brill

, 66, of Sutton, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, at the Pines Rehabilitation and Health Center in Lyndon. He was born April 25, 1943, in Kirby, the son of George and Julia (Park) Brill. In 1960 he graduated from Lyndon Institute. On Sept. 1, 1962, he married Shirley LaClair. Stan worked at Burke Mountain for 25 years in the maintenance department. He also did carpentry work and built houses for himself, family members, and others. He was a founding member of the Sutton Volunteer Fire Department which began in the mid 1970s. Family was the most important thing in Stanley's life. Second to that came, hunting, fishing, and maple sugaring, where he hung 400-500 buckets each year along the maple tree lined back roads of Sutton. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Shirley Brill of Sutton (P.O. Box 77, 05867); two children: Marie Carleton and husband Peter of Sutton, and their children, Tyler and Adam, and Scott Brill and wife Amy of Sutton; two brothers: Wayland Brill and wife Cynthia of Kirby, and Harland Brill and wife June of Lyndonville; his sister, Rosalie Donaghy and husband Dale of Lyndonville; his brother in-law, Gordon LaClair of Barton; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; many very close friends; and his beloved Sutton community. Graveside services will be held on Friday, May 21, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Sutton Village Cemetery with the Rev. David Colwell officiating. There will be no visiting hours. , 43, of Piermont, N.H., died tragically Tuesday, Dec. 22, in a car accident. Lisa was born in Woodsville, N.H., on July 6, 1966, to Dorothy Batchelder and Maurice Fontaine. She was a graduate of Oxbow High School class of 1984. She married Peter Mazzilli Jr., her high school sweetheart, on Sept. 22, 1984. Lisa held various business positions before going back to college at the age of 39 to fulfill her lifelong dream to become a certified massage therapist. She had many loyal clients and was employed at the Strong House Spa in Quechee, Vt. Lisa was a free spirit who made the most of every moment, and her family was the most important thing in her life. One of her great enjoyments in life was to go to her sons' school and sporting events. She also enjoyed traveling to many sunny tropical locations (especially Aruba) with various friends and family members. Lisa's passionate spirit will be greatly missed by both friends and family members alike. Lisa is pre-deceased by her birth father, Maurice Fontaine; her beloved step-father, Bill Knox; and her beloved niece, Alisha Messer. Lisa is survived by her best friend and loving husband, Peter Mazzilli; her two sons, Anthony, 18, and Joseph, 15; her mother, Dottie Knox; sister, Debbie Messer and her two children, Kaylin and Travis. died Dec. 21, 2009, at the age of 63 after a lengthy battle with brain cancer, in Bozeman, Mont., where he had lived since 2008. David leaves three daughters, Anna, Alison and Gillian, and their mother Dorothy Shea; three grandchildren, Tobias, George and Sarah; his sister Wendy Fish; many beloved nieces and nephews and his companion of the last several years, Dee Mullen. Before retiring in 2008, he was an attorney in St. Johnsbury, Vt., for nearly 40 years. He began his legal career for Kyle T. Brown, and then became Deputy State's Attorney for Caledonia County. Before entering private practice, he handled more than 400 jury trials. He especially enjoyed coaching the St. Johnsbury School eighth-grade mock trial program for almost 20 years. For many of those years, he simultaneously ran two national companies, National Ski Credit Association and American Boardsailing Credit Association, with his beloved father, James Julian. During his career, he also taught a high school American History class at Burke Mountain Academy, was elected three times as a county prosecutor, and took an active part raising three wonderful daughters. David was passionate about nonprofits, and served multiple terms as a trustee of the St. Johnsbury Athenaeum and was an active docent in their art gallery. He served on the board of trustees of Burke Mountain Academy for 15 years. He was member of the Kiwanis Club for many years, St. Johnsbury Players and the Democratic Party, and was elected as a justice of the peace for multiple terms. He was a founding member of the Do-Nothing Club. Upon moving to Bozeman, he became a docent at the Museum of the Rockies. David was born and raised in Boston, and was a lifelong member of Red Sox nation. He graduated from Middlebury College in 1968 and from the University of Maine School of Law in 1971. An avid skier since childhood, some of his nicest memories were of cresting Tower 13 at Burke Mountain. In 2006 he started to attend the Peacham Congregational Church, and became a member shortly thereafter. The Rev. Robert Potter remains a close friend. There will be memorial service on Saturday, Jan. 9 at Peacham Congregational Church at 2 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Johnsbury Athenaeum or the Bozeman Deaconess Cancer Center.
