, 96, of Lebanon, N.H., passed away on Monday, Dec. 14, 2009, at Cedar Hill Nursing Home in Windsor, Vt. She was born in Eustis, Quebec, Canada, on March 2, 1913, a daughter to the late James and Marguerite (Beattie) Vear. She grew up in Canada where she cared for her brothers and sister. Mrs. Lawrence came to St. Johnsbury, Vt., where she lived and was married to Carl Lawrence in 1936. They lived in St. Johnsbury, North Walpole, N.H., and retired to Monroe, N.H., in 1976. After Carl's death in 1997, she moved to Lebanon, N.H. Mrs. Lawrence was active in the Ladies Aid Society of East St. Johnsbury, and helped at church suppers and activities. She was a great cook and loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved fishing in the summer and ice-fishing in the winter. She was predeceased by her husband, her brothers Alton, Clinton, Henry, Austin, Roy and Cecil Vear, and a sister Vivian Mills. She is survived by her daughters Pat Joslin and husband Bob of Lebanon, N.H., Cill Ness and husband Loxley of Monroe, N.H., Linda Hains and husband Bob of Springfield, Vt.; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held in the spring.
Robert E. Lee

of Concord passed away Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009. He was a lifelong resident of Concord and was known affectionately as "Bobby." He was born in St. Johnsbury on Dec. 10, 1922, the son of Ernest and Edith (Howard) Lee. He married Virginia Nichols of Lunenburg on Aug. 2, 1947. Bobby was employed for over 40 years at Fairbanks Morse in assembly, shipping and special deliveries until he retired in 1987. His side work over the years included trucking and hauling locally and around New England. Bobby was the longtime sexton of the Concord cemeteries and further served the town of Concord as overseer-of-the-poor, tax collector and constable, and married many people as justice of the peace. For years, Bobby and Ginny enjoyed weekend getaways at their camp on the coast in Georgetown, Maine. As a wood lot owner, he liked to log and cut Christmas brush. Many of the area youth may remember their boy scouting activities at Camp Lee. He attended church at Concord, East St. Johnsbury, Lower Waterford, and Five Islands, Maine. He was a third-degree Mason at Concord Masonic Lodge and a member of the Concord Historical Society. Bobby loved to drive, and traveled far and wide delivering cars for local car dealers. He also drove school buses in Waterford, Lyndon and Lunenburg, and couriered for area banks. He is survived by Virginia, his wife of 62 years; three children, David Lee of Manchester, N.H., Brian Lee and wife Patricia of Lancaster, N.H., Candace McMahon and husband James of Whitefield, N.H.; one grandson, Devin McMahon of Manchester, N.H.; one step-granddaughter Karie Bennett and husband Randy of Whitefield, N.H.; one step-great-granddaughter Elaina. He was predeceased by two brothers, Howard Lee and Brigham Lee. His cat Patsy was a cherished companion over the last several years. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Dec. 20 at 2 p.m. at Third Congregational Church in East St. Johnsbury. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home Saturday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m. He will be buried in Grove Cemetery in East St. Johnsbury in the spring. Marion E. Potter

, 89, of Gorham, N.H., passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, at her daughter's home. She was born in St. Johnsbury, Vt., on Oct. 20, 1920, the daughter of Albert and Hope (Carpenter) Paine, and grew up in St. Johnsbury, graduating from St. Johnsbury Academy. At the age of 28, she moved to Gorham. Marion was a member of the Gorham Congregational Church, UCC, the Dupont-Holmes Post 82 American Legion Auxiliary and the Order of Eastern Star. She had been employed by Converse Rubber Co., and later at Newton Tibbetts Mill in Bethel, Maine, until her retirement. Members of the family include two sons, Bruce Potter and his wife Donna of Bethlehem, N.H., and David Potter of Gorham; a daughter, Janet MacKay and her husband Robert of Gorham; three grandchildren, Mark MacKay and his wife Cynthia of Gorham, Michelle Smith of Gorham, and Kari Baldasty and her husband Steven of Colchester, Vt.; two great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Milton E. Potter, her parents and by a brother, Palmer Paine. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held in the spring in the Mt. Erma R. Silva

, beloved wife of Francis T. (Fran) Silva, passed away on Nov. 27, 2009, in Lyndonville, Vt. at the age of 92. Erma Helene Richardson was born in Lyndonville on Feb. 28, 1917, the daughter of A. Lee and Vera (Brown) Richardson. She graduated from Lyndon Institute in 1935, having excelled in academics and music. After graduating, she spent several years working for Singer Sewing Machine in St. Johnsbury and became an accomplished seamstress. On Nov. 26, 1941, she married Clarence V. Akley of Lyndonville. She spent time in Texas and Wisconsin as an Army bride before returning to Lyndonville to live while Clarence was overseas. Erma was a devoted homemaker and mother, and was also active as a member of the First Congregational Church of Lyndonville and a volunteer for the Red Cross during World War II and the Korean Conflict. In 1960, Erma spread her wings and started attending Lyndon State College, graduating in 1964 on the same weekend that her daughter, Jeanne, graduated from Lyndon Institute. She went directly to work teaching English at Lyndon Institute in Lyndon Center. As a teacher and advisor to the class of 1970, Erma is often fondly remembered as having run a tight ship, but with TLC and enthusiasm. On July 31, 1969, Erma married Fran Silva of Springfield, Vt., and began her "second life." Erma and her small family were instantly embraced by the large and loving Silva clan, and she felt blessed to have gained two more children, two sisters, a brother and their families. In Springfield, Erma taught English for 14 years at Riverside Junior High. She also played golf with determination, made many good friends and enjoyed her new extended family. Fran and Erma eventually retired and spent winters in Poinciana, Fla., and summers at Shadow Lake in Glover, Vt. In Florida, Erma worked as a substitute teacher and part time at the golf pro shop, where she also enjoyed organizing and presenting the pro shop fashion show each year. She served as secretary for the Women's Golf Association in Poinciana for many years. In 2000, Erma and Fran returned to Lyndonville to live near family. They enjoyed renewing old friendships, making new friends and seeing the grandchildren. In February 2005, Erma went to live at The Pines Rehab and Health Center, where she was lovingly cared for by the exceptional staff and by her husband and daughters. Erma will always be remembered for her sweet, generous nature, her great love for her family and her boundless enthusiasm for life. She was predeceased by her brother and his wife C. Ross and Thelma Richardson; her sister-in-law, Eula Rusterholz; her brother-in-law Jack Akley and his wife Nora; and her brothers-in-law Gerard (Jocko) Boisvert and Adolph Shupenko. Erma is survived by her devoted husband, Fran; her children, Peter R. Akley and his wife Nancy, Jeanne Akley Elliott and her husband Arthur, Raelyn Marie Silva and her partner Christopher Soave, and Thomas F. Silva and his wife Lauri; eight grandchildren, Sarah Elliott Sherratt, Benjamin Elliott, Tanya (Akley) Buzzi-Ames, Parker Woodard, and Michaela, Anna, Gabriella and Joseph Silva; four great-grandchildren, Ethan Sherratt and Connor, Gabrielle and Isabella Ames; sisters-in-law Rachel Boisvert and Madelyn Shupenko; brother-in-law Robert Silva and his wife Barbara; and many special nieces and nephews. Helen "Toddy" E. Goss

, 95, of 100 Village Green Drive, Kittery, Maine, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, at York Hospital. Her husband, Otis S. Goss, of East Burke, Vt., predeceased her in 1994. Mrs. Goss was born Sept. 17, 1914, in East Orange, N.J., the daughter of Henry Lester Jones and Alice Ward Osmun. She graduated from Miss Porter's School in Farmington, Conn., in 1933. She raised her family in Old Greenwich, Conn., moved to Vermont in 1985 and to Maine in 1998. Mrs. Goss moved 30 times during her life, and in each location, she volunteered at the local hospital, most recently at York Hospital. She received a number of awards for her volunteer service, including special recognition for her leadership of the annual fundraiser at Northern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury, Vt. She retired from her hospital volunteer service last year after 75 years. Mrs. Goss traveled extensively, was an avid bridge player, designed and furnished doll houses, and enjoyed classical music. She is survived by her three daughters: Nancy T. Pierce and her husband Walter of Portsmouth, N.H.; Joan H. Lewis and Robert W. Hopkins, Jr. of Arlington, Va.; Lindy D. Ryan and her husband Martin of Burlington, Mass., stepson Robert Goss and his wife Jan of Goshen, Mass., and stepdaughter Edith Goss of Stone Mountain, Ga. In addition, she is survived by seven grandchildren: Kathryn Hobbs and her husband Erik of North Attleboro, Mass.; Corie Pierce and Christopher Dorman of Craftsbury Common, Vt.; Heather Roy and her husband Daniel of Southborough, Mass.; Jason Ryan and his wife Jill of Norwood, Mass.; Melissa Ryan of Burlington, Mass.; Chris Flynn and her husband Patrick of Goshen, Mass.; and Julie Garrett and her husband Greg of Winston-Salem, N.H.; and 11 great-grandchildren. She also leaves her sister Margery MacMillan of Duxbury, Mass., and her dearest friend Martha Potter of Kittery. The family will host a reception at her home on Sunday, Jan. 17 from 3 to 6 p.m. to honor and celebrate Toddy's life. 70, of Barton passed away in Newport after a short illness. She was born on Sept. 9, 1939 in Newport a daughter of Kleon and Bethleen (Tillotson) Kelley. She married Colen Mosher in 1958 who predeceased her in 2004. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday Dec. 23, 2009 at the Irasburg United Church with Pastor George Lawson officiating. Dorothy B. Delisle

, 87, of Littleton, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009 at the Lafayette Center in Franconia, N.H. after a long illness. She was born Oct. 6, 1922 in Woodsville, N.H. She was married to Joseph W. Delisle on May 29, 1946. They owned and operated Profile Cleaners and Laundromats in Littleton, N.H. and several area towns. Family members include her son David and his wife Marydith of Duluth, Minn. and daughter Susan of Littleton, N.H. She is also survived by two grandsons Jason and Matthew and two great granddaughters Breanne and Kara as well as one sister, Cora Wedge of Southbridge, Mass. and several brothers and sisters-in-law. Dorothy will be remembered as a very kind and caring person who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. The family has chosen to celebrate her life with a private service officiated by Rev. Fr. Marcel Martel. The family extends their sincere thanks to the Littleton Area Senior Center for their many acts of kindness. Richard Orin Richards

, Bishop Road, Lisbon, N.H., died on Monday, Dec. 14, after a brave battle with leukemia. He was 79 years old. "Tink" was born on May 21, 1930, the son of Raymond and Doris (Sargent) Richards. He was a graduate of Lisbon High School and following graduation, enlisted in the Army to serve in the war effort during the Korean Conflict. A mechanic by trade, Tink received his nickname as a child, always tinkering with things that could be torn apart and rebuilt. He worked into his 70s, pumping gas, working on lawn movers and caretaking and officially "retired" in 2005. Prior to his illness his days were filled with gardening, tending to his chickens, grounds-keeping, and fixing whatever needed to be fixed. He particularly enjoyed panning for gold and traveling to Maine with his loving companion Barbara Bergin and dog Sophie. He also enjoyed his daily visits with the "crew" at Du-Ez and perhaps missed this the most during the last four months of his life. Tink was predeceased by his parents, his brothers William and Roland Richards, and his sister Margaret Tewksbury. He is survived by his brother Robert Richards of Littleton, N.H.; his best friend Phil Poore Sr., of Lisbon; and his five daughters and their husbands Bette and Bob Liveston, Janice and Robert Fogg of Lisbon, Beverly and Neal Boyd, Sr. of North Swanzey, N.H., Ramona and Glenn Sirico of McKenney, Va., and Jeanette and Tim Crosby of Seabec, Wash. He also leaves behind several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. At his request, private services will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations to Littleton Regional Hospital Association's Oncology Unit will be greatly appreciated.

, 53, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. He was born the son of the late Stanley and Jane (Pearce) Yeargle on Oct. 11, 1956 in Littleton, N.H. He attended Littleton schools prior to working at local schools doing janitorial work. He then went on to work in the sanitation field and subsequently the founder of Yeargles Trash Removal. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, pistol shooting and spending time with family and friends. He shared a godson, Elmer Paquette, Jr. with his wife of 32 years, Brenda (Newton) Yeargle. He is also survived by three brothers and sisters-in-law; David and Linda, Warren and Irene and Bruce, one sister and brother-in-law Mary and Walter Morton, seven nieces and eight nephews. Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, at Cushman Cemetery, Dalton with Rev. Lyn O. Winter officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials donations may be made to the Franconia Community Church of Christ or the Littleton Fire Department.
