They lived most of their married life in Topsham where they raised four children and many grandchildren. Wayland was known by many as a very outgoing and happy man. He served a short military service from January 1958 to 1960 in the United States Army which included a brief tour of Germany in the radio communications division. For several years he drove truck hauling various materials across New England. He seemed to take joy in this occupation among other activities, one being his lifelong comrade Shadow, a 21-year-old Morgan horse. Peewee took great joy in watching and helping his family grow over the years. He will always be remembered for his selflessness and glowing personality. Above all else this gentle man always put everybody's needs before his own, which in turn made him one of the most beloved and humble men in town. The one thing he enjoyed most was watching and helping his family grow throughout the years, he kept his family very close and especially loved spending time with them. He was a good truck driver for many years before retiring in 2002. He loved being surrounded by his grandchildren with him and seeing their enjoyment at parks, his horse Shadow and family gatherings. Peewee did not want sadness for his death but happiness. He lived a long and happy life and had a very large and loving family. He believes he will be with his family that passed before him and that he missed. He really couldn't wait to see his dad again. He knows his family will take care of each other until we are all together again. He is survived by his wife Eleanor Butler; one son, Steven A. Butler and wife Christine; three daughters, Rebecca (Becky) Williams and husband Wesley, Donna Welch and husband Jeffery and Annette Hood and husband Harold; also grandchildren, Malik, Jade, and Arthur Butler, Eric and Christopher Dexter, Brandi and Thomas Williams, Kylie Butler, Wayland (Tigger) Welch, Brandon Gurney; and one great-granddaughter, Kortney Darling; one brother, Lawrence (Lefty) Butler; two sisters, Madalyne (Dee Dee) Huntington and Virginia Thurston. , 70, formerly of Auburn, Maine, died Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at her home in Keller, Texas, after a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Betty was born in Vermont and grew up in New Hampshire before moving to Maine and marrying her beloved husband Albert in 1964. Betty cared deeply for children, dedicating her life to raising foster children and running a day care in her Auburn home. In over 35 years as foster parents, Betty and Albert cared for more than 150 children, loving each one as if they were their own. Betty generously provided each child a loving home with hopes that they would successfully reunite with their birth parents. Betty's passion for foster children reached outside her home as she played an instrumental role in the greater Maine foster parent community. She served as president of the Tri-County Foster/Adoptive Parent Association, where she trained and provided ongoing education and support for new foster parents and social workers. Up until last summer, Betty continued to work for the betterment of foster children and families, working to help these children toward adoption and working with parents to learn parenting skills so they could be reunited with their children. Betty was a strong person who refused to slow down, even after being diagnosed with ALS, continuing with her plan to move to Texas this past summer to live with her daughter's family. Betty was most proud of her children and her grandchildren, always looking forward to the next time that she would see them. Betty is survived by her husband Albert Greenleaf; her children, LeAnn Greenleaf and husband Seth Goodall, Scott Greenleaf and wife Tina, Julie Jones (Greenleaf) and husband Richard, Joshua Greenleaf and step-son Michael Gaudet; and grandchildren Connor, Brady, Alison, Jacob, Brenna, Brianna and Brittany.
