of Tempe, Ariz., formerly of St. Johnsbury, passed away on Aug. 28, 2009, at the Desert Banner Hospital with her loving family by her side. She was born on July 23, 1941, the daughter of the late Leonard and Olive Root Sr. She was an alumna of St. Johnsbury Academy Class of 1959. Joanne and her husband, Arthur, recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 3. Joanne is survived by her husband, Arthur, and her three children, Gary Hesseltine (Kim), Karen Byrne (Gary), Vicki Johnson (Steve); nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Leonard Root Jr. of Danville, Robert Root (Joyce) of Waterford and Glenn Root of East Windsor, Conn.; three sisters, Lorraine Dodge (Walter) of Waterford, Betty O'Rourke (Alfred) of Marshfield and Gloria Randall (Neil) of Bradford; several nieces and nephews. Her sisters Mary Pitkat, Barbara Randall and her husband George and sisters-in-law Jean Root and Marion Root predeceased her. Joanne was active with Relay For Life through The American Cancer Society. , 55, of East Charleston, beloved husband of Grace Frizzell, died suddenly Aug. 30, 2009, in West Charleston. He was born Feb. 9, 1954, in Concord, a son of Kenneth and Ellen (Jessman) Frizzell. He grew up in Lunenburg, Gilman and Wallingford. On May 25, 1974, he married Grace Colburn who survives him. After his marriage he lived in Rutland for a short time and more recently in East Charleston. He was employed by Tivoly in Derby Line where he was a steel receiver and cut off operator for more than 30 years. Kenneth was a devoted father, attending all his children's sport and school functions. He was also a delinquent tax collector for the Town of Charleston. He loved to hunt, snowmobile, play cards with his friends, and especially play with his grand boys. He was also a little league coach. He was a member of the Plymouth Congregational Church in East Charleston, Charleston Historical Society, Past Master of the Island Pond Lodge # 44 F & AM, Master of Valley Lodge 106 and past District Deputy Grand Master District # 10, Mount Sinai Shrine Temple # 3, Northeast Fire Brigade Parade Unit, Treasurer of the North Star Chapter #25 O.E.S., Charleston Volunteer Fire Dept and their past Treasurer, and Charleston Town Fire Warden. He is survived by his wife Grace Frizzell of East Charleston; his children Amy Sherlaw and her husband Fred of Derby, and Daniel Frizzell and his wife Alicia of Bristol; and by his cherished grandchildren Sam and Evan Sherlaw of Derby and Owen and Jack Frizzell of Bristol. He is survived by his brother and sisters, Edie Jones and her husband Gary of West Palm Beach, Fla., Robert Frizzell and his wife Audrey of East Charleston, Joan Henry of Claremont, N.H., Carol Bolduc and her husband Henry of Haverhill, Mass., Genie Davis and her husband Martin of East Charleston; his father-in-law Richard Colburn Sr. of East Charelston; his brother-in-law Richard Colburn Jr. and his wife Diane of East Charleston; and by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Kenneth and Ellen Frizzell; his mother-in-law Alta Colburn; and by a brother-in-law Charles Henry. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3, at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Memorial Chapel, 37 Lake Road, Newport. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 4, at the Plymouth Congregational Church in East Charleston with the Rev. Richard Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. Should friends desire, contributions in his memory may be made to the Masonic Union Lodge # 44 F&AM, in care of Homer Selby, P.O. , 82, of Old West Road, West Barnet, died on Monday, Aug. 31, 2009, at her home, following an extended illness. She was born in St. Johnsbury on July 13, 1927, the daughter of Carl Oscar and Emma Sophia (Johnson) Johnson. She graduated from Peacham Academy, Class of 1945. Vera married Joseph Laural Roy on Aug. 19, 1945. Vera and her husband, Joe, operated the MacLeroy Farm in West Barnet. This family dairy farm has been in the Roy Family since 1785. She is a 63-year member of the Presbyterian Church of Barnet at West Barnet, where she has held numerous offices and positions, and also a member of the Lakeview Grange. She was also involved with the West Barnet Fall Foliage activities and the Goodwillie House. Vera conceived the idea of and worked to establish Ye Olde Church Store in West Barnet. She was an active member of the Peacham Academy Alumni Association. She was always a reliable community resource by making sure her neighbors and friends had a ride to their appointments, and assisting them within their homes. She was predeceased by her brother, Ralph Johnson. Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Joseph Laural Roy of West Barnet; her children, Patricia L. R. Willey and husband Duane of West Barnet, Bruce L. Roy and wife Catherine of West Barnet, Joanne R. Temple and husband David of East Burke, Robert P. Roy and wife Sandy of West Barnet, and Dianne L. Roy of Rutland; special family member and caregiver, Janet Locke of West Barnet; two sisters, Miriam Hatch of West Barnet and twin sister Verna Varnum and husband James of Peacham; 19 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service will be on Thursday, Sept. 10, at 1 p.m., at The Presbyterian Church of Barnet at West Barnet, with Rev. Dr. Dwight White officiating. A reception will follow in the church vestry. Burial will be in the West Barnet Cemetery. , 79, of South Burlington, died on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2009, at her home following a short illness with her family at her side. She was born in Disraeli, Ontario on March 30, 1930, the daughter of Albert and Leah (Martin) Couture. She was married to George McQuade who predeceased her in 1985. Dolores was an articulate homemaker and together with her husband they raised five children. She and George moved to St. Johnsbury from Rhode Island in 1962, where they founded Shop & Save food markets which they ran until George's death. Dolores moved to So. Burlington in 2004 to be nearer to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, revisiting St. Johnsbury and Harvey's Lake and attending her grandson's baseball games. She also enjoyed bus trips to Montreal, salty margarita's, the Red Sox and road trips with her son David. She will be dearly missed by her family. She is survived by her daughters JoAnne McQuade of South Burlington, and Maureen Price and her husband Andrew of South Burlington; her sons Peter McQuade of Concord, David McQuade of Winooski, and Brian McQuade and his wife Michelle of San Francisco; and her grandchildren Erika and Ben Price and Bill McQuade. A Committal Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2009, in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, St. John Street, St. Johnsbury. There will be no public visiting hours. , 60, of St. Johnsbury, died suddenly Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009. She was born in New York City, Oct. 10, 1948, the daughter of Edward J. and Malvina (Broglio) Zuccaro. She was married to Pierre H. Berube. She attended schools in Floral Park, N.Y., and graduated from Lyndon State College. Lorraine was a fun-loving homemaker, who adored her husband Pierre, and their two cats Oliver Sutton and Desdemona. She was a Civil War buff who read everything she could find about the Civil War. She loved and was known for wearing big hats, giving elegant dinner parties and joshing with friends. Lorraine was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church in St. Johnsbury, where she prepared baked goods for the Christmas Bazaar and for after-Mass coffee hours. She had been a Justice of the Peace for many years, was a member of the Republican Town and County Committees, belonged to the St. J. Women's Club, the St. J. Rotary Club and had been a long-time member of the Old Mill Racquet Club's aerobics class. She leaves her husband Pierre, of St. Johnsbury (37 Highland Avenue); her mother, Malvina Zuccaro of Ryegate, Vt., now residing at Maple Lane Nursing home in Barton, Vt.; her brother Edward R. Zuccaro and wife Carol of St. Johnsbury, (119 Summer St): a nephew, Rev. James E. Zuccaro, St. Joseph's Parish, Chester, Vt.; a niece, Gina Zuccaro Towle and husband, Major Wyeth M. Towle of California, (176 Caligornia Court, Mission Viejo 92692); an Uncle Edward Broglio and wife Mildred of Joplin, Mo.; and five cousins and their familes. She was predeceased by her father, Edward J. Zuccaro, April 6, 1989, and by two maiden aunts, Mary Zuccaro and Emma Zuccaro. Visiting hours will be held at Sayles Funeral Home, Friday evening Sept. 4 from 6 to 8 p.m., and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Sept. 5, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Celebrant will be her nephew Fr. , 51, of Macks Mt. Road, Peacham, died Monday, Aug. 31, 2009, from injuries in a motorcycle accident in Westmore. Robert was born in St. Johnsbury on June 23, 1958, the son of Albert and Marilyn (Hagen) Petrie. He was a graduate of Danville High School, Class of 1976. Rob worked for 29 years at Weidmann Electrical Technologies in St. Johnsbury. While working at Weidmann, he worked as a multi-skilled technician for the business and worked different shifts when needed. Rob was an avid outdoorsman enjoying fishing, hunting, animals, and wildlife. He had enjoyed weightlifting and golfing. He was a very thoughtful and generous man who liked giving his time and energy to others. Robert's family encompassed a large circle of very close friends in addition to his immediate family. His time spent with each one was golden. Motorcycling was an important passion in his life. He was a member of the Harley Owners Group and the Iron Warriors power lifting group in Lyndonville. For several years he participated in the Toys for Tots motorcycle run. Rob also liked to tell stories and jokes with his dry sense of humor. He was predeceased by his father, Albert Petrie Sr. on Oct. 6, 1991, and his father in law Oscar Larose. Survivors include his mother, Marilyn Petrie of Peacham; his wife, Sylvia (Larose) Petrie of West Burke; five siblings, Carol McMullen and husband Clifford of Middleton, N.H., Albert Petrie, Jr. of Peacham, Sandra Greenwood and husband Richard of East Peacham, Sharon Mudge and George of Citrus Springs, Fla., and Lori Taylor and husband Robert of Cutchogue, N.Y.; two step sons, Allen Fisher and Oliver Fisher both of West Burke, Vt.; three step grandchildren, Ryley Fisher, Jordan Fisher, and Blake Fisher; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins; his step mother Madeleine Larose of West Burke, and his dear friends, Pete and Angela Williamson and their children, Jacob and Jackie. Calling hours will be on Friday, Sept. 4, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH. A funeral service will be on Saturday, Sept. 5, at 2 p.m., at The First Baptist Church of Groton, 1115 Scott Memorial Highway, Groton, VT, with Pastor Dennis Walton officiating. , age 67, passed away, Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009, at the Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital following a brief illness. Born Aug. 17, 1942, in Newport to Andrew S. and Freda M. (Morrow) Richardson, she grew up in Newport and St. Johnsbury, attending school in the St. Johnsbury area. She married Raymond Barnes Aug. 15, 1966, in St. Johnsbury; he predeceased her. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, her pets, and flowers. She also enjoyed cooking. She would not let anyone go away hungry. Patricia is survived by her four children, Raymond Barnes, Nyia Bean and fiancée, Brian Kittridge, Michael Barnes, all of St. Johnsbury, and Dwayne Barnes and wife, Tiffany of Waterford; six grandchildren, Tyler, Brittney, Alicia, Rufus IV, Derek, and Breanna; her dogs, Chico and Pablo; and sister, Joyce Phelps of Burlington. She was predeceased by a sister Janice. There will be no calling hours and services will be held at the convenience of the family.

She was born in St. Malo, Quebec, April 10, 1923, the daughter of Wilfred and Laura (Roy) Paradis. Her husband Hector "Pat" McDonald passed away Oct. 10, 1994. Gabe was a waitress at the Candlelight, Hilltopper, and Aime's restaurants, and loved to play bingo. Gabe was devoted to her family and always had a witty reply ready for her family and friends. She is survived by four children, Patricia Wasatonic and husband Jack of Greenville, S.C., William McDonald and wife Linda of Salisbury, N.C., Janet Gunsolus and husband Cliff of Fox, Okla., David McDonald and wife Michele of St. Johnsbury; nine grandchildren, Matthew and Amy; Chris; Michael and Kristy; Michelle, Kellie, Melissa, and Garret; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Claire Dube of Exton, Pa., and Alice Preseault of Irasburg; sister-in-law Nancy Paradis of Portsmouth, N.H.: nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers Maurice, Gerald, and Paul; and two sisters Yvette Scott and Beatrice Villeneuve. Funeral services will be held at the Sayles Funeral Home Monday, Sept. 7, at 11 a.m., with Fr. Dwight Baker conducting the service. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
