, 75, of Dartmouth College Highway, North Haverhill, N.H., died March 11, 2009, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born in North Haverhill on Oct. 19, 1933, a son of Stanley F. and Edna Marion (Keith) Fadden Sr. He attended schools in Haverhill and Woodsville, N.H. Stanley married Charlotte Benzie on Oct. 18, 1952. Stub worked on farms in Vermont and New Hampshire and also painted houses in New Jersey. In 1951 he went to work for Clinton "Slim" Hazlett at Slims Service Center in North Haverhill, as a mechanic. He worked there until Jan. 1, 1957, when he rented a garage from Finlay and Helen Sleeper, starting his own business as Stub's Service Station, later changing the name to Fadden Automotive, Inc. He worked long hours and enjoyed it. He was a member of the Pink Granite Grange in North Haverhill, Grafton Kane Lodge #46 F+AM, Connecticut River Valley Cruisers, and was an Incorporator of the Wells River Savings Bank. He was a former member of the North Haverhill Volunteer Fire Department and served as Chief from 1969 to 1975, was a Forest Fire Warden, and North Haverhill Precinct Commissioner. Stub's racing career spanned four decades. His racing highlights included being a multi-time Track Champion at Thunder Road in Barre, and Catamount Stadium in Milton, being Track Champion in 1980 at Mount Laurier, Quebec, two-time winner of Vermont's prestigious "Vermont Milk Bowl" at Thunder Road, winner of the first ever Molson Bash at Thunder Road, and Triple Crown winner of the NASCAR North 250, held in Nelles Corner, Ontario. Stub won the New England 200 and New England 300 held at Catamount Stadium, the Don McTavish Award in 1976 and the NASCAR North Tour Sportsmanship Award in 1968, 1981, and 1990. Over his career he won over 230 short track events before moving to the Nascar Touring Series. Stub had 13 wins over 200 starts in NASCAR events. Stub was also very proud helping three of his grandsons in their own racing careers, Michael Olsen, Todd Aldrich, and Travis Fadden. Stub and his grandson, Mike Olsen are the only Grandfather/Grandson Team in NASCAR history. Stub retired from full time racing in 1998. He participated in special events in 2001 and 2003. Stub was inducted into the New England Auto Racers Hall of Fame, Feb. 2, 2003. Everyone will remember the legendary #16 going around the track. He was happy when working, helping others, and building and racing stock cars. Stub enjoyed family, friends old and new, and all generations. He was particularly fond of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Stanley F. Fadden, Sr. on Jan. 27, 1985, Edna M. Fadden on Dec. 17, 1990; a sister, Madelyn; and a brother, Arnold "Joe" Fadden. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Charlotte (Benzie) Fadden; their children, Charlene H. Aldrich and husband John C., and Alvin S. Fadden and wife Diana, all of North Haverhill; six grandchildren, Michael Olsen and wife Vicki, of North Haverhill, Heather Rochefort and husband David of Littleton, N.H., Amy Kopp and husband Keith of Lancaster, N.H., Todd Aldrich and wife Maryanne of North Haverhill, Travis and Abby Fadden of North Haverhill; three great-granddaughters, Elizabeth and Anna Rochefort and Emily Kopp; four great-grandsons, Ryan and Garrett Olsen, Matthew Kopp and Samuel Aldrich; two sisters, Marie Lovell and husband John of Maidstone, and Eleanor "Sue" and husband Theodore "Ted" Lang of North Haverhill; a brother, Richard Fadden of North Haverhill; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. A Masonic Service will be conducted by Grafton-Kane Lodge #46 F+AM on Sunday, March 15, at 1:30 p.m., with public calling hours following on Sunday, March 15, from 2 to 5 p.m., at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH. The funeral service will be on Monday, March 16, at 1 p.m., at the North Haverhill United Methodist Church, 2900 Dartmouth College Highway, North Haverhill, NH, with Pastor Susan Ellery officiating. , 72, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on March 6, 2009, at the Serenity House in Morresville after a long battle with cancer. She was born Dec. 10, 1936, the daughter of William A. and Hattie J. Emery of Monroe, N.H. She attended Monroe Graded School and McIndoes Academy. She was predeceased by her husband Asbarry Graham. She is survived by one brother, Kenneth Emery and wife Sheila of Columbus, N.M.; three sisters, Brenda Caylor and husband Sidney of Flagstaff, Ariz., Verda Bailey of Littleton, N.H., and Linda MacIver and husband Stephen of Littleton; a dear sister-in-law, Margaret Graham of Sumter, S.C.; as well as many nieces and nephews. Services were held at Raymar Funeral Home, Huntersville, N.C., on Sunday, March 8, and a memorial service on Monday, March 9, at Forest Lawn Cemetery. , 83, of Camels Hump Drive, Barre, died peacefully Thursday, March 12, 2009, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born July 1, 1925, in Montpelier, she was the daughter of Maurice and Lucy (Bailey) Watkins. She was a graduate of Spaulding High School in Barre in 1943 and from Skidmore College in Saratoga, N.Y., in 1947 with a bachelors degree in music education. She had taught music in the Malden, Ma., education system. On June 28, 1947, she married Robert Claron Allen in Barre, Vt. Most of their married life had been spent in Barre and were long time winter residents of Rotonda West, Fla. Sylvia enjoyed every moment of a wonderful life. Together with her husband Bob of 61 years, she raised a family of five boys, which was her top priority. Spending time with her sons, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were most important. She also enjoyed teaching her great grand children to play the piano and painting. Also, singing, knitting, and working the crossword puzzle in the New York Times were other hobbies. She was a long time member of the Barre Universalist Church and belonged to the Association of Universalist Women, as well as, serving many years as director of the church choir, as well as other aspects of its musical ministry. Her other memberships included the Country Club of Barre, the Oakland Hills Country Club of Rotonda, Fla., the Alumnae Association of the Spaulding High School Class of 1943, and the Skidmore Class of 1947, the Central Vermont Hospital Auxillary Gift Shop and had been chairperson of the its Television Program for over 20 years. Additional memberships the Philomathian Club, Granite Center Garden Club, and the Tourist Club. She was active in most of these organizations until her death. She was an avid painter, belonging to the Barre Paletteers, and had received several awards at their summer exhibition. Also, she had been a Hospice Volunteer in Barre, as well as Rotonda West. Besides her husband, she is survived by five sons and their spouses, Gary and Marilyn Allen, Burnie and Debbie Allen, Paul and Helen Allen, and Steven and Wendy Allen, all of Barre Town; as well as, Tom Allen and Ami Milne-Allen of St. Johnsbury. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and her beloved sister, Betty Watkins Reid and her family. In addition her sister-in-law, Connie Allen Calcagni and her husband Alfred, and their family, survive her. Sylvia's Service of Remembrance and Celebration of Her Life will be held Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at 2 p.m., in the Barre Universalist Church. Burial will be made in the Hope Cemetery. of North Concord passed away peacefully at home Saturday, March 14, 2009, at the age of 77. Born in St. Johnsbury on June 1, 1931, his parents were the late Bernard and Doris (Story) Willson. Just this past Valentines Day, he and Sandra Lillicrap were married after being together for the last 28 years. Donald was a longtime millwright at Fairbanks Scales. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a life member of VFW Post #793 and a member of American Legion Post #58. He was an avid hunter and in his later years enjoyed capturing game with his camera. He is survived by his wife Sandy (PO Box 669, North Concord, VT 05858) and her extended family; three sisters: Mable Noble, Marilyn Kragh, and Lois Cole; three children: Diane Perkins (PO Box 305, Concord, VT 05824), David Willson (PO Box 217, Concord, VT 05824), and Douglas Willson (426 Cross Road, Waterford, VT 05819); five grandchildren: Amy Perkins, Eric Perkins and wife Jennifer, Jennifer Willson-Clark, Taylor and Derek Willson; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers: William and Raymond Willson, and one sister Eleanor Jordan. Visiting hours will be held at the Sayles Funeral Home this Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. and will conclude with a prayer service led by the Rev. Robert H. Sargent, chaplain of the VFW Post #793. Burial will be at the North Concord Cemetery in May. of Passumpsic passed away at home Sunday, March 15, 2009, at the age of 93. She was born in Richford, on Feb. 29, 1916, one of nine children raised by Charles and Minnie (Laflamme) Westover. After being married to William Santaw, she married Ralph Houghton in 1960; he predeceased her in 1982. Mabel was very comfortable in her little home on Grange Hall Lane in Passumpsic where she lived for the past 40 years. She had worked at St. Johnsbury Glovers for over 35 years. She is survived by three daughters, Eleanor Lund and husband Milton of Waterford, Agnes Anderson and husband Bacil of Enosburg Falls, Lorraine Racine of Waterford; eight of her grandchildren, Donna Lund, Norma Racine, Nancy Newton, Susan Tanner, Monica Burnor, Jayne Belanger, Jeffrey Racine and Laurie Johnson; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Doris Bowen of Rochester, and Theresa Bruce of Lebanon, N.H.; one brother Harland Westover of Waterbury Center; nieces, nephews and their families. Besides her husband Ralph, she was predeceased by a son-in-law Ernie Racine; a granddaughter Sandra Carpenter; three sisters Genevieve Deyette, Hazel Collins, and Alice Westover; a brother Edmond Westover; and a brother Larry Westover. The family acknowledges and appreciates all the care given by her live-in caregiver, Erlene Loura, as well as by Jeff and Holly, and Norma's constant thoughtfulness and concern. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home Thursday morning from 9 to 11 a.m. and will conclude with a prayer service led by Father Jon Schnobrich. , of Monroe, N.H., died peacefully at his home on Monday, March 16, 2009. He was born Sept. 28, 1930, the son of Henry and Arlene (Williams) Stuart of Concord, Vt. He attended school in Kirby. His family later moved to Cabot where he established his own milk route. On Dec. 5, 1953, he married Arlene Royston. Four days later, Dec. 9, 1953, he left to serve in the Korean conflict. He returned home on Nov. 26, 1955, and together with his wife Arlene, they purchased the Royston Farm in Barnet. The family worked this farm for 30 years. Desmond and Arlene moved to Monroe, N.H., in 1985. Desmond started his own business, Big D Trucking. He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Arlene Stuart; brothers Claude and John Stuart; two sisters Florence Stuart Ward and Cora Stuart Jones. Survivors include his wife, Arlene, of 55 years; two daughters Cheryl Stuart Stahler and friend Steve MacDonald of Waterford, and Marion Stuart Classen of St. Johnsbury and friend Doug Cross; grandchildren Lindsey and Justin Stahler, and Benjamin and Meredith Classen, and Benjamin's fiancée Lindsey Palmieri, and Benjamin's daughter Jenna Marie. He is also survived by three sisters and two brothers Evelyn Hastings of Danville, Ethel Lunnie of Concord, Reginald Stuart of Waterford, Henry Stuart and wife Millie of Concord, and Elaine Merchand and husband Ray of North Monroe; one brother-in-law, Kenneth Ward of Danville; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Desmond enjoyed his long life of working hard, and in his later years he enjoyed "snailing around," visiting with friends, neighbors, and family and seeing the wildlife. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed talking with people and learning about the latest transactions in the county. He was particularly fond of his family including his two daughters (Marion and Cheryl), four grandchildren (Lindsey and Justin, and Benjamin and Meredith) and great-grandchild, Jenna Marie. The family acknowledges and appreciates the thoughtfulness of Mike Classen, Howie Stahler, Melvin Hale, April and Russell Brown, and Gloria and Jim Carr. Clarence F. Olcott

, 92, was a longtime dairy farmer on the Severance Hill Road in East St. Johnsbury. He passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, March 17, 2009, at his St. Johnsbury home on Sunset Drive. He was born in Kirby on Feb. 25, 1917, one of six children born to Harold and Nellie Avis (Elliott) Olcott. Besides being a dairy farmer, Clarence also logged his land and worked for Vance Tree Co. He and his brother Leo went to all the horse-pulling events all summer long right through the fair season. He was a true Vermonter, could sell anything, and was a jack of all trades/master of none. He trucked raw milk (in the old milk cans!) for the area farmers and drove pulp truck for years. He is survived by special friend Rena Sheppard of St. Johnsbury; six children, Mary Lou Carroll whose last known residence was in Montpelier, Clarisse Chesebrough of East St. Johnsbury, Louise Townsend of East Haven, Norma Townsend of West Virginia, Gloria Olcott of Largo, Fla., and Michael Olcott of Lyndonville; 20 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a brother Glen Olcott of East St. Johnsbury; and a sister Iris Secore of Keene, N.H.; as well as nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by an infant son Clarence Jr.; two brothers Henry Olcott Sr. and Leo Olcott; and one sister Dora Tillotson. A gathering of friends and family will be held at the Sayles Funeral Home this Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and will conclude with a brief prayer service. , age 86, Littleton, N.H., passed away at his home on Wednesday, March 18. Fred was born on Dec. 27, 1922, a son to Clayton E. and Mary E (Thompson) Tabbut in Providence, R.I. He attended high school in Providence. Fred served five years in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked as an engineer for a radio station in Lenoir, N.C. He married Louise (Savage) Tabbut in 1952 and they lived in North Carolina prior to moving to Littleton, N.H., in 1953. He started Tabbut's TV, which he owned and operated for 35 years. After retiring from his business, Fred worked for Wal-Mart in Littleton in the electronic department up until his death. Fred loved to read, fish, travel, and was an avid bowler for many years. He was a devoted father and husband, and his first concern was always for his family and home. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Louise Tabbut of Littleton; his daughter, Karen and her husband, Stephen Wilbur of Westford, Vt.; and a granddaughter, Erin of Portland, Ore. He was predeceased by his son, Andrew. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 23, at 11 a.m. at the Pillsbury Funeral Home located at 101 Union Street in Littleton, with Military Honors presented by the V.F.W. Howard Shawney Post #816. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fred's memory to the Littleton Public Library, 109 Main Street, Littleton, NH 03561.
Emeric Joseph Tanguay

, 94, died peacefully at home in Greensboro Bend on Sunday, March 22, 2009, with family at his side. He was born in St. Justine, Quebec, on Dec. 23, 1914. The son of Amedee Tanguay and Josephine Ferland Tanguay, Emeric was the seventh of eight children. In 1916 the family emigrated to the U.S. to operate a dairy farm on Center Road in Hardwick. In 1920 the family traded this farm for one on Stevens Hill in Walden. Emeric attended school in Walden, began milking cows at age 6, and drove a truck by age 8. With his older sister, Christine, he helped operate the farm until 1930, when his ailing father sold it. Emeric drove a delivery truck until he and his mother purchased a dairy farm on Hardwick Street in East Hardwick in 1931. He farmed, hired himself out for field plowing with his tractor, and cut ice on Caspian Lake. He married Jeannette Morin in 1940. When Emeric developed an allergic reaction to cows, they moved to a logging camp in Jacksonville. In 1948 Emeric purchased the former Heiger Garage in Greensboro Bend, which he operated as Tanguay's Garage for more than 50 years. He fixed everything from the neighborhood children's bicycles to tractors that broke down in the field. He also made "house calls" to start frozen vehicles and thaw frozen pipes in winter. His garage was a gathering place for many. Emeric was known for his cheerful spirit and for working outside on cars in frigid temperatures without gloves. In addition to his work as a mechanic, Emeric was a skilled dowser, locating water for many, and a favorite raconteur at the annual French Heritage Festival in Hardwick. He was a 4th Degree member of the Brownson Council Assembly 1155 of the Knights of Columbus in Hardwick and a communicant at St. Michael's Church in Greensboro Bend. In 1988 Emeric was awarded the Greensboro Award. Emeric will be greatly missed by his wife, Jeannette Morin Tanguay of Greensboro Bend. He is the beloved father of Jacqueline Molleur and husband, Gilles of Derby Line, Louise Menard and husband Raymond of Montpelier, and Diane Tanguay of Walden. He is "Pepere" to Mark Molleur of Stannard, Anne Molleur Hanson of Craftsbury, Melissa Menard of Denver, Colo., Sarah Menard of Barre, and Amanda Menard of Montpelier. He also leaves five great-grandchildren and devoted caregivers Beatrix Devlin of Greensboro Bend and Evelyn Rich of Stannard. He was pre-deceased by his father, Amedee, his mother, Josephine, and his siblings Leonie, Josaphat, Emilien, Julia, Anna Marie, Rejane, and Christine. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, March 27, at 11 a.m., at St. Michael's Church in Greensboro Bend. The family will receive friends at calling hours on Thursday, March 26, from 4 to 7 p.m., at des Groseilliers Funeral Homes on Church Street in Hardwick. Spring interment will be at the St. Michael's Parish Cemetery in Greensboro Bend.
