, Frank was born April 1915 in Laconia, N.H, the eldest of nine sons born to Frank and Caroline Boutwell. His brothers were Edwin, Newell, Elwin, George, Lewis, Ray, Haven and Jim. They grew up on the Water Andric, near Danville where he met his future wife, Alpa Swett, while attending Pumpkin Hill School. Frank graduated from Danville High and Laconia Business College. Frank was proud of the years he served in the U.S. Army in the 176th Infantry as a guard at the U.S. Capital, in Germany in the 565th Tank Battalion under George Patton, and from 1951-1955 in the 120th Ordnance Division. Alpa was born to Vera and Walter Swett on St. Patrick's Day, 1918. She and her brother, Paul, were raised on the family farm on Crow Hill, Danville. Alpa graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy and Lyndon State Teachers College and taught at several country schools, Summer Street in St. J and St. J Center. They married in 1942. When Frank returned from WWII they bought and farmed Sunnybrook Farm at St. J Center until 1951 when he was called back into the Army. Alpa and their daughter, Heather, were able to join him in Europe. In 1955, they bought the International Harvester business at St. J Center and Alpa taught at the Center School. Moving to Denver, Frank worked at Martin Marietta on the U.S. Space Program, supervising the building of the lunar moon module and the construction and installation of Titan missiles throughout the United States. Alpa continued to teach, retiring in 1980. Frank passed away in 2003 and Alpa died on Feb. 19, 2009. They enjoyed fishing, hiking and hunting in the Colorado high country, traveling in their camper, and doing all the construction on their home. Frank also enjoyed restoring 1965 Mustang convertibles and collecting cowboy gear. He continued to ride his mule, Radar, elk hunting until he was 81. Alpa's passions included cooking, quilting and planting flowers. She was especially proud of having survived over 70 years with Type I Brittle Diabetes. They are survived by their daughter, Heather, son-in-law, Dick Navratil (Frank's hunting partner), and their beloved grandson, Scott, all of Fort Collins, Colo.; three of Frank's brothers Lewis (Seattle, Wash.), Ray (Cherry Hills, N.J.) and Haven (Windsor Locks, Conn.); sister-in-law Joyce Swett (St. Johnsbury); numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and their life long friend from Pumpkin Hill, Ken Ward. They are preceded in death by their parents; brothers; and Alpa's cousins Natalie Rogers Capron, (Springfield, Vt.), Barbara Rogers Emmons (Danville), Marjorie Mitchell McKay (Topsham) and Warren Mitchell, (Newport). A scholarship fund was established in Frank's name at Danville High School in 2003. A memorial in Alpa's honor has been established at Elderhaus, 605 Shields Ave, Fort Collins, CO, 80521. Elderhaus is a program helping families by providing daycare for elderly family members who are unable to care for themselves, thus allowing family members to work, to attend appointments and still be able to have their loved ones live at home with them.

, 42, of West Charleston, Vt., died suddenly March 5, 2009, in Newport. He was born March 3, 1967, in Newport beloved son of Janice Jacobs and Antonio "Bud" Lontine. Alan was a truck driver for Carroll Concrete Company. He held membership with the Newport Elks Club Lodge #2155, Orleans Post American Legion, #23 Son of American Legion, Masonic Lodge #65 F&AM, Shriners, and he was a former member of the Barton Fire Department. He loved his toy fox terrier named Molly, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, camping and bonfires. Alan was always there to help anyone that needed anything at anytime. He is survived by his soulmate Marina Jacobs of West Charleston; by his children: Ashley Jacobs of Irasburg, Abigail Jacobs of Island Pond, Jake Parenteau of West Charleston, Tanner Parenteau of Newport; his parents Janice Jacobs and Antonio Lontine of Newport; his nieces, Chelsealynn Blodgett, Kaitlyn Wright, Amber and Andrea Lontine; his nephews, David and Anthony Wright; brothers: Aaron Lontine and his friend Megan Kelly of Newport, Rocky Lontine and his wife Gail of Derby, Joe Lontine of Coventry; a sister Sara Jacobs Wright and her friend John Phillips of Barton; and by many close friends he considered to be his family and by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Gary Edward Pettit

, 54, of South Road, Bethlehem, N.H., left his earthly body to go to a better, happier place in the early morning hours of March 6, 2009. Gary was born on March 5, 1955, in Somers Point, N.J., to Juanita (Mullins) and the late John J. Pettit. Gary loved to hunt and fish with his son, Asa, and they spent much time together, even if it was just driving around hoping to spot a deer or some turkeys roaming about. He loved the outdoors, and autumn was his favorite season. He loved his kids and always wanted what was best for them, even though they may not have realized it at the time. He was very proud of their accomplishments, big or small, and bragged about them often. In years past, Gary built houses in Pennsylvania and was a talented carpenter. Gary moved to NH in 1993 to make a positive change in his life, and he did. For the last 12 years, he has been employed by Hitchiner Manufacturing in Littleton, until his illness prevented him from working in early December 2008. Gary is survived by his long time companion, Kathy Young of Bethlehem, N.H.; two sons, Christopher Eby of Baltimore, Md., and Asa Pettit of Bethlehem, N.H.; two daughters, Amanda Chesna and husband, John of Clarks Summit, Pa., and Amber Stebbins of Bethlehem, N.H.; his loving mother and step-father, Juanita and Ray Mell of Newville, Pa.; five brothers, John of N.J., Walter of Calif., Delbert and Steve Pettit and Corey Mell, all of Pa.; three step-sisters, Star Whiskman, Debbie Yhoe and Cindy Piper, all of Pa., three grandchildren, McKenna, Caitlin and David and one on the way. Also Gary leaves behind his three very best friends, Ron Wright of Loysville, Pa., Andy Douglass of Berlin, N.H., and Eric Moore of Dalton, N.H., many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Calling hours will be held at the Pillsbury Funeral Home located at 101 Union St. in Littleton, N.H., on March 10 from 2 to 4 p.m. followed immediately by a service at 4 p.m. with Pastor Ernie Wilkins officiating. Priscilla (Aldrich) Randell

of Needham, Mass., formerly of Provincetown died on Friday, March 6, 2009, at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Needham. Born In Boston, Priscilla grew up in Wellesley, Mass. She and her husband Douglas lived in Needham for many years, raising their family there. After her children were grown, Priscilla worked in the Workmens Compensation Department at Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in West Roxbury during the 1980s. In 1990 Mr. and Mrs. Randell moved to Provincetown. Douglas passed away suddenly in 1992. Priscilla remained in Provincetown where she volunteered at the Provincetown Public Library. She later moved to Truro for a few years and has been back in Needham since 2004. Priscilla was the beloved wife of the late J. Douglas Randell. Loving mother of Martha Randell Sullivan and her husband Peter of Westport, Conn., and Karen Randell and her husband Rich Rouelle of Danville, Vt., formerly of Burlington, Vt. Sister of William Aldrich of Needham. Dear grandmother of Kyle Sullivan. George Albert Daigneault

, 73, of Derby Line, passed away peacefully March 7, 2009, surrounded by his family after a brief illness. He was born July 20, 1935, in Colebrook, N.H., the son of John and Lena (Labonte) Daigneault. He worked for Tivoly in Derby Line for 33 years as an electrician, after retiring he spent the past 10 years working part-time for Green Mountain Electric. He spent an enormous amount of his time founding, organizing and running Border Minor Hockey. He was extremely civic minded, he involved himself in the International Water Company and helping around St. Edward's as much as he could. Nothing brought him more joy then spending time with his family and friends - whenever someone needed help, he was the first one there and the last one to leave. He will be fondly remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, close friend and tireless worker. He was pre-deceased by his father (1974), his mother (1979) and his sister Irene Kelsea (1975). He is survived by his loving wife Henriette (Poulin) whom he married in 1962; children, David of Jay, John and his partner Connie of Wolfeboro, N.H., and Marc and his wife Norma of Colchester; grandchildren, who held a special place in his heart and whom he loved dearly, Matthew and Michael of Milton and Alex and Austin of Colchester. Merle Florine Kelsey Grout

, 88, of Whitefield and Littleton, N.H., entered into eternal rest on Friday, March 6, 2009, after a long illness at the Morrison Nursing Home in Whitefield, N.H. Mrs. Grout was born Aug. 4, 1920, in Glastonbury, Conn. She graduated from Glastonbury High School in 1938 and Bay Path Institute of Springfield, Mass., in 1940. Merle met and married Kenneth M. Grout in 1943. Merle and husband, Ken, lived in Greenwood, Mass., where Ken established a successful manufacturing company, Kenics Corporation. That business was sold in 1973, and they retired to Littleton, N.H. The Grouts were well known in Littleton when Tender Corporation was incorporated in 1975 and yet another successful manufacturing business was born. Merle had resided at the Morrison for the last 11 years. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Littleton, a lifetime member of the Littleton Hospital Auxiliary, a member of the Littleton Garden Club, a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and gave countless hours as a hospital Volunteer at Littleton Regional Hospital. Merle played the piano and the organ. Her cheerful and friendly demeanor was one of her most endearing qualities. Her exceptional talent as a gardener combined with her generous spirit made a visit from Merle and Ken very special and most welcome. Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Ken; two sons, Edward Hale Grout of Littleton, N.H., Richard Martin Grout of North Conway, N.H.; a daughter, Sharon Grout Bush of Franconia, N.H.; three grandchildren, Michael Jason Bush of Missoula, Mont., David Martin Bush of Germantown, N.Y., Kylie Grout Phillips of Whitefield, N.H.; and a great-grandson, Ethan Phillips. A Friends and Family Gathering will be held at Ross Funeral Home, Whitefield Chapel on Wednesday, March 11, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. There will be an Eastern Star Service held at 6:30 p.m. A private family memorial service will be held later in the spring. , age 102, passed away Wednesday March 4, 2009 at her daughter's home in Dearborn Heights, Mich. She was born April 16, 1906 in Eustis, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of the late Thomas Charles Beattie and Mary Lucebe Elnora (Pilgrim) Beattie. Elnora was a 1925 graduate of Lyndon Institute. She was a resident of Jay and Richford, Vt. most of her life. Elnora married Chauncey L. Morse on December 25, 1926. She was the Town Clerk and Treasurer for the Town of Jay for more than 25 years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #44 and the Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America Sica Court # 38. She is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Ciufo of Dearborn Heights, Mich. and Carol Shipman and her husband Herbert of Bristol, Vt.; 18 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren, and 20 great, great, grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Catherine Beattie, and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Elnora was predeceased by her husband, Chauncey L. Morse, her sons Chauncey B. Morse and Charles A. Morse; her daughter Shirley Chapin, her granddaughter Ruth Ann Shipman, great granddaughter, Elizabeth Morse, three brothers Harold, Donald and Lloyd Beattie, and her sister Marguerite Folsom. There will be no funeral services or visiting hours, although there will be a graveside service at the Richford Center Cemetery later this spring at the family's convenience. Stan "Killer" Brinker

57, of Truro died unexpectedly at his home on Monday March 2, 2009. Born in Jacksonville, Fla., he was the son of Love (Snow) Brinker of Colorado and the late Carroll Brinker. Mr. Brinker moved to Truro in 1999 from Bath, N.H. While living in Bath, he was the chief of the volunteer fire department from 1985 to 1995. He was also the former owner of Twin Rivers Recycling Co. of Bath. For the past 10 years he has enjoyed his life in Truro. He was an avid boater who enjoyed spending time with his wife clamming and oystering. He also spent much of his time tending to his garden. He was a self employed property manager in Truro. In 2000 he met Tweetie Donahue. They were married last August at a beautiful ceremony on the beach at Corn Hill in Truro. Besides his wife and mother he is survived by his son Zachary Leigh Brinker of Bath; his stepson Brian Donahue of Truro; his two sisters, Florence Powell of Stephenson, Ore., and Susan Brinker of Conway, N.H.; and his brother, Elton Brinker of Wells River. He was the father of the late Nicholas Brinker and former husband of Abigail Kennedy of Bath. He is also survived by four nieces and one nephew. A memorial service will take place this weekend at the Bath Village School in Bath and during the weekend of June 20, 2009, a memorial will take place in Truro to coincide with his birthday. , 86, of 1529 Fairground Road, Bradford, died March 10, 2009, at the VA Medical Center in White River Junction. Howard was born in West Fairlee on Sept. 23, 1922, a son to Elmer and Marion (Southworth) Hatch. He was raised in West Fairlee attending a one room school house, later attending and graduating from the Bradford Academy. Howard enlisted into the United States Navy in 1943. Howard was a Gunners Mate First Class; he served as Search and Rescue in the South Pacific. Upon returning home from the service he worked at the Bradford Slaughter House and than purchased his parents farm which he farmed. He was a sugarmaker in Vermont where he was also a member of the Vermont Sugarmakers Association for numerous years. Howard was an avid hunter and trapper. He was a director for the Vermont Trappers Association for many years. He was a member of the Coon and Cat Club and the Vermont Houndsman Association. He was predeceased by a son Michael Howard Hatch and a brother Russell Elmer Hatch. He is survived by his wife Shirley (Taylor) Hatch of 55 years; a son Peter Hatch of Bradford; a daughter Pamela Hartley; son-in-law Ernie Hartley of Piermont, N.H.; three grandsons, Ryan and Jeremy Hatch both of Bradford, and Dana Hartley of Piermont; and a sister Jeanne True of St. Johnsbury. , 72, of Littleton, N.H., passed away peacefully at home with family on March 11, 2009, after a long illness. Born in Shiloh, Tenn., to Pete and Evie Lee Baggett on Feb. 23, 1937, she and her husband Leo lived in Lisbon and Landaff for many years until moving to Littleton in 2004. She retired after being employed at New England Electric Wire Corporation for many years. She enjoyed many years of fishing, gardening, knitting, quilting and playing with her grandchildren. Her family was the highlight and pride of her life. Maurene was predeceased by her parents and her son Jeffery. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Leo Longchamps; children Patricia Hill, Sandra Rossi and Michael Longchamps of Littleton, and Wanda Griggs of Edgewater, Fla.; siblings Francis Johnson, Erma Neebles, Hatie Ellis, James Baggett, Charles Baggett, and Larry Baggett of Clarksville, Tenn., and Edna Darden of Middleburg, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Brian Hill of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Christopher Hill, Amanda Longchamps, and Giuliano, Nathaly and Luca Rossi of Littleton, Jenny McConnell of Prattsburgh, N.Y., and Jessie Griggs of Edgewater, Fla.; five great-grandchildren, Katelynn, Brady, and Andrew Hill of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Damien and Blake McConnell of Prattsburgh, N.Y. , 83, of St. Johnsbury, passed away peacefully at NVRH Thursday morning, March 12, 2009, after a brief illness. She was born Feb. 28, 1926, in Barton, one of eight children born to Merton and Myrtle Ash. She married Reginald Powers Nov. 16, 1944. Their firstborn child Almeda died at birth. The Powers had resided in the Fairbanks village section of St. Johnsbury since 1955. Barbara was a daycare provider for over 50 years. Less than two weeks ago, on her 83rd birthday, she received over 300 cards, many of them from her previous daycare children. For nearly 50 years, Barbara was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, was a Sunday school teacher, and a member of the United Methodist Women. She also looked forward to the monthly meetings with the TLC club. She is survived by five children, Donna and Franklin Hovey of Danville, Terry and Ann Powers of Wynnewood, Pa., and Joes Pond, Sandra and Mark Grenier of St. Johnsbury, Susan and Michael Bedard of Lebanon, Pa., Judy and David Lavely of Danville; 13 grandchildren, Jennifer, Christopher, Franklin, Matthew, Clayton, Asheley, Allison, Jayme, Caryn, Rebecca, Amanda, Jacob and Justin; 11 great-grandchildren, (soon to be 12!); also Connie Lumbra whom she considered a daughter; three sisters Althea Gillis of Colchester, Beverly Chaffee of Montpelier, Norma Major and husband Paul of Newport; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister Helen Farrow; and by three brothers, Merton "Butch," Earl "Buster," and Harold. Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 15, at 2 p.m., at the Grace United Methodist Church. The pastor, the Rev. John Marshall, will officiate. Committal services will be held in May at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
