of St. Johnsbury, Vermont's personal furrier, passed away quietly Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, surrounded by his family. He was 88. He was born in Lowell, Mass., on April 11, 1921, the son of Harry and Sarah (Shertock) Zeller. He was predeceased by his first wife Esther (Cohen) Zeller. Alfred was indeed known as "Vermont's personal furrier." He took great pride in bringing his fur business, with his wife Lillian, to the people by setting up hotel shows, particularly in White River Jct., Montpelier, and Burlington. Many may remember their TV ads on WCAX. He maintained his fur business in the Palmer Building on Eastern Avenue in St. Johnsbury as well as a close relationship with the Palmer family over the years. He sold his fur business in the fall of 1985. Alfred was an active man all his life, which made the last two years difficult in that he could no longer golf at St. Johnsbury Country Club, sail his sailboat on Joes Pond, swim in his backyard swimming pool, or ski at Burke Mt. (although ski he did on his 80th birthday!). Alfred was instrumental in the relocation, building, and operation of the Beth El Synagogue. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years Lillian; son David Zeller and his wife Virginia of Swampscott, Mass.; daughter Susan Zeller-Kent and husband Tom Kent of Woburn, Mass.; step-daughter, whom he loved as his own, Donna Oplinger and husband Thomas of Southampton, Long Island, N.Y.; two granddaughters Kayla and Merina Zeller; two brothers: Nathan Zeller of Peabody, Mass., Philip Zeller and wife Jeanne of Lowell, Mass.; sister Esther Alexander of Atlanta, Ga.; and many nieces and nephews. A public memorial service will be held at Beth El Synagogue Thursday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m. Beth El Synagogue is located at 1097 Hospital Drive (on the left going up Hospital Hill). , 57, of Cherry Street, Whitefield, N.H., died suddenly Sunday morning Oct. 4, 2009, at his home. Mr. Allen was born in Hanover, N.H., on June 14, 1952, the son of John and Evelyn (Howe) Allen. Alan was a graduate of Lamoille High School. For many years he resided in Stratham, N.H., and worked for Data General in Portsmouth. He was the Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge #1831 of Littleton, N.H. He was also a member of the Eagles. Alan enjoyed hanging out with friends and family, playing darts and fishing. Surviving family members include his foster mother, since he was 11 years old, Dorothy Hutchins of Whitefield; brothers and sisters, Fred Allen of Camp Verde, Ariz., Virginia Durphy of Windsor, Vt., Joanne Nealie of Canaan, N.H., Shelby Colbourn of South Strafford, Vt., Adrian (Peanut) Allen of Enosburg Falls, and Jeannine Welsh Russell of Massachusetts. He was predeceased by his foster father Archie Hutchins; a sister Patricia Allen of Bridgewater and a brother John Allen of Quechee. A visiting hour will be held Saturday afternoon, Oct. 10, from noon to 1 p.m. at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A funeral service will be held immediately afterward at 1 p.m. Rev. Richard Phillips of Littleton, will officiate. An Elks service will be held at the funeral home following the funeral service. Burial will be held at a later date in the Hartford Cemetery, Hartford, Vt. , 89, formerly of Main Street in St. Johnsbury passed away in Little Rock, Ark. where she had been residing since 2004. She was born in St. Johnsbury on Aug. 9, 1920 and was the daughter of Albert A. and Lillian (Emmons) LaChance. Her husband Eddie predeceased her in 1983; they were married Nov. 23, 1942. Leona graduated from Mt. Joseph's Academy in 1938, the first class graduated from the school. She worked 17 years at St. Johnsbury Trucking and later worked part-time at Gauthier's Pharmacy. She was active in the NVRH Chaplaincy Program, R.S.V.P. (Retired Sr. Volunteer Program). A parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church, Leona administered the Lady of Ste. Anne fund for years. She is survived by two sons, Richard Berube and wife Debbie of Virginia Beach Va., and Michael Berube and wife Maryann of Little Rock, Ark.; three grandchildren, Michael of Atlanta, Ga., Brian of Virginia Beach, Va. and Marilee Fairman of Little Rock; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles LaChance of Rutland; and many nieces and nephews. Leona was predeceased by her brothers, Donald and Paul LaChance; and her sister Bernadette DeForge. Funeral services will be held at the Sayles Funeral Home this Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at 11 a.m. Friends and family will gather at the funeral home from 10 a.m. to the start of the service. , a lifelong resident of Lyndonville passed away surrounded by family Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009 at the Pines Health & Rehab. Center. Born May 11, 1921, in Greensboro to Delmar & Dora (Davis) Boardman. She married Charles S. Powers on Dec. 19, 1941 in Lyndonville. She grew up in the Lyndonville area graduating from Lyndon Institute Class of 1939. She then attended and graduated from Thompson School of Practical Nursing in Brattleboro. She worked as an LPN at Pine Knowl, the Darling Inn, and St. Johnsbury Convalescent Center, as well as some Private Duty Nursing. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, doing family history work, reading, traveling, and collecting antiques. Phyllis is survived by two daughters and their spouses, Sheila (Aldoph) Charron of St. Johnsbury, and Brenda (John) Voyer of Waterbury; a sister, Freida Powell of Kissemmie, Fla.; eight grandchildren; several great- and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband on July 7, 1971; a daughter, Charlene; a granddaughter, Cheryl Hutchin; two brothers and their spouses, Gerald and Helen, Gordon and Shirley; brother-in-law, Carlos Powell; and a son-in-law, J. Robert Therriault. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at St. Peters Episcopal Church in Lyndonville Saturday, Oct. 10, 1 p.m. with interment in the Lyndon Center Cemetery. , 7 weeks, of Littleton, N.H., died on Oct. 5, 2009, at Littleton Regional Hospital. She was born the daughter of Wallace Schwartz, Jr. and Sarah Jane Esty, Aug. 13, 2009. She is survived by her parents, Sarah Jane Esty and Wallace Bruce Davis Schwartz, Jr. and grandparents, Wallace Sr. and Laurie Schwartz and Cheryl Murphy, all of Littleton and a host extended family. She is predeceased by her grandfather, William Fuller. The family will have a Memorial Service at Light of Christ Fellowship Advent Christian Church at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009, with Pastor Randy DeTrude officiating. A reception will be held following the service at the Church Fellowship Hall. "This precious gift from God was only in our lives for seven weeks but will live in our hearts forever." , age 94, a Lyndonville resident, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, at the Pines Health & Rehab. Center. He was born July 9, 1915, in Dracut, Mass., to Walter E. and Helen F. (Short) Boynton. He graduated from Dracut High School, class of 1932. Walter served in the U.S. Coast Guard between 1935 and 1938. He worked for H.P. Hood from 1941 until his retirement in 1975. In the summer of 1994, Walter moved to Lyndonville. He was a 50 year member of the Ancient Brothers Lodge #178 F & A M in Auburn and Lewiston, Maine. Walter is survived by two children, Ret. Air Force Colonel Gerald Boynton and wife Sharon of O'Fallen, Ill., and Larry Boynton of Lyndonville; two grandchildren, Jean Mathers and husband Air Force Colonel Russell Mathers of Osan Air Base, Korea, and Brenda Boynton and fiancee Chris of Neptune, N.J.; a great-granddaughter Shannon Mathers; two special friends, Edith Rivers, and Fran Silva both of Lyndonville. He was predeceased by his wife, Marie I. Boynton; and a son, David A. Boynton. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

, 49, of Ryegate, passed away Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, after an extended illness. She was born in St. Johnsbury, June 28, 1960, the daughter of Gerald H. Gadapee and the late Shirley A. Rutledge who died June 1, 1998. Liesa graduated from Blue Mountain Union School in Wells River, class of 1978. She was formerly a caregiver at Atkinson Home in Newbury. She had previously worked at the Cottage Hospital in Woodsville and Jiffy Mart in Wells River. She will be warmly remembered by those whom she had cared for and for the tender loving care she provided. She was predeceased by her mother and a brother, Gary H. Gadapee who died Oct. 8, 1985. Survivors include her father, Gerald Gadapee and step-mother Janice of Ryegate; a daughter, Kimberly Butson and husband Shane of North Haverhill, N.H.; a son, Shane Crawford of Woodsville, N.H.; three grandchildren, Kera, Shania and Sebastian Butson of North Haverhill, N.H.; a sister, Linda Bunnell and husband Randy of Monroe, N.H.; a brother, Edward Gadapee and friend Michele of Newbury; her husband and dear friend, Raymond Crawford of Woodsville, N.H.; best friend, Marie Downer of Woodsville, N.H.; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. , 92, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, at her son's home with her family by her side. She was born in Bethlehem, N.H., to Myron and Elva (Schnyder) Burt. For most of her life she made her home on Farr Hill Road in Littleton in the Old Pattenville School House, which was moved from Pattenville to it's current location months before the construction of Moore Dam. Gladys worked at Connor's Shoes and Henchel's Laundry. She enjoyed being a homemaker, raising her children, making crafts, gardening, canning and was an avid NASCAR fan (go Little E). Her husband Milton Bourassa predeceased her in 1978. Gladys is survived by her two sons, Milton Bourassa of Lady Lake Fla., and Bud Bourassa of Lincoln, N.H.; one daughter Marilyn Putney of Littleton, N.H.; a brother William Carpenter of Lyman, N.H.; as well as seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be at Ross Funeral Home, Littleton Chapel, on Monday, Oct. 12, from 6-8 p.m.; a funeral service will be at Ross Funeral Home on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Lyn Winter officiating. A committal service at Glenwood Cemetery will follow.

, 87, formerly of Danville, passed away peacefully in Cromwell, Conn., Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009. She was born Nov 2, 1921, daughter of Neal and Emma (Stocker) Sargeant. She owned /operated Martha & Ray's Snack Bar for many years, retiring to Florida with her husband. She was a member of the Danville Pythian Sisters and the Vermont Homemakers Extension. She will always be remembered for her onion rings and clams, and all the beautiful handiwork that she did. She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years Raymond Sevigny, sisters Patricia Sargeant and Nila Thompson, and brother Donald Sargeant. She is survived by her children, Pauline and Roland Marcotte of Weare, N.H., Gordon and Deb Sevigny of Middleburg, Fla., Carleen and Nathaniel Thomas of Cromwell, Conn., Richard and Kathy Sevigny of Danville, and William and Edith Sevigny of Elbridge, N.Y.; her sister Marilyn Graham of Texarkana, Ark.; brothers Neal Sargeant Jr. of Marshfield, and Theodore and Joan Sargeant of Huntington; 21 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. , 68, of Springfield, Mass., passed away in the peaceful surroundings of her own home after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Barnet, Vt., on Dec. 24, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Max and Ena (Spencer) Corrow. Gay was raised in West Burke, Vt., and has lived in Springfield, Mass., since 1958. A beautician, she had owned the Cut & Curl Beauty Salon at Glenwood Circle in Springfield, Mass., for 30 years before she sold the business in 2007. An active member of the Springfield and Massachusetts Cosmetology Associations, she volunteered her time to the Look Good/Feel Better Cancer Support Group at Mercy and Baystate Medical Centers for 20 years, receiving the Sunrise Award for outstanding service in 2003 and 2006, and was also active in the USO efforts through Westover Air Base in Chicopee, Mass. Gay is survived by her husband of 48 years, Jim Fleury; two brothers, Glenden Corrow of St. Johnsbury, Vt., and Darryel Corrow of East Burke, Vt.; a sister, Maureen Corrow of Springfield, Mass.; several nieces and nephews among them James Miner and his wife Kimberly of Agawam, Mass., and Dale Miner and his wife Kathy of Easthampton, Mass.; and her pets, Clancy and Dixie. Besides her parents, Gay was also predeceased by a brother, Arthur Corrow who died in 1992, and leaves behind his wife Lydia and her family. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 17, at 1 p.m. in the West Burke Methodist Church with Rev. Sue Mackay officiating. Burial will be in the the Hillside Cemetery in Burke Hollow, Vt. , 68, of Pinewood Avenue, Bethlehem, N.H., died Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, after a courageous battle with cancer. Dave's family was by his side. He was born in Sioux Falls, S.D., on Dec. 17, 1940, the son of Les and Florence (Lauer) Harding. Dave attended local schools and was a graduate of General Beadle State Teacher's College, now known as Dakota State University, with a Bachelor of Science in Education. Dave served in the U.S. Navy 1964-1968 as a Corpsman. He was in Vietnam from October 1965 to November 1966. He lived in South Dakota and Rhode Island prior to moving to the North Country in 1973. He was the director of ski patrol at Bretton Woods Ski Area for 11 winters and was an electrician at the Mt. Washington Hotel retiring in 2004. He enjoyed skiing, riding his motorcycle, golfing, fishing from his boat, and rollerblading. He loved his family and friends dearly and will be missed by all who knew him. He was pre-deceased by his parents and his first wife Virginia (Hughes) Harding, mother of Christine Brooks. He is survived by his loving wife Melanie (Miller) Harding, of Bethlehem; two daughters Christine Brooks, Lincoln, N.H., and Kate Price and husband Chris, Bethlehem; a granddaughter Amy Brooks, and one grandchild, Baby Price due in November; two brothers Steven Harding and wife Gerri, and John Harding, Sioux Falls, S.D.; three sisters Dorothy Harding, Moab, Utah, Linda Harding and Elaine Combs, Sioux Falls, S.D., his father-in-law and mother-in-law Wayne and Jean Miller, Littleton; and brother-in-law Ron Miller, Concord, Vt., and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John W. and Laura Mae Simons, and a brother, John W. Simons, Jr., all of St. Johnsbury. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Richard of Wichita; son, Wendell Miller and wife Dana; daughter, Laurie Theis and husband Roger; grandchildren, Annie Van Bebber, Sarah Miller, and Laurie Theis, all of Bel Aire, Kan.; niece Kim Lemieux and husband Mike; nephews John W. Simons, III and wife Eileen Wolfe, David Simons and wife Renee, and Bill Simons, all of the St. Johnsbury area. , 91, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2009, at Lafayette Center in Franconia, N.H. Richard was born in Littleton, N.H., the oldest of identical twins to Arthur Horace and Lillian (Miller) Little. Richard was enlisted in the Army during WWII, serving in the European Theater. Richard was self-employed, selling insulation, combination doors and windows. At fair time, Richard and his wife, Irene, would set up booths to demonstrate their products. He also sold real estate and was a landlord. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and playing on a softball team. He also enjoyed going for long walks with his wife. He volunteered at Littleton Regional Hospital in the kitchen. He was predeceased by his brother Reginald Little. Richard is survived by his loving wife, Irene (Mooney) Little of Lafayette Center in Franconia, his son Donald Little and his younger identical twin brother Raymond Little, as well as nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces and great-great nephews and nieces. A graveside service will be held at Glenwood Cemetery in Littleton on Thursday, October 15 at 2 p.m. with Fr. Jerry Pincince officiating.

, 67, of Twin Mountain, N.H., died on Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Mass. Mr. Kraabel was born in 1941 in Canby, Minn., to Rev. Maynard and Helen (Henryson) Kraabel. He married Susan Kocher from Chicago, Ill., in 1971. He graduated from Twin Rivers High School in Bode, Iowa, and Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. He spent six years in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. Mr. Kraabel worked for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company for 29 years in Chicago and Boston. Mr. Kraabel is survived by his wife Susan, twin brother Stephen (Carmel, Ind.), sisters Kathryn Knudson (Bella Vista, Ark.), Mary Rolland (Roland, Iowa), Barbara Kraabel (Coralville, Iowa) and Gracia Blanchard (Coralville, Iowa). Services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Twin Mountain, with Mr. Kraabel's nephew, Pastor Michael Knudson from First Lutheran Church in Blair, Neb., officiating.

formally of Littleton, N.H., died on Oct. 7, 2009, at Lafayette Genesis in Franconia, N.H. He was born in Littleton, N.H., on Feb. 8, 1928, son of Roland and Irene (Connors). On Jan. 10, 1948, he married Eleanor Shirley Smith who predeceased him on June 19, 2009. Robert was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Littleton, where he served on many committees and was custodian for many years. Robert worked for the Highway Department for the State of New Hampshire for 30 years until his retirement; prior to that he was a mechanic at Downing's Garage in Littleton. Survivors include one son, Clifton R. and wife Linda Chase of Orange, Mass.; one daughter, Alice M. and Matt Cross of Fuguay-Varina, N.C.; six grandchildren Steven Chase, Clifton Barney, Charles Floyd Jr., Katrina Betts, Christine Blodgett, and Austin Cross; eight great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He also leaves his best friends and caregivers, Nancy and Charlie Collins of Littleton. In addition to his wife, Bob was predeceased by his parents; brothers: Arthur, Leonard, Edward, Everett (Skip), and Douglas Chase; sisters: Rebecca Chase and Sylvia Rayburn; and grand-daughter Abbey Beth Cross. 73, of Littleton, N.H., died on October 11, 2009 at his home. He was born the son of Everett J., Sr. and Florence Margaret (Allen) Shaw in Framingham, Mass., May 2, 1936. He is a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during the Korean War. He was very active with the American Legion, CVA-43 Coral Sea Association and was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 816 as well as a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann (Warren) Shaw, of Littleton; sons, Everett J. Shaw III of Littleton, Paul C. Shaw of Millis, Mass. and daughters, Diane M. Pifari and Carol A. Hasselmann, both of Littleton; brothers, Walter H. of California, Donald T. of Franklin, Mass. and Allen L. of New Jersey; brothers-in-law, Malcolm A. Warren of Hickory, N.C .and Charles W. Warren of Whitensville, Mass.; and 18 grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. , 80, of Meredith, N.H., died on Oct. 11, 2009, at Goldenview Health Care Center, Meredith. He was born the son of George and Gertrude (Sinclair) Maguire in Brookline, Mass., Sept. 9, 1929. He grew up in the Boston area where he attended many Red Sox games as a young teenager. He then moved to Rochester, N.H., and attended Spaulding High School while working on his uncle's farm, which he loved. After graduation, he moved to Bethlehem, N.H., where he spent many years before moving to Meredith. Rusty loved to build and was a skilled carpenter. He built many chalets in the North Country and many condos in the Lakes Region. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Jane (MacDonald) Maguire; three daughters, Kathleen Maguire of Edgewater, Fla., Debra Charland and husband Bruce of Bethlehem, N.H., and Mary Beth Brown and Husband Patrick of Tacoma, Wash.; two sons, Patrick Maguire and wife Lisa of Hampton, Va., and Scott Maguire and wife Sandra of Newbury, Mass.; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by three brothers, Robert and Richard Maguire and John Lutz and a son Michael Collins.
