, 84, of Hill Street, Lyndonville, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family and friends, Jan. 22, 2009, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury. Joyce was born in Belvidere Center on Feb. 24, 1924, the only daughter of Grover and Bertha (Fletcher) Potter. In early 1925 she moved with her family to Montpelier. Joyce graduated Montpelier High School in 1942. Prior to graduation she was employed in the operating department of Green Mountain Power Corporation; retiring after 25 years of service. On May 27, 1967, she married Jack Prior Lynch of Lyndonville. They enjoyed many happy years together, traveling, camping and dancing. In February 1969 Joyce started employment at Lyndon State College with the psychology department as a departmental secretary. She retired on May 1, 1989. Joyce was a life member of Rob Morris #24 Order of the Eastern Star and a life member of the VFW #792 Auxiliary in Montpelier. She was a member of Trinity Methodist Church in Montpelier and later a member of the First Congregational Church in Lyndonville. Joyce enjoyed playing the piano and especially enjoyed knitting children's Irish Knit Sweaters. Joyce is survived by a beloved step-daughter, Sherry Lynch Bowers of Birmingham, Ala; three grandchildren, Wendy Stevens, Jim Bowers (Lisa) and Sherry Lynn Scott (BJ); five great-grandchildren, Jack Bowers, John Stevens, Barbara Stevens, Alexis Scott and Skyler Scott; a special nephew and his wife, Calvin and Nancy Potter of Waterbury; a great niece, Sara Richards of Kinderhook, N.Y.; great-nephew, Eric Potter of South Duxsbury; special friends Dick, Nancy and Kara Lawrence and Dayton and Landry of Lyndonville; and also by special friend Herbie Reed. She was predeceased by her husband Jack Lynch in 1982, her parents and two brothers, Brandon Potter and Woodrow Potter. A memorial service in Joyce's honor will be held at the Lyndonville First Congregational Church on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009, at 1 p.m., with Rev. Jennifer Geary officiating. , 81, of St. Johnsbury, passed away peacefully surrounded by his children, at Concord Hospice House in Concord, N.H., on Jan. 24, 2009. Born May 30, 1927, in Cabot, Vt., the son of Albert and Agnes (Pike) Carlton, he grew up in New Hampshire, Missouri, Texas and Vermont and served in the United States Army from 1945 through 1948. After graduating from Burlington Business College, he worked in Central America for the United Fruit Company and later in St. Johnsbury for the Ralston Purina Company, the French and Bean Company and the United States Post Office. Jim was predeceased in September 2005 by his wife, Gloria Toussaint Carlton. Jim enjoyed reading and, when younger, fishing and hunting. Survivors include his children: Sally Kelley, her husband Michael and their children Colleen and Ryan of Wilder, Vt.; Eric Carlton and his wife Kathy of Hillsborough, N.H., and Kathy's children Shelly, Jennifer, Becky and Katie and their families; Melissa Plasencia, her husband Douglas and their son Aaron of Wolfeboro, N.H., and Doug's children Megan, Zachary and Luke; a sister, Jane Greaves of Walden; a sister-in-law, Jacqueline Isabelle of Newport and nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church in St. Johnsbury. , 29, of Manchester, N.H., passed away suddenly on Jan. 19, 2009. Before moving to Manchester, N.H., six years ago he lived in St. Johnsbury, Vt. He was born in Carlisle, Pa., on Oct. 19, 1979, to Robert Hampton and wife Louanne (stepmother) of Tolland, Conn., and Deborah (Ford) Baird and husband John Baird (stepfather) of Lyndonville, Vt. Matthew graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1997 and attended Bentley College of Boston and Norwich University of Northfield, Vt. He was employed as a financial advisor for Northwestern Mutual of Manchester, winning numerous awards for his hard work and dedication to a career he truly loved. In his life, Matthew was a thrill seeker. His favorite hobbies were to play golf, ice hockey and working on, and driving his blue Tacoma. He also enjoyed motorcycling, snowmobiling, four wheeling and going to NASCAR races to root for his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr. #88. Matthew's favorite hockey team is the Boston Bruins and baseball team, the Atlanta Braves. One of his favorite memories was going to Charlotte, N.C., to the NASCAR race with his best friend James Lightholder. His happiest moments were when he was with his family and friends who meant everything to him. He was predeceased by his paternal grandmother Georgianna Hampton of Tolland, Conn., in November 1998. Surviving family members are Matthew's girlfriend Angela Snow, sister Jennifer Klember and her husband Roy Klember, and nephew Teagan Roy Klember of Manchester, N.H., and niece Isabelle Jane Klember of Vernon, Conn. Maternal grandparents Richard and Judith Ford of Hebron, Conn. Paternal grandfather Herbert Hampton of Tolland, Conn. Several aunts, uncles, cousins, two stepbrothers, Jason Carroll and Richard Edwards and one stepsister, Estelle Percoski, and several nephews and nieces. A celebration of Matthew's life will be held Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, from 5 to 6 p.m., with a service to follow at 6 p.m., at the Comfort Inn, St. Johnsbury, VT 05819. , 88, of Whitefield, N.H., died suddenly at home Saturday evening Jan. 24, 2009. Mr. Kopp was born in Mays Landing, N.J., on April 24, 1920, the son of John and Mary (Kaufmann) Kopp. Al was raised in Brooklyn and Queens, N.Y. He attended St. Francis Prep School and St. Francis College, Brooklyn. During WWII he served with the US Army Air Corps in the China Burma India Theater. On July 1, 1945, he married Joan Malone and they moved to Whitefield that same year. For a year they owned and operated the Spruces Hotel and later purchased a farm house on Hall Road, providing continued accommodations to guests. In 1959 Al established North Country Motor Sales that later became North Country Ford in Lancaster. Al was Communicant of St. Matthew's Church in Whitefield. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, and the Central New Hampshire Model T Club. Since 1962 he has served as a trustee of the former Morrison Hospital and later Morrison Nursing Home. Family members include his wife of 63 years Joan Kopp of Whitefield; a son Kevin Kopp and his wife Mary of Lancaster; two daughters, Kathleen Kopp of Whitefield, Sally Anne Maroon and her husband Bob of Booth Bay Harbor, Maine and Whitefield; five grandchildren, Allison Marro, Ethan Marro, Casey Maroon, Michael Kopp, Keith Kopp; and five great-grandchildren. At Al's request there are no visiting hours. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Thursday, Jan. 29, at 10 a.m. at St. Matthew's Church, Whitefield. Reverend Raymond Ball pastor will officiate. Committal services with military honors will be held in the spring at St. Matthews Cemetery in Whitefield. , 78, of Bog Road, North Stratford, N.H., died suddenly at his home on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009. Born in Dedham, Mass., a son of Thomas Henry and Antonya "Wanda" (Lewandowski) White; he has been a resident of North Stratford since 1973, coming from Washington, D.C., where he lived for many years. He was a Veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict. While living in Washington he worked for the C.I. A. until retiring in 1973 when he moved to North Stratford. He was Police Chief in North Stratford for 20 years before retiring in the mid 1990s. He also served for many years as a Coos County Deputy Sheriff. John enjoyed spending time at Cape Cod and Virginia Beach with family and friends. He enjoyed riding his four-wheeler and mowing the lawn. John also enjoyed talking with people and waving to friends and neighbors as they drove by the house. He is survived by his wife Helen M. White of North Stratford; daughter Sheila White and fiance Steve Wetz of Huntington, Md.; sister Agnes Petrucci of Hanover, Mass; Aunt Marie Lewandowski of Sloatsburg, N.Y.; former mother-in-law Virginia "Rosie" Hurlbert of North Stratford, N.H.; mother-in-law Mary K. Gould of Wheelock, Vt.; sisters-in-law Sharon (Francis) White of North Stratford, N.H.; Alice Simpson of Wheelock, Vt.; Mary Della Camera and husband Frank of N. , 80, of East Haven, passed away at home Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009, after a period of failing health. He was born in Brownington, Vt., on Sept. 17, 1928, one of eight children born to Walter and Mable (Bennett) Young. He was predeceased by his wife Paula Jane Georgette (Ruggles) Young on July 24, 2000, by a grandson Gabriel Young, by a sister Pauline Godbout, and two brothers: Dale and Arthur Young. Maurice was proud to have served in the Army during the Korean conflict. He was stationed in Panama and served as a chauffeur there for several high-ranking military officers; he enjoyed sharing a war story or two over the years with his family. He had a passion for the outdoors: snowmobiling, four-wheeling, fishing and hunting. Maurice worked at Fairbanks and was later employed as an auto body repair man at Raymond B. Hoar Motors/Gagnon Motors. He never really retired and remained active with his own auto body shop, logging and puttering. He is survived by his five children: Douglas Young and Debbie, John Young, Bruce Young and wife Barbara, Laurie LaJeunesse, and Rodney Young all of East Haven; his grandchildren Chris, Tina, Lillian and Lisa; Amanda; Daniel; Andrew and Jasmine; four great-grandchildren; four sisters: Pearl Malanson of Lunenburg, Phyllis Higgins of Laconia, N.H., Stella Merrow and husband Richard of Littleton, N.H., Vera Andrews and husband Bill of Centre Harbor, N.H.; nieces and nephews; and all of the Ruggles family. Visiting hours will be held at the Guibord Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. Visiting hours will close with a prayer service led by Pastor Rick Menard. He will then be cremated with burial in the spring at the East Haven Cemetery. She attended local schools and worked hard her whole life as a waitress and homemaker. She recently moved to Littleton, N.H., from Colchester to live with her son and his family. Katherine leaves behind her son Robert and wife Joyce Raymond of Littleton; grandchildren Lance Raymond of Littleton, Robert and Kurt Raymond of Connecticut; great-grandchildren Rachelle Raymond and Zachary Mlynanski; four sisters, Honey, Helen, Leona and Ludja; and many friends in Colchester; and new friends Helen Sargent and her "gang of musicians." In addition to her parents Katherine is pre-deceased by two grandchildren, Sarah Raymond and Stephen Raymond; and her sisters and brother, Stella , Benadykta, and Steven who died in WWII.

He was born in Montpelier on Dec. 7, 1954, the son of Nelson and Tylea (Poulin) Murray. David graduated from Montpelier High School in 1972. After he and Joanne Fernandez of Montpelier were married Dec. 27, 1975, he graduated from Norwich University with the class of 1976. He is survived by his wife Joanne; five children, Nathan of Boston, Mass., Tylea of Paris; Chelsea, Jesse, and Jamie all still live at home; brother Terry Murray of Middlesex; sister Gloria Duprey of Middlesex; Nelson Murray Jr. and wife Janet of Jeffersonville. , age 86, passed away Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009, at he Pines Health & Rehab. Center. Born May 24, 1922, in Albany, Vt., to Harold C. and Della LaCoss Ingalls. Ruby grew up in the Albany and Sheffield areas, she attended Lyndon Institute and graduated with the class of 1940. During her high school years she boarded at the Darling Mansion on Darling Hill, she also rode her horse Silver as the Grand Marshall of the Caledonia Parade during one of those years. Ruby married H. Edward O'Conner in 1957, he predeceased he in 1985. Ruby is survived by her sister, Joan Smith and husband Duane of Wheelock; four brothers, Wallace Ingalls and wife Jackie, Max Ingalls and wife Ruth both of Sutton, Gayle Ingalls and wife Peggy of Germany, Gene Ingalls and wife Anita of Texas; a special niece Judy of Lyndonville; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, and a brother Freeman Ingalls. There will be no calling hours and a private family service will be held at a later date.
Phebe (Quimby) Goodwin

, 95, longtime Postmaster of the East St. Johnsbury Post Office, passed away Sunday morning, Jan 25, 2009, in Barnet at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Leigh Larocque. She had resided there for the past nine years. She was born on the family farm in Kirby on March 9, 1913. She attended Kirby graded school and one year at Montpelier Seminary. She left Montpelier during the 1927 flood to return to the farm in Kirby for the birth of her youngest sister Lorraine. Soon after the birth, her mother died of pneumonia. Phebe left school to help raise the new baby. She married George Goodwin in 1931; they had three daughters Gloria, Beverly and Sylvia, and one son Ernest known as "Bill." The Goodwins raised their family in the home that George built in East St. Johnsbury. They bought the local grocery store in the late 1940s and Phebe was later appointed Postmaster. After George passed away in 1967, Phebe continued to run the store and post office. When she retired from the post office after 24 years, her daughter Gloria Utley was appointed Postmaster; she and husband Glen continued to operate the store and post office for the next twenty years. Phebe resided with Gloria and Glen until Bill's wife Joyce was diagnosed with cancer. Phebe went to North Haven, Conn., to care for her; Joyce passed away in 1994. Phebe lived with her son for the next six years helping him raise his four adopted children and a grandchild. She returned to Vermont to live with her families here when her health began to fail. She survived three bouts with cancer, hernia and gall bladder surgery, had both hips replaced, and was legally blind from macular degeneration. She was predeceased by her son-in-law Glen in April 2003; and daughter Gloria in Oct. of 2003; brothers Murray, Wendall, Lynwood, George; sisters Ethelyn, Lorna, Eula, and Kay; and by her daughter Sylvia who died tragically as a freshman at St. Johnsbury Academy. Phebe is survived by daughter Beverly and her husband Leigh and their 31 descendents; son Bill and his 19 descendents, and his daughter Gloria's 13 descendents. Other survivors include her brother Wendall's two daughters, Marilyn and Janice Quimby, who lived with Phebe's family after their father's early death; her two sisters, Hope Freshette of Kirby, Lorraine Colby and husband Maurice of East St. Johnsbury; and a bundle of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Sayles Funeral Home Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. Visiting hours will conclude with a prayer led by the Rev. Ann Hockridge, pastor of the Third Congregational Church in East village. She will be buried at the Grove Cemetery in East St. Johnsbury Friday, May 15, at 3 p.m. Memorial services, led by The Rev. Ann Hockridge, will follow at 4 p.m. at the Third Congregational Church in East St. Johnsbury. , 85, formerly of Woodsville, N.H., died on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2009, at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster, N.H. He was born in Berlin, N.H., Sept. 10, 1923, the son of Charles Roderick and Mary Beatrice (Enman) Ross. He graduated from Berlin High School, Class of 1941. Bob enlisted in the Army/Air Corps in 1943 and received his honorable discharge in 1946. He worked for 32 years as a salesman for Armour Meat Company. Bob moved to Woodsville in the 1950s from Berlin to be closer to his work. Following his retirement from Armour, he worked for several years at Scrugg's Hardware in Woodsville. He married Jeanette L. Grenier in October 1979. Bob was a member of the Ross-Wood American Legion Post #20, Woodsville and a member of the First Baptist Church, Groton. In 2006 Bob moved to Whitefield. He was predeceased by his wife of 18 years, Jeanette L. Ross on March 10, 1997 and a brother Charles Elden Ross. Survivors include his step-daughter, Fonda Beard of Lincoln, N.H.; two step-grandchildren, Nichola Somers and Timothy Tewksbury; four step-great-grandchildren, Barrie Jr. and Austin Long, Jasmine and Cayden Tewksbury; and three nephews. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 1 p.m., at the Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, N.H., with Pastor Dennis Walton from the First Baptist Church, Groton, officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Swiftwater Road, Woodsville in the spring. Kenneth Jay Proctor

, 84, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, N.H., after a very long period of failing health. His son Kevin was at his bedside at the time of his death. Mr. Proctor was born on March 22, 1924, in Los Angeles, Calif., the son of Albert H. and Pearl M. (Jeffcoat) Proctor. While still an infant his family returned to Haileyville, Okla., where he spent his early childhood. Due to his father's employment with the Rock Island Railroad, the family relocated to El Reno, Okla., where Kenneth attended junior high and high school. He graduated from El Reno High School in 1943 where as a senior he was drum major and president of the band. Mr. Proctor was a WWII Merchant Marine combat veteran, having served during armed conflict aboard the Liberty ship S. S. Edward W. Scripps in the North Atlantic under constant threat of attack by bombers, kamikaze, battleships, submarines, mines and land-based artillery. Kenneth returned home to El Reno where he eventually married and raised his family. In 1948 he began working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company (now AT&T) where he worked for 38 years as a Switchman until his retirement in 1986. On Dec. 23, 1949, he married Betty Jean Wilson with whom he had four children. Kenneth held a life-long love of music. He began playing mandolin and guitar early in life and for many years enjoyed playing with various local bands. Kenneth was enamored with the desert southwest, especially parts of Arizona, having studied a great deal about the area and visited many times throughout his life. His interests also included country music, western novels, classic western films, gun collecting and vintage automobiles. In 1998 Kenneth moved to Ryegate, Vermont with his son Kevin who cared for him the last 11 years of his life. Variously known as "Buster," "Kenny" or "K.P." among close relatives and friends, Mr. Proctor possessed a genuinely kind, gentle and patient spirit which endeared him to all who were fortunate to know him. That spirit never wavered. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gilbert Hugh Proctor. He is survived by his wife Betty Jean; son Richard Kent Proctor and wife Vicki; daughter Mary DeAnn Proctor Riley, all of El Reno, Okla.; son Kevin Jay Proctor and partner Ron Cressy of Ryegate; son Kyle Reydon Proctor of St. Johnsbury; sister Margerie Ables and brother-in-law Robert Ables of Winter Haven, Fla.; brother-in-law John D. Wilson and sister-in-law Clydell Wilson of Bakersfield, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Trisha Ann Murray and husband Jay, Richard Shane Proctor and wife Mindy, Jay Quentin Riley, Michael William Riley, Brynna DeAnn Riley, Landon Kyle Proctor, Logan Blake Proctor, and Lauren Kate Proctor, all of El Reno; and three great-grandchildren, Brady Shane Proctor, Madison Scott Murray and Miles Kent Murray, also of El Reno. Mr. Proctor also leaves behind three nieces and six nephews. Burial will be in El Reno, Okla., cemetery with arrangements pending.

, a lifelong resident of Bath, N.H., died peacefully at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, N.H., on Jan. 28, 2009, departing a well-lived life that spanned more than a century. Born Sept. 17, 1903, she was the only child of Benjamin Stymest and Desdemona Bailey Stymest. Doris was a graduate of Bath High School. While still a teenager, she worked in Bath's brick store, owned by her father and, at that time, known as The Stymest Company. She married Harry D. Whitcomb of Bath. After the death of her father in 1931, she and her husband ran the store until their retirement in 1962. Harry passed away in 1965. She enjoyed every aspect of working in the store and serving her community. Doris served on the town Planning Board and was involved in the organization of the town's bicentennial celebration in 1965. She was a contributor to the 1965 town history, "Historical Notes of Bath." Later, Doris enjoyed participating in the Bath Congregational Church's annual sale of homebaked treats and handicrafts to the busloads of fall foliage tourists. A woman of many interests, Doris was an excellent pianist and homemaker, often using her knitting and sewing skills, to the delight of her family. She always enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and time spent with her grandchildren. In her last years, Doris especially enjoyed sitting on the back porch on summer days with her cat, Tipper, while she solved her crosswords or chatted with visitors. Doris is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Fenno of Montpelier and Carol Smith of Bath; three granddaughters, Shelley Fenno Quinn and husband Charles of Columbus, Ohio, Lynn Fenno Maxwell and husband John of Exeter, N.H., and Gwen L. Fenno of Essex Junction; three great-grandchildren, David, Alison and Roslyn Maxwell; and one great-great-grandchild, Charlotte E. Clay. A service is being planned for later in the spring with date and time to be announced. Burial will be in the Bath Village Cemetery. Mrs. Austin was born in Granby on Aug. 11, 1915, a daughter of Ceylon and Sallie (Hodgdon) Shores. In 1954 Leah opened the first community maternity home in Concord. She then went on to become a LPN, working for Weeks Medical Center for several years. After retirement she became a realtor, working with Otis Goss in Danville. For a time she was a driver for RCT and until a month ago she worked at the Gilman Senior Center. Leah enjoyed scrap booking, collecting coins, painting and traveling. She was also involved with the Concord Historical Society and was the co-author of the book "Thru the Woods, Down the Tiver, Over the Hill," written about the history of Granby. Family members include two sons Stephen E. Austin and Donald F. Austin, both of Concord; two daughters Joyce A. Willey of Granby and Hilda A. Lazott of Lunenburg; 21 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; three sisters Ruth Noble and Beverly Shores both of Granby, and Edith Willson of North Concord; a brother Guy Shores of St. Johnsbury; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband S. Freeman Austin in 1984; a sister Sandra Morehouse; and a grandson Joel Willey. Visiting hours will be held Saturday, Jan. 31, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster, N.H. A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Concord Village Cemetery, Concord. , 85, of Lyndonville, died Thursday evening Jan. 29, 2009, at St. Johnsbury Health & Rehabilitation Center where she has resided since December 2008. She was born Nov. 29, 1923, in New York City, N.Y., the last surviving child of John and Victoria (Tamulonis) Stankevicz. In 1942 she graduated from John Adam High School in Ozone Park, N.Y. On Dec. 30, 1945, she married John D. Hood in Brooklyn, N.Y. Anna worked in business offices over the years performing clerical tasks. She lived in Long Island, N.Y., for several years, Florida for 15 years, and for the last 21 years she lived in Lyndonville. While in Long Island and West Palm Beach, Fla., she also worked as a private caregiver. Anna loved swimming, going for walks, rollerskating, dancing, spending time with her family, and following her catholic faith. She was predeceased by her husband John Hood in 1955; and her four siblings, Mary Hieber, Millicent "Millie" Stachel, Joseph Stankevicius, and Frances Eggers. Survivors include her daughter, Linda Craig and husband Raymond of Montpelier; three grandchildren, Jennifer Aubin and husband Chip of Lyndonville, Michael Craig of Montpelier, and James Craig and wife Krista of Vernon, Conn.; two great-grandchildren, Cody and Dylan Aubin of Lyndonville; and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Sunday Feb. 1, at 3 p.m., at the Guibord Funeral Home with the Rev. Jon-Daniel Schnobrich celebrant. Friends may call on the family one hour prior to the start of the service beginning at 2 p.m. Spring burial will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Lyndonville. , Jr., age 72, of Dalton, N.H., passed away on Thursday, Jan. 29, at the Weeks Medical Center in Lancaster, N.H. James was born and raised in Littleton, N.H., the son of James A. and Ruth P. (Celley) Newton, Sr., on Dec. 27, 1936. James was a member of the Beekeeping Association. He enjoyed woodworking, farming on his own farm, gardening, beekeeping, and spending time with his family and friends. James drove the local school bus for many years. Surviving family members include his wife of 53 years, Leona (Vance) Newton of Dalton; two sons, James A. Newton, III and wife, Deb of Whitefield, N.H., and Lawrence and wife, Deb Newton of Dalton; one daughter, Brenda and husband, Kenneth Yeargle of Littleton; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; five brothers and sisters, Jeanette and Kenneth Bisson of Littleton, Betsy Mardin of Lisbon, N.H., Edna Walker of Littleton, Von and Rita Newton of Littleton, and Willard and Edna Newton of Monroe, N.H.; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and one son. The family will receive friends on Sunday, Feb. 1 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the Pillsbury Funeral Home located at 101 Union Street in Littleton. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Feb. 2, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Sam Newton officiating. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery. Vida Nina Fitchett

died at St. Johnsbury Health & Rehab on Jan. 30, 2009, after failing health. Vida was born in Lower Waterford, April 5, 1917, to Nina (Quimby) and Irving Watson. She attended school in East St. Johnsbury, Upper Waterford, and the Wood School in Waterford. She stayed home for several years to help out on the farm. She married John Lawrence Fitchett on June 18, 1938. They had two sons, Wesley and Stephen Fitchett. She was a member the Grace United Methodist Church in St. Johnsbury. She had many friends and relatives. She is survived by sons Wess Fitchett and wife Marie of Barnet, and Stephen Fitchett and wife Valerie of Whitefield, N.H.; granddaughters Cindy Lessard of Portland, Mainel, Sharon Duffy and husband Mike of Grafton, N.H., Kelli Bradbury and husband Paul of West Stockbridge, Mass., Kristen Lucas and husband Carroll of Littleton, N.H., and Terry Palmer of Rochester, N.H.; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. She was predeceased by her husband John in 1986. Funeral services will be held at the Sayles Funeral Home Monday, Feb. 2 at 2 p.m. The Rev. John Marshall will officiate. Committal prayers will be said at the funeral home with burial at Riverside Cemetery in Lower Waterford in the spring. , 76, of Sheffield, died peacefully Jan. 29, 2009, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 16, 1932, in Newport a daughter of Walter and Doris (Witcher) King. She married Lionel A. Perron on Feb. 28, 1954, who predeceased her in 1980. Later she married Paul Muller who also predeceased her. Mrs. Muller was employed as rural carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Barton and Glover. She was a longtime member of the Glover Community Church and Woman's Union where she was treasurer for 39 years. Sherry enjoyed gardening, knitting, card playing, dancing, swimming, and the company of her grandchildren. She also drove school bus for several years. She is survived by her children, Gail Lyman and her husband Gary of West Glover, Dale Perron and his wife Brenda of Coventry, and Marvin Perron and his wife Lisa of Glover; by the following grandchildren: Mit Lyman, Dean, Carly, Melonee and Logan Perron; a special friend Raymond "Jr" Cota of Barton; two brothers, Frederick King of Lyme, N.H., and Donald King and his wife Harriet King of West Glover; brother-in-law Arland Butler of Irasburg; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters, Janice Butler, Carolyn Perron, and Barbara Kinsley. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 9 p.m. on Sunday Feb. 1, 2009, at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home, Elm Street, Barton.
