, 93, of Glover passed away in Glover on Jan. 7, 2009. She was born in Thetford Mines, Quebec, a daughter of Alfred and Noella (Morency) Perron. She married Edward Pudvah in 1935 who predeceased her March 24, 2000. Mamie spent most of her life in Glover where she was a member of the Glover Community Church and the Glover Women's Union. She enjoyed bowling in her younger years, also knitting, sewing, making quilts, and was an excellent cook all to the delight of her family and friends. Her true passion was her beautiful flower gardens. She was a loving person to all her family and she always enjoyed gatherings and their visits. During her many years she worked at several different stores, the hot lunch program at the Glover Graded School and she always made herself available to help her family and friends. She is survived by her children, Beverly Young of Glover, Phyllis Day and her husband Edward of Lyndonville, Laurice Pudvah and his wife Dorothy of Connecticut., Pauline Locke and her husband Marcel of Albany, Paulette Rogers and her husband Michael of Glover, Loretta Maynard and her husband James of Florida., and Richard Pudvah and his wife Louise of California; her sister Adrienne Kells of Connecticut; 26 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Edward, daughter Janice and her husband Philip Brown, by her son-in-law Ray Young and by the following brothers: Rene,Roger, Donald, Norman and by a sister Blanche. There will be no calling hours at this time. A memorial service will be held in May at the Glover Community Church with interment to follow at the Westlook Cemetery. This will be announced prior to the service. Marie M. Sleeper

, of St. Johnsbury, died Thursday evening Jan. 8, 2009, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury, at the age of 85. She was born March 12, 1923, in Bakersfield, a daughter of Lee and Mildred (Fletcher) Maynard. In 1940 she graduated from Brigham Academy in Bakersfield. On July 14, 1946 Marie married Norman Sleeper. She had worked as a bookkeeper for Ralston Purina Co. in St. Johnsbury for several years. Later, she worked as a bookkeeper for C. N. Brown, Hovey Shops, Goldbergs, and Vermont Gas Co., all of St. Johnsbury. An active member of Grace United Methodist Church in St. Johnsbury, Marie was involved in the United Methodist Womans Group, the Church Choir, and the Junior Womans Group. She had also been active in the Arlington School P.T.A., was a volunteer librarian there, and volunteered at NVRH. She was a strong Celtics and Red Sox fan. Fishing, square dancing, and watching golf brought her much pleasure as well. Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Norman Sleeper of St. Johnsbury; two children, John Sleeper and wife Elaine of Lyndon, (P.O. Box 9, 05849), and Susan Myrick of Groton, Mass.; six grandchildren, Kevin, Matthew, Rebecca, Allison, Bonnie, and Eric; three great-grandchildren, Camden, Brice, and Chase; two brothers, John Maynard and wife Marjorie of East Fairfield, and William Maynard and wife Kathy of Springfield; a sister, Pauline Tanner of Springfield; a brother-in-law, Neal Sleeper of Hampden, Mass.; and many nieces, nephews, and several close friends. She was pre-deceased by her parents; three sisters, Marjorie Bullis, Blanche Gelbar, and Rhoda McGinn; and two sisters in-law, Barbara Terrill, and Marjorie Sleeper. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 13, at 11 a.m. at the Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Marshall officiating. Spring burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in St. Johnsbury. There will be no visiting hours. , of Lyme, N.H., died at home on Friday, Jan. 9, 2009. She was born in Strafford, Vt., the eldest daughter of James and Mildred (Judd) Doyle. She attended Miller Pond School and then graduated from Thetford Academy in 1937. She received her teaching certification from Lyndon Normal School and later received her bachelor's degree from Lyndon State College. She began her teaching career at Andersonville School in Glover, Vt. She then taught at Wright School in Glover, where she met her future husband, the oldest brother of two of her students. In 1943, she and Frederic King married in Albany, Vt. They moved to Lyme in 1950. While caring for her family, she was also the bookkeeper for her husband's construction business. She returned to teaching full time in 1967 and taught at Fairlee, Vermont Elementary School until her retirement. She was subsequently a school volunteer in Lyme, receiving the Lifetime Volunteer Award in 1997. She also provided loving child care in her home. She is survived by her husband; her seven children, Nancy Fellows of Hopkinton, N.H., Martha Jones of Manassas Park, Va., Cynthia Baggett of Alexandria, Va., Sandra Simkulet of Andover, Kan., Stephen King of Tolland, Conn., Colleen King of Lebanon, N.H., and Susan Unsworth of Sunapee; as well as 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Surviving siblings include sisters Marjorie Christiansen of East St. Johnsbury, Vt.; Shirley Godfrey of Fairlee, Vt., and Dorothy Santoleri of Delran, N.J., and brothers, Paul Doyle of Barton, Vt; Kenneth Doyle of Strafford, Vt.; and Richard Doyle of Warrensburg, N.Y. She was predeceased by her sister Ruth Waterbury and brothers Dawson, William, Donald, Charles and Robert Doyle. Family and friends are invited to calling hours at Ricker Funeral Home in Lebanon, N.H., on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Lyme on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Donna Colletti Lowre officiating. Catherine "Kay" Sherman

, of St. Johnsbury, died Saturday afternoon Jan. 10, 2009, at her home, with her family by her side. She was 81. She was born Oct. 7, 1927, in Putney, Vt., the daughter of Robert and Alice (Perry) Crosby. Kay graduated from Brattleboro Union High School in 1945, and two years later she graduated from Colby Junior College. On March 19, 1949, she married Joseph "Joe" Sherman in Brattleboro where they began their life together. They had three children. In 1962 they moved to St. Johnsbury when Joe accepted a position with Citizens Bank. Kay enjoyed following politics with her husband, State Senator Joe Sherman, following his retirement from Citizens Bank where he served as Bank President. She was a strong supporter of her husband and family, and loved being at their camp on Harvey's Lake in West Barnet, and skiing at Burke Mountain. Survivors include three children and their spouses: Crosby and Helen Sherman of Skillman, N.J., Jan Sherman and Wayne Berge of West Barnet, and Thomas and Gina Sherman of Canterbury, Conn.; three granddaughters: Morgan Lamb and husband TJ, Kyle Berge, and Alexandra Sherman; two brothers: Bernard Crosby and wife Josephine of Brattleboro, and Thomas Crosby and his wife of West Chesterfield, N.H.; nieces, nephews and her beloved dog Mysty. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Joe Sherman in 2003, and a brother, Joseph Crosby. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 14, at 10 a.m. at North Congregational Church in St. Johnsbury with the Rev. Jay Sprout officiating. Friends may meet with the family Tuesday evening from 6-8 at Sayles Funeral Home. Spring burial will be at the West Barnet Cemetery. , 88, of Highland St., Whitefield, N.H., died Saturday morning Jan. 10, 2008, at the Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, N.H. Mr. Hanson was born in Concord, N.H., on May 9, 1920, the son of Lawrence C. and Mary (Cawley) Hanson. Raised in Concord he was a 1938 graduate of Concord High School. He lived there most of his life having worked for the A&P Store in Concord, then 13 years at the Cote Sunbeam Bakery, Manchester, and 22 years for Sears in Manchester, retiring in 1982 as merchant manager. Henry and his wife Virginia (Robbins) Hanson loved to travel and have visited every state except Alaska. Upon Henry's retirement in 1982 they moved to Margate, Fla. They lived there until 1997 and due to Virginia's declining health, moved back to the area to be with family. He and Virginia were married on March 27, 1939. Henry also enjoyed playing bingo and cards. Surviving family members include a daughter, Nancy H. Desrochers and her husband Bert of Maidstone Lake, Vt.; three grandchildren, Michael Desrochers and his wife Colleen of Newfields, N.H., Mark Desrochers and his wife Sarah of Lancaster, N.H., Lori Shearer and her husband Doug of Lancaster; a niece, Robbin Grill and her husband Alan of Boscowen, N.H.; five great-grandchildren, Brianna, Lindsey, Steven, Travis and Matthew. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday evening, Jan. 14, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. following the visiting hours. Sherry Walter Belknap

, 52, a life-long Bloomfield, Vt. resident, passed away Thursday evening, Jan. 8, 2009, at his home, surrounded by his family, following an extended battle with cancer. Sherry was born in Lancaster, N.H., on Feb. 24, 1956, a son of Walter Joseph and Laura Ann (Roby) Belknap. He graduated from Stratford High School and attended Berlin Technical College in Berlin, N.H. Following his time in Berlin, he worked locally as a logging contractor. In 1984, he joined Labonville, Inc. in Gorham, N.H., and he excelled in the logging equipment business to become a national sales representative until 2007. Sherry was a bear of a man with a big heart and a penchant for puppies and other small vulnerable creatures. He loved his baby dogs Whoopee, Abigail and Peek-a-boo dearly. He was a man of conscience and action, with a commitment to his community. He served as a selectman for the Town of Bloomfield for 18 years, and he raised over $100,000 in grants to restore the old Bloomfield Town Hall, doing much of the rehabilitation work and painting himself. He was an outspoken advocate for the conservation of the Champion Paper Company lands and was appointed by Governor Howard Dean to chair the Champion Lands Advisory Council. In 2002, with the possibility of a town center being revitalized, Sherry worked with the former owners of DeBanville's Store, Junior and Rose DeBanville, to raze the old buildings and build a new general store. The new store, deli and gas station opened in January, 2004, and has become a hub of activity and a gathering place for local citizens. Sherry and his wife, Darlene, sold the family house on Route 105 west of Bloomfield in 2005 and moved to the "camp" on his beloved Nulhegan River. All the while battling cancer, Sherry continued his efforts to improve the quality of life for his town. In 2007, he conserved 14 acres of the riverfront lands in Bloomfield on Route 102 to ensure public access to the Connecticut and Nulhegan Rivers into the future. In addition to his loving wife, Darlene Ann (Poulin) Belknap of Bloomfield, Sherry is survived by his daughter, Karen Ann (Belknap) LaBree and husband, Eric Robert, of West Danville, Vt.; his father, Walter Joseph Belknap of Sandown, N.H.; his siblings, Julie Crichette Woods of Canaan, Vt., Mary Belknap Noyes of North Stratford, N.H., Michael Walter Belknap of Bloomfield, Sally Belknap Biron of West Stewartstown, N.H., and James Lindsey Belknap of West Stewartstown, N.H.; his step-mother, Beverly LeClair and husband, Bryant, of West Stewartstown, N.H.; a step-brother, Robert "Bobby" LeClair of West Stewartstown, N.H.; and a sister from his mother's previous marriage, Shirley Hubbard Thibeault of Beecher Falls, Vt. Sherry is preceded in death by his mother, Laura Ann Roby, and his brother, Claude Hubbard. Calling hours will be Tuesday, Jan. 13, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook, N.H. , 84, of Walden, went home to her beloved Lord on Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, following a very long, courageous battle with cancer. She was born Sept. 30, 1924, in Roxton Pond, Quebec, Canada. Oldest daughter of Leo and Albertine Brosseau. Her family moved to Vermont when she was five years old. She proudly became a United States Citizen and served the Postal Service for 18 years. Before her retirement in 1987 she was Post Master in Eden. She was married to Edgar A. Strong on Nov. 20, 1948. She is survived by three daughters: Hazel M Greaves and her husband Marvin Jr. of Walden, Elizabeth Brown and her husband David of Walden and Patricia Picard and her husband Michel of East Hardwick. Her grandchildren: Todd Hodgdon and his wife Darcy, Bret Hodgdon and his wife Nicole, Kimberly (Brown) Kiniry and her husband Brian, Kristopher Brown and his wife Lisa, Leigh (Picard) Metcalf and her husband Chase, Marc Picard and his wife Sharon; and her 10 beautiful great-grandchildren. Her siblings: Claire and her husband John Greaves, Georgette and her husband Marvin Greaves Sr., Guy and his wife Mona, Lucille and her husband Raymond Royer, Robert Brosseau, Denise Dewing, Paul Brosseau and his wife Nicole, Norman Brosseau and his wife Aline, Susan and her husband Forrest Aste, and sister-in-law Claire Brosseau along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and her brothers: John and Lawrence Brosseau. Mary enjoyed her new home in Walden and she enjoyed sewing and quilting for her great-grandchildren. , 90, of Williston, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 11, at Fletcher Allen Health Care after a brief stay. Gordon was a proud Vermonter, born June 28, 1918, to Glenn and Almira Woods in St. Johnsbury. He attended St. Johnsbury schools and Northeastern University School of Engineering. Gordon taught for several years at the former St. Johnsbury Trade school. His subjects were math, physics, and mechanical drafting. In addition, he coached the basketball and baseball teams. While still teaching, he opened his first architectural office in St. Johnsbury and then in Burlington. He was very proud to be named Architect Emeritus by the American Institute of Architects, for having been in active practice for over 50 years. His practice extended not only in Vermont but also into New Hampshire and New York State. Gordon was a member of South Congregational Church in St. Johnsbury and taught Sunday school there for many years. He was also a member of the First Congregational Church in Burlington where he was active on several committees. In earlier years, Gordon loved hunting and fishing the many wonderful streams in Calendonia County. He also loved sports of all kinds and followed his children's school activities. He was a cancer survivor of many years. In 1948 he married Dorothea Perry of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia and five children were born to them, three of whom survive: Judy Rogers and husband, John Rogers of Lenox, Mass., Brian and his wife Maryann Woods of Georgia, Vt., and Beverly Spencer and partner Roy Van Dusen of Vergennes. He was a loving "Poppa" to seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sister-in-law Charlotte Weeks of East St. Johnsbury and brother-in-law Charles Perry of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia as well as many nieces and nephews. Gordon was predeceased by sons Jeffrey in infancy and Jason in 1999. He was also predeceased by his sister Evelyn Oliver. Gordon's family would like to recognize and thank all the loving and efficient care givers at the Green Mountain Nursing in Colchester where he spent a few months. The family would also like to recognize and thank the staff at Baird 6 at FAHC for their nurturing attention and care. There are no services at this time, but there will be a service for family and friends in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.

, 76, of Acworth, Ga., passed away on Jan. 6, 2009 after a long illness. Fred was born Dec. 26, 1932, in Whitefield, N.H., to John and Mabel Stiles. He had one older sister, Eleanor Stiles Lamparelli (deceased) and has one younger brother, Robert (Bob) Stiles who lives in Whitefield. Fred attended the University of New Hampshire and earned a degree in Agriculture. He served in the US Army, and was awarded a Medal of Good Conduct. He was a member of Northstar Lodge masons for over 50 years. Fred married Miriam Fekay on Nov. 26, 1956, and together they celebrated 52 years of marriage in November of 2008. Fred was co-owner of Stiles Fuel Company and lived in Whitefield from his birth until he moved to Georgia with his wife Mimi in 2000 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Fred is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mimi Stiles; six children, Daniel Frederick Stiles of High Point, N.C., Carrie Stiles Stringer of Marietta, Ga., John Tracey Stiles of Whitefield, Mitchell Todd Stiles of Dallas, Ga., Holly Stiles Hill of Woodstock, Ga., and Aaron David Stiles of Acworth, Ga.; and six grandchildren. A funeral service was performed in Acworth on Jan. 10 and a Memorial Service will be held in Whitefield in the summer of 2009 when his ashes will be laid to rest at the Park Street Cemetary in Whitefield. Details of the service will be published in local newspapers prior to the event and will be open to the public. Fred will be remembered as a kind, hardworking man and will be missed greatly.

, age 81, of North Haverhill, N.H., passed away on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at the Grafton County Nursing Home. Rita was born on July 23, 1927, a daughter to Olive Larrivee of Berlin, N.H. She attended Littleton High School and graduated in the summer of 1946. Shortly thereafter Rita married Lawrence R. Holmes in July 1946, until his death in May 1990. Rita was employed with New England Tel & Tel for 14 years, seven years with Dr. Robert Enderson, DMD, and finally retired from the Littleton Hospital after 15 years. She was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary, V.F.W. Post #816, where she was President and District President. Rita is survived by her son, Gregory C. Holmes, Sr. of Lake Placid, Fla., and one grandson, Gregory C. Holmes, Jr. better known as "Chad," of Sarasota, Fla. A Graveside service will be held in the spring, on Saturday, May 23, at 10 a.m. in the Glenwood Cemetery in Littleton, N.H. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the V.F.W. , 51, of Peacham, died accidentally Sunday morning Jan. 11, 2009, at his farm in South Peacham. He was born Oct. 8, 1957, in Salem, Mass., the son of Clarence and Shirley (Doane) Davis. Don was raised in Brookfield, Vt., and graduated from Randolph Union High School in 1975. He was on the Brookfield Fire Department and worked as a sheet metal fabricator with his Journeyman's license out of Burlington. In 1985 he purchased his farm in South Peacham where he enjoyed his herd of Holstein cattle and putting up his crops. He was a former member of the Peacham Volunteer Fire Department; was a member of Mystic Star Phoenix Lodge # 97 F&AM of Brookfield; the Holstein Association; and DHIA. He was a good hardworking farmer who was considered a valued member of the Peacham community and was well liked. He loved his family, his friends, and his community. Survivors include his mother, Shirley Davis of Texas; his two children, Iris Davis of Moretown, and Wesley Davis of Coventry; his companion, Phyllis Sweeney of Danville; four brothers, Clifford Davis and wife Ruth of Waco, Texas, Carl Davis of Colorado, Paul Davis and wife Diane of Randolph, and Alan Davis and wife Judy of Charleston; his former wife, Mary Jo Davis of Moretown and her family; his father and mother in-law, Stanley and Catherine Scribner of Moretown; nieces, nephews, and many good friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 17, at 1 p.m., at the Peacham Congregational Church with Dr. Rev. Robert A. Potter officiating. Spring burial will be in Peacham Cemetery. of Attica, N.Y., at the age of 83, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, at the East Side Nursing Home in Warsaw, N.Y. She was born April 9, 1925 in Jefferson, N.H., a daughter of the late John A. and Ida Louise Flower Streeter. Olive, along with her kid brother, Johnny, were raised by a caregiver, "Hattie" Hall and their dad, John A, in Lunenburg, Vt. At high school age, Olive, along with Johnny attended Lancaster, N.H., Academy. After the sophomore year Olive left high school and became employed at the Cellucord Corporation in Gilman, Vt., and assisted with the expense for Johnny to continue on to graduate from Lancaster Academy. After Johnny's graduating and entering the U.S. Navy, Olive went to Lake Placid, N.Y., and became employed at a Rehabilitation Center for returning service men of WWII. It was there she met her husband, Bernard Taylor, of Attica, N.Y. Olive's deceased family members include her husband, Bernard, and two older brothers, Willard (Buster), Dalton, N.H., and Richard (Dick), Whitefield, N.H. Surviving is a son, David Taylor, of New River, Ariz.; a brother, John (Johnny) of Littleton, N.H.; three granddaughters; 10 great-granddaughters; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Catherine "Sis" (Vasko) Engelmann

, 87, of Windsor, Conn., beloved wife of the late Carl A. Engelmann, Jr., passed away peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Hartford, Conn., on July 6, 1921, to the late William and Katherine (Scanlon) Vasko. Sis spent most of her life in Windsor except for a brief period during WWII when she lived in Tennessee and also nine years in West Glover, Vt., working on her family's farm. She led an active and full life, travelled throughout the United States and Europe, enjoyed being outdoors, was a champion bridge player, and an avid writer. Sis was known to cook the family dinner in one instance and be driving a truck in the next. She was a member of the Aging & Handicap Commission for the town of Windsor. After Carl's death in 1975 she found great satisfaction antiquing, always pursuing her next great find. Sis loved reading and was a huge advocate for literacy. Her positive attitude was infectious and will be remembered most. She leaves her sons, Carl A. Engelmann, III, and his wife Joyce of Costigan, Maine, William T. Engelmann and his wife Cathy Blair of Lyndonville, Vt., Justin Lee Engelmann of Broad Brook state; her daughters, Jane M. Garibay and her husband Bernardo of Windsor; and Carol A. Engelmann of Windsor; a brother, Thomas Vasko of Maine; 12 grandchildren, Erica, Carl IV, William, Monica, Michael, and Rebecca Engelmann, Lori Robinson, Jenny Blair, Donna Reyes, Catherine Beaton, Jose Garibay, and Andrew Garibay. Sis also leaves five great-grandchildren as well as a special friend, Nancy Donahue. Besides her husband and parents she was predeceased by two brothers, William and Victor Vasko; two sisters, Barbara Jubb and Dolores Horan; and a granddaughter, Melanie Engelmann. A Memorial Service will be held at noon on Saturday, Jan. 17, at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor. Burial will follow in Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Windsor. , 76, died on Monday, Jan. 12, 2009, at his residence on Plains Road in Monroe, N.H. William was born in Sandyston Township, N.J., on July 12, 1932, to Merlin Shay and Alice (Morris) Heater. He graduated from Newton High School in Newton, N.J. He married Alice Howell on Aug. 15, 1953. In his early working career he worked for the Ford Motor Company in Mahwah, N.J., as manager of the quality control department. For many years he was a produce farmer in Layton, N.J. William and Alice moved to Monroe on Nov. 5, 1995, from New Jersey. He was a former member of the Pine Grove Grange in Bath, N.H. He had a passion for baking and cooking, along with making his own wine. He was predeceased by his sister, Sharon O'Brien on Oct. 31, 2006. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Alice Heater of Monroe, N.H.; his three children, Alice Susan Cooper and husband Charles of Delaware Water Gap, Pa., William M. Heater and wife Jenny of Kissimmee, Fla., and Eva Marie Heater of New Haven, Conn.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; seven siblings, Shirley Lambert, Jerry and Ronald Heater of Branchville, N.J., Richard Heater of Bridgewater, N.Y., Fred, Ralph, and Carl Heater also of Branchville; one aunt and several nieces, nephews, cousins. Calling hours and funeral service will be on Friday, Jan. 16, 2009. A calling hour will be at 4 p.m., with a funeral service beginning at 5 p.m., at the Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH, with Rev. Donald Thomas of the Monroe Community Church officiating. Burial will be in the spring in the Monroe Village Cemetery. , 91, of Craftsbury, died at North Country Hospital in Newport following a brief illness. Avis was born Feb. 21, 1917, the daughter of William and Lillian Ethel (King) Harvey. She attended Hardwick Academy and on May 29, 1935, married Hugh Houston. She and Hugh owned and operated a dairy farm in Walden and in Craftsbury. Avis was a past member of the School Board in Walden then served as an Auditor and member of the Civil Board of Authority in Craftsbury. She was a former Deaconness of the United Church of Craftsbury, a member of the Ladies Union, and a member of theformer Craftsbury Grange. She enjoyed her family, cooking and birdwatching. She leaves seven children, a son, Gary Houston and his wife Nioka, of Hyde Park; six daughters, Sarah Houston of Walden, Susan Slosek and her husband, Stpehen, of West Glover and Nantucket, Amy Curtis of Newport, Judy Forester and her husband, Arthur, of East Albany, Anne Starr of Omaha, Neb., and Rebecca Young and her husband Robert (Ted), of West Glover; three sisters-in-laws, Louise Salls, Rachel Bailey and Beverly Houston; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and many extended family. She was predeceased by her husband, Hugh, who died in October 2004; a daughter, Lillian, who died at age 8; and a brother, Ross Harvey. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 17, at 11 a.m., at the United Church of Craftsbury in Craftsbury Common with Pastor Alan Parker officiating. Final interment will be in the Houston Hill Cemetery in Walden. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

, 81, born Jan. 16, 1927, passed away Jan. 12, 2009, in Indianapolis, Ind. Ernest was the son of Charles and Beatrice (Fellows) King. He served in the Navy in World War II. He was an avid race car driver and enthusiast and an auto mechanic. He also worked in the woods. Members of his family include his son Bruce King and his wife Norma of Littleton, N.H. and a daughter Sherry Lufkin and husband Danny of Lancaster, N.H., one sister Thelma Adams of Oregon, six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sons Brian in 1966 and Michael in 1983, one sister Elizabeth King, two brothers Henry and Theodore King. A memorial service will be held Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, at 2 p.m. in the Littleton Bible Baptist Church at 94 Union St.

, age 66, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, after an extended illness in the Hamrick Home. Born Jan. 1, 1943, in St. Johnsbury, she had been a resident of Okeechobee for the past 15 years. She served in the Peace Corps and taught at both Osceola Middle School and the Yearling Middle School. She is survived by her sisters, Claire Fellows (Emery) of Danville, Lee Chaffee of Goffstown, N.H., Rose Hirst (John) of Boiling Springs, N.C.; brothers, William B. Chaffee (Janet) of Florida, Michael P. Chaffee (Vivian) of Amarillo, Texas. In addition she is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. , 95, of Barton passed away on Jan. 13, 2009, in Glover. She was born on Jan. 5, 1914, in Coventry a daughter of Carl Eugene and Myrtie (Simpson) Goss. Arlene married Earl W. Brooks who predeceased her in 1983. Arlene enjoyed playing the piano and singing at the county fair, nursing homes, and weddings. Arlene was an actress for short plays for long living. She was very active with St. Paul's Catholic Church. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Orleans, V.F.W. Auxiliary in Newport, former member of the Oment Chapter O.E.S., and the Crystal Lake Grange. Arlene is survived by her two children Denise Wright of Barton and Faylene Steere of Glover; two grandchildren Andrew Biancardi and his wife Laura of Grafton, Mass.; and Jeana Balch-Dill and her husband Glenn of North Hampton, N.H.; and by 11 great-grandchildren, Kirk, Kyle, Kevin, Dominic, Anthony, Thomas, Alexandria, Brennan, Savanna, Juliette, and Samuel, and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters Dorothy Kenyon and Bernice Richards, and by two brothers, Preston Wheeler and George Goss. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Barton with the Rev. Sixmund Nyabenda celebrating a mass of Christian burial. Spring interment will be held at Westlook Cemetery in Glover.
