, age 90, of 25 Oak Hill Avenue, Littleton, N.H., died peacefully on June 22, 2009, at the Lafayette Center in Franconia, N.H., in the presence of his wife, of 62 years, Evelyn M. Cryans, and his eldest child, Fr. Andrew William Cryans, Jr. Mr. Cryans was born on Sept. 12, 1918, in St. Pierre West Broughton, P.Q. Canada, the third of 11 children born to William Francis Cryans and Ann McGuire. A naturalized American citizen, he came to Littleton in 1937. A gifted carpenter and craftsman, Mr. Cryans spent most of his working career in building, restoring and remodeling homes. Andrew served his country in the United States Army during the Second World War and was part of the occupation force of Japan. He was also a veteran of the Korean conflict. He was a charter member of Post 816 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Post 0068. A devoted Catholic, Mr. Cryans was a long time member of St. Rose of Lima Parish and was involved for many years in the Knights of Columbus as a 3rd degree member of Council No. 1833 and a 4th degree member of Assembly No. 636. In earlier years Mr. Cryans was involved in fund raising projects for St. Rose of Lima School and was a Church usher. He also did volunteer work in the Meals on Wheels project and was active in the Littleton Senior Center as a volunteer. Andrew is survived by his wife Evelyn Mae Howard whom he married on Jan. 25, 1947 at the Church of St. Rose of Lima; his four children, Fr. Andrew W. Cryans, Jr., Pastor of St. Thomas More Church Durham, N.H., and Chaplain at the University of New Hampshire, Grafton County Commissioner Michael James Cryans and wife, Julie of Hanover, N.H., Jeffrey H. Cryans of Palm Beach, Fla., and Lorie Ann Fields and husband, Mark of Concord, N.H.; seven grandchildren, Cameron and Conner Cryans, Heather Grato, Tory Cryans, Colby Fiester, Miranda and Christopher Fields; and one great-grandson, Gavin Cryans. Only two of his 10 siblings, Bernice Kozyra of West Hartford, Conn., and Ethel Bouchard of Rocky Hill, Conn., survive him. Mr. Cryans is well remembered for his playful sense of humor, Irish wit, great integrity and selfless dedication to his faith and family and for his prayerfulness. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 24, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Pillsbury Funeral Home located at 101 Union Street in Littleton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church on Thursday, June 25, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Andrew W. Cryans, Jr., presiding, assisted by long time family friend Rev. John P. Rosson, Pastor of St. Mary Church in Cooperstown, N.Y., and Rev. Marcel Martel Pastor of St. Rose of Lima Church. Most Rev. Francis J. Christian, Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Manchester, will offer the Prayers of Commendation. Interment will follow at the family plot in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery. Eleanor Shirley (Smith) Chase

, of Littleton, N.H., went home to be with her Lord on June 19, 2009 after a long illness. She was born on Jan. 2, 1925, a daughter to Roy and Elizabeth (Hoffman) Smith in East Burke, VT. Eleanor married Robert Clifton (Bob) Chase on Jan. 10, 1948. Eleanor was a member of the Littleton First United Methodist Church for over 48 years and was involved in Bible Studies, the Membership Committee which she worked hard on, the United Methodist Women and the Ecumenical Breakfast Group, of which she was one of the original founders, for many years. She loved her church family and was supportive of all with her warm smile and caring. She ran a day care for many years and lovingly cared for many of the children of the area. Survivors include one son Clifton R. and wife, Linda Chase of Orange, Mass.; one daughter, Alice M. and Matt Cross of Fuquay-Varina, N.C.; six grandchildren, Steven Chase, Clifton Varney, Charles Floyd, Jr., Katrina Betts, Christine Blodgett, and Austin Cross; eight great-grandchildren; nieces, great nieces, great nephews; and a sister-in-law, Gertrude Smith of Scranton, Pa. She also leaves her caregivers and best friends, Nancy and Charlie Collins, who she called her "second daughter-in-law and son." Eleanor was predeceased by her parents, her sister, Arlene Hamel, her brother Irving Smith, and granddaughter, Abbey Beth Cross. A Memorial Service will be held on July 2, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Sam Newton officiating, followed by a luncheon in the church hall. A committal service will be held in the East Burke Cemetery in East Burke. , age 65, a Brownington resident passed away Sunday, June 21, 2009, at her daughters home in St. Johnsbury. The daughter of Clarence and Bertha (Hodgdon) Bailey, she was born August 15, 1943, in St. Johnsbury. She graduated from Lyndon Institute Class of 1962. She married Ralph N. Newland, who predeceased her June 7, 1997. She worked several jobs including Burke Mountain, Bernard Murphy, Lyndonville Hardware, Price Chopper, Butson's Groceries in West Lebanon & Littleton, N.H., retiring in 2006. She enjoyed fishing, ceramics and NASCAR, her favorite was Tony Stewart. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ardel is survived by two children, Wanda Lawrence and companion John of St. Johnsbury; Ralph Newland, II and companion Erica of Brownington; four grandchildren, three step grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren; brother and sister in law, Harold Newland and Georgia Newland, whom she was especially close to; several cousins, nieces and nephews, brother and sister in laws. She was predeceased by a daughter, Lorrie Ann Newland in March 1982, brother, Arden Bailey in 2000, a step granddaughter, Jackie Lakin in Feb. 2005. Calling hours will be Sunday, June 28, from 4to 6 p.m., at Pearsons Funeral Home, located at 70 Church St., Lyndonville. , formerly of East Peacham, died peacefully Monday evening June 22, 2009, with her family by her side at St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center, at the age of 95. She was born June 10, 1914, in Barnet, the daughter of Harley and Mae (Estey) Hutchins. She was a graduate of Danville High School. On June 10, 1936, she married Kenneth L. Goslant. He predeceased her in 2005. Ruby was an active member of the Peacham Congregational Church. Her cooking and baking talents were enjoyed by many, especially her donuts and baked beans, and no one ever left her home hungry. She loved taking good care of her family and friends as well as helping out of the farm. Survivors include two sons, Kenneth E. Goslant and companion Sharon of Peacham, and Albert Goslant and companion Janet of Maine; a daughter, Marion Goguen of East Peacham; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was also predeceased by her parents; four brothers; two sisters; and a granddaughter, Shannon McCaffrey. A Memorial service will be held at the Peacham Congregational Church Thursday, July 2, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Dr. Robert A. Potter officiating. Burial in the Peacham Cemetery will be private. of Kirby, passed away at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital Thursday, June 25, 2009, after a brief illness. She was 92. She was born in Kirby, on April 24, 1917, one of the 11 children of Ernest and Dolly (LaMere) Quimby. Hope was dedicated to her family and East St. Johnsbury community. She was involved with church events at the Third Congregational Church such as rummage sales and harvest suppers. How she loved to pick all kinds berries and give bagfuls to her friends and neighbors. And, she was a terror on the roads; one granddaughter gave her the name Daisy Duke! She was predeceased by her husband Edward in November 1986, her son Walter Frechette who died at the age of 50, and recently her beloved daughter-in-law Margaret Madore Frechette. As a child Catherine O'Connor spent several weeks during the summer with the Quimby family and remained close over the years until her passing. She is survived by her four children, Louise McLaughlin and husband Charles of Dix Hills, N.Y., Blanche Cadorette and husband Gerald of Kirby, William Frechette of Victory, and Joseph Frechette and wife Millie of Bristol, Conn.; a sister Lorraine Colby and husband Maurice of East St. Johnsbury; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; and many nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Murray, George, Wendall, Eula, Lynwood, Phebe, Ethelyn, Lorna, and Kay. Funeral services will be held in East St. Johnsbury Saturday, June 27, at 11 a.m., at the Third Congregational Church located on US Route 2 East. Burial will follow at the Grove Cemetery in East St. Johnsbury. The Rev. Ann Hockridge, pastor, will officiate. He is survived by his parents, Julie and DJ of Passumpsic; his maternal grandparents Sandy Shattuck of St. Johnsbury and Shaun Whitcher of Danville; his paternal grandparents Deborah Kittredge of Passumpsic and Darryl Kittredge of Danville; maternal great-grandmother Marie Shattuck of St. Johnsbury; paternal great-grandparents Caroline Kittredge of Danville, Jackie Larmay of Springfield, and Dean and Jane Austin of Concord; paternal great-great-grandmother Pauline Davio of St. Johnsbury; his aunt Shelby Kittredge of Passumpsic; and his uncle Jamie and his wife Melissa Shattuck of Concord. , 68, Bradford, died in a car accident. He was born Sept. 5, 1940, the son of Wanda (Champagne) and George C. Huntington. He graduated from Bradford Academy in 1958 having accomplished legendary feats in athletics, namely basketball. His high school career ended with leading his team to a Class L State Championship against Ludlow scoring over 40 points. He set a new state record with 47 points scored in one game. By the end of his career, he had yet another state record, having scored 1,935 points, a record that held for nearly 25 years. Mind you, this was back when the schedules were typically 14 games and play was with a running clock and no three point shots. He spent the coming years as follows: 1960-1962 - Played professional baseball for Milwaukee Braves; 1960-1964 - Plymouth State - B.S. in physical education; 1963 - Married his high school sweetheart Donna Drew of Piermont, N.H.; 1963-1965 - Lions Youth Sports; 1963-1967 - Played professional baseball Club, Coaticook, Quebec. Earned an MVP Award, and was the manager in 1964; 1965-1968 - Assistant Scout for St. Louis Cardinals; 1965-1968 - Assistant baseball coach Ball State University; 1964-1967 - Director of Health and Physical Education, Head Coach Varsity Basketball, Baseball, Soccer, Track & Field, Gymnastics for Orleans High School; 1967 - Director of Headstart for the Northeast Kingdom 1967-1968 - Ball State University - Graduate Assistance ship/ M.S. Physical Education; 1967 - 1972 - Assistant Professor/Head Coach Basketball and Baseball, Lyndon State College; 1972-2009 - His pilgrimage back to Bradford began during the time he was teaching and coaching at Lyndon State College. He would spend his weekends and holidays working and coaching Bradford Youths Sports in Bradford where he subsequently committed the rest of his life to raising his family, youth sports and to the growth of his beloved hometown. His passion for community service and business grew dramatically from his love to teach and help others. His business career started in Bradford when he purchased his first piece of property which he renovated and began running a residential care home for the elderly with his mother. There was nothing George loved more than spending time with his children and grandchildren. The void created by his absence will never be replaced. The hearts of all who knew him will forever ache. He is survived by his brothers Henry and Hollis Huntington; his four children, Ron and Randall Huntington, Jade and Jeff Strohm and her children Sydney, 7, and twins Rylee and Jordin, 23 months, and lastly, Jasmyn and Marc Monroe who will welcome another Huntington child in early August. Services will be held at Hales Funeral Home in Bradford. The viewing will be Friday, June 26, from 2 to 4 p.m., and 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be Saturday, June 27, at 11 a.m. in the Oxbow Gymnasium. Reception to follow at the Oxbow Cafeteria.

He was born Aug. 26, 1931, in St. Johnsbury, the son of the late Charles and Ruth (Briggs) Farrow. He married Charlotte Sorrell Nov. 26, 1955. Charlie was proud to have served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. He loved his antique cars, fishing, and gardening. He and Bill loved to boat and fish on Miles Pond and Lake Memphremagog. He is survived by his wife Charlotte; his four children, Linda Frechette and husband Philip of North Concord, Bill Farrow and wife Janet of North Concord, Sandy Wyman and husband Dan of North Yarmouth, Maine, and Angela Farrow of Johnstown, Colo.; his 10 grandchildren Jamin, Aaron, Shawna, and Lisa; Nicholas and Katrina; Aric and Ethan; Paige and Cortney; one great-grandchild, Jamin's son Cameron; brother Bill Farrow of Florida; half-brother Duke Valencourt and wife Sheila of Walpole, N.H..; nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Johnsbury Monday, June 29, at 10 a.m., at St. John the Evangelist Church. Charlotte's nephew, The Rev. James McKearney, will be the celebrant. Following the Mass, he will be cremated. Burial with military honors will be held the following day, Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours. , 73, of Highland Street, Woodsville, N.H., died at Cottage Hospital, Woodsville, on June 26, 2009, following an extended illness. Joe was born to Albert and Ethel (Wheelock) Hudson in East Thetford, Vt., on Oct. 5, 1935. He married Barbara Noyes on Oct. 17, 1959. Joe was employed by Adams Paper Company in Wells River, Vt., before working for 37 years for the former Newman, Davidson, and Tembec Lumber Companies in Woodsville. He later worked at Transit Milling, Wells River, for 41/2 years before retiring in December 2007. Joe was a former member of the Littleton Eagles and a former member and president of the Woodsville and Littleton Bowling leagues. He played in the men's softball league in Ryegate, Vt., and was an original organizer of the Mills Memorial Softball Field. He enjoyed playing cribbage at the American Legion. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Hudson. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Barbara, of Woodsville; a son, Michael Hudson and wife Emily of West Topsham, Vt.; three daughters, Karen Gingue and husband Bernard of St. Johnsbury, Vt., Joanne McClintock and husband William of Woodsville, and Donna Hudson of Pleasant Valley, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Kathleen "Kitty" Pollander of Bradford, Vt., and Velma Lamarre and husband Norman of Groton, Vt.; a brother, Ralph "Sonny" Hudson and Harriet Robinson of Littleton, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews. Sherward C. "John" Ingerson Jr.

, 58, of Concord, N.H., formerly of Jefferson, N.H., succumbed to cancer on Friday afternoon June 26, 2009, surrounded by his family, at the Concord Hospital. Mr. Ingerson was born in Jefferson, N.H., on April 24, 1951, the son of Sherward and Lillian (Reed) Ingerson Sr. A graduate of Berlin High School, he pursued a lifelong welding career as a member of Local 131, Plumbers and Steamfitters Assoc. His work led him to become a familiar face at the North Country paper mills, but he often traveled as a journeyman to southern New Hampshire and numerous other states. He also served for a time with the National Guard. Sherward, who was also known to many as "John, Sherty and Ingie" had many pastimes that included hunting, logging with horses, shooting pool with friends at local clubs, and touring on his Harley. He had a mischievous grin and was a good spirited prankster who will be missed by many. He is survived by his wife Glenna (Glidden) Ingerson, three sons Jonathan Ingerson of Dover, Benjamin Ingerson and his wife Koryn of Whitefield and Taylor Ingerson of Guildhall, Vt., four step-children, Carey Landry and her husband Eric of Lancaster, Ronald Beaulieu of Jefferson, Robert Beaulieu and his wife Sara of Lancaster and Brandy Farias and her husband Keith of Jefferson, several grandchildren and his siblings Burton Ingerson and his wife Jackie of Littleton, Ruth Gaudette of Groveton, Mary Gross of Jefferson and Carolyn Ingerson of Berlin. , 54, of Orleans, died peacefully on June 27, 2009, in Newport. For those who knew her, although her body gave out, her spirit remained strong to the very end. The courage and positive outlook she possessed her whole life carried all through her illness. She will be remembered for her kindness, honesty, integrity, compassion, strength and especially her smile. She was born Dec. 3, 1954, in Newport, a daughter of Donald and Dorothy (McGrath) Nault. On Aug. 2, 1985, she married David Blodgett who survives her. Mrs. Nault was a manager for the Vermont Dairy Herd Improvement Association. She ran the animal barnyard at the Barton Fair for many years. Mildred held membership with the 4-H Club and she took exchange students for seven years. She was an avid reader and loved family gatherings. She also enjoyed gardening and her cats and dogs. She is survived by her husband David Blodgett of Orleans; her host daughter Sully Orellana; her parents, Donald and Dorothy Nault of Newport Center; her brothers Forrest Nault and his wife Keely of Maryland, Vernon Nault of Newport Center; sisters, Ramona Nault and her husband Bob of Sutton, and Donna Lightly and her husband Steve of Penn; nieces and nephews Shawn, Elizabeth, Matthew, Jessica, Violet, Jeremy, Jesse, Cody, Dana, Shawna, and Layla; her in-laws Warren and Virginia Blodgett of Irasburg; sisters-in-law, Barbara Russell of Newport, Cathy Blodgett of Irasburg, Patty Tarbox and her husband Steve of Orleans, Shirley Moulton and her husband Dwight of Charleston; brothers-in-law Dennis Blodgett of Irasburg and Neil Blodgett and his wife Christine of Irasburg; nieces and nephews Jason, Nick, Chris, Corinne, Nicole, Neil, Ashley, Myah, Talon, and Max. On July 1, 2009, an open house will be from 1 to 4 p.m. with a celebration service at 4 p.m. at Mildred's home, 197 East Street, Orleans. , 70, of North Main Street, Barre, died Friday evening, June 12, 2009, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. Born July 30, 1938, in East Fletcher, he was the son of Leslie V. and Ardelle B. (Marcher) Smith. He attended Greensboro Bend and Walden Heights Elementary Schools and was a 1957 graduate of Danville High School. In October 1962, he married Shu-Lan Lai in Tai Pei, Tawain. They later divorced. A veteran of U.S. Navy service from 1957 to 1967, he had lived in Key West, Fla., May Port, Fla., Atlantic Beach, Fla., and Oregon and Washington States. In 1971, he returned to Vermont where he resided in Walden Heights, Hardwick, Wolcott, and Barre. Additionally, he had lived in Missouri. He was first employed as a Railroad Master for the St. Johnsbury and Lamoille County Railroad for 10 years. After moving to Missouri, he was employed as a Sheet Metal Worker. After nine years, he returned to Vermont and worked for the Cabot Creamery until his retirement. Model Railroading, hunting, fishing, hiking, and genealogy were his special interests. He had been active in the Greensboro Methodist Church and the churches in South Walden, Walden and West Danville. Survivors include his son, George Osbun of Coconut Creek, Fla.; two daughters, Sue Ramiah and Cindy Buhi both of Olympia, Wash.; three grandchildren; five brothers, Ralph Smith of Colorado, Douglas Smith of South Carolina, Gary Smith of Cabot, Vaughn Smith of East Ryegate, and Kevin Smith of New Hampshire; two sisters, Martha Alexander of Waterville and Linda Maberry of Missouri; an aunt, Beth Marcher of Jeffersonville; and several nephews, nieces, and cousins. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a brother, Harold Smith. A Graveside Service will be held Friday July, 3, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the South Walden Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
