, 87, of Cemetery Street, Lancaster, N.H., died Monday morning June 15, 2009, at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster. Mrs. Gainer was born in Jefferson, N.H., on Feb. 6, 1922, the daughter of Paul E. and Katherine (Gilles) Thayer. Betty was raised in Jefferson and has been a 58 year resident of Lancaster. She devoted her life as a homemaker, mother, and grandmother. She was a Communicant of All Saints Church, Lancaster. Family members include a son Michael Gainer of Lancaster; two daughters, Sharon Kenison, of Lunenburg, Patricia Gainer, Lancaster; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a brother Theodore Clukay of Jefferson. Her husband Ronald R. Gainer predeceased her in 1998. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday evening June 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday morning at 10 a.m. at All Saints Church, Lancaster. Rev. Raymond Ball, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lancaster. of St. Johnsbury passed away Oct. 18, 2008, in Ft. Collins, Colo., at the age of 94. She was born in Stanstead, Quebec, on May 4, 1914, and was the daughter of Clarence and Laura (Tilton) Libby. Her husband, William J. Brock, passed away Oct. 10, 1985. She had lived in the St. Johnsbury and Danville areas since 1930. Waver enjoyed her horses and was an active member of the St. Johnsbury Riding Club. A member of the Rebekahs and the Eastern Star, she was a homemaker until she started working at Maple Grove as a candy packer. She was always an avid knitter and donated many mittens, caps, and scarves to The Santa Fund for needy children. She moved out to Colorado for the first time in 2002 and made her home with David and Arlene until the summer of 2004. She missed St. Johnsbury and returned to be with her longtime friends; her last residence here was at the Colonial Apartments. For health reasons she returned to Colorado in Sept. of 2006 to stay with David and Arlene. She is survived by her son David W. Brock and his wife Arlene of Ft. Collins, CO (6731 Holyoke Ct. 80525); two grandchildren Sarah Sikorski and husband Steve of Warren, Mich., Gregory D. Brock and wife Nina of Detroit, Mich.; three great-grandchildren Mona, Kirk and Maria Leach; two brothers George Hopkins and wife Tess of Windsor Locks, Conn., Bickford C. Libby and wife Audrey of Orleans, Vt.; nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held Thursday, June 18, at 11 a.m., at the Danville Green Cemetery. The Rev. Douglas Carter will officiate. Cdr. George E. Everly

, of St. Johnsbury, passed away at his home on Coolidge Circle Monday morning, June 15, 2009, at the age of 91. He was born in Island, Ky., on July 17, 1917, the son of Cecil and Georgiana (Cullen) Everly. He graduated from The United States Naval Academy in Annapolis and was commissioned Feb. 7, 1941, completing submarine school in October of 1942. Cdr. Everly was commander of the submarine USS Bashaw. He received the Silver Star medal and medals from the following campaigns: European-African-Middle Eastern, Asiatic-Pacific (five stars), and Philippine Liberation. He also received the Navy Commendation and the Presidential Unit Citation. In his wife Esther's eyes he was an American hero. He served over 28 years in the United States Navy including his midshipman time at the US Naval Academy. After retirement from the Navy, he continued working as a systems analyst for the Navy in Washington DC, Newport, R.I., and New London, Conn. He married Esther Billion of Warwick, R.I. Dec. 12, 1976. The Everlys moved to St. Johnsbury in the early 1990s. He is survived by his wife Esther; two children Jeff Everly of Virginia and Judith Ann Donnelly and husband Mark of Australia; one granddaughter Destiny. He was predeceased by two other children J. Stowers and Thaddeus Everly. He is also survived by a brother Wayne Everly of Michigan; two sisters Ruth Nuckols and Garnett Pennington both of Kentucky; and nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by a brother-in-law, Arthur 'Mick' Billion. Funeral services will be held in St. Johnsbury Friday, June 19, at 11 a.m., at St. John the Evangelist Church. The Rev. Patrick Forman will officiate. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home Thursday evening 6 to p.m. In spite of his heroic service to his country, George remained very humble regarding that service. He will be buried with the highest military honors, short of those bestowed to an American President, later in the summer at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va. , 91, of 818 Old Center Road, St. Johnsbury, died unexpectedly at her home Thursday, May 14, with her constant companion Sophie the pug on her lap, after an extended illness. She was born in Jaffrey, N.H., on Christmas Eve, 1917. She was raised on a farm of beauty on Old Peterboro Road in Jaffrey. She attended school in Jaffrey and was a member of the graduating class of 1929 at Conant High in Jaffrey. Lillian had been a resident of Vermont since joining her husband Melvin in marriage May 31, 1941 and coming to Waterford as a new bride. She loved her family and never really retired, always willing to volunteer, and community service she did well for 35 active years, receiving the President's award in 2005 recognizing her many years of service to several organizations and agencies, NVRH being a favorite. In Lillian's younger adult years she was a member of the Passumpsic Valley Grange, the PTA and its President, and also the Passumpsic Home Dem, and the Passumpsic Card Players. She was a member of Notre Dame des Victoires Church in St. Johnsbury, and later a member of St. John the Evangelist Church and a member of its Church Council. Lillian always stood ready to help others. Her family who survive her include one daughter, Nancy Chouinard Cohen and her husband Elwood of 796 Old Center Road, St. Johnsbury; one son, Paul A. Chouinard and his wife Bernadette of P.O. Box 6, Danville; four grandchildren, Candace Cohen-Carter and her husband Thomas, Todd Cohen and his wife Stephanie, Elizabeth Levine, and Michael Chouinard and his wife Lindsey; seven great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons; nephews, nieces, god-children and special friends. Lillian was predeceased by her husband Melvin; her parents Marcel and Angeline LE'Toile; two brothers Orand and Raymond; two sisters Marie Beauvais and Beatrice Parker; and an identical twin granddaughter Constance Leigh Cohen. Marie Louise Begin

, 90, of Waterford, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at North Country Hospital in Newport Wednesday, June 17, 2009. For the past four months she had resided at Michaud Manor in Derby where she received wonderful care. She was born on Feb. 3, 1919, in Causapcal, Quebec, the 11th of 13 children born to Pierre and Marie-Anne (Rioux) Pelletier. On June 1, 1936, she married Antoine Begin at Notre Dame des Victories Church in St. Johnsbury; theirs was a double wedding with Eugene and Ursule Begin Hevey. She and Tony were married for 65 wonderful years. He passed away Feb. 2, 2002. Seventeen of those years they wintered in Ocala, Fla. Marie Louise continued spending winters there, returning home this past February when her health began to fail. Marie Louise's life was dedicated to her family and large extended family. Her home on Route 18 in Waterford was the site of numerous family celebrations. She cared for her in-laws, Leon and Roze-Hebelle Doyon, who lived with her for 43 years. She welcomed their combined 24 children into her home on numerous occasions, and all will remember the New Year's Days celebrations when she routinely fed over 100 relatives. Marie-Louise was a farm wife, with all its duties and responsibilities, including lending a helping hand with farm chores. She was almost as comfortable on a tractor as she was in the kitchen. She is survived by five children, Irene Fauteux and husband Aldei of Ocala Fla., Irena Boudreau of Richford Vt., Claire Hevey and husband Roger of Ocala, Fla., Ernest Begin and wife Vivi of Waterford, Annette Keach and husband Michael of Waterford; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two sisters Theresa Dansereau of Holyoke, Mass., and Evangeline Pelletier of Elizabeth, N.J.; three sisters-in-law, Rose-Theresa Prescott of Wolcott, Conn., Simone Doyon of Northfield, Vt., and Rita Pelletier of St. Johnsbury, Vt.; cousins, nieces and nephews and their families. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 20, at noon, at St. John the Evangelist Church. Burial will follow at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. , Danville, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, June 16, at her home in Danville. She was born the second daughter of Delmer and Gladys (MacDonald) Smith on Sept. 4, 1923, in Danville. She attended the former Phillips Academy in Danville and was one of the first to graduate from the new Danville High School. She also graduated from Burdette College in Boston, Mass. Janet had worked for the Vermont Department of Social Welfare for over 30 years, retiring as Office Manager in St. Johnsbury in 1985. Janet worked tirelessly in Danville wherever there was a need and served on multiple boards and committees. She was an active member of the Chamber of Commerce, Order of the Eastern Star, Danville Historical Society, Danville Green Cemetery Association Trustee, The Red Hat Society, Danville Congregational Church - UCC, Ladies Aid and The Open Door. She also volunteered at the Danville School and helped raise funds for the annual Thanksgiving dinner at Covenant House in New York City. Janet was a devoted fan of the Danville School sports teams and could frequently be found in the bleachers at the basketball games, cheering the teams on in her "lucky leather pants." Janet was married to Richard Wakefield in 1949. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard, and by her sister, Sarah Keene. She is survived by her son Stephen (Christine) Wakefield of Danville; grandchildren, Jessica of Oklahoma City, Okla., Zachary (Jenny Eckholdt) of Eagle River, Ark., Kate Brinkley (Joseph) of McKinleyville, Calif., and Eliza of Danville. A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, June 22, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Danville Congregational Church, followed by a graveside service at the Danville Green Cemetery. , 69, of Cortez, Fla., passed away Tuesday morning June 16, 2009, at her daughter's home in Guilford. Mrs. Zindel was born in Paramus, N.J., on June 30, 1939, the daughter of Arthur and Ruth Paret. She was raised in Fairlawn, N.J., and lived in Glastonbury and Avon, Conn., and later in Cortez, Fla. She spent summers at her lake home in West Barnet. Carol most loved being near the ocean and the lake. She was an avid golfer and a member of Bradenton Country Club in Florida. Carol volunteered with Meals on Wheels and Habitat for Humanity. She was a kind and loyal friend and devoted Mother and Grandmother. She is preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, William Zindel. She is survived by her companion of 12 years, Ronald Kilner of Cortez; son William Zindel of El Cerrito, Calif.; daughter Laura Lauterbach and grandson Wulff Lauterbach of Guilford; sister Jeane Devoure and niece Kim McMahon of Sidney, Maine; and nephews Bob Rayot, of Farmingdale, Maine, and Christopher Gross of Phoenix, Ariz. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 27, 2009, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Barnet Presbyterian Church, 278 Barnet Center Road, Barnet Vt., conducted by Reverend Dr. Dwight White. , 62, Littleton, N.H., passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on June 16, 2009, after a long battle with cancer. He was born Nov. 6, 1946, a son to Haralaneos and Matina Tricoulis, in Leonidio, Greece. In 1970, he left Greece and ventured to Montreal, Canada where he met his wife of 37 years, Vasiliki Baka Tricoulis. Together they moved to Lynn, Mass., where they opened a bakery and pastry shop. Demitrios has been a resident of Littleton since 1985. While living in Littleton he and his wife owned and operated Deluxe Donuts and later transitioned to Deluxe House of Pizza. Demitrios had a great love for the outdoors and was an avid hunter. He was a jack of all trades who deeply loved his family. Surviving him, in addition to his wife, are his two sons, Haralambos and Kosta Tricoulis of Littleton, his one daughter, Matina Tricoulis Fenoff, son in-law, Steven Thomas Fenoff and grandson, Aiden Thomas Fenoff, all of Littleton. A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 22, 2009, at the Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in Concord, N.H., at 11 a.m. with Fr. Michael Wilson as Celebrant. Interment prayers and burial will follow at the Glenwood Cemetery in Littleton.

, a Lyndonville resident passed away, Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at the Pines Health & Rehab. Center she was 88. Born Jan. 8, 1921, in Sydney, Cape Breton County, Nova Scotia, Canada. Daughter of the late Donald N. and Christine I. (Kennedy) MacLeod. She married LeRoy Ritter, he predeceased her June 15, 1989. Marguerite enjoyed entertaining, painting, playing the piano, singing, crafts, cooking and sewing. She was an active member of the Lyndonville United Methodist Church and former member of the South Congregational Church where she served as a deacon and choir member. She served four years as president of the Lyndon Women's Club, and led a hymn sing at The Pines for twelve years. She truly enjoyed being a caregiver to her best friend Betsy Yocum, prior to her death in February 2006. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 24, at noon at Pearsons Funeral Home, located at 70 Church St., Lyndonville. Calling Hours will begin at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in the Lyndon Center Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, George (285 Leswing Drive, Brick, N.J. 08723); daughter, Michaela; son, John; and three grandchildren. He was born in St. Johnsbury on Aug. 26, 1935, and was the son of Robert and Julia (Bruce) Harpin. He is survived by his wife Pauline and their son Paul L. Harpin (PO Box 828, Lyndonville VT 05851); two sons by previous marriage, John Harpin, of Putney, and Mark Harpin and wife Debbie, of East St. Johnsbury and their extended family; step-son Welcome DeGreenia; step-daughter Cindy Mason; Welcome's daughter Maggie Corkins; Cindy's children Terry Mason, Welcome Mason, Megan Mason and Megan's boyfriend Benjamin Stevens; as well as cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Roberta Harran. Funeral services will be held this Saturday, June 27, at 2 p.m., at the East Barnet Church. The pastor, the Rev. John Tremblay, will officiate. , 82, beloved wife of Gerald passed away in Newport on June 23, 2009. She was one of four children born to H. Victor and Helen (Davio) Ellsworth on Sept. 6, 1926, in Newport. Lillian worked for several of the area chain stores when they were still in Newport. Lillian was a member of the Morning Star Rebecca Lodge for several years. Mrs. Dickerman enjoyed playing solitaire, watching her soap operas, cross sticking, bowling and was a very active member of her church and its youth activities programs and the women's Tuxis Club. Lillian and Gerry enjoyed taking bus tours for several years. She was always ready and willing to give a helping hand whenever she could, including baking home made dishes. Mrs. Dickerman is survived by her husband Gerald; her son Richard and his wife Edna of Indiana; her daughter Vickie and her husband Vanoy Counts of Florida; grandchildren Andrew Dickerman of Indiana, Patricia and her husband Daniel Sonnier of Washington, and Robert and his wife Amamda Counts of Texas; great-grandchildren Sarah Sonnier of Washington and Nathaniel Counts of Texas; also by several nieces, nephews, and many friends of the Newport Baptist Church. She was predeceased by her brother Glenn and sisters Marguerite Currier and Betty Simpson. , 56, of Dorsey Road, Dalton, N.H., died at his home on Monday, June 22, in the presence of his family. He was born Nov. 30, 1952, in Concord, Vt., the second son of Marjorie (Pilotte) and Ronald White. He was a lifetime resident of the Dalton area, graduating from White Mountains Regional High School in 1970. He served three years in the Army, with one year overseas in Korea. During his years in the military, he was married to his wife of 37 years Cynthia Rae (Stevens). Rodney began his own business, Transit Truck Repair, which successfully served the community for over 23 years. Most recently he worked as shop foreman at McDevitt Trucks in Lancaster, N.H. Rodney built a reputation of character and integrity, and was well known in the area as an expert diesel mechanic. He loved his work and always tried to come to the aid of a trucker who "needed to go." Rodney was a man with many interests and not enough time to do them all. Spending time with his family, kayaking, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, snowmobiling and traveling. He was an active member of the local snowmobile club, the "sno kings," helping with cutting and grooming trails. Each November friends and family looked forward to scallops collected from the bottom of the Piscataqua River while scuba diving in Portsmouth, N.H. Rodney was a long time member of the Whitefield Advent Christian Church, where he served in many ways over the years. He was also very involved with Mexican Medical Missions, and served on several mission trips as a team leader. Rodney had a zest for life, and people. He was a quiet behind the scenes presence always willing to help anyone in need. He is survived by his wife Cindy; his son Camden, daughter-in-law Kelly, and a granddaughter that he was very proud of Lanee Rae, who was born on July 8, 2008; his parents Ronald and Marjorie White; and siblings Jerry White, Cheryl Merrill, Joel White, Lauren White and Adam White. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 25, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster, N.H. A funeral service will take place Friday, at 1 p.m., at the McIntyre School.
