Joe was born to Albert and Ethel (Wheelock) Hudson in East Thetford, VT, on October 5, 1935. He married Barbara Noyes on October 17, 1959. Joe was employed by Adams Paper Company in Wells River, VT, before working for 37 years for the former Newman, Davidson, and Tembec Lumber Companies in Woodsville. He later worked at Transit Milling, Wells River, for 4 years before retiring in December 2007. Joe was a former member of the Littleton Eagles and a former member and president of the Woodsville and Littleton Bowling leagues. He played in the men s softball league in Ryegate, VT and was an original organizer of the Mills Memorial Softball Field. He enjoyed playing cribbage at the American Legion. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Hudson. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Barbara, of Woodsville; a son, Michael Hudson and wife Emily of West Topsham, VT; three daughters, Karen Gingue and husband Bernard of St. Johnsbury, VT, Joanne McClintock and husband William of Woodsville, and Donna Hudson of Pleasant Valley, NY; 13 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; two sisters, Kathleen Kitty Pollander of Bradford, VT and Velma Lamarre and husband Norman of Groton, VT; a brother, Ralph Sonny Hudson and Harriet Robinson of Littleton, NH; and several nieces and nephews. She was born in Peacham, VT, June 10, 1939, a daughter of Kenneth E. and Margaret (Muzzey) Paye, Sr. Marilyn graduated from McIndoe Falls Academy and Goddard College. She married Richard C. Wheeler on January 1, 1981. She formerly worked for various organizations that benefited people in need. Marilyn enjoyed handwork, doing different crafts, reading, gardening, and extensive traveling throughout the United States. Most important to Marilyn was the time she spent with her children and grandchildren. She was proud to have been a single mother of six children while putting herself through Goddard College and graduating with a major in English and a minor in History. She was predeceased by her mother, Margaret (Muzzey) Paye on November 18, 1979; a step mother, Madeline (Hale) Paye on September 27, 2004; three brothers, Dennis Paye, Leonard Paye, and Kenneth E. Paye, Jr. Survivors include her husband, Richard C. Wheeler of Northfield, VT; her children, Steven W. Nutter and wife Rose of Barre, VT, Stanley A. Nutter of Barre, Kevin Nutter of Barre, Frank W. Nutter of Barre, Donna M. Nutter of Bristol, CT, and Amy L. Sweeney and husband Timothy of Northfield, VT; five stepchildren; her former son in law, Timothy J. Krauss of Bristol, CT; her father, Kenneth E. Barbara (Howland) Jones
....show , 102, of Central Street, died on Sunday, July 12, 2009, at her residence following a brief illness. She was born in Bath, NH, September 16, 1906, the daughter of Martin W. and Clara M. (Marston) Howland. Barbara graduated from Woodsville High School at the age of 16 with the Class of 1923. She went on to the Plymouth Normal School (the present Plymouth State University) in 1926. Barbara married Anthony Kinsley Tony Jones on October 28, 1928. Barbara had taught at all of the one room school houses in Haverhill, Bath, Glencliff, and Easton before her retirement from Woodsville Elementary School in 1976. She was also the school librarian and had worked summers in the Woodsville Public Library. She was instrumental in the establishment of the Dewey Decimal System in the town library in the late 1940 s and early 1950 s. She was a member of the Woodsville United Methodist Church, joining the church on May 7, 1950. Barbara was a member of the Cottage Hospital Auxilary and Retired Teachers Association. She joined the Mt. Gardner Grange and later the Pine Grove Grange in Bath, Woodsville Progressive Club, and a Lioness with the Cohase Lions Club. She enjoyed gardening, baking, and taking long rides. Barbara loved to recall old stories told by parents and grandparents. She had an extraordinary memory of people and events. Family was very important to Barbara, especially her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great - great granddaughter. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years Anthony Kinsley Tony Jones on April 16, 1991; a daughter, Betty Guay on May 29, 2004; a son in law, Rodney Guay on December 8, 2001; a sister, Phyllis (Howland) Coates; and a brother, Martin Howland. Survivors include three daughters, Margery Jones of Woodsville, Barbara McKay and husband Murray of Goffstown, NH, Carol Bontos and husband George of Lynn, MA; a son, Colonel Richard Jones (U.S.A.F. Retired) and wife Diane (Eastman) of North Hampton, NH; 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. William F. (Bill) Koch Jr.
....show , 83, of Haverhill, N.H. died July 15, 2009 at DHMC following failing health. Born in Haverhill, N.H., he is the son of William Koch Sr. and Lillie Koch. He graduated from Haverhill Academy and enlisted in the Army Air Force as a navigator, after the war participated in flying two bombers, wing to wing, under the Golden Gate Bridge. At the end of World War II he entered the University of New Hampshire on the GI Bill and graduated in 1950 with a degree in Forestry. Bill worked for several years in Haverhill, N.H. with his father, William Koch Sr., crafting and producing the Koch recorder, a woodwind musical instrument. Later, he moved to Milford, N.H. and worked as a manufacturing engineer at Sanders Associates in Nashua, N.H. On his retirement he moved back to Haverhill to be near his family. He enjoyed spending time at Lake Armington in Piermont, N.H. where as a young man, built a camp to enjoy with family and friends. He also enjoyed amateur photography, ham radio operating, hiking and volunteering in the town of Haverhill Fire Department and supervising the repair and status of the town water supply.. He is survived by his wife, Mary Campbell, a brother, John G. Koch, of White River Junction, Vt.; His children, Margaret Koch with John Perham of North Hampton, N.H., Thomas Palmer and wife Joanne of Barrington, N.H., Suzanne George and husband Mike of Dover, N.H. and Richard Koch and wife Gloria of Nashua, N.H.; stepsons, Dana King and wife Brenda of Essex, MA, Steven King of Essex, MA, many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be affectionately remembered by his friends, Mary's caretakers, Tina Fellows and her family. Donald and Clara Morton (Ford) Ross. He retired in 1974 from the Boston & Maine Railroad as a conductor and yardmaster in White River Junction, VT. During World War II he worked in the South Portland, ME shipyard. Cecil was a member of the First Congregational Church of Newbury, Pulaski Lodge # 58 F&AM of Wells River, VT, Mt. Sinai Shrine Temple of Montpelier, VT, and the Clan Ross Association of the United States. He was an avid golfer and for many years was a member of the Bradford Golf Club. He married the former Arline Booth on March 1, 1936, in Lewiston, ME. Survivors include his wife of 73 years Arline; a daughter, Patricia R. VanWagoner of Epping, NH, and a son, Stephen B. Ross and wife Virginia of South Ryegate, VT; five grandsons, David E. VanLuven and wife Isabelle Bleecker, Mark C. VanLuven, Jeremy M. Ross and wife Carrie, Timothy A. ....show , 61, died on Wednesday, August 5, 2009, at his residence on Swiftwater Road. Jim was born in Lubbock, Texas, June 18, 1948, the son of James Miller and Mollie (Davis) Halsey. He graduated from Monterey High School in Lubbock, Texas. He received his BA from Texas Tech University and his MA from Villanova University. He married Pamela Stavley on November 20, 1971. Jim and Pam lived in Northern Virginia for 20 years prior to moving to Woodsville in 2005 to fulfill a life long dream of living in New England. Jim loved the history and natural environment around New England. He loved to travel and visit historical sites and museums. He had a passion for hiking and sightseeing throughout New England. He worked as a technical writer for Microdata GIS in St. Johnsbury, VT and retired from EDS in Virginia. He was predeceased by his father, James Miller Halsey. Survivors include his mother, Mollie Halsey of Lubbock, TX; his wife of 37 years, Pamela Halsey of Woodsville, NH; two sons, Jordan Halsey of Fairfax, VA and Brendan Halsey and wife Vanessa of Fairfax, VA; two grandchildren, Kaylie and Patrick Halsey also of Fairfax; a brother, Mike Halsey and wife Mary of Stockbridge, GA; two nieces, four nephews, one aunt, and cousins. He previously had worked as a lift operator at Stowe; however, most recently owned his own lawn care business. Roland has lived in Groton for the past 27 years. He married Mary (Fortin) on October 25, 2003. Survivors include his wife Mary of Groton, three children Laurie Haskins of East Haven, VT, Pam Haskins and Ray Haskins both of New York; two step children DeeDee Bourtelle and husband Dave of North Carolina; and Alex Grenier and wife Crystal of West Charleston, VT; several grandchildren, including two special grandchildren Kyle Bourtelle and Kasey Ainsworth. Marion s first husband, Fred Rockwood died in 1963, and she then married Harlan Bud Keniston on August 6, 1966. Marion worked for nearly 40 years at the former Northeast Square and Dowel in North Haverhill. She was predeceased by her husband Fred Rockwood; her siblings, Madeline M. Gilmore, Katherine Young, Bruce LaVoice, and Dale LaVoice. Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Harlan Bud Keniston of North Haverhill; two sons, Dale Rockwood of Byfield, MA and David Rockwood of Alton, NH; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. ....show died peacefully at home in Portland, OR, on August 20th, 2009. She was born August 7th, 1954, in North Haverhill, daughter to Fay and Joan (Caverhill) Wright. She attended Warren Village School and Plymouth and Woodsville High Schools. She married Richard D. Clark of Wentworth, Nov. 27th, 1970, and moved to Portland, OR in 1975. She was a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and Friend. She enjoyed spending time with family, nature, her animals, and crafts. She was a dedicated homemaker and cared very much for others. Her strength, spirit, and positive attitude throughout her struggle with lung cancer were an inspiration to all that knew her. She was predeceased by her father, Fay Wright in 1984, her mother, Joan Wright in 2008, and her brother Lawrence Wright in 2007. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Richard Clark, her four daughters-Julie Smith, Jean Newhouse, Holly Martinez, and Crystal Cummins, of Portland; Her Brother Lewis Wright of Damascus, OR, her sisters Emily Clark and Cheryl Wright, both of Warren. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Wendy was a graduate of Lisbon High School, Class of 1989, and from the University of New Hampshire School of Nursing in 1992. She was employed at Exeter Hospital while attending the University of New England in Biddeford, ME. She graduated in 2003 as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. For the past six years, she has been employed at the Elliott Hospital in Manchester, NH as a CRNA. Wendy played basketball while attending Lisbon High School. An avid outdoorswoman, she participated in competitive runs up Mt. Washington and hiked the White Mountains and in National Parks across America. She had successfully hiked all 48 of the 4000 foot peaks in New Hampshire. Wendy was dedicated to her nieces and nephews and was affectionately known as Summi . She is survived by her parents, David and Patricia Towle of Landaff; two sisters, Beth Miller Clark and husband William of Landaff, NH and Dawn Nelson and husband Ted of North Haverhill, NH; and her nieces and nephews, Justin Miller and Billy D. ....show , 85, formerly of Newbury, VT, passed away peacefully at her daughter s home, surrounded by her family, on August 23, 2009. She was born in Norwood, MA, December 17, 1923, the daughter of Owen E. and Caroline L. (Miller) Jones. Helen worked at the Wrentham State School in Wrentham, MA, as a caretaker for the mentally ill. She lived in Canton, MA most of her life. In her later years, Helen moved to Newbury, VT to be near two of her daughters, Joan Feid and Suzanne Bradway and her grandchildren. She loved the rural setting of Newbury, and for many years did volunteer work for the Senior Companion Organization. Helen was dedicated to helping other people. Helen was a life long member of the Eastern Star and served as Past Worthy Matron of the Blue Hill Lodge Eastern Star in Canton and as a member of the Corinthian Chapter #42 of the Eastern Star in Wells River, VT. She was also a former member of the Newbury Sunshine Committee, and Orange East Senior Citizen s of Bradford, VT. In 2003, Helen moved to South Hadley to be near her daughter, Linda Lewis and her other grandchildren. Helen loved all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was passionate about her pets, fed many stray cats, and was involved with and donated money to the Humane Society. She was an avid reader but also enjoyed her daily soap opera. Helen was predeceased by her husband John H. Dalton in April 1961, and two brothers Owen E. Jones and George M. Jones. Survivors include her three daughters Joan Ellen Feid and husband Dale K. of East Haverhill, NH; Linda Rae Lewis and husband Richard of South Hadley, MA; and Suzanne Lillian Bradway of South Daytona Beach, FL. Helen had a strong bond with her daughters and will be greatly missed. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren; Brandon John Feid and wife Andrea and their daughter Alieke of Plainfield, NH, Richard Lewis, Jr. and wife Maureen and their children Isabelle and Jenny of Longmeadow, MA, Heather Lewis and her partner Mindy of Enfield, CT, and Jill Ellen Carroll and husband, Gene and their children Travis Bradway-Rothwell and Antonia Carroll of Port Orange, FL; a brother Robert Rae Jones of Carver, MA; and her cousin, Marion Cooke of Dennisport, MA. She was born in Whitefield, NH, on May 8, 1916, a daughter of Charles Edgar and Bessie (Hall) Lewis and graduated Whitefield High School, Class of 1934. She had been a nurses aid during her working career, retiring in 1981 from the Merrimack County Nursing Home. She left the Haverhill area in 1989, first moving to Farmington, later to Kingston and most recently she has been a resident at the Rockingham County Nursing Home in Brentwood. Isabelle was predeceased by her husband George Ramsey on December 27, 1988, a sister Lona Perkins, and two brothers William and Elwin Lewis. Survivors include her daughter Eleanor Martin of Kingston, three grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be no calling hours. ....show , 51, of Macks Mt. Road, died Monday, August 31, 2009, from injuries in a motorcycle accident in Westmore, VT. Robert was born in St. Johnsbury, VT, on June 23, 1958, the son of Albert and Marilyn (Hagen) Petrie. He was a graduate of Danville High School, Class of 1976. Rob worked for 29 years at Weidmann Electrical Technologies in St. Johnsbury. While working at Weidmann, he worked as a multi-skilled technician for the business and worked different shifts when needed. Rob was an avid outdoorsman enjoying fishing, hunting, animals, and wildlife. He had enjoyed weightlifting and golfing. He was a very thoughtful and generous man who liked giving his time and energy to others. Robert s family encompassed a large circle of very close friends in addition to his immediate family. His time spent with each one was golden. Motorcycling was an important passion in his life. He was a member of the Harley Owners Group and the Iron Warriors power lifting group in Lyndonville, VT. For several years he participated in the Toys for Tots motorcycle run. Rob also liked to tell stories and jokes with his dry sense of humor. He was predeceased by his father, Albert Petrie Sr. on October 6, 1991, and his father in law Oscar Larose. She was born in St. Johnsbury, VT, on July 13, 1927, the daughter of Carl Oscar and Emma Sophia (Johnson) Johnson. She graduated from Peacham Academy, Class of 1945. Vera married Joseph Laural Roy on August 19, 1945. Vera and her husband Joe operated the MacLeroy Farm in West Barnet, VT. This family dairy farm has been in the Roy Family since 1785. She is a 63 year member of the Presbyterian Church of Barnet at West Barnet, where she has held numerous offices and positions, and also a member of the Lakeview Grange. She was also involved with the West Barnet Fall Foliage activities and the Goodwillie House. Vera conceived the idea of and worked to establish Ye Olde Church Store in West Barnet. She was an active member of the Peacham Academy Alumni Association. She was always a reliable community resource by making sure her neighbors and friends had a ride to their appointments, and assisting them within their homes. She was predeceased by her brother, Ralph Johnson. Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Joseph Laural Roy of West Barnet; her children, Patricia L. R. Willey and husband Duane of West Barnet, Bruce L. Roy and wife Catherine of West Barnet, Joanne R. Temple and husband David of East Burke, VT, Robert P. Roy and wife Sandy of West Barnet, and Dianne L. Roy of Rutland, VT; special family member and caregiver, Janet Locke of West Barnet; two sisters, Miriam Hatch of West Barnet and twin sister Verna Varnum and husband James of Peacham, VT; 19 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, several step great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ernest Leo Trimble
....show , 79, of Old Bay View Road died Friday, September 4, 2009 at his home. He was born in Elkton, MD, July 16, 1930, the son of the late Harry Lawson and the late Harriet Amelia (Davis) Trimble. He married his wife, the former Doris Marie Taylor on Feb. 11, 1956. He graduated from North East High School, class of 1948, and following graduation enlisted in the U. S. Navy. He served aboard the USS Midway prior to his discharge in 1949, and was placed on inactive reserve. He went to work for Delaware Power & Light and later worked at the Bainbridge Post Office. He was recalled to active naval duty and served aboard the seaplane tender USS Greenwich Bay AVP-41, from 1952 to 1953. Upon this discharge he worked at the hosiery mill in Elkton before returning to the post office as a letter carrier in Wilmington and Marshallton, DE, retiring on June 1, 1987 from the North East Post Office. Ernie later went to work for eight years at the Petro Truck Stop in Elkton, finally retiring in 1995. He has enjoyed his lawn care and gardening over the years, skiing in New Hampshire and Vermont, as well as attending Navy reunions of the Greenwich Bay. Ernie attended the Zion, MD United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife Doris (Taylor) Trimble of Bay View; a daughter Melissa A. Gould and husband Bryan of Woodsville, NH, and two grandsons Scott T. and Kyle B. Gould, both of Woodsville, NH. The funeral service will be held Friday, September 11, 2009 at12:00 Noon at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, where visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday evening, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Velma Louise (Emery) Holden
....show , born November 12, 1919, died September 11, 2009 at her home in Haverhill, surrounded by her family. Velma was the 4th daughter of Fay Sargeant Emery and Gladys (Chesley) Emery, born at the family farm on Indian Pond Road in Piermont, NH. She graduated Valedictorian from Orford High School in 1937; she then attended Bay Path College graduating with highest honors in 1939. She began employment as an Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent at the Brattleboro Retreat and worked there until 1948. In Brattleboro she met her future husband Stanley Frederick Holden. In 1940 they were separated by World War II with him returning from the Pacific in 1945. They were joined in matrimony at the Brattleboro Congregational Church on July 14, 1946. Together they had three children, Sandra Faye, Susan Faith, and Stanley Frederick Holden. In 1949 they moved to Court Street in Haverhill to open the Haverhill General Store and Velma continued to live on the same street for the next 60 years. In 1958 they also purchased the Warren General Store which Velma was the manager and operator of until her retirement in 1982. There she enjoyed the friendship of so many Warren and Wentworth residents. On November 1, 1973, Stanley passed away and in 1980 she reacquainted with Cecil Bean, a high school friend. Together they shared the next 25 years, until Cecil s passing on July 15, 2005. Velma stood for excellence in all that she did. She was a generous, gentle, and loving mother and grandmother, and an excellent cook. She loved to travel and enjoyed many trips with family both at home and abroad. She was accomplished in cross-stitch and enjoyed the arts, especially music. Velma was also predeceased by three sisters, Bernice Pierson, Erma Kurtz, and Christie Emery. She is survived by her three children Sandy Holden Knapp and husband Dexter, Susan Faith Holden, and Toot Holden all of Haverhill, her sister Margery Manning of North Haverhill, grandsons Hubbel and Jaben Knapp, granddaughters Kara Holden Erb and husband Josh, and Ashley Holden, sisters-in-law Beulah Holden of Burke, VT and Ruth Holden Wells of Brattleboro, many nieces, nephews. She will always be remembered as a life well lived by her adoring family and pets Machiach and Muffet Thunder. There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be held on September 26th, at 10:30 AM at the First Congregational Church of Haverhill, UCC. Interment services will follow the church service at Ladd Street Cemetery, Haverhill. A gathering of family and friends for a luncheon will follow the cemetery service at Alumni Hall, Court Street, Haverhill. John Thomas Jack Shafer
....show , 87, died on Friday, September 18, 2009, at the Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, NH. Jack was born in Chatham, NJ, January 26, 1922, the son of Burton and Rotha (Thomas) Shafer. He served with the U. S. Army from October 1942 to December 1945, during World War II. Jack married Jeanette A. Vanderhoff on August 29, 1942. He worked most of his life as a telephone installer for New Jersey Bell. When Jack and Jeanette moved to Monroe, NH, he worked locally for T. Borden Walker Enterprises in Woodsville, NH. He also drove school bus for the Town of Monroe for several years. Jack was a life member of the Ammonoosuc Fish and Game Club in Swiftwater, where he taught hunter safety courses. He was a life member of the NRA. In addition to hunting, he was an avid fisherman. He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Jeanette A. Shafer on February 8, 2001. Survivors include his two sons, John Tom Shafer of Derby Line, VT and Scott D. Shafer (Debra Brown) of St. Johnsbury, VT; a sister, Doris Coddington of Florida; a brother, David Shafer of Lancaster, PA; a grandson, Anthony Shafer of St. Johnsbury, VT; four great grandchildren, Christian and Angelina Shafer of Littleton, NH and Daisy and Riley Shafer of St. Johnsbury, VT; and several nieces and nephews. ....show , 77, of Woodsville Road, died at Littleton Regional Hospital on September 24, 2009. Wendel was born in Twin Mountain, NH on December 23, 1931, to Archie N. and Rose L. (Childs) Glines. He was a graduate of the Twin Mountain High School Class of 1950, then served in the US Air Force from February 1952 through February 1956. He married Barbara Sanborn on March 1, 1958. Wendel worked as a New Hampshire Department of Transportation Highway Patrol Foreman in Crawford Notch and Littleton before retiring from the North Haverhill shed on April 1, 1994. As a student in Twin Mountain, Wendel was a standout on the basketball and baseball teams. He also had a passion for archery and was a former state champion. He enjoyed hunting and snowmobiling. He was an ardent Boston Red Sox and New York Giants fan. Wendel loved dogs and enjoyed their companionship. He was predeceased by his twin brother Kendel and brother Arthur Glines and his sister Ruth Roe. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara Glines of Monroe; his son Steven Glines and wife Melody of Littleton and their children Travis, Kristen, and Lindsey; his daughter Dawna Summers and husband Steven of Granger, IN and their children Leela B., Calla, and Hanna; his sister Diana Hendricks of Riverside, CA; two uncles, Stanley and Herbert Glines; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. ....show , 92, formerly of Perkins Place, died at Hanover Terrace Health Care on September 26, 2009. Ethel was born in Lyman, NH on February 4, 1917, to Stephen and Alice (Lewis) Trevena. She was a 1936 graduate of Lisbon High School. On June 12, 1937, she married Walter M. Campbell. Over the years, Ethel worked at Hovey s Department Store in Woodsville, was the receptionist and billing clerk for Jock Oil, and worked at Cottage Hospital. Caring for her family, however, was her main priority. She was also a former member of the Woodsville Universalist Church. She was a passionate Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins, and Patriots fan. She was predeceased by her husband Walter on October 31, 1988; a grandson Steven Diaz on October 21, 1994; her two sisters Florence Stimpson in October 1956 and Katherine Berry on October 20, 1997; and her brother Lawrence Trevena in 1978. She is survived by her two daughters Betty Campbell of East Thetford, VT, and her companion Dennis Chase of Bath, NH, and Doris Shockley and husband Edward of Lewes, DE; three grandchildren, Sandee Robinson and husband Gary of Thetford, VT and their daughter Shelby, Mike Ingerson of Houston, TX and his son Kevin of Virginia, Shawn Ingerson and wife Donna of Cockeysville, MD and their children Greg and Elizabeth, and several nieces and nephews. Chester was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, May 31, 1917, the son of Chester Holden Oliver Sr. and Gertrude Cookman Oliver. Chester graduated from English High School in Lynn in 1936, going on to a 2 year degree at Wentworth Institute, before joining the United States Air Force in 1942. He became a ballturret gunner on the flying fortress bombers, flying 51 missions over Europe. Upon leaving the service Chester went on to a 4 year degree in Electrical Engineering, working at GTE Products in Ipswich and Danverse, Massachusetts until retirement. Chester married Kathleen C. Luce in September of 1944 in Rapid City, South Dakota. They leave 5 children, Shirley Rutherford of Appache Jct, AZ, Donna of Florida, Dorothy Oliver of Appache Jct, Bernice Bernard of Endicott, NY, and Chester H. Oliver, III of California. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren and several great grandchildren, a brother, Edward Franklin Oliver, of South Carolina. Several nieces, nephews, and a cousin. A graveside service in the spring of 2010 for Chester, will be in the family lot in the Bradford Cemetery, Bradford, VT. A notice will be published at that time with the service dates and times.

Army from September 1942 to October 1944, with Battery B Field Artillery Battalion at Camp McCain, Mississippi. He married Elizabeth V. Dupuis on August 8, 1945. Robert formerly worked at area lumber mills and at the former Grafton County Courthouse and Haverhill Town Offices. He always enjoyed outdoor sports, cross country skiing, hunting, and fishing. He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth Dupuis Bailey on September 18, 2004; a daughter, Rae Alice Bailey on January 15, 2000; a sister, Eleanor Bailey; and two brothers, Kenneth Bailey and Richard Bailey. Survivors include three children, Robert W. Bags Bailey and wife Patricia of Woodsville, Richard Doc Bailey of Barnet, VT, and Deborah E. She was born in Portland, ME, January 31, 1942, the daughter of Fred and Catherine (Loring) Cavanaugh. Pat graduated from Cathedral High School in Portland, ME, Class of 1960. She went on to Maine School of Practical Nursing, Class of 1962. During her nursing career she worked at Maine Medical Center, St. Mary s in Rochester, NY, Wooster Community Hospital and Akron City Hospital in Ohio. She worked 22 years at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital, retiring in 2003. She married Gordon Goss on April 12, 1969. She was a loving wife, mother, grammie, daughter, sister, aunt, and loved to be around family and friends. Always ready to lend a helping hand. Pat as a child loved spending time in Long Island, ME and summers with Papa and the Baron Sisters. She was devoted to her friends and family, especially her two grandsons, Brady and her best friend Ezra. She was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Catherine Cavanaugh; her grandfather, Papa Martin Cavanaugh; and Aunt Margaret Mary McCallum.
