, beloved son of Maurice and Geraldine (Gracie) Duguay, of St. Johnsbury died Thursday, July 9, 2009, at the age of 60. He was born in St. Johnsbury on July 28, 1948. He graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1966 and the University of Vermont in 1970. He lived for over 30 years in Burlington and worked during that time at Tortilla Flats, the Rotisserie, and Burlington Electric. After retirement from Burlington Electric, he returned to the St. Johnsbury area and worked at Aubuchon Hardware. He is survived by his mother Geraldine of St. Johnsbury; four sisters, Nancy Duguay and husband Richard Swanson of Williston, Mary Profetto of Alabama, Theresa Duguay of St. Johnsbury, and Anita Reak and husband Brian of Milton; uncles and aunts, Richard Gracie, Susan Dugan, Pauline Collins, and Patricia Rutherford; several cousins including Steven Gracie, who was like a brother to him; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; close family friends Michele Laberge and Bruno Ravel; and longtime friend Rick Long. He was predeceased by his father, Maurice Duguay, on Nov. 9, 2001. Joe was a man of many interests. Widely read, he enjoyed philosophical discussions. His great love of the outdoors was developed as a child when he spent many happy hours fishing and hunting with his father, activities he continued into his adult life. Joe felt a strong spiritual connection to the outdoors. He especially enjoyed hiking and camping in Victory Bog. He was looking forward to hiking the Grand Canyon with his brother-in-law Dick. Joe also enjoyed running. A talented guitar player, he loved music and shared that love of music with his nephews and nieces, teaching some of them to play guitar and taking others to their first rock concerts. He also played for many years in a band with some of his friends in the Burlington area. On Tuesday, July 14, at 11 a.m., a committal service will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery on St. John's Street. Immediately following, a celebration of Joe's life will be held next to the cemetery, outside at the family home, 30 Centerview Terrace, St. Johnsbury. Anyone wishing to attend is welcome. Joe was involved with the Special Olympics as a volunteer for many years. , 70, passed away Sunday, July 12, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., surrounded by her family. She was born in Hardwick, Vt., July 19, 1938, the daughter of Ethel (Hall) and Earl Larrabee Sr. She graduated from Hardwick Academy in 1956 and was married to Lionel "Red" Brochu on Oct. 20, 1956, in Hardwick. She worked for a time at the Charlemont Restaurant in Morrisville before moving to White River Jct. in 1978, where she lived until moving to Quail Hollow in West Lebanon, N.H., only days before her death. She worked at several Grand Union stores in the Upper Valley area as a deli manager. Shirley was a member of St. Anthony's Church in White River Jct. She was an excellent cook, hostess and homemaker. She loved to play bingo. She is predeceased by her parents and four brothers Lawrence, Earl, Robert and James who died May 5, 2009 She is survived by her husband Lionel "Red" Brochu of West Lebanon; a son William Brochu and his wife Lori of Springfield, Mass.; a daughter Susan Plummer and her husband Doug of White River Jct.; five grandsons Christopher, Jonathon and Matthew Hamilton and Nathan and Sean Plummer; a sister Patricia Larrabee; three brothers Richard Larrabee and wife Terri, Dennis Larrabee and wife Betty, Garey Larrabee and his wife Jane; four sisters-in-law Dorothy and Irene Larrabee, Pauline Martin, Jeanette and Darlene Brochu; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony's Church in White River Jct. Committal services will be held on Thursday at 3 p.m. in the Fairview Cemetery in Hardwick.

, known as "Mack," died at his East Concord home Sunday, July 12, 2009. He was born in Concord on June 26, 1928, the son of Alfred and Hepsibeth (Miltimore) McPherson. His wife Myrtle (Blodgett) McPherson passed away Nov. 30, 1997. Mack worked for Gilman Paper Co. for 52 years and was a steam plant operator. He was a great Laker and Yankee fan for which he took a great deal of ribbing from his family; they will always remember placing a Celtics emblem on his car bumper (LOL!). He enjoyed hunting, golf, "The Price Is Right!," and playing solitaire. It was special for him to travel with the Concord High School girl's basketball team; he was their biggest fan! He is survived by son Raymond McPherson and wife Patricia of Lunenburg; daughter Dianna McPherson of East Concord; three grandchildren: Heather Ann, Di, and Megan; five great-grandchildren: Tyrone, William, and Tiesha; Mason and Chase. , 77, of Concord, passed away suddenly at home Monday, July 13, 2009. He was born in Marion, Ind., on Nov. 3, 1931, the son of Richard and Elsie (Ackley) Genth. He was a retired firefighter for the City of Elkhart, Ind., where he had 27 years of service. On Oct. 16, 1999, he married Carol Bona Patridge. For the past 11 years, Bobby had very happily made his home with Carol east of Concord village having always lived in the city. Since he was 15, Bobby was a pigeon fancier and nurtured homing pigeon lofts wherever he lived - in Indiana, Florida and Vermont. He is survived by his wife Carol; two sons Kevin Genth and wife Janelle of Galena, Ohio, and Todd Genth of Elkhart Ind.; one step-son Matthew Humphrey and wife Sarah of Bradenton, Fla.; his sister Eileen Workinger and husband Stanley of Borden, Ind.; nieces and nephews; four step-daughters, Cynthia Gaboriault and husband Mitchell of Goffstown, N.H., Laura Fortier and husband Keith of Monroe, N.H., Deborah Smith and husband Dale of New Boston, N.H., and Janice Trottier and husband Scott of St. Johnsbury; 23 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and his former wife and the mother of his sons, Marilyn Brown of Elkhart, Ind. He was predeceased by his son Rick and his brother Richard. Funeral services will be held in East St. Johnsbury, Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Third Congregational Church. The pastor, the Rev. Ann Hockridge, will officiate. Visiting hours will be held at the church beginning at 11:30 a.m. until the start of the service. Cremation will follow the service with family committal services the next day at the North Concord Cemetery. , 66, of Victory, died Monday morning July 13, 2009, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Aug. 18, 1942, in Stafford Springs, Conn., the son of Edwin and Elsie (Sensor) Shepard. Following his schooling he entered the US Navy. Glenn worked for Davenport Building Co. in South Yarmouth, Mass., for 20 years working as a carpenter and then construction superintendent. In 1989 he moved to Victory, Vt., enjoying the quiet country living with is golden retrievers and his wife Carole. After becoming settled in Vermont, Glenn worked for Kennametal (formerly Tap & Die, Co.) in Lyndonville where he was a parts inspector. He was also on the medical F.A.S.T. Team there. He retired in 2005 after thirteen years of service. Glenn engineered and set up Kingdom Brewery of which he was the owner and brewer for several years here. He loved being in the woods, hunting, fishing, taking in the beauty of the North East Kingdom, and was an avid reader. Most of all he loved his family. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, and the Tom Breslin Center of Lyndonville. Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Carole (Huskins) Shepard of Victory (P.O. Box 305, East Burke, VT 05832); two sons, Glenn Shepard Jr. and his wife Sara of Cape Cod, Mass., and Benjiman Shepard of Arizona; a daughter, Debbie Willet of Connecticut; five grandchildren; his father, Edwin Shepard of Indiana; a sister, Joni Orwick and husband Phil of Indiana; his two canine companions, Pumpkin Boy, and Bailey; nieces; nephews; and many good friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Elsie Shepard; and a brother, Richard Shepard. Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. , of Danville, passed away Monday, July 13, 2009. She had resided at the Greensboro Nursing Home for the past 10 years. She was born in St. Johnsbury on March 14, 1918, and was the only child of Arthur and Addie Sanborn. She did, however, come to have a sister, Alice Sanborn, who was welcomed into the Sanborn family at about the age of six. She was predeceased by Alice, her son David in 1997 and grandson Dickie Vance in 1983. Luella worked at The Pope Library where she became a certified librarian. She retired from The Caledonia National Bank in 1982 where she worked for 18 years as a proof reader. Luella was a private caregiver for many elderly people in the Danville/St. Johnsbury area. She had the opportunity to visit all 50 states, most of the Canadian provinces, and several of the European countries. She always made it a point to have family gatherings. Luella was a vibrant person who loved all kinds of dancing. She also loved to read. She is survived by three children Ann Vance and husband Richard of North Danville, Charles Kirker and wife Coral of Milton, and Sharon Daniell and husband Gary of Danville; daughter-in-law Linda Kirker of Georgia, Vt.; former daughter-in-laws Susan and Sherry; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at the Danville Green Cemetery Friday, July 17, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Douglas Carter will officiate. A reception will follow downstairs at the Danville Congregational Church. , 84, Inverness, Fla., died Tuesday, July 14, 2009, surrounded by his loving family and Hospice of Citrus County. Wendell was born March 6, 1925, in Hardwick, Vt., to the late Ernes and Ruth (Cochran) Dimick and came to this area in 1980 from East Hardwick. He served our country in the United States Navy on submarine duty. Wendell was a mail carrier in the State of Vermont. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Inverness. His survivors include his wife of 53 years, Norma Dimick, Inverness; two sons, Jon Dimick, Napanoch, N.Y., and Barry and wife Melody Dimick, Deland, Fla.; three daughters, Judy and husband Clay McClamrock, Mocksville, N.C., Donna and husband Bill Guevremont, Richland, Mo., and Lisa and husband Jerry Gilbert, Inverness; two brothers, Pete and wife Helen Dimick, East Hardwick, and Ronnie and wife Bobbi Dimick, Brooksville, Fla.; sister Karlene Dixon, N.J.; and 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. , 89, beloved husband of Rose, passed away in Newport on Friday July 17, 2009. He was born April 21, 1920, in Barton, a son of Willie and Parmelie (Perron) Desmarais. He and Rose were married in 1943 and farmed in Irasburg and West Glover for over 15 years. Rio then worked for Hank Sanders, Puss Royer and Andy Bonneau as a farm equipment salesman. He then opened his own business, Desmarais Farm Equipment in Orleans until he sold it to his sons, however he continued to help his sons. He and his wife enjoyed traveling where they spent winters in Florida. He loved his family and delighted in having conversations with them and his friends. He was a man who enjoyed life and always had a smile on his face. Besides his wife, he is survived by his sons: Roger Desmarais and his wife Maureen and Rene Desmarais and his wife Kathy; grandchildren: Andre Desmarais and and his wife Kim of Barton, Cynthia Kelley and her husband John of Palm Coast, Fla., Jacqueline Desmarais of Waltham, Mass, Jennifer Bashar and her husband Greg of Trumble, Conn.; eight great-grandchildren, a sister Juliette Leduc of Lyndonville. He was predeceased by two brothers, Roland and O'Neil Desmarais, and by two sisters, Simone and Corrine. There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday July 22, 2009, at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Orleans with the Rev. Sixmund Nyabenda celebrating a Mass of Christian burial. , 86, of St. Johnsbury, passed away on July 18, 2009, at the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehab Center. She was born on April 23, 1923, in Kingsbury, Quebec, to Andre and Corrine(Lussier) Champigny. Marie was predeceased by her husband, Jean Louis Gaboriault, on Jan. 12, 1999. She leaves four sons and one daughter: Jean Claude Gaboriault and wife Cecile of Barton, Solange "Sally" George and husband Ken of Cicero, N.Y., Joseph R. Gaboriault of St. Johnsbury, Laurent G. Gaboriault and wife Valerie of Sheffield, David Gaboriault of East Haven. She also leaves nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews; one brother George Champigny and wife Carmen of Richmond, Quebec; her brother-in-law Paul Gaboriault and his wife Martine; sisters-in-law Madeline Gaboriault, Cecile Brouillette, Madeline Leroux, Gaby Rehaume and husband Andre, Therese Bourbonnais and husband Andre. She was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and the Golden Age Club. She enjoyed sewing for family and friends and was known as "Memere" by her many friends and neighbors. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, July 22, at St. John the Evangelist Church. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
