He was born November 14, 1960 in Brattleboro, the son of the late Clinton “Joe” & Mary (Adams) Peters. Tim was employed at Blue Seal Feeds in Richford for the past several years. He was formerly employed at Fonda Container in St. Albans and Sweat & Comings in Richford. Tim enjoyed hunting, listening to bluegrass music and his annual week at Halloween Havoc. Most of all he loved to spend time with his family. First and foremost Tim was a family man. He was a loving husband and father. He is survived by the love of his life and wife, Kelli (Fletcher) Peters of Richford; his children, Amanda Peters, Amy Jo Peters, and Ben Peters and his girlfriend Mary Greenan all of Richford; his sisters, Linda Greenwood and her husband Shayne of Richford, and Lori Williams of Berkshire; Step-Father, Robert Peterson of Sheldon; mother-in-law & father-in-law, Lynn “Buster” & Jo Fletcher of Richford; brothers-in-law, Aaron Fletcher and his wife Vicki of Richford, Jody Fletcher and his wife Kelly of Richford, sister-in-law, Hailey Jewett and her partner Jamie Latimer of Fairfax; Special cousin, Dan Gilbeau of Stratton; special friend John Boylan of Richford; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends; his favorite hunting dog, Jay “The Legend”. ....show , age 89, passed away Sunday November 2, 2008 at the Brome Missisquoi Perkins Hospital in Cowansville. He was born August 13, 1919 in Trois Pistoles, Quebec Canada the son of the late Joseph & Zelma (Rioux) Theriault. Raymond was a resident of Cowansville for the past 33 years. He was a former resident of Brattleboro, VT where he worked at a saw mill and also Richford, VT where he operated a dairy farm as well as worked as a hired hand at other area dairy farms. He also was a heavy equipment operator for 8 years at the James Bay power project. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 2610 of All Saints Parish in Richford. He enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, hooking rugs, carving model sleighs and working with leather specializing in making horse harnesses. He is survived by his wife, Georgett (Parent) Benoit – Theriault of Cowansville. They were married January 27, 1968. He is also survived by his step-children, Pierre Benoit and his wife Betty of Franklin, VT, Sue Selby and her husband John of Greenville, NC, and Ginette Pigeon and her husband Donald of Fairfax, VT; a daughter-in-law, Madeleine Benoit of Berkshire, VT; 10 step grandchildren and 15 step great-grandchildren; his siblings and their spouses, Roland & Deliema Theriault of Dunham, Que., Jeanette Pelepier of St. Guy, Que., Romeo & Dorothy Theriault of Bloomfield, CT, Dorothy Dancause of New Brunswick, Marie Marth & Robert Brouillette of Sheldon, VT, John Mark Theriault of Dunham, Que., Irene Marie Theriault of Frelighsburg, Que.; sister-in-law, Lise Theriault of St. Jean, Que.; several nieces and nephews. She was born December 3, 1925 in Enosburgh the daughter of the late Henry & Linnie (Benoit) Duso. Helen had been a resident of Green Mountain Nursing Home since February of 2008. She was a former resident East Hartford, CT where she had been employed at Pratt & Whitney retiring in 1975. Following her retirement she moved back to Vermont living in Richmond & Williston. She also spent many summers fishing at her camp on Lake Carmi in Franklin as well as at her brother’s camp at Lake Winnipesauke in New Hampshire. She enjoyed working as a volunteer for the United Way RSVP Program. She also enjoyed taking rides especially in the fall. She is survived by 1 son, Gene LaFountain and his wife Jackie of St. Albans; 3 daughters, Joyce Combs of Williston, Norma Amsden and her husband Mark, and Dorothy Madore and her husband Thomas all of Lady Lake, FL; 9 Grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; a brother, Jack Duso of Chatham, NY; a sister, Pearl Sterling and her husband Wayne of Kenner, LA; several nieces and nephews. She was born April 9, 1922 in Bakersfield the daughter of the late Fred & Belle (Lafley) Jacobs. She was a resident of Enosburg Falls most of her life. She took pride in being a homemaker and raising her family. Upon Raymond’s retirement from Fruitland in 1980 they moved Deland, FL residing there until she moved back to Enosburg Falls in 2004. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and the Ladies of St. Ann’s. She enjoyed playing golf, reading, crossword puzzles, knitting and crocheting. She is survived by 2 sons, Larry Duffy and his wife Olivia of Milton, and James Duffy of Barre; 3 daughters and their husbands, Joan & David Magnant of Williston, Donna & Raymond Magnant of Enosburg Falls, and Patricia & Stewart Hammond of Montgomery Center; 13 grandchildren, 18 Great-Grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Teresa Duffy of Burlington; several nieces and nephews. Montgomery Center - Stanley Sinclair Gillis
....show Tuesday evening, November 4th, while in the comfort of his home and surrounded by his loving family and precious cats Taz and Tilly, Stanley left his loved ones behind to build a new home in heaven for his beloved Lorraine. He was born on June 18, 1927, a mere 81 years ago in Eastport, Maine the son of Eleanor and John Gillis, who have predeceased him. He was brother to George, Allan, Arnold, Mildred, Betty and Eleanor. He is survived by his two sisters Eleanor and Mildred whom he loved dearly. During World War II he fibbed about his age and at 16 he joined the United States Merchant Marines where he served for two years delivering ammunition to the troops around the world. When he turned 18 he was then inducted into the U.S. Air Force and served his country for three years until, in December of 1948, he was discharged with the rank of Corporal. During that time he fell in love with a beautiful young woman named Lorraine Lumbra whom he married and was devoted to for 60 wonderful years. Together they made her birthplace of Montgomery Center their home. When Stanley wasn’t working on his Little Fruit Farm, he loved to work in his garden or workshop, strum his guitar or paint. He had many hobbies and loved to share his interests with his family and friends. He had an insatiable curiosity and loved to learn new things every day of his life. Stanley and Lorraine gave life to nine children who then gave them 25 grandchildren and they in turned gave them the gift of 24 great-grandchildren with a 25th expected. Home and family were his greatest treasures and he felt like the richest man in the world because of it. Although he himself is gone, his seed will spread for eternity and he shall forever remain in our hearts. Stanley leaves behind his beloved Lorraine, his children Christine Clapper and her husband Michael, Linda St. Cyr and her husband Oscar, Suzanne Berkson and her husband Sidney, Joanne Deaette and her husband Gary, John Gillis and his love Sharon Martell, Francine Roy and her love Jim Feldhousen, Mary Vaillancourt and her husband Pierre, Mark Gillis and his wife Ginny, Jan McAllister and her husband Randy, his many grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews, loving extended family and friends, and of course Taz and Tilly. ....show , age 76, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, November 13, 2008. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Lorraine E. (Brunelli) Navaroli, who passed away February 15, 2006, at the couple’s home. Tony was born November 16, 1931 in Clinton, MA, the son of the late Zachary & Alina (Villa) Navaroli. He graduated early from Clinton (MA) High School before attending Clark University in Worcester, MA, as a pre-med student. He married his wife Lorraine, a native of Waterbury, CT, on November 19, 1955. They moved to Ohio shortly thereafter and eventually settled in Beavercreek, OH. Tony spent nearly 30 years as a public health administrator with the Greene County (OH) Health Department in Xenia, OH. He played a major role in helping that community recover from a devastating tornado in April 1974. He earned numerous professional awards during a distinguished career in the field of public health before retiring to Vermont in 1988. Tony greatly enjoyed country walks with Lorraine before her passing, working in his garden, tending his home and land, woodworking, talking to his ham radio friends and spending time with his grandchildren every summer. He is survived by his son, Randy Navaroli of Sheldon, VT; his grandchildren, Ryan Navaroli of Athens, OH; Lauren Navaroli of El Paso, TX, and Zachary Navaroli of Sheldon, VT; a sister and her husband, Stella & Domenic Tresaloni of Leominster, MA; 3 sisters-in-law and their husbands, Joan & Francis Guzzardi of Waterbury, CT, Patricia & James Walsh of Oakville, CT, and Gloria Brunelli of Oakville, CT, the wife of his late brother-in-law Louis Brunelli; a brother-in-law, John Brunelli Jr., of Oakville, CT; several nieces and nephews; and his dog Rudy. ....show , age 72, passed away Saturday evening November 15, 2008 at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington following a short battle with cancer. He was born December 6, 1935 in Sawyerville, Quebec Canada the son of the late Lucien & Alida (Nadeau) Landry. Frenchy moved to Richford with his family in 1947. In 1955 he joined the United States Air Force serving proudly for 22 years with time served during Vietnam, receiving an honorable discharge with the rank of Master Sergeant and was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal. Following his military career he settled in Montgomery Center where he was a self-employed carpenter having built many beautiful homes in the Montgomery / Jay area. He enjoyed golfing, gardening and had a love of good food. He also enjoyed spending his winters in Florida. He is survived by his daughter and her husband, Michelle & John Novakoski; 3 granddaughters, Brooke, Bailey & Brenna all of Dunbarton, NH; his sisters and their husbands, Cecile & Ralph Demers of Enosburg Falls, and Therese & Gaston Begnoche of Montgomery Center; several nieces and nephews. She was born December 31, 1943 in North Troy the daughter of the late Clifton & Margaret (Burnor) Combs and grew up on a farm on Bear Mountain in Troy Caroline’s various places of employment were at Gilman’s 5 & 10 in Richford, Northland Hockey Stick Factory in Richford as supervisor, Sewing Factory in Enosburg, Johnson Woolen Mill in Johnson, and many area dairy farms with her first husband Raymond Wright. Caroline was an avid seamstress and enjoyed to go to yard sales and rummage sales. She loved to spend time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Roy Rivers of Richford. They were married on September 16, 1995. She is also survived by her children, Raymond Wright Jr. and his wife Mary of Bristol, Caroline (Wright) Elkins and her husband Lyndol Jr. of Berkshire, Herbert Wright of Richford; Tammy Gutierrez and her husband Adrian of Paris, TN, John Rivers of Richford, and Jamie Rivers of So. ENOSBURG FALLS – Albany “Bunny” Gregoire, Jr.
....show , age 84, passed away Tuesday evening November 18, 2008 at the Northwestern Medical Center with his loving family at his side. He was born in East Fairfield on November 26, 1923 the son of the late Albany & Mary (Young) Gregoire. In 1949 he married Lucille Boylan. She predeceased him in 1996 as well as their son Francis “Frank” Gregoire in 1990. Bunny was a resident of the East Fairfield / Enosburg area most of his life. He owned and operated a dairy farm in East Fairfield until the mid 1960’s. He then moved to Enosburg where he owned and operated Gregoire’s Sawmill from 1966 to 1985. During this time he also logged, dealt in scrap metal which he hauled to Montreal, and raised pigs. He enjoyed operating his many bulldozers. He was known for being a wheeler / dealer and collector of many things and always had a knack for having something unusual that people were looking for. Bunny enjoyed visiting with people, working in his garden, and playing cards. In his earlier years he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and going to auctions. Most of all he loved spending time with his family. ....show , age 91, passed away Wednesday morning November 19, 2008 at the Brownway Residence in Enosburg Falls with her loving family at her side. She was born August 2, 1917 in Montgomery the daughter of the late Charles & Betty (Lumbra) Foote. Beulah grew up in Montgomery (West Hill). She married Floyd Jewett on October 15, 1932, he passed away in 1978. Beulah worked for many years in Connecticut as a machine operator at Alpine Electronics and retired in 1980 at which point she moved back to Vermont. She then married J. Watson Messier in 1981 and he passed away in 1985. Beulah & Watson enjoyed many happy years at their home. She truly enjoyed all of her grandchildren and their families. She was young at heart and always welcomed anyone into her home where you had to have coffee or tea and something to eat. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Floyd F. RICHFORD – George W. LeClair, Jr.
....show , 67, a resident of Mullen Avenue in Richford died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, November 25, surrounded by his loving family. George was born on May 25, 1941 in East Berkshire, the son of George W. and Muriel (Minckler) LeClair. He attended school in Berkshire Center and was married to Arlene Hoague on January 15, 1962. George had worked as a farmer, truck driver, logger, mechanic and carpenter throughout his lifetime. He leaves a large number of family members and friends and will be greatly missed by all of them. He was born in Englewood, NJ on June 13, 1914 the son of the late William & Lillian (Biermanoski) Markowski. He moved to Enosburg Falls in 1988 to be closer to his sister. He was a former resident of New Jersey where he was employed as a postal worker in Englewood for 23 years and owned Mark’s Delicatessen in Dumont for 3 years. He also lived in Laurens, New York where he worked as a school and charter bus driver for 20 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII serving as a chief gunners mate on the USS Seneca. He was a 41 year member of the American Legion, and past commander of Post 1688 in Laurens, NY. He is survived by a niece and 3 nephews and their families, Marion & Russell Schofield of Mahwah, NJ, John & James Vogel of Venice, FL, and Edward Vogel of Dumont, NJ.; and his many friends at the Brownway Residence whom the family is very much thankful for the friendship provided to Seslof over the years. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife, Edna (Kahl) Markowski in 1987; 2 sisters, Nellie Vogel, and Virginia Sumner and her husband George. Rodney was born on May 12, 1954 in Burlington, the son of Rudolph and Lena (Bigue) Wood. Most recently, he had worked as a driver for Network Transit in Franklin County. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed hunting with his boys, fishing with his brothers, watching baseball, especially his favorite Red Sox, playing horseshoes and bowling. He bowled on the B&D Bowling Team. ....show , 69, a resident of Central Street in Sheldon passed away on Tuesday afternoon, December 2, 2008 at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington surrounded by his family. David was born on September 4, 1939 in Sheldon the son of Earl and Julia (Tatro) Reed. He had resided all of his life in the home where he was born. David was a lifelong farmer and sugar maker. He was an honorary member of the Vermont Beagle Club and had produced an international champion beagle. He had also served as a judge for many international beagle trials. David’s favorite pastimes were running his dogs, deer hunting, fishing, sugaring and being on the farm. Most of all, he loved his family. His grandchildren were the light of his life and brought him so much joy, love and laughter. These countless memories will always be with his family and never be forgotten. He was born September 7, 1929 in Richford the son of the late Olin W. & Dorothy (Combs) Fletcher. Dub was a resident of Richford most of his life. He was employed at H. K. Webster (Blue Seal Feeds) for over 40 years and was also employed as a janitor during same time at the Franklin Lamoille Bank in Richford. He was a U. S. Army veteran during the Korean War, being honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal. He was a former member of the American Legion Post 12 of Richford. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, carpentry work and spending time at his camp on Lake Carmi. He is survived by his wife, Betty (Grandshaw) Fletcher of Richford; his son Paul Fletcher and his wife Louise of Richford; his grandson, Chief Petty Officer Joel Fletcher his wife Elizabeth and their daughter Elissa Ann Terry all of Jacksonville, FL; his granddaughter, Elyssa Fletcher and her companion Eli Gubuzda of Montgomery; his sister, Lucille Robtoy of Franklin; several nieces and nephews. Marion was born in Sheldon on March 19, 1925, the daughter of Leo T. Sr. and Elizabeth “Libby” (Cross) West. She attended the one room school on Rice Hill in Sheldon and Franklin High School. She was married to Donald Teague who died in February of 1977. Active in Legion and VFW Auxiliary activities, Marion was a Past President of Unit 88 American Legion Auxiliary in Sheldon Springs and Past President of Vermont Department of American Legion Auxiliary. She was also a lifetime member of Unit One Legion Auxiliary and a member of the VFW Auxiliary, both in St. Albans. Marion was an avid bingo player, enjoyed horseshoes, cookouts, playing poker, cooking, baking and, especially, The Celtics and Boston Red Sox. She was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Sheldon. George was born on December 27, 1951 in St. Albans, the son of Maurice P. and Theresa (Belanger) Roy. He was a graduate of North Country Technical School in Newport. George worked for his father, Maurice for many years as a carpenter and master electrician. He later was employed by several electrical firms in Chittenden County that contracted most of their work at IBM. For the past 10 years George had been self employed. He was a former member of the IBEW. George enjoyed fishing, playing guitar, drawing, woodworking, barbecuing and was especially willing to help his family. George is survived by his mother Theresa Roy of St. Albans; his daughter Rita Mead and her husband E.J. of Georgia, VT; a sister Rachel Roy of East Berkshire; a brother Andre Roy and his wife Becky of Westford and their children, Anais, Patrick and Alexander. George’s father, Maurice, died on September 9, 1998. He was born in Johnson on September 18, 1925 the son of the late Eugene & Ila (Cushing) Rivers. He was a resident of Richford most of his life and was employed at Blue Seal Feeds for 36 years retiring in 1987. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and was a life member of the American Legion Post # 12 of Richford. He was also a member of the V.F.W. and a life member of the National Rifle Association. Alden was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed his time spent at deer camp in Montgomery and always looked forward to hunting, trapping & fishing. He was also an avid gun collector. He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Dudley) Rivers of Richford. Alden & Margaret were married on March 30, 1946. He is also survived by a son, Stephen Rivers and his wife Mary Ann of Fairfax; a daughter, Julie Rivers and her husband Harry Mashtare of Swanton; daughters-in-law, Marilyn Rivers of Richford, and Linda Rivers of Panama City, FL; his grandchildren, Chad, Kristie, Jennifer, Tim, Carrie, Uriah, Sarah & Irene; his great grandchildren, Chelsea, Mackenzie, Morgan, Madalyn, Jacey, Alan, Katelyn, Jaden, Dylan, Olivia, and Matthew; several nieces and nephews. He was born September 13, 1934 in West Burke, VT the youngest son of the late Raymond J. & Margaret C. (Bushaw) McFarland of Enosburg Falls. He graduated from Enosburg Falls High School in 1953, where he enjoyed playing basketball and baseball with school teams. He also played for the Enosburg Legion baseball team. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps with time served during the Korean conflict as a Special Weapons Instructor, and later in the Military Police. He was honorably discharged in 1956. In 1958, Hugh moved to Connecticut where he met and married his wife of 45 years, the former Marian Smith of Milford, CT. He was employed at Carpenter Technology Corporation, Bridgeport, CT, retiring in 1988 after 28 years of service. Besides his devoted wife, Marian, he is survived by his loving son, Terry P. McFarland of Ansonia, CT; his loving daughter Lorrie Ann, and son-in-law, Michael Driscoll of Seymour, CT; two wonderful loving grandsons, Colin & Ryan Driscoll of Seymour, CT. He was born June 27, 1921 in Schenectady, NY the son of the late, Robert & Agnes (Corrigan) Egan. Donald was a U. S. Army Veteran from 1942 to 1945 during WWII receiving an honorable discharge with the rank of PFC. Following his discharge from the service he worked as a salesman for McNearney’s Distributors in Schenectady, NY. He then became the vice president and eventually president of Thriftway Supermarkets in Scotia & Burnt Hills, NY. Following his years at Thriftway he went back to McNearney’s for a brief time and then was an administrative assistant for the Trustco Bank in Schenectady. Donald was an accomplished drummer and continued to love big band music and jazz through his life. Throughout his life he was known as a welcoming host, successful businessman, storyteller, musician and most of all a dedicated husband and patient, loving father and grandfather. His family and friends will miss him. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Patricia (Stachnik) Egan of Richford, VT. They were married January 13, 1951. He is also survived by a daughter, Carol Egan and her husband, Andrew Fettig of North Hero; his grandchildren, Erin, Thomas, Annie & Isabel; step grandchildren, Drew, Carter & Ruston Fettig; his dear sister-in-law, Elsie Egan of Schenectady, NY; and his nephew who he was godfather to, Bobby Egan & his niece, Katie Egan. Fred was a life long resident of Montgomery and was a member of St. Isidore’s Catholic Church and the Catholic Order of Foresters. He was also a member and past president of the St. Isidore’s Cemetery Association. Fred was employed at GAF Corporation in Lowell for 24 years retiring in 1977. Fred enjoyed watching baseball, especially the Boston Red Sox. He always said there were 2 fans, a Red Sox fan and anyone who rooted against the Yankee’s. He enjoyed playing cards and dominos and going to and holding yard sales. Fred cherished the time he spent with his family and loved to watch his grandchildren play sports and other activities. She was born August 22, 1923 in Belvidere the daughter of the late Harry & Lucy (Fletcher) Cox Betty was a 1941 graduate of Brigham Academy. She first started working for the U.S. Bobbin Mill and then went to Parker & Stearns in Johnson as their bookkeeper for many years. She was very active in the community and was a member of the Enosburg Falls United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary Post #42, the former LVIS, the Main Street Cemetery Association and the Enosburgh Center Cemetery Association. One of her greatest enjoyments was traveling with Bob throughout New England and keeping the books at horse pulling contests. She is survived by her husband Robert W. Fletcher of Enosburg Falls. They were married August 17, 1946. She is also survived by a son, William Fletcher and his wife Deborah Greenwood Fletcher of Enosburg Falls & Vero Beach, FL; a granddaughter, Kelly Barnier her husband John and their children, Tyler, Nicholas & Audrey of Swanton; her sister, Amy Bromley of West Springfield, MA; brothers-in-law, Gordon “Pete” Fletcher and his wife Catherine of Enosburg, Wendell Fletcher of Swanton, and Roy Fletcher and his wife Carol of Enosburg; a sister-in-law, Ruth Brouillette and her husband Albert of Honeybrook, PA; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Betty was predeceased by 2 brothers, Byron & James Cox; and a sister Irene Liimatainen. A memorial service will be held Wednesday December 31, 2008 at 2:00 PM at the Enosburg Falls United Methodist Church with Pastor Jon Bly officiating. Interment will take place next spring in the Enosburgh Center Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours. EAST BERKSHIRE – Joyce Marcy
....show , age 81, widow of Ethan Marcy, passed away Tuesday morning December 30, 2008 at the Franklin County Rehab Facility in St. Albans. Joyce was born December 22, 1927 in Enosburgh the daughter of the late Frank & Ila (Greenia) Longley. Joyce was a lifelong resident of Enosburgh and Berkshire. She farmed along with her husband Ethan until his passing in1971 at which time she continued to farm until 1974 when she sold the farm. She then held various jobs from a hot lunch cook and janitor at Enosburg Falls High School, cooked and cleaned at the Dairy Center and finally delivering newspapers for the St. Albans Messenger from East Sheldon to Montgomery retiring in 1995. She was considered “Mom” to all. She enjoyed word search puzzles, playing solitaire, her birds, watching deer from her back window, going to lawn sales and watching Survivor. Most of all she loved her family and the time spent with her grandchildren. She is survived by 3 sons and their wives, Russell & Betty Marcy of Richford, Donny & Linda Marcy of Richford, David & Caroline Marcy of So. Richford; 3 daughters and their husbands, Evelyn & Wayne Jewett of Enosburg Falls, Barbara & Pete Dezotelle of Johnson, and Sally & Yves Brunelle of East Berkshire; 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; her sisters-in-law, Eldora Longley of Windsor, Bernice Longley of Johnson, Beatrice Longe and her husband William of Berkshire, and Gladys Dolan and her husband Robert of Williamstown; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband Joyce was predeceased by her brothers, Clarence, Thayer, Raymond, Merl, Leonard, and Cedric & Charles Longley; her sisters, Blanche Malone, Beatrice Malone, Hildred Greenwood, & Eunice Messier. Funeral services will be held Saturday January 3, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls with Pastor Patrick Hoadley officiating. ENOSBURG FALLS – Charles Elbridge Colburn
....show - Charley, age 68, passed away unexpectedly on December 30, 2008. He was born February 21, 1940 in Greensboro, VT. He married Brenda Mayo nearly 47 years ago, on January 13, 1962. She survives him, along with their children, Tammie & Michel Consejo of Sheldon; Kimberley & Daniel Melhuish of Bakersfield; Stephanie & Kevin Eddy of Milton; Jeffrey & Susan Colburn of Enosburg Falls; and Danielle Colburn of Burlington; and grandchildren, Joshua & Kate Larose; Sherry Larose & Benjamin Gorton; Jeremiah, Michelle, & Deborah Melhuish; Fletcher & Johanna Eddy; and Joshua Gervais & Bradyn Colburn. Charley was predeceased by his parents, Stanley and Alice (Logan) and his sister, Betty. He is survived by his sisters and brothers, Richard Colburn and his fiancée, Joyce Bordo of St. Albans; Albert John & Pamela Colburn of Enosburg Falls; Donald & Lynn Colburn of New Hampshire; Virginia & Bruce Davis of Richford; Barbara & Richard Latimer of Burlington; and Colleen & Michael Naylor of New Mexico. He is also survived by his in-laws, Harvey & Jean Mayo of St. Albans; Suzanne Richard of Milton; and Harmon & Janet Mayo of Bakersfield. Charley was also blessed to have numerous nieces and nephews who loved coming to Uncle Charley's and Aunt Brenda's home; it was always filled with kids of all ages. He served our country in the U.S. Air Force, after which he returned to Enosburg Falls to raise his family. Charley was such a generous man to so many people, especially children, the elderly, and anyone who needed a helping hand or a hot meal. In addition to working at IBM, he enjoyed visiting with his customers immensely, whether at the store, or by mowing lawns, or selling pumpkins and apples in his front yard. He found great joy in providing free creemees to hundreds of young baseball players every year after each home game, even the opposing teams. Charley's Quick Stop was a destination. He had a special kinship with animals as well, and would regularly bring home stray pets to join the family. He also enjoyed fishing, bowling, horseshoes and golfing, but most of all enjoyed spending time with his family firing up the grill and listening to the Yankees on the radio. If you knew Charley, you also know that while he was so generous to others, he was a humble man and did not want others to make a fuss over him. He wanted us to keep everything simple. To honor his wishes, there were no calling hours. His funeral took place on Friday, January 2 at 11:00 a.m. at the Enosburg Falls Methodist Church, where four generations of the Colburn family have worshipped and been married, baptized, and bid farewell. Immediately following the service will be a light lunch at the church. From there, the family will spend some private time to complete his wishes. SOUTH FRANKLIN – Mary E. Larose
....show , age 96, widow of Raymond Larose, passed away Wednesday morning December 31, 2008 at the St. Albans Health & Rehab facility in St. Albans. She was born September 4, 1912 in Bakersfield the daughter of the late Gordon & Eva (LaFountain) Marshia. Mary was a resident of South Franklin since 1945. She was employed at the Franklin Central School as a teacher’s aide for many years. Mary enjoyed being a homemaker as well as gardening & knitting. She is survived by her son, Raymond “Sonny” Larose, Jr. of South Franklin; her daughter Jeanette Rutherford Hagerstown, MD; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; her sister, Florence Nolan of Enosburg Falls; several nieces and nephews including a special niece, Henke Green of Enosburg Falls. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Raymond Larose in 1983; a grandson, Terrance Larose in 1999; a daughter-in-law, Sheila Larose in 2007, and a son-in-law, Carl Rutherford in 2001. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon January 4, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls with Pastor Patrick Hoadley officiating. Interment will be at the East Franklin Cemetery in the spring. There will be no visiting hours.
