, 80, of Irasburg died April 27, 2008, in Newport. Mrs. Wheeler was born March 22, 1928, in Milan, New Hampshire, a daughter of Earl and Ozilda Regina (Prive) Dunn. On March 13, 1969, she married Gordon Wheeler, who predeceased her. She owned and operated a concession stand at fairs in several states. She held memberships with the American Legion Post 21 Auxiliary in Newport and Pamona Grange in Coventry. She enjoyed knitting, playing bingo, spending time with her family, and feeding her birds. In her younger years, she drove racecars at the Newport Racetrack. She was an avid NASCAR fan. She is survived by her children: Lynn Brown and her husband, Bruce, of Lake Worth, Florida, Robert Lawson and his wife, Janet, of Irasburg, Vickie Hall and her husband, Larry, of Irasburg, Sandra Ticehurst and her husband, Ron, of Ogden, Quebec, and Jack Lawson Jr. and his friend, Julie, of Farmington, Maine; by 16 grandchildren; by 27 great-grandchildren; by one great-great-grandchild; by her brothers: Homer Dunn and his wife, Ruth, of Bellows Falls, Charles Dunn and his wife, Thelma, of East Dummerston, and Mitchell Dunn and his wife, Sandy, of Lowell; by aunts and uncles in Canada; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon Wheeler; by brothers Manny Dunn and his partner, Florence, and Roland Santaw and his wife, Ellen; and by her grandson Sean Hall. Born in East Franklin, Ms. Wakeman was a daughter of the late Albert and Alda (Guthrie) Wakeman. She was employed at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford for many years. She is survived by two brothers, Donovan Wakeman of Barton and Johnny Wakeman of Greenfield, New Hampshire; by her sister Joyce Hassan of Sun City West, Arizona; by her niece Louann Hall of Granby, Connecticut; and by her dear friend Marjorie Hall of East Hartford. , 67, of Union, Maine, died Sunday, May 4, 2008, at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport, Maine. Mr. Taylor was born April 14, 1941, in East Charleston, a son of Calvin and Jennie Coville Taylor. He attended local schools. He was active with the Army National Guard in Vermont in the early 1960s. He worked as a driver for Woodway Movers in Newport. While in Vermont, he married Marilyn Taylor, and they had two children. He moved to Maine in 1977. He worked in the mill for Crowe Rope in Warren, Maine, for 23 years and later for Robbins Lumber in Searsmont, Maine. He lastly worked for Corson's NAPA Auto Parts in Rockland, Maine. He married Mae Dudley Taylor in Maine. He loved animals and feeding and watching birds. He always had an immaculate lawn and liked keeping things neat. He enjoyed playing horseshoes and spending time with his family and friends. He collected antiques and enjoyed exploring new roads to see where they would come out. He enjoyed sitting in his cat-napping chair and watching television. He was predeceased by his wife, Mae Taylor; and by brother-in-law Arthur Burns. He is survived by three daughters: Pamela Timberlake and her husband, Ron, of Washington, Maine, Nancy Ryan and her husband, Tom, of Williston, and Linda Taylor of Missouri; by his son Roger Taylor of California; by sisters Goldie Burns of Union and Veleda Hubbard of Lyndonville; by ten grandchildren; and by numerous nephews and nieces. Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 9, at Hall Funeral Home in Waldoboro, Maine. The funeral will be held 1 p.m. on Saturday at Hall Funeral Home. , 82, of Newport Center died suddenly May 1, 2008, in Newport. Mr. Royea was born September 23, 1925, in Brownville Junction, Maine, a son of Jesse and Melissa (Guilbert) Royea. On October 9, 1952, he married Ruth Columbia, who predeceased him. He was a fireman with the Canadian Pacific Railway for 36 years. He entered the United States Navy and served his country in the South Pacific during World War II. He held membership with American Legion Post 21. He enjoyed refinishing pleasure boats and being with his dogs. He and his wife went to Florida for 21 years after his retirement. They enjoyed raising horses and showing them at horse shows throughout northern Vermont. They also raised dogs. He is survived by two children, Susan Royea and David Royea and his wife, Diane, all of Newport; by grandchildren: Kevin Royea and his wife, Kristy, of North Troy, Christopher Royer and his wife, Jennifer, of Nashville, Tennessee, Jennifer Royea and her companion, Andrew Desroches, of Jay, and Jesse Royea and his fiancée, Megan Tice, of Newport; and by eight great-grandchildren. , 76, of Stanstead, Quebec, died April 25, 2008, at a Sherbrooke, Quebec, hospital. Mr. Paquin was born November 20, 1931, in Arthabaska, Quebec, a son of Alfred and Rose-Anna (Rousseau) Paquin. On July 17, 1954, he married Jeannine Auger in Granby, Quebec. She survives him. In 1962 he moved his family to North Troy, where he and his wife farmed. Later he farmed in Newport Center and owned the Royal Restaurant on Main Street in Newport. He was also known as a great carpenter. After retirement, he and his wife moved to Stanstead and enjoyed the winter months at their Florida home. He loved being around family and friends, gardening, fishing, bowling, and lending a helping hand. Mr. Bullis was born April 9, 1935, in Newport to Alfred and Dorothy (Sanville) Bullis. He married Annette (Dallaire) Bullis. He was a U.S. veteran of the Korean War. He loved his family, friends and neighbors. He loved life, his work as a truck driver with Gilco Ready Mix (prior to his retirement), and the friendships he developed with his co-workers. He enjoyed his daily outings to Tim Hortons, and he will be sadly missed by all. He is survived by his wife, Annette; by one daughter, Penny Allain, of Memramcook, New Brunswick; by three sons: Stephen and Michael of Massachusetts and Kenneth of North Carolina; by three sisters: Iona Carter of Newport, Esther Peck and her husband, Terrance, of Massachusetts, and Connie Rogers and her husband, Bobby, of Florida; by 11 grandchildren: Amy, Chris, Stephanie, Jason, Penny, Sherry, Kerry, Jennifer, Kendra, Tiffiny, and Noel; and by several nieces and nephews. She married James Pelletier in 1954, and he predeceased her in 1983. She graduated as a dietician from the University of Maine and worked for several years at Eastern Maine Medical Center. She has lived in the area for over 25 years. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, singing, and listening to music, especially the big band sounds. She is survived by three nephews, including Tim Leavitt of Maine; by three great-nephews; by two great-great-nephews; by stepdaughter Eleanor Manion of Ilcon, New York; and by special friend Shirley Turner of Newport. She was predeceased by her brother Laurence Leavitt of Orono in February 2007. She will be buried at the Riverside Cemetery in Orono at the convenience of the family.

, 52, died suddenly at her home in Jay on Saturday, May 10, 2008. Mrs. Braun was born December 7, 1955, a daughter of Edward and Dorothy (Harty) Dunne, in Unionville, Connecticut. She and her husband, Michael, moved to this area several years ago; she taught in area schools. For the last 17 years, she was employed at North Country Union High School. She was a former president and member of the Vermont Art Teachers Association and the Vermont Drivers Education Teachers Association. She oversaw the mural that was painted on the wall at the Veterans of Foreign Wars hall, and she arranged student art exhibits and assisted many students with showcasing their artistic talents at local businesses. She enjoyed water-skiing and snow skiing, gardening, art, and photography. She and her husband, Michael, enjoyed traveling; they met in Greece when they spent a short time teaching there. She is survived by her loving husband, Michael; by her sons Erik and Alex of New York, New York; by her brother Edward Dunne and his wife, Karen, of Connecticut; by sisters: Marian Collier and her husband, Norman, Bernadette Fraher and her husband, Mark, and Dorothy Lindau, all of Connecticut; by sisters-in-law Marie Cimino and her husband, Bill, of Florida and Jackie Iano of New York; and by several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. She graduated from a nursing school in Montreal in the late 1950s. She owned and operated a nursing home in Sherbrooke, Quebec, for several years before moving to the States. She took care of handicapped adults at her home in Newport for a number of years. She enjoyed traveling, knitting, and flowers. She was predeceased by her first husband, All Dee Vallee; by her second husband, Rudolph Dickens; by her mother, Edith Connor; by her father, Gerald Moore; by her sister Geraldine Moore; and by brothers Leon and Bruce Moore. Mrs. Menard was born March 23, 1961, in Newport, a daughter of Henry and Quedabond (Conard) Chilafoux. She graduated from Lake Region Union High School in 1979 and the Vermont College of Cosmetology in 1980. On June 28, 1980, she married Raymond Menard, who survives her. She was a self-employed beautician and owned and operated Re-Creations by Chris and Company on the Derby Road for 21 years. She was a member of St. Mary, Star of the Sea, Catholic Church in Newport. She volunteered at the Elks Club with her husband, Raymond. She was a member of the American Cancer Society for the Look Good Feel Better program, and she contributed to the Locks of Love program. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family, friends, and loving clients. She was very community oriented and a great public servant. , 85, of Greensboro died Thursday, April 24, 2008, at Copley Hospital in Morrisville. Mrs. Bartel was born in Peoria, Illinois, on March 6, 1923, to Anna Daetwyler and Louis R. Novakow. On March 26, 1944, she married Kenneth A. Bartel. While residing in Peoria, she raised her children, worked at various advertising agencies as a graphic designer and illustrator (including her stint as the first artist at Multi-Ad Services, founded in the 1940s by her father-in-law, Walter F. Bartel), volunteered at Proctor Hospital, served on the board of the Peoria Civic Ballet, and attended Grace Lutheran Church. In 1978, she moved to Greensboro, where she started her own one-woman advertising agency, Anniegraphics, noted for her many unique logo designs. She was very active in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, often performing with the Greensboro Kazoo Band to the delight of area nursing home residents. She was a member of the Greensboro United Church of Christ. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; by her children Lance Bartel and his wife, Madeleine, of Middletown, Delaware, Alexandra Francischine and her husband, Franco, of Sebastian, Florida; by her three grandchildren: Alexander Bartel, Tyler Marie, and Dominic Francischine; by her sister Mary Lou Ackerman; by her sisters-in-law Norma and Lois Novakow; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; by her brothers: Adolph S., Glen L. and her twin, Melvin D. Novakow; by her sister-in-law Janet Novakow; and by her brother-in-law Solomon Ackerman. She was a devoted wife, a wise and loving mother, a cherished friend, a talented artist, and a source of joy in the world. She danced into the hearts of all who knew her, and she'll remain there forever. A memorial service will be held this summer at United Church of Christ in Greensboro.
