Lucien B. Day

, 91, died at his home in Craftsbury on Thursday night, May 29, 2008. Born in Hartford, Connecticut, on August 26, 1916, a son of Arthur and Lucy (Bunce) Day, Mr. Day graduated from Yale University, having been voted class poet, and spent the Second World War in the Army, serving on the Pentagon's China desk. Studying art at the Cranbrook Academy in Michigan, he became a dedicated painter of landscapes and figures and a generous supporter of artists and the arts. His career as a painter, spanning eight decades, ranged from New York City to the Northeast Kingdom. He was for many years a patron of the Craftsbury Chamber Players. His friends and correspondents included Fairfield Porter, Francis Colburn, John Marin, Alex Katz, Lois Dodd, and Rudy Burckhardt, among many others. In 1968, he founded, in Greenwich Village, a central institution in the Figurative Revival, the Green Mountain Gallery, where a number of artists, both young and established, were invited to exhibit. His own work has been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, the Hudson River Museum, the Wadsworth Atheneum, the New Britain Museum of American Art, the Philips Memorial Gallery, the Fleming Museum, and most recently, in a retrospective at the Helen Day Art Center in Stowe. In June 2006 the Vermont Arts Council presented Mr. Day with the Walter Cerf Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts. Reviews of his work have appeared in the New York Times, Art New England, Arts Magazine, Art News, the Times Argus, and Vermont Times. Many of his works are held in private and public collections. He is survived by his wife, Jean Poppy (Raymond) Day, of Craftsbury; by his first wife, J. Day Mason; by his children: Felicity and her husband, JohnDoble, of California, Sarah and her husband, Laurence Richard, of Walden, and Margot Day Mellett and her husband, KurtisMellett, ofCraftsbury; by 17 grandchildren; and by 21 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Christopher Day. A memorial gathering and celebration of Lucien Day's life will be held Saturday, July 12, from 2 to 4:30 p.m, in the Day meadow on the north end of Lake Eligo in Craftsbury.

, 63, of Island Pond died peacefully June 14, 2008, in Newport. Mr. Worth was born July 16, 1944, in Newport, a son of Ina (Wolcott) Worth and Delmond Worth. He was an English teacher at North Country Union High School in Newport for eight years. He enjoyed talking to people and sharing stories. He is survived by two children, Samuel and Lillian Worth, of Norwich; by his mother, Ina Worth, of Island Pond; by his brother Barry Worth of Knowlton, Quebec; and by his sister Barbara Daniels and her husband, Dennis, of St. Johnsbury. , 89, of Lake Worth, Florida, formerly of Newport, died suddenly on March 4, 2008, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. Mr. Ronk was born August 9, 1918, in Dayton to Frank and Cora Whitlock. He was predeceased by his parents; by his brother Clifford Ronk; by his sister Mary Hardin; and by son-in-law John Sukola III. He is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Beverly; by his children: Sharon Sukola, Donna Stephans, Carol Ronk, and Paul Ronk; by his stepchildren: Charles Norton, Robert Norton, Susan Leavitt, Debra Kerr, Johanna Milhesier, and Judith Love; and by several loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a man of God. He loved the Lord and always spoke of Him in terms of peace and salvation. He met his wife in Florida, where they resided for some years. They moved to Vermont so his wife could be near her children. He enjoyed going to the Derby Church of God and to Northern State Correctional Facility in Newport to talk to the inmates. One of his greatest loves was that of his wife. He moved back to Florida so they could relive where they had once started. He wrote in his final days a letter that said his wife had given him reason to live and the last 24 years were the happiest years of his life. There is no greater love than that of a soul mate. Committal services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 20, at Mead Hill Cemetery in Holland. All family and friends are asked to attend.

, 81, of Newport died peacefully June 12, 2008, in Newport. Mr. LeBlanc was born September 29, 1926, in Jay, a son of Joseph and Leda (Theroux) LeBlanc. On September 30, 1950, he married Yvette Campbell, who survives him. He served in the Army and was a veteran of World War II. He was a dairy farmer for seven years, and he owned and operated LeBlanc Barn Supply for 30 years. He held membership with St. Mary, Star of the Sea, Catholic Church, and he was a third- and fourth-degree member of Knights of Columbus Gibbons Council 2285 and Gibbons Assembly 1157. He was a member of American Legion Post 21 of Newport. He and his wife enjoyed camping and traveling to Florida in their motor home. They adopted twin boys, Alfred and Anthony, in 1953. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Yvette; by his son Anthony of Reno, Nevada; by his brothers Gaston LeBlanc of North Troy and Leonard LeBlanc and his wife, Joyce, of Wesley Chapel, Florida; by his sister Juliette Bourne of Morrisville; by his sister-in-law Georgette LeBlanc of Troy; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his son Alfred in 1992; by two half-brothers, Albert Boulay and Armand Boulay; by his sister Anita Carstarphen; and by his brother Laurent LeBlanc. Funeral services were held June 17 at St. Mary, Star of the Sea, Catholic Church in Newport with the Reverend Yvon Royer celebrating a Mass of Christian Burial. Lila Duval Lamoureux

, 93, of Island Pond died peacefully June 14, 2008, in Burlington. Mrs. Lamoureux was born in Newport on May 4, 1915, a daughter of Charles and Maude (Briggs) Duval. She was predeceased by two brothers, baby Leon and Floyd. She graduated from Newport High School in 1934. On June 30, 1935, she married Victor Lamoureux in Christ Episcopal Church in Island Pond. In 1985, the couple celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with their many friends and relatives. Mr. Lamoureux died in 1986 after a yearlong battle with cancer. The couple was blessed with the birth of their son Brent, who, with his wife, Joanne, survives her. She is survived by grandson Craig Lamoureux and his companion, Manasseh Tourigny, of Colchester; by granddaughter Sarah Ricker and her husband, Jeromey, of Johnson; and by nieces and nephews: Louise Savary, Diane Coughlin, Dennis Duval, Michael Duval, and Jean Crawford. In 1974, she and her husband sold their home in Island Pond, and Mr. Lamoureux built an A-frame in Brunswick, where they spent summers for ten years. They spent winters in Largo, Florida. They moved back to Island Pond to be near doctors and the hospital. After her husband died, she spent eight years in Sunrise Manor in Island Pond. In 2004 she moved to Huntington with her son and daughter-in-law Brent and Joanne Lamoureux, who took care of her with loving care and kindness for three years. In November 2006 she moved into Starr Farm Nursing Home in Burlington. She worked for New England Telephone and Telegraph for ten years. She was assistant town clerk for the town of Brighton for ten years and worked for the Selective Service in Montpelier for two years. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Island Pond for 70 years. She was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, the Island Pond's Women's Club, the Random Ladies, the Club Nine Investment Club, and the Sunrise Manor Seniors, of which she served as secretary to all. Funeral services were held June 17 at Christ Episcopal Church with the Reverend Brendan Whittaker officiating. Interment followed in Lakeside Cemetery, where members of American Legion Auxiliary 81 conducted a prayer service. , 77, of Newport died peacefully June 12, 2008, in Newport. Mrs. Barrup was born July 7, 1930, in St. Johnsbury, a daughter of Harold and Clara (Davis) Turner. On July 21, 1951, she married Howard Barrup, who survives her. She was a telephone operator for New England Telephone and Telegraph for ten years. In 1967 she was a cook and cashier at the North Country Union High School cafeteria until her retirement. In her earlier years, she enjoyed racing cars; she lead a full and active life. She held membership with the Vermont Gas and Steam Engine Association; she enjoyed traveling and meeting new friends. She is survived by three sons: Steven Barrup and his wife, Sue, of Newport Center, Stuart Barrup and his wife, Bonnie, of West Charleston, and Bradley Barrup and his wife, Joann, of Newport; by grandchildren: Melissa, Gretchen, Thomas, and Adam Barrup and Jaime Roy; by two great-granddaughters, Alexis and Ashlyn; by her brother Graydon C. Turner of El Paso, Texas; and by three nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Harold Turner. On November 29, 1958, he married Jean Bennett, who survives him. He was milk and a truck driver for the town of Seymour, Connecticut. In 2003 he moved to Barton. He enjoyed fishing. , 46, died quietly in Plainfield, New Hampshire, on June 21, 2008, at the home of Raymond "Sam" Daniels and his loving sister Nancy Perkins Downs after a courageous five-year battle with cancer. Mr. Perkins was born in Lebanon, New Hampshire, on October 25, 1961, a son of Ella (Rash) and Randolph M. Perkins Sr. He was surrounded by his loving family in his final days. He attended grade school in West Lebanon, New Hampshire, and graduated from Lake Region Union High School in 1980. He married Rhonda Osborne on February 14, 1987. She survives him. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard for five years and worked for his father at Perkins Sales and Service in Westmore for several years. He was a deputy warden for the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department, and he worked for Newman Lumber Company, Davis Lumber, and Derby Equipment. He was a former sexton of the Lakeview Cemetery in Westmore. He enjoyed the outdoors, spending time with Tory and Trevor hunting and fishing and going on family outings with Rhonda, Tory, Trevor, and Tiffany. He was a well-respected member of his community in Westmore and by his friends. He deeply loved his family and will be sorely missed. In 1940 he married Gilberte Campbell, who survives him. He worked at Ethan Allen in Orleans for 23 years. He enjoyed gardening and playing cards with his wife, friends, and relatives. He was a caretaker of Rainbow Apartments and St. Theresa's Church. When he was in good health, he enjoyed having coffee with the guys at the Candlepin Restaurant in Barton. He enjoyed family gatherings, especially with the grandchildren. He was more than willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed it. , 87, of Barton died peacefully June 16, 2008, in Glover. Mr. Ingersoll was born February 26, 1921, in Barton, a son of Charles and Hazel (Nutting)Ingersoll. On June 5, 1950, he married Theresa Paquette, who survives him. He entered the United States Army on October 8, 1942, where he served in the Pacific for 21 months in the 390th Infantry Regiment as a squad leader in charge of a rifle combat squad of 12 men. He was honorably discharged on February 3, 1946. He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Post Office; he retired in 1981. He held membership with American Legion Barton Post 76. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he enjoyed gardening and reading. , 63, of Newport died and went to be with the Lord on June 18, 2008, after a lengthy illness. Mr. Hodges was the beloved husband of Sandra Bedard Hodges. He was born July 31, 1944, a son of Glenn and Wilma (Buxton) Hodges in Worchester, Massachusetts. He grew up in Massachusetts and was raised primarily by his stepfather, George Reed, and his mother, Wilma Buxton, who predeceased him. He was a loving and caring child to his grandparents Willard and Annette Buxton. He had been employed at the Colonial Press in Clinton, Massachusetts, as a supervisor at James Monroe Wire and Cable in Lancaster, Massachusetts, and a house manager for the Nashua Center in Nashua, New Hampshire. He loved everything he did in life, including traveling with his wife, Sandra, visiting many states and Canada. He enjoyed being outdoors, going to car shows, and spending time with his family, who were his first love. , 88, died June 15, 2008, in Newport with her niece Janet R. Cartee, her husband, Richard, and their three children Tim, Patrick, and Heather at her side, where they've always been for her. Mrs. Farrow had been a resident of Newport Health Care Center for the past 13 months. Prior to that she had been a resident at Michaud Manor for eight months until she fell and broke her femur. Up until she had to go into assisted living, she owned her mobile home and was very comfortable living in the park. She was born April 13, 1920, in Montreal, Quebec, the only child born to Joseph H. and Margaret (Heys) Wilson. She attended and graduated middle and high school in Montreal. After high school she attended Stanstead College and the Bugbee School of Business. She later became a naturalized citizen of the United States. In December 1952 she married Lawrence Charles Farrow, who predeceased her in October 1975 due to cancer. She taught business education in the Newport Center School, and she taught at the Eva Warner Learning Center. After retiring from teaching, she helped her husband run Larry's Sport Shop, located first on Gardner Street next to Provost's Market in Newport. The sport shop was moved to Main Street in Newport. Due to her husband's declining health, the sport shop was moved to the basement of their home on the Derby Line Road. She dearly loved the Lord and couldn't wait to go home to Him. She was a member of the United Church of Derby since 1975. She was very active in a lot of Bible studies and was always there to help anyone in need. She was a very gentle person and a wonderful listener, and she had a heart of gold. She touched many lives in her lifetime. Not only was she active in the church, but she volunteered at North Country Hospital in the gift shop for years, usually on a Sunday afternoon and maybe one other afternoon during the week. She and her husband enjoyed walking in the woods and snowshoeing in winter. They also wintered in Florida for several years. She enjoyed going to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, for several years after her husband died. She is survived by nieces and nephews: Linda Farrow of Waterloo, Ontario, and her children Leanne and Ryan; Bonnie Farrow of Williston and her children Scott of Seattle, Washington, Kristy of Bozeman, Montana, and Rae-Anne of Brookfield; Steven Farrow and his wife, Pam, of Newport and their son Timothy, who is stationed in central Afghanistan; Thomas Farrow of Newport; Christopher Farrow and his wife, Nickie, of Mt. Holly and their children Benjamin, Hannah, Jonah, Samuel, Abigail, Raymond, Kimberly, Michael, Marc, and Brett; David Jaques and his wife, Suzanne, and David Jr. of Milton; and Janet L. , 65, of Evansville died peacefully June 20, 2008, in Newport. Mr. Falconer was born March 26, 1943, in Stanstead, Quebec, a son of Raymond and Emily (Wormsley) Falconer. On July 2, 1966, he married Fleurette Dupuis of St. Ludger, Quebec. He was owner and operator of G.H. Falconer Trucking Company. He enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, and driving his big truck in parades. He loved driving "running" errands for the boys, and he also loved to hold the "bench down" in the shop. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He held membership with the fourth-degree Knights of Columbus Gibbons Council 1157. He is survived by his wife, Fleurette Falconer, of Evansville; by three sons: Micheal Falconer of Evansville, Geoffrey Falconer Jr. and his wife, Renee, of Evansville, and William Falconer and his wife, Angie, of Evansville; by grandchildren: Kennedy, Cameron, Michelle, and Geoffrey Thomas; by his parents, Emily Wormsley of Lenoxville, Quebec, and Raymond Falconer of Rock Island, Quebec; and by siblings: Gwen Rolston and her husband, Gary, of Rock Island, Linda Durocher and her husband, Paul, of Rock Island, Mona Davis of Vancouver, British Columbia, Barbara Falconer of British Columbia, Steven Falconer of North Troy, Richard Falconer and his wife, Ann, of Jay, Gary Falconer of Florida, and Diane Blanchette and her husband, Francois, of Stanstead, Quebec. He was predeceased by two brothers, Jack and Billy; and by sister Margaret Crawford. Friends and family may call from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, at the Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Funeral Home on Darling Hill Road in Newport followed by funeral services at noon at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Orleans with the Reverend Daniel Rupp celebrating a Mass of Catholic Burial. , 86, of St. Johnsbury died in the comfort of his home, surrounded by loved ones, on Saturday, June 21, 2008. His keen sense of humor and loving personality will be greatly missed. Mr. Dilley was born in Irricanna, Alberta, on August 28, 1921, a son of Albert J. and Ethel M. Hook Dilley Blaisdell. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II for five years, with three years spent in the Pacific Islands campaign. Often he would reminisce about his war experiences. He returned to Vermont and married Ruth Ticehurst of St. Johnsbury in South Congregational Church on June 25, 1949. They would have celebrated their fifty-ninth wedding anniversary this year. During his career as New England sales manager for the H.K. Webster Company, he served as president of the Vermont Feed Dealers Association, worked frequently with the University of Vermont Extension Service in various capacities, and was well-respected by area farmers with whom he worked closely. He retired from the company in 1983. He and his wife were avid golfers and members of Orleans Country Club. He loved Shadow Lake in Glover and the family times spent there over the 50 years they owned the family camp. He was a member and past deacon of South Congregational Church. In his retirement years, he and his wife traveled to Florida, North Carolina, and back to his roots in Alberta. He especially enjoyed being a grampa. He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Ticehurst) Dilley; by three children: Harold A. Dilley Jr. and his wife, Brenda, of Ocala, Florida, Pat Robbins and her husband, Mark, of New Bern, North Carolina, and Pamela Collier and her husband, Anthony, of Westfield, Massachusetts; by seven grandchildren: Tara, Jennifer, Mandy, Shannon, Tony, Morgan, and Andrew; by three great-grandchildren: Emory, Shyanne, and Thomas; by brother-in-law Amos Ticehurst and his wife, Barbara, of White River Junction; and by nieces and nephews. His brother George Dilley and his wife, Bertha, and his sister Olive Wishart and her husband, Jim, predeceased him. A memorial service was held June 24 at South Congregational Church with the Reverend William Schutter officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. , 80, a lifetime resident farmer of Craftsbury, died at his home Wednesday, June 18, 2008, in the loving care of his wife, Jeannette Martin Anderson. Mr. Anderson was born in Craftsbury on November 20, 1927, a son of Walter and Leona (Morey) Anderson. He attended graded school in Craftsbury and graduated from Craftsbury Academy in 1945. He owned and operated the family dairy farm, taking it over from his father, for whom he had worked all his life. He married Jeannette Atwood Martin in 1968, and she joined him working on the farm as well. He was a member of the United Church of Craftsbury and the Vermont Farm Bureau and had served the town of Craftsbury as a school director and on the board of trustees for Craftsbury Academy. He loved his family, his farm, and his friends. He also loved his community and school, playing cards, and going to auctions and out to brunch. Besides his wife, Jeannette, he leaves four sons: Bruce Martin and his wife, Sheryl, of Craftsbury, Roger and his wife, Patricia, of Craftsbury, Randy and his wife, Michelle, of Craftsbury, and Paul and his wife, Rita, of Albany; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Janice Anderson of Craftsbury, Helen Bissell and her husband, Victor, of Palmyra, Maine, and Carolyn Rowell and her husband, Phillip, of Albany; and several nieces and nephews and extended family members. He was predeceased by two sisters, Elaine Anderson and Esther Sweatt. A memorial service was held June 22 at the United Church of Craftsbury with Pastor Alan Parker officiating. Final interment will be in the Craftsbury Common Cemetery. , 51, of Derby Line died June 21, 2008, in Lebanon, New Hampshire. Mr. Stewart was born September 10, 1956, in Newport, a son of Gordon and Irene (Bell) Stewart. He was a groundskeeper for St. Edward's Church in Derby Line for 30 years. He loved his God and church, and when looking around the property it was evident that he took great pride in it and his work. He lived for sports and his beloved Boston Red Sox, and he was not to be excelled in the knowledge of the team and its history. He enjoyed being with his family, his siblings, and his nieces and nephews, and knowing their successes in life. He is survived by his parents, Gordon and Irene Stewart, of Derby Line; by four brothers: Shayne Stewart and his wife, Robin, of Massachusetts, Lonn Stewart of Newport, Mark Stewart and his wife, Sharon, of Newport, and Ryan Stewart and his wife, Lori, of Lyndon; by his sister Laurie Stewart of Newport and her partner, Vincent Roman; by his nieces and nephews: Jena, Kati, Nathan and Bayla Stewart, Annie and Abe Hinman, and Darian and Samantha Stewart; and by several aunts and uncles. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 27, at 10 a.m. at St. Edward's Catholic Church with the Reverend Yvon Royer celebrating a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Edward's Cemetery in Derby Line.
