, of Lyndonville, died on Monday, June 9, 2008, at the age of 33. He was born in St. Johnsbury on April 12, 1975, the son of Ronald and Melody (Call) Briggs. Josh graduated from Concord High School in 1993 and was currently employed at Littleton Regional Hospital. Josh was known for quick wit and sense of humor. He loved to play golf and share family time at the barbeque with his children. Josh was a dedicated father to his son Zachary, age 10, his daughter Camdyn, age 2, and his four step-children, Mackenzie, Rylie, Dylanie, and Kirbie. He is also survived by his father Ron Briggs and life partner Rodney Milburn of Concord; his grandfather Dale Briggs of East Concord; aunt Deb Fullerton and husband David of Woodsville, N.H.; uncle Mark Johnson and wife Darlene of Concord; four cousins, Christa, Mark II, Elizabeth and Destiny. Graveside services will be held this Friday at 10 a.m. at the Glenwood Cemetery in Littleton, N.H. The Rev. Mark Heinrichs, chaplin at Littleton Regional Hospital, will preside. Patricia "Patsy" T. Barrup

, 77, of Newport, died peacefully June 12, 2008, in Newport. She was born July 7, 1930, in St. Johnsbury, a daughter of Harold and Clara (Davis) Turner. On July 21, 1951, she married Howard Barrup who survives her. Barrup was a telephone operator for the New England Telephone and Telegraph for 10 years. In 1967 was also a cook and cashier at the North Country Union High School Cafeteria until her retirement. In her earlier years she enjoyed racing cars and she lead a full and active life. She held membership with the Vermont Gas and Steam Engine Association where she enjoyed traveling and meeting new friends. Barrup is survived by three sons, Steven Barrup and his wife Sue, of Newport Center, Stuart Barrup and his wife Bonnie, of West Charleston, and Bradley Barrup and his wife Joann, of Newport. She is also survived by the following grandchildren: Melissa, Gretchen, Thomas, and Adam Barrup and Jaime Roy; by two great granddaughters: Alexis and Ashlyn; a brother Graydon C. Turner, of El Paso, Texas; and by three nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother Harold Turner. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, June 17, 2008, at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home, 4670 Darling Hill Road, Newport, with the Rev. Alfred Nelson officiating. Interment will follow in West Charleston Cemetery. Mallet "Andy" A. Anderson

, 92, of Pittsburg, N.H., passed away on Thursday morning, June 12, 2008, at his residence after a short period of failing health. Anderson was born Sept. 2, 1915, in New Sweden, Maine., a son of the late Carleton Anderson and Kristina (Swenson) Anderson. Mallet grew up in Stockholm, Maine, and he graduated from Caribou High School in 1932. He learned to play the trumpet at an early age, becoming the first president of the Caribou High School Marching Band. At the end of the Depression, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (C.C.C.) in Patton, Maine, and in 1935 he moved with the corps to build the C.C.C. camps in Pittsburg, N.H. There he met Dorothy Hawes who became his wife. It was in Pittsburg where his friends began to call him "Andy." Anderson served with honor in the U.S. Navy during World War II, putting his musical skill to work as a bugler. Following his military service, he continued playing the trumpet with local big bands, and he would often be seen playing with Ellsworth Bunnell's trio all over the North Country. "Andy" worked many jobs in his life: as a carpenter and logger, a store owner, a forest fire tower lookout on Magalloway Mountain, and as a forest fire patrol officer known in the region as the "wandering warden." He was an all-around "jack-of-all-trades." He served for a time as a member and chairman of the Pittsburg school board, and he was a member of the American Legion. He loved to hunt, fish and guide, and he bowled in the Canaan and Colebrook leagues. He was an avid card player and loved to try his hand at casino slot machines. Andy will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and dear friend to many. He leaves behind two sons, Michael Anderson and wife, Rhoda, of Littleton, N.H., and Donald Anderson and wife, Madeline, of Akron, Ohio; a daughter, Kristina and husband, Gerry, of Littleton, N.H.; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Hazel, Inez, Evelyn and Sylvia; the son of his dear friend for many years, Reginald Ellingwood of Lemington, Vt.; as well as numerous dear nieces and nephews. Anderson is preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorothy, in 1986; five brothers, Signe, Harold, Winfred, Perley, and Kenneth; one sister, Bernice; and his dear friend and companion for many years, Jeannette Ellingwood. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, June 15, 2008, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook, N.H. A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 16, at 11 a.m. at the Farnham Memorial United Methodist Church in Pittsburg with interment to follow at the Pittsburg Hollow Cemetery. , of St. Johnsbury and Peacham, passed away Thursday evening, June 12, 2008, surrounded by her family and loved ones. It was her and her twin sister's 44 birthday. She was the daughter of Bernard and Pauline (Messier) McElroy of St. Johnsbury. Diane loved working at Maple Grove where she was employed for the past 10 years. She was highly valued not only for her hard work but for the spirit, enthusiasm, and fun she shared with all. She enjoyed fishing, hunting (really road-riding with her sister!), bowling, and especially spending time with her children and grand-babies. She was always the life of the party and will never be forgotten for her open heart and love of life. Her life has touched many and she will be remembered by all who were blessed to have known her. She is survived by her three daughters: Miranda McElroy and Josh Robinson of West Barnet, Kendra McElroy of St. Johnsbury, Katie McElroy and Shawn Pelow of St. Johnsbury; five grandchildren: Jacob and Jordan Robinson, Tyrin Holloway, Davon McElroy and Alana Pelow; her husband David of Peacham; two sisters: her twin Donna Ward and husband Richard of Barnet, Rita Christie and husband Frank of St. Johnsbury; two brothers: Michael McElroy and Trella Legacy of Orleans, Christopher McElroy and wife Bonnie of Connecticut; aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, and cousins, and her really good friends Joe Stewart and Michelle Magoon; longtime friends Chrissy Noyes, Brenda Lane, and Kim Gaylore. She was predeceased by her brother Patrick and wife Cheryl. Visiting hours will be held at the Sayles Funeral Home Sunday, June 15, from 2 to 5 p.m., concluding with prayer led by Pastor Rick Menard. , 78, of Central Street, Woodsville, N.H., died on June 13, 2008, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, N.H. Carmine was born on Aug. 30, 1929, in New York City, to Carmine Joseph and Helen (Harrison) Carozza. He served in the US Army from January 1951 through December 1952. He worked for the New Hampshire Department of Agriculture for 22 years, retiring in 1986. Following his retirement from the state, he moved to upstate New York, where he worked at Pinebush High School and he retired from there in August 1994. Carmine was predeceased by a grandson, Reuben Filides. He is survived by two daughters, Gina Filides of Tampa, Fla., and Angelina Smith and husband Pete of North Haverhill, N.H.; a son Thomas Carozza and wife Yocasta of Merrimack, N.H.; five grandchildren; a sister, Rose Marie Moto of New York City; two brothers, Kenneth Carozza of New York and Robert Carozza of New Jersey; and several nieces and nephews. A burial service will be on Monday, June 16, at 11 a.m., in the chapel of the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, N.H. , 73, of Belmont, N.H., formerly a resident of Lyndonville, Vt., died on June 11 at the St. Francis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Laconia, N.H., of an extended illness. Winans is survived by her beloved husband of 52 years William "Yogi" Winans. Along with her loving children, Thomas Winans and his wife Marilyn, of Vermont, Elizabeth Fusco of Bloomfield, N.J., Bonnie Martin and her husband Ron, of New Hampshire, and Julie Winans of Georgia; her sister Karen Alexander and her husband Derek of South Belmar, and their children Derek Jr. and Brandon; and her sister-in-law Dona Mueller, of Florida. Also surviving are her very special grandchildren, Sarah, Ruth, and Rachel, and many caring nieces and nephews. Winans was predeceased by her brother Jack Mueller. , 63, of Island Pond, died peacefully June 14, 2008, in Newport. He was born July 16, 1944, in Newport a son of Ina (Wolcott) Worth and the late Delmond Worth. Mr. Worth was an English Teacher at North Country Union High School in Newport for eight years. He enjoyed talking to people and sharing stories. He is survived by two children Samuel and Lillian Worth of Norwich, his mother Ina Worth of Island Pond, a brother Barry Worth of Knowlton, Quebec, and by a sister Barbara Daniels and her husband Dennis of St. Johnsbury. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday June 19, 2008, at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home, 1199 Railroad St., Island Pond with the Rev. Robert Castle officiating. Porter H. Dale, M.D.

, of Montpelier passed away at his home on June 15, Father's Day, surrounded by his family. He was diagnosed with cancer in May of this year. He led an exemplary life marked by devotion to his family, his profession and his community. Porter, a fifth generation Vermonter, was born on Sept. 27, 1922. He lived his early years in Island Pond, the oldest of four children of Timothy Christopher Dale and Emma Hemmig Dale. After completing high school he was offered a scholarship to Wesleyan University, which he attended before returning to Vermont to complete both his undergraduate and medical education at the University of Vermont. Following his marriage to Mary Lois Westover in 1951 and the completion of his military service, he established a practice in Internal Medical in Montpelier in 1953. He practiced medicine in Central Vermont for 40 years until his retirement in 1991. During those years he served as President of the Vermont Heart Association (1961-63), President of the Vermont State Medical Society (1971-72), American College of Physicians Governor for Vermont (1975-79), and President of the Vermont Board of Physical Therapy Registration (1957-75). He played a pivotal role in establishing the first Coronary Care Unit at Central Vermont Hospital and served as its Director from 1968 to 1980. He was also President of the Central Vermont Hospital Medical Staff from 1980 to 1982. Throughout his medical career and until 2006, Porter served as medical consultant to the Social Security Disability Determination Agency of Vermont. His tenure as a Medical Consultant to the Social Security Administration is the longest of any physician in the United States. Porter was deeply involved in his community. His contributions include: Member of the Montpelier Rotary Club since 1957, Rotary Club President from 1977-78, Member, Board of Trustees of the Central Vermont Medical Center (1977-2001), Member of the Board of Directors of the Vermont Lung Association (1973-1992), Director of the Howard Bank, Burlington, Vt., (1980-89), and Director of BankNorth Group, Burlington, Vt. (1989-92). He was the Washington County Citizen of the Year in 1994. Porter had a love of Vermont history, including the history of his home town of Brighton (Island Pond), and he authored several published works on this subject. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary (Westover) Dale, their four children and spouses, and nine grandchildren: Christopher Damon Dale and Jeannine Taylor of Lincoln, Mass., his son, Nathan; Peter Allen Dale and Jane Sakovitz Dale of Montpelier, their children Adam and Emma; Timothy Porter Dale and Trudy Ann Dale of Lake Worth, Fla., their children Jennifer, Porter, Addison and Zachary; Susan (Dale) Kenyon and James Kenyon of Westboro, Mass., and their children William and Mary. They will be forever inspired by Porter's patience, integrity, humility, work ethic, and commitment to life-long learning. In addition to his immediate family, Porter is also survived by his three siblings, Lawrence Dale of Colorado Springs, Colo., Janet Hirsh of Appleton, Wis., and Virginia Aja of Bradenton, Fla. Calling hours will be held at the Barber and Lanier Funeral Home 139 Main Street, Montpelier on Wednesday, June 18, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. A Memorial Service will follow on June 19 at 1 p.m. in the Vermont College Chapel. , of the Red Village Road in Lyndon and of Essex, Conn., passed away Sunday morning June 15, 2008, at her home surrounded by her loving family at the age of 90. She was born in Winthrop, Conn., July 30, 1917, the daughter of Frederick and Louise (Koch) Lewis. She was predeceased by her husband Raymond R. Clark Sr. on June 5, 1992. In 1969 the Clarks bought Meadowbrook Farm. They came to Lyndon from Essex, Conn.; there they operated Economy Oil Co. and were members of the Centerbrook Congregational Church. Her family was always the main focus of her life. She is survived by five children: Raymond R. Clark Jr. and wife Jacqueline of Lyndon, Faye Heath and husband Bob of Lyndon, Donald Clark and wife Pam of Hewitt, Wis., Paul Clark of Ivoryton, Conn., Patty Therrien and husband Dennis of St. Johnsbury; seven grandchildren: Colleen and Michelle; Rob Jr. and Kelly; Michael, Kevin, and Tracy; 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Her remains will be buried at the Centerbrook Cemetery in Essex, Conn. , 75, of East Main Street, Lunenburg, died Monday morning, June 16, 2008, at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster, N.H. Wenmark was born in Clinton, Mass., on Nov. 24, 1932, the son of William and Flora (Schreiner) Wenmark. In 1951 he graduated from Westwood High School, Westwood, Mass., and then worked in landscaping and the manufacturing and quality control of early computers. Later he acquired his real estate license and worked as a broker in Massachusetts. In 1977 he retired moving to Lunenburg where he tended family lawns and gardens. John was a 29-year trustee and 24-year secretary at Riverside Cemetery in Lunenburg. He was a 50-year member of the Meridian Masonic Lodge and the Parker Royal Arch Chapter of Natick, Mass. His hobbies included candlepin bowling, attending thoroughbred and harness racing, cribbage and watching football, basketball and baseball. He leaves his wife Carol Stuart Wenmark of Lunenburg; nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, and was blessed with many friends. At John's request there are no visiting hours. Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
