, of Watervliet, N.Y., died in Samarian Hospital on Wednesday, Oct. 8. She was 90. She was born in St. Francois, Quebec. She married Edward Gagne in 1940 and lived in Waterford, Vt. for 49 years. After her husband's death she moved to Newport, Vt., and later to Watervliet. She is survived by her six children, Helen Flynn, of New York, Paul Gagne, in Alabama, Lucille Harris, in Arkansas, Norman Gagne in Vermont, Bernard Gagne, also in Vermont, and Marie Myers in California; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Marie was predeceased by 12 siblings. Funeral services will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family.
Persis Tiffany

of Medina, Ohio, died peacefully on Oct. 18 after a lengthy battle with lung cancer. She was 84 years old. Persis was a faithful wife to Roger Tiffany for 57 years. She was a devoted mother to Elizabeth (Marc) Jones of Reno, Nev.; Meredith (Bob) Vidman of Colchester, Conn.; Susan Tiffany of Ambridge, Penn.; and loving grandmother to Race Vidman, Apple Valley, Minn., and Madison Vidman, Burnsville, Minn. Persis was an elegant woman who was known for her warmth and generosity, unique sense of humor, and love of cooking. She and Roger often enjoyed square dancing and contra dancing, shared a love of nature, a wide repertoire of music and travel. Persis was born in Woodsville, N.H., the daughter of Hermon and Ruth Griffin, and sister to Eldred Griffin, Bellflower, Calif.; Carlisle Griffin (deceased); Francis Griffin, Westborough, Mass.; and Ruth Ann Griffin, Bristol, Conn; and aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 146 College St., Wadsworth, Ohio. , of Fairplay, Colo., died Oct. 16, 2008. He was born Feb. 1, 1959, in Ottawa, Kan., to Terry and Ann Wood. On Oct. 1, 1994, Roger married Shawna Masure, formerly from Wheelock, Vt. They lived in Alaska, Kansas, Wyoming and finally settled in Colorado. Roger was a hard worker. He was a sawmill operator, mechanic and a home builder. If anyone needed help he was the first to lend a hand, even though he had a hard time accepting help. He had a keen sense of humor that continued until his death. If one of his family asked for help with something he knew they could do, he would always say "What would you do if you were the only person on earth?" Roger dearly loved his family and was looking forward to spending time with his two grandsons, Zachary and Harper, both born this past summer. He had already fixed up tool boxes for each of them. Roger is survived by his loving wife, Shawna; son Travis and his wife Amy and son Zachary of New York, N.Y.; daughter Tamara and her husband Aaron Lockhart of Yates Center, Kan.; daughter Tosha (Farman) Wood and son Harper of Buena Vista, Colo.; father Terry Wood of Chanute Kan.; mother and stepfather Ann and Elmer Jarboe of Colorado Springs, Colo.; brother David Wood and wife Julia of Lebo, Kan.; sister Sheri and husband Dan Loepke of North Bend, Wash.; sister Julianna Cazzelle of Colorado Springs; sister Elke and husband Adam Barker of Salt Lake City, Utah; and also many loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Roger was predeceased by his brother Arlie Wood, grandparents Ballard and Gladys Wood and Harry and Winefred Holmes. Roger will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by all who knew him. , 58, of East Burke, passed away Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, at the Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital following a long illness. Born Jan. 9, 1950, in St. Johnsbury. Lester grew up in Burke Hollow and graduated from Lyndon Institute in 1968. He married Janet DesRochers and they had two sons. Janet and Lester later divorced. Lester remarried Audrey Williams on Dec. 12, 1992. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard reaching the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He always enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting pool with his boys, and dancing, especially the polka and a good two-step. Lester was a pilot, trucker, an EMT and a pastor for awhile, he had what one would call a diverse life and tried just about anything at least once. He even bought a plane on Ebay. Lester was a member of the Tom Breslin Center and the VFW. He worked at Kennametal, as a machinist from 1987-2007. Lester is survived by his wife, Audrey of East Burke, his mother, Lucille LaRock of Burke Hollow, his son Michael and (wife) Lisa Batchelder of East Haven, his son Jason and (wife) Heather Batchelder of Sheffield, a special aunt Laura Drown of Burke Hollow and her son Dennis and (wife) Linda Drown, step children include: Francis Williams Jr., Steven and Brenda Gadapee, Brian and Wendy Williams, and Jeffrey Williams. He was better known as "Poppy" by his 10 grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was predeceased by an uncle Gordon Drown and a grandson Gabe Heywood. Lester (Pah) will be greatly missed. He always had "the time of day" and a shoulder to lean on if you needed one. You could always depend on Pah, no matter what. Calling hours will be Tuesday evening between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Pearsons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 2 p.m. at Pearsons Funeral Home, followed by a "celebration of his life" at Ma & Pah's. , 75, of 246 Sunset Drive in St. Johnsbury passed away at home Monday, Oct. 20, 2008, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Montpelier on Sept. 11, 1933, the son of Francis and Ella (Bryce) Ducker. His first wife, Patricia Brierley Ducker, passed away in 2003. His younger years were spent in Hardwick where he graduated from Hardwick Academy in 1951. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his older brother James. Fred was proud to have served in the United States Air Force for 20 years (1951-1971). He was a flight radio operator and was stationed principally in Germany, but also saw much of the world. He served 25 years as state police dispatcher in St. Johnsbury. He is survived by his wife Patricia Wilkins Ducker whom he married New Years Day in 2004; his two children Shannon Budziak and husband Tim of Albany, Sean Ducker and wife Brenda of Lyndonville; four step-children, Diane Blasi and husband Paul of Oklahoma City Okla., Richard Kittredge and wife Diane of Lyndonville, Theodore Broome and fiancée Dana Smalley of Concord, and Laura Morehouse and husband Robert of Concord; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sister Stella Brownell and husband Milton of Hoosic Falls, N.Y.; and nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 11 a.m., at the Vermont Veterans Cemetery in Randolph. , 87, of West Charleston passed away on Oct. 20, 2008, at the home of her daughter. She was born on Aug. 27, 1921, a daughter of William and Cora (Batchelder) Moulton. On Oct. 27, 1943, she married Dale Davis who predeceased her. Mrs. Davis is a member of the East Charleston Church of the Nazarene. Among her hobbies were cooking, knitting, reading, crocheting, and taking care of her grandchildren. She was a cook for Camp Winape in Charleston. Alice is survived by nine children, Marlene Stevens and her husband Joseph of Charleston, Margaret Colburn of Derby, Mark Davis and his wife Sherry of Lakeland, Fla., Martin Davis and his wife Genie of Charleston, Karen Mahoney and her husband Brennan of Midlothian, Va., Greta Warner of Derby, Kristen Powers and her husband Marshall of Paulden, Ariz., Fred Davis of Charleston, and Rod Davis and his wife Shirley of Derby; grandchildren Richard, Brian and David Stevens, Lena Seckman, Faith Hoffman, Duane and Jason Colburn, Debbie Heald, Julie Gaboriault, Anthony and Annie Davis, Eric, Steven Davis, Jennifer Turgeon, Jamie and David Colburn, Patrick, Michael, Molly and Cassie Mahoney, David and Aaron Warner, Michelle Badertscher, Heather, Marissa, Corey and Connor Davis; 20 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. , 79, died on Oct. 20, 2008, at Cottage Hospital. Helen was born in West Fairlee Center, Aug. 22, 1929, the daughter of Fred W. and Marion (Blake) Brown. Helen married Ernest George on Sept. 14, 1947. She worked at the Silver Maple Lodge in Fairlee when she was younger. Helen and Ernest were part of the founders of the Calvary Baptist Church in Woodsville, N.H., and the Church was a very large part of her life. Helen loved her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and they all held a very special place in her heart. She loved her flowers, feeding the wild birds and the many animals. Helen had taken painting classes, and was very blessed at painting crafts. She loved cooking for her family and friends. Helen and Ernest spent many hours hunting and fishing together. She was predeceased by three children, Ernest George, Jr., Deborah George, and Roger George; two sisters, Dorothy Driscoll and Hazel Placey; and two brothers, Philip Brown and Fred Brown, Jr. Survivors include her husband of 61 Years, Ernest H. George, Sr.; seven children, Walter George of McIndoe Falls, Mark George of Charlestown, N.H., Marion Stapelfield of Ryegate, Daniel George of Woodsville, N.H., Elizabeth Nunn of Cabot, Thomas George of Monroe, N.H., and Dorothy Parker of Bath, N.H.; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. , 94, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 21, at the Greensboro Nursing Home in Greensboro. Ida was born Oct. 13, 1914, in Marshfield, the daughter of Oscar and Jenny (Bullock) Bemis. She married Ira Rathburn Oct. 6, 1934, he passed away Oct. 13, 1972, after 38 years of marriage. On April 11, 1973, she married John Morrison who predeceased her on Jan/ 30, 1981. Ida practiced nursing at Hardwick Hospital, later she was a seamstress working at Ware Knitters in Hardwick. For a period of time she lived in Lennoxville, Quebec, returning to Hardwick in 1979. She enjoyed embroidery, crossword puzzles and spending time with her family and friends. She will be sadly missed by those who knew her. Ida's survivors include four daughters, Regina Nardone of Charlton, Mass., Gladys Kimball and her husband Allen of Craftsbury, Elizabeth Hay of Hardwick and Barbara Barry and her husband Bill of Bergenfield, N.J. Also surviving are many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great- great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter Esther and a son Gordon. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 1, 11 a.m., in Hope Church South Walden. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery Hardwick. , 76, beloved husband of Barbara Bartley and owner of the McDonald's Restaurant passed away on Oct. 21, 2008, at the North Country Hospital in Newport surrounded by his family. He was born on Sept. 21, 1932, in Presque Isle, Maine, a son of Ralph Willis and Josephine (Sanborn) Bartley. He graduated from Torrington High School in Torrington, Conn., and received a bachelor's degree in Business from the University of Connecticut. On Sept. 7, 1959, he married Barbara McCann who survives him. In October 1973, Winston and Barbara opened the Derby McDonald's Restaurant location, and later purchased the Littleton, N.H., location in 1977 and the St. Johnsbury location in July of 1994. In July of 1995 they established the Lyndonville franchise. Winston loved his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed restoring his Farmall tractors, and collecting antique cars. He especially loved spending time with his customers at McDonald's. He was a member of the Newport Elks Lodge, and a former member of Newport Masonic Lodge. He was also a former Board of Directors of the Lyndonville Saving Bank. He also was on of the organizers of the Newport Band Stand. He is survived by his wife Barbara Bartley of Derby; by his children, Brian David Bartley of Derby, Winston Merrial Bartley, Jr., and his fiancée Tammy Crowe of Derby, Elizabeth Ann Willey and her husband Greg of Derby, and James Kelley Bartley and his fiancée Denise Kennedy of Newport; by his cherished grandchildren, Travis and his fiancée Johanna, Logan, Drew, Austin, Meagan, Alyssa, Matthew, Bailey, Ronnie, and Brooke; by his cherished great-grandchildren Colton and Madyson; by James Spooner, of Derby, who Winston thought of as a son; by several nieces and nephews; and by a dear friend Armand Fornier of Derby. He was predeceased by the following brothers Adelbert, Parker, Cecil, and Elwood Bartley. , 57, of Melcher Street in Groveton, N.H., died Wednesday morning, Oct. 22, 2008, at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster, N.H. Virginia was born in Lancaster on Dec. 30, 1950, a daughter of Charles E. Hodge and Faye (Emerson) Hodge. Ginny was raised in Lancaster and was a 1968 graduate of White Mountain Regional High School. She worked at Weeks Hospital as a certified nursing assistant and in 1987 she moved to Florida, where she worked at nursing homes in St. Petersburg and Tampa. In 1998 she returned to the North Country. Family members include her three children, Lawrence Wallace and his wife Danielle of Barnstead, Amy Lee Wallace and her fiancée Frank DelGrego of Lunenburg, and Shawn Wallace and his wife Tracy of Columbia; sisters Mary Kenison of Lancaster, Cathy Bishop of Lancaster, Sally Morris of Orleans, Vt., and Dottie Hodgdon of Guildhall; a brother Stephen Hodge Sr. of Groveton; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and aunts, uncles, several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents and a sister Charlene Ruth. Visiting hours will be held Friday afternoon and evening Oct. 24, from 2 to 4 p.m., and 6-8 p.m., at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. , 60, of St. Johnsbury, passed away Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 22, 2008, at his home on Lafayette Street with his family by his side. He was born in Newton, Mass., Oct. 31, 1947, the son of John D. Wallstrom Sr. and Helen (Rockwood) Wallstrom. He married Suzanne Daigneault April 21, 1973. Jack delivered products for Kilfasset Farms for 20 years, and later for Koffee Kup Bakery, Pepperidge Farms and Little Debbie Snacks. He was camp counselor at Camp Billings for over 30 years. Jack was a people person with a good sense of humor. He loved the ocean, the coast of Maine, and camping at Groton State Park, Brighton State Park, and seasonal camping at Fransted Campground in Franconia. He is survived by his wife Suzanne (Daigneault) Wallstrom; his two sons John D. Wallstrom III and fiancée Rosemond of St. Johnsbury, and Timothy Wallstrom of St. Johnsbury. He was eagerly awaiting the birth of his first grandchild, John D. Wallstrom IV, in March. He is also survived by his mother Helen Wallstrom of Auburndale Mass.; his brother Peter Wallstrom and wife Diane of Lebanon, Maine; his sister Anne Frietas and husband John of Auburndale Mass.; nieces and nephews; aunts and uncles; and dear friend Brian Ladd. On Suzanne's side, he is survived by his father and mother-in-law, Lionel and Eleanor Daigneault of St. Johnsbury; five brothers and sisters-in-law Albert and Johnna Daigneault of St. Johnsbury, Therese and Ben Fried of Cleveland Ga., Denise and Shawn Russell of Bristol Conn., Normand and Linda Daigneault of St. Johnsbury, and Annette and Doug Ruffner of St. Johnsbury; and of course his canine companion Sasha. , 91, died on Oct. 22, 2008, at the Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, N.H. He was born in Irasburg, Vt., July 18, 1917, the son of Arthur B. and Katie (Lanou) LaBounty. Guy married Madeline Rosetta Hood on March 30, 1939. He was the farm manager and grounds foreman at the Glencliff Home for the Elderly, Glencliff, N.H., from 1942-1977. Guy worked at the Nelson Farm in Ryegate from 1978-1986. He was a trustee and moderator for the Newbury Bible Church for many years. He was a member of the NRA, Gideon International, Blue Mountain Grange, Moosilaukee Grange and the Groton Historical Society. Guy and his family lived in Glencliff from 1942-1977 before moving to his present home in Ryegate. He was predeceased by his wife, Madeline R. LaBounty on Sept. 23, 2003, and by his brother Marvin Labounty and sister his Ruth Smith. Survivors include a son, Gary LaBounty of Edmonds, Wash.; a daughter, Donna Stewart of Seattle, Wash.; three grandchildren, Kevin Stewart, Tania Vonbarkenhagen, and Sonia Stewart; thre great-grandchildren, Robert Stewart, Anthony Stewart, and Nicole Stewart; and a nephew, Glen Smith. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 1, at 11 a.m., at the Ryegate Presbyterian Church, Ryegate Corner, Vt., with Rev. Dr. M. Catherine Cook officiating. The burial will be private.

, 77, of Island Pond, died suddenly Oct. 25, 2008, at his home in Island Pond. He was born Feb. 5, 1931, in Colebrook, N.H., a son of Earl and Margaret (Edwards) Gray. On Sept. 15, 1962, he married Roena Daniels who died Dec. 1, 2006. Earl graduated from Canaan Memorial High School. He was a retired truck driver and was employed for Harley Moulton Milk Trucking and also for Prouty and Miller. He was a veteran of the Korean War. Earl held membership with the American Legion Post 80 of Island Pond, the Island Pond Historical Society and the Community Circle with Community National Bank. He enjoyed sightseeing, family gatherings and he was the patriach of the Gray Family. He is survived by the following sisters and brother: Marilyn Wade of Island Pond, Gleigh Heath and her husband William of Island Pond, Anna Johnson of Orleans, Patricia Gray of St. Johnsbury, Charlotte Gunn of Island Pond, Virginia Wing and her husband Alan of Island Pond, Niles Gray and his wife Monique of Island Pond, sisters-in-law Gunda Gray of Danville, and Helen Corliss of Island Pond and by numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by an Aunt Althea Gray of Canaan. He was predeceased by a brother Glenn Gray and a niece Wendy Gray and a nephew Konrad "Conny" Gray. , 65, of Williams Lane, Littleton, N.H., a longtime Littleton businessman, passed away Friday, Oct. 24, at his home with his family by his side after a year-long battle with cancer. John was born Aug. 12, 1943, son of Bernard and Eva (Lablanc) Hagan in North Concord, Vt. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Merlene of Littleton. Two daughters, Elynor Gardner and husband Scott of Littleton and Earlene Patneaude and husband William of Dalton and a son John J. Hagan Jr. and wife Jessica of Littleton. Grandchildren Brent and Jennifer Gardner; Kerbi, Joseph and Jacob Patneaude; Brett and Josslyn Hagan; great-grandchildren John and Alexis. Three sisters Mary Cassidy of Hinesburg, Vt., Margaret Donovan of Gilmmanton, N.H., and Irene Oliver, Freeport, Maine; several nieces and nephews; sister and brother-in-law, Georgia and Tom Golden of Melborn, Fla. John was predeceased by his brothers James and Michael Hagan, a sister Arlene Payette and his parents. John and his wife established Hagan's Manufactured Housing in 1972, which continues today as a family owned and operated business. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. John's interests include camping, fishing, his antique cars and pickup. Most of all he enjoyed his family and helping others. , 65, passed away unexpectedly at DHMC in Lebanon after a very brief illness. He was born in Waterford on Sept. 10, 1943, the son of Dean and Eula (Hall) Willson. He is survived by his four children Janet, Timothy, Daniel and Allen; his brother Larry Willson and wife Dot, sisters Dorothy Dodge and husband Fred, Linda Cushing and husband George; uncle Bruce Willson; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 29, at the Union Baptist Church located in Waterford on Route 5 South. Burial will follow at the Riverside Cemetery in Lower Waterford. Visiting hours will be held at the Sayles Funeral Home Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. Memorial contributions could be directed to the Waterford Fire Department.
