George R. Quimby

, 72, died at his home in East Concord, on Nov. 18, 2008. Mr. Quimby was born in Colebrook, N.H., on May 25, 1936, the son of Leo and Bernice (Parker) Quimby. George attended Stratford High School. He went on to serve in the U. S. Air force. In 1965 he moved to Connecticut, working for several years as a truck driver for Francini Construction. After retiring in 2003 he moved to East Concord. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and being at home; he especially enjoyed company stopping by to visit. He was a member of the Oxford, Connecticut American Legion. Family members include his wife of 49 years Rosalie (Minkler) Quimby; two sons, Michael Quimby and Shawn Quimby both of Oxford, Conn.; a daughter Pamela Nitsche and her husband of Shelton, Conn.; three grandchildren, Michael Quimby Jr. of Oxford, Shawn Michael Nitsche and Mark Andrew Nitsche both of Shelton. His son George "Butch" Quimby Jr. predeceased him in 1983. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. , 85, of Bradford, and a long time resident of Newbury, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., surrounded by his family. He was born in Newbury on Dec. 27, 1922, the son of Leonard Wallace and Mary Mae (Meyette) Rollins. He attended schools in Newbury and graduated from Newbury High School in 1941. He served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. Charles farmed, worked at Bath, N.H., Fiberboard, and East Ryegate Paper Mill, owned Kenhensha Lodge in Wells River, and for over 20 years was a Rural Carrier for the United States Postal Service in Wells River. He was a member and past president of the American Legion Post #78, of Newbury, and served as a lister for the town of Newbury for 16 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, TV Westerns and sports. He is survived by his wife Beverly Rollins of Bradford; three daughters, Eva Ciampaglia of Northfield, Sarah Demars of Wells River, and Robin Rowell of Bradford; three sons, David Rollins of Allenstown, N.H., Matthew Rollins of Bradford, and Stephen Rollins of Las Vegas, Nev.; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Rollins of Barre, and Bertha Burroughs of Newbury. Charles was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Mae Towle and Elsie Bailey; three brothers, Leonard Jr., Robert and William Henry Rollins; and his beloved dog, Nipper. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Nov. 21, 2008, at 1 p.m., at Hale Funeral Home, Upper Plain, Bradford, with Rev. Bill Wick officiating. Visiting hours will be held from noon to 1 p.m. the day of the service. , 88, of North Monroe, N.H., passed away on Nov. 16, 2008, at the Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital, St. Johnsbury, Vt. He was born Aug, 27, 1920, on Mountain View Farm in North Monroe. Philip attended elementary school in Monroe, McIndoe Academy, and the University of New Hampshire. Upon returning to his family's farm, he married Betty Jane Pierce, the love of his life. They were married 58 years. Together they planned, sacrificed and worked to increase the size of the pure bred Jersey herd, and maintained a beautiful, productive dairy. He strove to meet the challenges of raising six children, providing a safe, happy home. His wife and children were his reason to exist, and he worked to provide the best life possible for them. He was proud of their accomplishments and did everything within his power to protect them and to assure that they could have happy, successful lives. His brothers and sister were his best friends and were loved dearly, always living within a few miles of each other both in Monroe and Florida, through many happy winter retirement years. He loved living in this world and wanted to see it all, traveling to Europe several times, and extensively in the United States and Canada. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, bagging spectacular white tail bucks and catching Atlantic salmon and trout. Philip exemplified hard work, respect for nature, acute business acumen, and love of his family. He believed in living life until he died. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert F. Ward and Hazel Smith Ward; his older brother Linfield Ward and wife, Sarah; younger brother, Homer; brother-in-law, Rodney Stanton; and sister-in-law, Doris Ward. He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter Linda Clark and son-in-law, James Clark of Monroe, N.H.; daughter, Sharon Ward of Monroe; daughter, Pamela Van Den Berg and son-in-law, James Van Den Berg of Green Bay, Wis.; son, Gary Ward, and Tina Yourison of Monroe; son, Philip Michael Ward, and Teri Dexter of Littleton, N.H.; son, Bryan Ward of Monroe. His grandchildren are Abby Thomas and husband, Wilson Thomas of Danville, Vt.; Cadet Second Class Michael Clark of West Point, N.Y.; Coast Guardsman MK2 Casey Locke of York, Maine; and high school senior Kyle Ward of Plymouth and Monroe. His great-grandchildren are Wilder Thomas, who recently taught his great-grandfather to dance again; and newly arrived great-granddaughter, Aven Thomas. He is also survived by his brother, Leslie Ward of Monroe; brother Norman Ward and sister-in-law Eve Ward of Monroe; sister Mary Stanton of Monroe; sister-in-law, Jean Wakefield of Lyndonville, Vt.; sister-in-law, Colleen Kerr and husband Tom of Waitsfield, Vt.; and sister-in-law, Janice Trush and husband Paul of Lyndonville. Also surviving are many cousins, nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be Saturday, Nov. 22, at 11 a.m., at the Monroe Community Church in North Monroe. , 75, passed away on Nov. 14, 2008. Pat was born on April 16, 1933 in Landaff, N.H., the forth child of Margaret and Frank Malone. She attended the "Blue School" in Landaff and high school in nearby Lisbon, N.H. She married the love of her life on Christmas Eve in 1951 and soon afterwards began the peripatetic life of a military wife. While raising their two sons, she made comfortable and welcoming homes in Enid, Okla.; West Palm Beach, Fla.; Fairfield, Calif.; Tachikawa, Japan; Yuba City, Calif.; Stuttgart, Germany; San Antonio, Texas; Colorado Springs, Colo.; and Phoenix, Ariz. Wherever she went, she quickly made friends and admirers with her warmth, thoughtfulness, and quick and brilliant smile. She loved the sun and spent many scorching summer days with her boys on the shores of Camp Far West Reservoir. She worked hard, holding several jobs over the years to support her family, but her spotlessly clean and tidy home was the site of countless grand Thanksgiving and Christmas feasts. Many were the recipients of her wickedly delicious rum cakes. In recent years, Pat was a member of the Red Hat Society, whose women took her under their warm, maternal wings and provided her with friendship and good cheer. She is preceded in death by her beloved son, Loren, from whose loss she never completely recovered; and brother Frank Malone of Dover, N.H. She is survived by devoted husband Bill (William); son Matthew; daughter-in-law Shelly; and grandchildren Ryan and Julia of Minneapolis. She is also survived by grandchild Erin Jean of San Antonio; as well as siblings, Phoebe Duval, of Waco, Texas; Gladys Walsh of Ocala, Fla.; Janie Huntoon of Monroe, N.H.; and baby brother Daniel of Enfield, Conn.

, age 98, of Littleton, N.H., passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, at the Lafayette Center in Franconia, N.H. The family will receive friends on Friday evening, Nov. 21, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the Pillsbury Funeral Home located at 101 Union St. in Littleton. , 21, of South Burlington, died unexpectedly on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, in Charlotte. Charles Ryan Frazier son, brother, father, husband and friend was a blessing to all of us. He touched us deeply with his loving ways, his kind and generous heart and his quiet thoughtful manner. Ryan was born in Boulder, Colo., on Feb. 18, 1987, the son of Karen (Brunson) Frazier and the late Craig Frazier. He spent his childhood with his mother and brothers in Colorado and South Carolina. His family relocated to Vermont when Ryan was 12. He lived in Barnet and St. Johnsbury and went to high school at the St. Johnsbury Academy. During high school Ryan worked at many jobs, including the Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital, Kham's Thai Cuisine and Breaktime sandwich shop. He volunteered in the community as a youth mentor and assisted at smoking cessation classes. He graduated with honors from St. Johnsbury Academy in 2005. He completed two years of studies at the University of Connecticut and University of Vermont where he maintained honors status as a triple major in accounting, finance and business administration. While in Connecticut he began working full-time at the Verizon Wireless call center. He was a record-setting employee and received several promotions within his first year before transferring his job to South Burlington, Vt. Several weeks before his high school graduation, Ryan proposed to his high school sweetheart Emily Askren and they were married on Feb. 25, 2006, in St. Johnsbury. They bought their first home in South Burlington in December 2006. On June 24, 2007, they were blessed with the birth of their son, August Christopher. Ryan had endless love and energy for August, making up countless games and dances that only the two of them shared. He loved his family selflessly and tirelessly, strengthening them with his faith as a Christian and leading them in prayer together every day. At this time, Emily is expecting their second child. He loved and cared for his mother, brothers, extended family and family-in-law with all that he was capable of. He always took the time to help both strangers and friends when they had a need, no matter how big or small that need was. We have all lost such an irreplaceable gift in Ryan and know that heaven has gained a precious soul. Ryan is survived by his wife Emily Frazier and his son August Christopher of South Burlington; his mother Karen Frazier of St. Johnsbury; two brothers Tao Young of St. Johnsbury and Christopher Frazier and his wife Jessica Park Frazier of New York, N.Y.; paternal grandmother Hope Frazier of Alexandria, Va.; maternal grandfather Charles Brunson of Charleston, S.C.; mother-in-law Carrie Askren of South Starksboro; father-in-law David Askren of St. Johnsbury; sister-in-laws Natalie Askren and Laurel Askren; his dear friend Patrick Langley; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He also leaves his expected child. He was predeceased by his father Craig Frazier. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at 10 a.m. in St. John Vianney's Roman Catholic Church with burial to follow in Resurrection Park Cemetery. , age 65, of Dalton, N.H., passed away on Nov. 20, at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. Rick was born on May 26, 1943, a son to Richard H. Lillie, Sr. and Leona (Daine) Lillie in Natick, Mass. Rick lived in Mississippi for many years prior to moving to New Hampshire. He was a Commercial Fisherman for Captain Frank's Marina in Mississippi. He met and married his wife, Carole (Whittum) Lillie, and they resided on French Road in Dalton. He was a very generous and loving person. He always went out of his way to help anyone in need. He was a great fisherman. Rick was a good and caring father and loved doing things with his grandchildren and spending time with family and friends. He was always smiling and laughing. He loved going to Dunkin' Donuts every morning with his brother-in-law, Kevin and his son, Kenny. Surviving family members include one son, Richard Lillie III; a granddaughter, Megan Lillie; a great-grandson, Richard Lillie V; three stepsons, Michael Mitton and his wife, Susie, and their children Holly and Krysta from Vermont; Kenneth Mitton and his wife, Debbie, and their sons, Kenny and Brandon from Dalton; Christopher and his wife, Wanda, and their son, Cody from Mississippi; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was very close to his cousin, David Daine and his wife Debbie and their children of Littleton, N.H., as well as to his brother-in-law, Kevin Whittum, Sr. and his wife, Bonnie and their children of Dalton. He was predeceased by his wife and one son, Richard Lillie, II. A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, Nov. 24, at 1 p.m., in the Cushman Cemetery in Dalton with Rev. Ernest Wilkins officiating.

, 83, of Kinsman Road in Fitzwilliam, N.H., died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, at Langdon Place in Keene, N.H., following a period of declining health. She was born Aug. 26, 1925, in St. Johnsbury, Vt., daughter of the late Orange and Frances (Hebard) Ladd. Thea was a 1945 graduate of Green Mountain College in St. Johnsbury. She has been a resident of Fitzwilliam since 1955. Thea was a former employee of American Optical in Keene; and from 1975 until 2006, she worked at the Frank Massin Insurance Agency in Fitzwilliam. Thea was a very active member of the Fitzwilliam Community Church, UCC and was the church organist for more than forty five years. The church honored her as Organist Emeritus this past July. She enjoyed knitting and needle-work. She loved animals and especially her dog. Thea took pleasure in going to concerts and in her flower gardens. Survivors include her step-son Carmen M. Yon of Fitzwilliam; her step-daughter Portia E. Yon of Alpharetta, Ga.; three step-grandchildren Carmen M. Yon Jr. of Englewood, Colo., Eric R. Yon of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Andrew H. Yon of Centennial, Colo.; two step-great-grandchildren, Carmen M. Yon III and Natalie Clair Yon both of Englewood Colo. She was pre-deceased by her first husband John Carpenter and her second husband Howard G. Yon. As per her request, there will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at 11 a.m., in the Fitzwilliam Community Church UCC, General James Reed Highway (Route 119), Fitzwilliam. Rev. Lynda T. , 94, of Walden, died peacefully, Thursday evening, Nov. 20, 2008, at his residence. He was born Nov. 1, 1914, in Belvidere, the son of the late Wilbur and Julia (Greenwood) Brown. On June 5, 1937, he married Margaret Eva Green in Eastford, Conn. In his earlier years he was employed in the construction business as a heavy equipment operator on interstate highways, for Lane Construction in Meridith, Conn., Pulazzia Construction in New Hampshire and A.J. Orlando Construction. He later worked for H.G. Wood Lumber Mill in Bath, N.H., and Britton Lumber in Ely, Vt. For nine years he owned and operated Brown's Sawmill in Walden. He retired in 1980. He was a member of the International Union of operating engineers. Elwin enjoyed his workshop, making wooden toys for gifts, fishing, snowmobiling, gardening, country music and attending Antique Gas Engine Shows. Other enjoyments include: traveling, especially trips to Alaska. Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Margaret, of Walden; a daughter, Barbara Chambers of Chelsea; two sons, Elwin W. Brown Jr. of Valparaiso, Ind., and Allen Brown of North Hyde Park; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Newton Brown; and a sister, Katherine Brown. Visiting hours will be held Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Northern Vermont Funeral Home, 60 Elm Street, Hardwick. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the Walden Methodist Church in Noyesville. , of McIndoe Falls, passed away at home Wednesday evening, Nov. 19, 2008, surrounded by family and his ever-faithful dog Sammy. He was a quiet and unassuming man with great strength of character. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Bob was born in Staten Island, N.Y., Aug. 1, 1928, the son of Edwin J. and Katharine (Johnson) Kain. A freelance master ornamental firearms engraver, Bob did beautiful handcrafted custom work for the nation's gun makers. He was also the author of two books. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Alvina (Bosch); two daughters Leesa Thrall and husband Wally of McIndoe Falls, and Tamara Herrera and husband Jose Jacobo also of McIndoe Falls. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Sarah, Justin, and Megan; James and Daniel; and by a sister Ruth Hamby of Wardsboro. Last year he was predeceased by his son Erick. The family will observe their services privately. , 92 of West Burke passed away Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born April 9, 1916, in Battle Creek, Mich., to the late Ferd and Dora (LaPan) Wells. Alton was raised in Island Pond where his father worked on the railroad. He attended Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans and worked for A.G. Patte in Milton. He was a decorated Sergeant in WWII entering the Army in 1941; he fought in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. On Dec. 20, 1947, he married Leah Gray who predeceased him in October 2002. Alton and Leah made their home in East Burke, where he worked at the East Burke Mill, and then moved to West Burke where they raised their three children Raymond, Andrea and Fred. Alton then worked for Vermont Tap & Die and Northeast Tool before retiring. He was an avid hunter, trapper and angler who took great joy working outdoors especially in the woods. Alton's favorite place was on a pond, at his camp in Westmore or at home with his family, who he loved dearly. Survivors include his three children and their spouses, Raymond & Louise Wells of St. Johnsbury, Andrea and Roger Whitcomb of West Burke and Fred and Linda Wells of St. Johnsbury. His grandchildren Scott and Letissia True of West Burke, Susie and Travis Reed of Sheffield, Kristin and Gene Benton of Sutton and Bethany Whitcomb and her companion Rich Charron of Kirby. Four great-grandchildren, Devin True, Shelby and Kiele Benton and Wyatt Reed. Several step grandchildren, great-grandchildren and two nephews, James & Richard Wells, and their families. His cat Annie-Chlo also survives him. His parents, a brother Eldridge along with his two sons, George and Robert, and two infant sisters Edith and Laura, predeceased him. , 75, passed away on Nov. 20, 2008, in Yale New Haven Hospital, from complications following surgery. Lloyd was born in Island Pond, Vt., on Feb. 28, 1933, the son of the late Earle Wilson and Eva (Perkins) Randall and her second husband, George Randall. He will be forever missed by his wife, Gertrude (Austin) Wilson of Guilford, Conn.; his son Stephen Wilson of Santa Barbara, Calif.; and his daughters, Lynne Newberg of Ellington, Conn., and Lori Parisi of Guilford, Conn.; and four grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Earle Wilson of Manchester, Conn.; step-brothers, Earl Randall of Barton, Vt., and Neil Randall of Bradford, Vt.; and half-brother, Stewart Randall of Milton, Vt. He moved to Guilford three years ago after previously residing in Glastonbury and Manchester, Conn. Lloyd, a master electrician, founded Wilson Electrical Co., Inc. with his brother Earle in 1960 in Manchester, Conn. He was president of Wilson Electric until his retirement in 1998.

, 87, of 21 Ledges Drive, Laconia, N.H., died on Friday, Nov. 21, 2008, at the Lakes Region General Hospital. Mrs. Spaulding was born Nov. 16, 1921, in Concord, Mass., the daughter of Rollo Hale Brown and Freda (Sibley) Brown. While growing up, she lived in Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont with her parents. Mrs. Spaulding came to Laconia in 1938 with her parents and two brothers from St. Johnsbury, Vt., where she attended St. Johnsbury Academy for three years. Then being a resident of Laconia, she was a 1939 graduate of Laconia High School. Following graduation, she worked at the F. W. Woolworth Store, the Colonial Theater and Scott & Williams. In 1945, she joined the U. S. Women's Army Air Corps (WAAC). She received basic training at Des Moines, Iowa and Orlando, Fla. In April, 1946, she was married to Thorne E. Spaulding at East Burke, Vt. They resided in St. Johnsbury until moving to Beloit, Wis., in 1959. They came to Sanbornton, N.H., in 1975. In 1978, they bought a four-acre lot in Sanbornton, had a house built there and lived there for 10 years. In 1988, they moved to the Ledges in the Taylor Community. In her life time, she had visited 48 States, 20 of them for short periods of time. Her interests were genealogy, gardening, sewing, knitting and jigsaw puzzles. Mrs. Spaulding is survived by her husband of 62 years, Thorne E. Spaulding, of Laconia; a brother, Howard H. Brown, of Belmont, Mass.; four nieces, Brenda Lee Brown of Weirs Beach, N.H., Pamela B. Meehan of Arlington, Mass., Susan B. Russell of Henderson, Nev., and Toby J. Wright of Plantation, Fla.; two nephews, Curtis C. Brown of Draper, Va., and Jeffery V. Brown of Port Saint Lucie, Fla.; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Vernon Brown, of Fort Pierce, Fla. She was predeceased by her mother who died in 1957; her father in 1980; and younger brother in 2002. According to Mrs. Spaulding's wishes, calling hours and funeral service will be private. Burial will be in the family lot in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, St. Johnsbury.

, age 81, Littleton, N.H., passed away at his home on Old Partridge Lake Road on Thursday, Nov. 20. Wayne was born on April 16, 1927, a son to Briar and Cassandra (Lagee) Hartlen, in Canaan, N.H. Wayne served in the U. S. Army during World War II as a Military Policeman, specializing in rifle marksmanship. He earned the World War II Victory Medal and the Army Occupation Medal in Japan. He was a foreman for the Littleton Water and Light Company for several years. Surviving family members include his three daughters, Vicki Jo Hartlen, Diana Robin Kazmerski, and Vanya Prissilla Norman; two sons, Michael Peter Hartlen and William Herbert Hartlen; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Wanita and Bernice; many nieces and nephews; and very close friends Nita Hubbard and her children. He was predeceased by a son, David Wayne Hartlen in July of 1999. A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 26, at 1 p.m., in the Glenwood Cemetery in Littleton. A gathering will be held at the farm on the Partridge Lake Road following the service, family and friends welcome, bring a dish to pass, and join us in sharing the many memories as we celebrate Wayne's life. , 78, of Lititz, Pa., died Nov. 24, 2008, at Rheems Assisted Living Facility in Elizabethtown, Pa., following a long battle with heart disease and very short battle with cancer. She was born on July 8, 1930, in Waltham, Mass., the daughter of the late Charles and Hazel Taylor Gesner. On May 29, 1948, she married Curtis L. Cassady, her husband of 60 years. Myrna and Curt made their home in North Haverhill, N.H., West Rutland, Vt., and settled in Lititz 30 years ago. She is survived by her husband, Curtis Cassady, of Lititz; a son, Gary Cassady and his wife Sharon of Lititz; three daughters, Judi McCullough and her husband Danny of West Rutland, Vt.; Laurie Thompson and her husband Rick of Lititz; and Leanne Cassady of Lancaster, Pa.; a brother, Gordon Gesner and his wife Mildred of Texas and Colorado; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Charlene Goyette. A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be on Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at 2 p.m., at the Lancaster Brethren in Christ Church. The family will receive from 1 to 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Spring in Horsemeadow Cemetery, North Haverhill, N.H. , of St. Johnsbury, passed away Oct. 18, 2008, in Fort Collins, Colo., at the age of 94. She was born in Stanstead, Quebec, on May 4, 1914, and was the daughter of Clarence and Laura (Tilton) Libby. Her husband, William J. Brock, passed away Oct. 10, 1985. She had lived in the St. Johnsbury and Danville areas since 1930. Waver enjoyed her horses and was an active member of the St. Johnsbury Riding Club. A member of the Rebekahs and the Eastern Star, she was a homemaker until she started working at Maple Grove as a candy packer. She was always an avid knitter and donated many mittens, caps, and scarves to The Santa Fund for needy children. She moved out to Colorado for the first time in 2002 and made her home with David and Arlene until the summer of 2004. She missed St. Johnsbury and returned to be with her longtime friends - her last residence here was at the Colonial Apartments. For health reasons she returned to Colorado in September of 2006 to stay with David and Arlene. She is survived by her son David W. Brock and his wife Arlene of Fort Collins, (6731 Holyoke Center, 80525); two grandchildren Sarah Sikorski and husband Steve of Warren, Mich., Gregory D. Brock and wife Nina of Detroit, Mich.; three great-grandchildren Mona, Kirk and Maria Leach; two brothers George Hopkins and wife Tess of Windsor Locks, Conn., and Bickford C. Libby and wife Audrey of Orleans; and nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held next summer at the Danville Green Cemetery. , 12, of Walden died unexpectedly, Monday, Nov. 24, 2008. He was born Feb. 3, 1996, in St. Johnsbury, the son of Mark and Julie (Gallivan) Wright. He was a seventh grade student at Walden School. Brandon looked forward to attending school each day, especially to see his best friends, Hunter Bordeau and Cody Olcott. He was a very unique young man who enjoyed building, but mostly dismantling, B.B. guns, playing in the mud, animals, skiing, cooking and soccer, his hidden stash of Reese's Cups, and cub scouts. He took great pleasure in driving his own tractors and giving rides to his younger brother, sister and friends. Even though he was a 7th grader he had gotten a head start working on his 8th grade Capstone project by building a robot with the help of his younger sister, Alahni. He will be remembered as a very kind child with a big grin who loved nature camp, nature club and his Playstation. He was always optimistic, cheerful and saw the best in everyone. Survivors include his mother Julie Gallivan Parker and her husband, Steve, of Walden; his father Mark Wright of Hardwick; two brothers Cody Wright of Vergennes and Zachary Wright of Walden; two sisters Nikieya Cressey of Bowling Green, Ohio, and Alahni Wright of Walden; two nephews Alex and Damien of Bowling Green, Ohio; maternal grandparents Richard and Patricia Gallivan of Stewart, Fla., and Louise and Jim Fasulo of Corinth, N.Y.; paternal grandparents Eugene and Shirley Wright of Ashaway, R.I.; great-grandmother Ruth Wright of Ashaway, R.I.; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Norma Phyllis Weed Curtis

, 86, of Port Trevorton, Pa., passed away Nov. 19, 2008. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Allen F. Curtis. She was born in Wheelock, the daughter of George E. and Marion Mooney Weed. Norma and Allen farmed and drove school buses for many years in Sutton and West Burke and farmed in Barre before moving to Lancaster County, Pa., to farm with their sons. While in Vermont Norma was active in the Grange and the West Burke United Methodist Church, acting as Superintendent of Sunday Schools and teacher for many years. She also worked on several clinics to ensure that area children received polio immunizations. She was known for her excellent sewing, knitting and crocheting skills. She made beautiful Afghans for each of her four children and her 11 grandchildren. She was a member of Witmer United Methodist Church. She is also survived by her daughters, Gloria C. Huse and her husband Michael of Port Trevorton, Pa., and Joan C. Todd and her husband, Jack of Columbia, Pa.; sons Morrill A. Curtis and his wife Melody, and Richard A. Curtis and his wife, Cecelia of Port Trevorton; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother "Joe" Weed and his wife Kathryn of West Burke; and one sister Kay Lucy Byrne and her husband Jack of St. Johnsbury. She was predeceased in death by two brothers, Dale and Neal Weed. Bridget, as she was known by family and friends, will always be remembered for her warm, loving, gentle ways, her fine sense of humor, her love of music, her tremendous inner strength and wisdom and even more for her great love for her family and their great love for her. The Curtis Family will celebrate her life at a private family service in Port Trevorton on Nov. 29 with grave side services to be held at a later date in Sutton at the North Ridge Cemetery. , MD, age 95, internationally renowned orthopaedic surgeon, died in Birmingham, Ala., on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008. Born in 1913 in Barre, Vt., he was the son of Sarah and Samuel Gould, and was the second youngest of five brothers and one sister. A superb scholar, he graduated from Spaulding High School in 1931, the University of Vermont College of Medicine in 1937 and entered General Practice in Barnet, until May, 1941. After enlistment in the U.S. Army prior to Pearl Harbor, he was initially stationed in Iceland with American troops to protect the shipping lanes of the lend-lease program to England. In 1943, he was reassigned to England where he became the Chief of Orthopaedics at the 168th Station Hospital treating evacuated soldiers after D-Day and later even prisoners of war. He returned to the United States in 1945 and relocated his practice to St. Johnsbury until 1950 when he obtained his formal residency training in New York and Boston. After practicing at the Massachusetts General, he became the Chief of Orthopaedics at the Brockton Hospital in Massachusetts, remaining at that location until 1975. After a year with Care- Medico in Tunisia, North Africa treating children with club feet, the Dominican Republic, and finally in Israel as a foot and ankle consultant, he joined the full time faculty of the University of Vermont, Department of Orthopaedics in Burlington, where he remained for the next 10 years, retiring as Associate Professor Emeritus. In 1969, he initiated the founding of the American Orthopaedic Foot (and Ankle) Society and served as its third President. He was a founder of the Orthopaedic Research Society, Eastern Orthopaedic Association, New England Orthopaedic Society, and the Vermont Orthopaedic Society. He was cited by the City of Brockton, Massachusetts Hospital School, Prescription Footware Association, and the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society. He was recognized by Orthopaedics Today as its first selection for its "Pioneers in Orthopaedics" series, and by the University of Vermont Medical Alumni Association as its 2002 Academic Achievement Award recipient. Always active in community affairs, he was the Coach-Manager of the Pro Amateur Basketball team in Barnet (1939-1940), President of the St Johnsbury Yankees Baseball Club in the Northern League (1949-1950), a member of the Elks, Masons, and an active Rotarian, and President of the Reform Temple in St. Johnsbury (1948-1950). In Boca Raton, Fla., where he and his wife lived after retirement until three years ago, he served on the community Board, concerned with buildings and grounds, headed the memorial tree activity, and volunteered with the sheriff's security patrol. An avid golfer, he could always outplay his children and most of his golfing partners. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Edith Marion Spiller Gould, Spaulding '31, and UVM '35 whom he first met as a schoolmate in the eighth grade; his brother, Morris Gould of Northampton, Mass.; his sons, Dr. John S. Gould (Sheryl) of Birmingham, Ala., and C. Joseph Gould (Jennifer) of Newport, R.I.; daughter, Sara Jane von Trapp (Thomas Goelz) of Redding, Conn.; grandchildren Elisabeth Rachel Fowler (Mike) of Birmingham, Dr. Katherine Rebecca Mathews (Joe Bill) of Webster, N.C., Dr. Carolyn Virginia Burton (David) of Atlanta, Ga., John William Nathaniel Gould (Alexandra) of Franklin, Tenn., Joshua Kimball Gould (Candice) of Salem, Mass., Matthew Jeremy Gould of Charleston, S.C., Alexandra Kimball Munzel (Greg) of Charleston, S.C., Kate Emily von Trapp of Burlington, Vt., Jakob Benjamin von Trapp of Atlanta, Ga., Rebecca Whitehead von Trapp of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and seven great-grandchildren. , of the Colonial Apartments in St. Johnsbury, passed away Nov. 22, 2008, at NVRH at the age of 76. He was born in St. Johnsbury, Sept. 13, 1932, the son of Leland and Dorothy (Russ) Hovey. After serving 16 years in the Navy, Bill went on to a career with the Library of Congress as a linguistics specialist. He is survived by a few cousins. The family observed a brief committal service at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

, age 91, a true Vermonter and life-long resident of Sutton and West Burke, passed away Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008, in Church Hill, Tenn. Born Jan. 21, 1916, in Barton, son of the late Eldon and Estella LaClair, he married Frances Lawson. She predeceased him Feb. 4, 2004. In his early years he worked in the C. C. Camps, and went on to become a farmer and logger in Sutton and West Burke. Francis followed his wife to Delaware where she taught school. As he had a strong love for farming and logging, he worked the farmers market selling fruits and vegetables in their seasons, and Christmas trees during the holidays, before retiring to Ocala, Fla. He enjoyed card playing and golf. Francis is survived by five children and three step children, Keith LaClair and wife Nancy of New Castle, Del., Kermit LaClair and wife Diane of Williston, Brenda LaClair of Jefferson, Jean Dotzler and husband Dan of Church Hill, Tenn., Ted LaClair and wife Maria of Newark, Del., Richard Simpson and wife Tania of Glendale, Calif., Rev. Barbara Dwyer and husband Reg of Lyndonville, Marilyn Angiyou and husband Paul of Purvungnituk, Quebec, Canada; a brother, Wayne LaClair of Summerland, Fla.; several grand, great-grand and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth and a sister, Marilyn Wheeler. Agraveside service will be held in the Spring at the Sutton Village Cemetery.

, 49, of St. Johnsbury, passed away at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008. He was born in St. Johnsbury, Aug. 4, 1959, the son of David and Patricia (Ash) Leach. He graduated from Concord High School with the class of 1978. After high school Benny served in the Navy for four years. He was a heavy equipment operator for several construction companies, principally for H.E. Sargent Co. He was a diehard NASCAR fan and dreamed of someday owning and operating his own Peterbilt tractor trailer truck. He is survived by his daughter Christen Phifer and two grandsons, Isaiah and Elijah, of Charlotte N.C.; his mother Pat Sorrell and husband Bill of Kannapolis N.C.; two sisters, Karen Wright and husband Bill of Roanoke Va., and Kerrie Sue Smith and husband Stephen of Concord, N.C.; his nieces and nephews, Alicia and Danielle, Stephanie ("Kiddo") and Stephen, Nathan, Devin, and Dylan; and his aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter, Sarah; his father David C. Leach Sr.; his brother David C. Leach Jr.; and his nephew David C. Leach III. His beloved dog Spike passed away a year ago this week. Family interment services will be held at the family lot at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. The family asks that flowers be omitted.
