, 73, passed away in Barton on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, surrounded by her loving family and members of the Orleans Fire Department. The firemen gave her a final salute out of respect for their dispatcher. She was born on April 23, 1935, on the Arthur Butler homestead in Irasburg. Her parents were the late Arthur W. Landers Butler and Glenna M. Huntington Butler. For the first two years of school, she walked to the Burton Hill Country School, until it closed. Then she was bussed to the Irasburg Elementary School. During this time, her father was the Irasburg Town Road Commissioner. Annette assisted the family with farm chores, while three of her brothers were serving in World War II. During her high school years at Orleans High School, she boarded at Gordon and Barbara Spencer's. During one summer, Annette worked as a waitress at the Alpine Hotel in North Woodstock, N.H. At this time, she met Emile Lapierre of Orleans, and they were married on June 27, 1953, who predeceased her on Nov. 3, 2008. Annette graduated from O.H.S. in June of 1953. Annette and her husband Emile lived with his Great Aunt Idell Taylor and they operated the filling station and a small country store - where today the Sunoco One Stop is - for five years until it was sold to the Sunoco Oil Company. Their first two children, Connie Marie and Deborah Ann, were born at this time. The small family then moved to an apartment building where daughters Mary Jane, Cynthia Jean, and Karen Olive were born. In May of 1996, Emile and Annette bought their first and only home at 36 Water Street in Orleans, where their son William Arthur was born. For half a year before William was born, Annette worked as a cook for Rena and Gordon Marcotte, at the Maple Lane Nursing Home. In the mid 1970s, Emile became the Orleans Fire Chief, and Annette purchased a C.B. base station radio and soon began dispatching for the Orleans Fire Department, as each fire truck had a C.B. radio in it. Annette's C.B. handle was the Phantom Base. For many years, Annette had a red phone to answer fire calls. Finally, all the C.B. radios were changed to the FM system. Annette served as the Orleans Fire and Ambulance Dispatcher for more than 30 years, and also is the answering service for both the Barton and Orleans Villages to assist with power outages, etc. Annette has been extremely dedicated to the Orleans are residents and we all are very grateful to her for all these years. Annette is survived by her six children: Connie and Robert Hunt of Groveton, N.H., Debbie Ehrgood and Kim Whipple of Evansville, Mary Jane of Orleans, Cindy Pickel of Newport, Karen of Orleans, and William "Bill" of Orleans; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; her siblings: Bernard Butler of Barton, Arland Butler of Irasburg, Fay Butler of Massachusetts, Francis Butler and his wife Phyllis of Massachusetts, Pauline Fernandez and her husband Jose of West Virginia, and Florence Tillinghast and her husband George of Pennsylvania; two brothers-in-law: Donald Lapierre and his wife Jackie of Derby Line, and William "Bill" Lapierre and his wife Delores of Newport; a sister-in-law Marilyn Barry and her husband Lloyd of Newport. She was predeceased by her husband Emile Lapierre; a granddaughter Shannon Annette Pickel; a great-granddaughter Morgan Ann Lapierre-Diette; a son-in-law David Pickel; two sisters Beatrice Kittredge and Shirley Smith; a brother Stanley Butler; and by a best friend Joan Pouliot. Annette was such a remarkable women and will be sadly missed, but always remembered for so many different things. She loved putting together a Butler Huntington genealogy with the help of second cousins Herb Marsh and Mike Estabrook. She was so proud of being the Orleans Fire and Ambulance Dispatcher. She looked forward to her Monday afternoon tea with niece Dorothy Campbell, and her annual fire conventions with her husband and Marilyn and Lloyd Barry. She cherished her family, and will continue to be their matriarch as she becomes their guardian angel/mother. , 95, died Nov. 11, 2008, after a short illness at Weeks Memorial Hospital. She was born in Jersey City, N.J., Jan. 7, 1913, to John and Theresa Langdon, being one of four children born to the couple. Until her death, she was the only surviving sibling. Eleanor worked for Western Electric Company for 43 years and acted as a supervisor of a pool of secretaries. She was the first female supervisor in that company. She was very active in the Society of Telephone Pioneers during that period. Living in Jersey City, she married Fred E. Brauns in 1939. They had three children, Frederick (Rick), Robert (Bobby or Langdon) and Paul who died soon after birth. A favorite past time of the couple was ballroom dancing in New York City to the likes of Guy Lombardo and other big bands of the era. The couple retired to Twin Mountain after several years of vacationing in the area. In 1973 they began building their home on Parker Road and moved to the house in 1974. Fred passed away in 1986. Eleanor, who had never in her life driven a car, gained her drivers license at the young age of 70 and continued to drive until her 95th birthday. Eleanor served as president of the Twin Mt. Ladies Discussion Group, was assistant Twin librarian for many years, posed as the Easter Bunny for the Twin Recreation Program numerous times, was a director for the Caleb Care Givers Group, was Supervisor of the Check List for over 20 years, was a member of Fire Department Auxiliary, Catholic Woman's Group, HEESU Group and taught a 4H sewing and sand art craft program. She was the recipient of many awards over the years including the Joseph P. Vaughan Award and the Boston Post Cane Award. When she was awarded the cane for being the oldest resident of Carroll County she commented, "while I am honored, I really don't want the cane as the last recipient has died. If it comes with a multi year warranty, I will accept it." She was "grandma" or "grammy L" to most of the children in the area, having worked extensively with the children of Coos County for 30 years. She always wore a smile and was a friend to all, young or old, regardless of their race, creed or religion. Eleanor Brauns was indeed the "First Lady of Twin Mountain." Surviving immediate family are sons Rick Brauns and his wife Joanne of Milltown, N.J. and Robert Brauns of Panama City, Republic of Panama. Viewing will be at Ross Funeral Home, Whitefield Chapel, Monday, Nov. 17, from 6 to 8 p.m..
