, 84, of Derby died February 16, 2008, in Newport. Mrs. McCarthy was born June 29, 1923, in Bayonne,New Jersey, a daughter of Charles and Elizabeth (Wren) Kerman. On December 18, 1943, she married William McCarthy, who survives her. She was a secretary for St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Roselle,New Jersey, for 20 years. She was a past member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She liked to cook, read, and be with her friends. She especially loved her family and enjoyed gatherings and their visits. She enjoyed her many dogs that she and her husband, Bill, had over the years. She is survived by her husband, William "Bill" McCarthy, of Derby; by a daughter, Ellen McCarthy, of New Jersey; by a son, William McCarthy, and his wife, Robyn, of Newport; by six grandchildren: Elizabeth and Glenn Hilliard of New Jersey, Christopher Pavics of New Jersey, Margaret McCarthy of Colorado, Catherine McCarthy of Colorado, Taylor McCarthy of Newport, and Kelsey McCarthy of Newport. She was predeceased by a sister, Marie. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 20, at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Derby Line with the Reverend Yvon Royer celebrating a Mass of Christian Burial.

, 73, of Brownington died peacefully on February 14, 2008, at her home. Mrs. Libby was born April 28, 1934, in Lowell, a daughter of Leon and Sophia Shufelt. On September 1, 1951, she married David Libby, who predeceased her on July 21, 1997. She was a housekeeper for the Newport Health Care Center; she retired in 1997. She had a great love for animals and enjoyed visiting with her friends, going for walks, and picnicking with her grandchildren. She is survived by her children: Darcy Libby of Brownington and his girlfriend, Pam Viens, of Orleans, Deborah Libby and her friend, Paul, of Brownington, Darlene Donna and her husband, Brian, of Newport Center, Pamela White and her husband, Randy, of Brownington, Lesa Johnson and her husband, Richard, of Sutton, Wayne Libby and his wife, Cindy, of Brownington, Rhonda Libby and her boyfriend, Skeet, of Barton, and Monte Libby and his wife, Nicole, of Newport; and by her grandchildren: May Libby, Scott Nichols, Brandon Bennett, Jason White, Jennifer Locke, David Johnson, Nina Sicard, and Preston and Peyton Libby. She was predeceased by seven siblings: Carl, Leonard, Arnold, Irene, Dorothy, Marjorie, and Donald. Spring graveside services will be held at the Brownington Center Cemetery with the Reverend Roger Fletcher officiating. , 75, of North Wolcott, a disabled veteran of the Korean War era, died Tuesday, February 12, 2007, at Copley Hospital in Morrisville with his family and friends by his side. Mr. Lanphere was born in Belvidere on June 20, 1932, a son of the late Elvie Greene and Floyd H. Lanphere Sr. He attended Lamoille Central Academy and later served in the U.S. Army in France and Germany during the Korean War era. He made his home in North Wolcott and worked for Young's Tree Farm and at other jobs. He was a charter life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Hyde Park Post 7779 and a member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and gatherings with family and friends. He was a kind man, devoted to helping others in his life. His door was always open to anyone who needed a friend or who needed a place to stay. He was an avid storyteller, and with his many life experiences, he had much to say. He had a sensible wisdom, and he always had words of advice one could live by. To many, he was thought of as another father or grandfather. He was loved and will be missed by everyone whose lives he touched. He leaves two sons, Curtis Lanphere and his fiancée, Sonya Roberts, of North Wolcott and Harold Lanphere and his fiancée, Sherry Cote, of Hardwick; grandchildren: Logan and Hunter Lanphere of North Wolcott and Hailey and JayDenLanphere of Hardwick; four brothers: Floyd Jr. of Proctor, Roy of Florida, Dayton of North Wolcott, and Bertran of Essex; two sisters, Lorraine Morey of Florida and Lucille Towle of Waterford; and several nieces and nephews, extended family, and many friends. Friends may call at the Davis Funeral Home in Craftsbury Common on Saturday, February 23, from 1 to 3 p.m. A graveside service will be held at the Belvidere Cemetery in the spring. Cora Curtis Johnson

, 89, of Newport died February 12, 2008. Mrs. Johnson was born March 28, 1922, a daughter of George and Belle (Bangs) Curtis. She graduated from Derby Academy, and in 1945, she married Roger Johnson, who predeceased her in 1983. She worked as a bookkeeper in her husband's Western Auto business and in later years for M.H. Pickel, a local contractor. She was a longtime active member of the United Church of Newport, where she was a faithful choir member for over 30 years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Newport and Derby historical societies and a former member of the Newport Woman's Club. Upon retirement she did volunteer work at North Country Union High School and the Newport Chamber of Commerce for several years. Her hobbies were reading, antiquing, and collecting old postcards of the Newport-Derby area; she had an impressive collection. Her greatest pleasure was her family, which always came first in her life. She found a great source of pride in her children and grandchildren and their accomplishments. Her 12 great-grandchildren: Nate, Will, and Madison Hubbard, Tad, Avery, Ben, Daniel, Luke, and Allie B. Bliss, Nixon and Remy Malik, and Phineaus Johnson, who survive her, were her special joy. She is survived by her sons James Johnson and his wife, Nicole, of Newport and Thomas Johnson and his wife, Denise, of Williston; by her daughter Bonnie Mewherter and her husband, Miles, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; by her grandchildren: Lolly Bliss and her husband, Doug, of Underhill, Tiffiny Hubbard and her husband, Scott, of Williston, Dr. Naomi Malik and her husband, Dr. Michael Malik, of Barrington, Rhode Island, India Pena and her husband, Marvin, of Aliso Viejo, California, Sam Johnson and his wife, Augie, of Burlington, and Sarah Soster and her husband, Greg, of Sewickley, Pennsylvania; by her sister Phyllis Davio of Newport; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her infant son Roger Jr.; by her sisters: Edna Hardy, Beulah Storey, Una Fournier, and Evelyn Bean; and by her brother Lee Curtis. , 65, of Enfield, Connecticut, died February 4, 2008. Mrs. Fowler was born and raised in Derby Line to Paul and FrancesBedard. She met many challenges throughout her life and always seemed to overcome them. She couldn't beat her last one. She was a thoughtful and giving person. Everyone else came first. She will be sadly missed, but her family and friends take comfort knowing that she is finally at peace and with the Lord. , 80, of Walden died at home in the comfort of her family on February 8, 2008, after a long period of declining health. Virginia Mae Bolster was born March 22, 1927, in Brattleboro, the only child of Levi and Christa (McKinstry) Bolster. Her parents divorced and both remarried, and Mrs. Foster had 12 siblings. She grew up in Cabot, married in Marshfield, and lived in Walden for 55 years. She married Francis Paquin Foster on June 10, 1943. She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, gardening, knitting, reading, birdwatching, doing crossword puzzles, going for rides, picnicking on the pond, and spending time with family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Francis Foster of Hardwick; by 12 children: Archie Foster and his wife, Nina (Corrow), of Walden, Forrest Foster of Hardwick, Elick Foster and his wife, Joanne (Hatch), of Walden, Chrystal Fox and her husband, Glendon, of Danville, Melody Chase and her husband, Alton, of Hardwick, Nathan Foster and his wife, Annette (Bellavance), of Walden, Terry Foster and his wife, Patricia (Brown), of Walden, Rona Sicily and her husband, Tom, of Cabot, Justin Foster and his wife, Roberta (Hall), of Greensboro Bend, Maria Lamberton and her husband, Terry, of Walden, Ember Boyle and her husband, Stacey, of Isle LaMotte, and Nick Foster of Walden; by 28 grandchildren; by 21 great-grandchildren; by her sister Dorothy Laughton; and by brothers: Levi Jr., Ralph, Cleon, and Neal Bolster and Carlton Pelletier and their spouses. She was predeceased by her daughter Brenda; by brothers: Earl Dietz, Richard, Scott, and Steward Bolster; and by sisters Perscilla Phelps and Shirley Denyon. At her request, there will be no public service. A private family burial was held in an informal outdoor setting February 10 at the family cemetery. Charles "Chuck" R. Dudley

, 57, of Orleans died February 12, 2008, in Lebanon, New Hampshire, following a brief illness. Mr. Dudley was born August 18, 1950, a son of Richard and Libby (Pike) Dudley. On August 19, 1972, he married Terry Comstock, who survives him. He graduated from Lake Region Union High School and graduated from the University of Vermont in 1972, where he was a member of the golf team. He was a longtime employee of Ethan Allen in Orleans. He served as secretary of Lodge 55 of Free and Accepted Masons of Orleans for 23 years. For over 50 years he was a devoted member of the Orleans Country Club and served as treasurer for over 20 years. He was an avid downhill skier and especially loved Jay Peak's deep powder days. He was a longtime member of the Orleans Federated Church. He is survived by his best gift, twin daughters, Tricia Dudley Doran and her husband, Jethro, of West Haven and Wendy Dudley and her fiancé, James Leithead, of Newport; by sisters Pamela Downer and her husband, Jay, of Newport and Lynn Bernnan and her husband, Terry, of Orchard Park, New York; by his brother Brad Dudley and his friend, Cori Shimko, of Irasburg; by his parents, Richard and Libby Dudley of Orleans; by grandson Zakary Leithead; by father-in-law, Dean Comstock, and his fiancée, Sarah Ryan, of Westmore; by sister-in-law Sue Menard and her husband, Frank, of Barton; by brother-in-law Michael Comstock of Barton; and by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved friends. Mrs. Bernier was born January 21, 1945, in Canada, a daughter of Edward and Adrienne (Mercier) Bilodeau. On September 10, 1960, she married George Bernier, who predeceased her in 1982. She moved to Lisbon in 1992. She enjoyed doing craft work, drawing, and singing. She is survived by her children: Ray Bernier and his wife, Dona, of Lisbon, Theresa Bernier and her fiancé, Ronald Hoadley, of Brownington, and Helen Sylvester and her fiancé, David Bliss, of Livermore Falls, Maine; by grandchildren: Marie, Christine, Amanda, Jennifer, Paul, Jessica, Collin, Athina, Kyle, Alicia, and Kevin; and by great-grandchildren: Christopher, Kaleb, Breanna, Angela, Patricia, Shyann, and Joe Jr. She was predeceased by granddaughter Serena. , 81, of Glover died February 21, 2008, in the presence of her family at Maple Lane Nursing Home in Barton. Mrs. Perron was born at Cottage Hospital in Barton on February 6, 1927, a daughter of Walter and Doris (Witcher) King of West Glover. She married Donald Perron on January 2, 1947. He predeceased her on February 6, 1991. She was a lifelong resident of Glover, raising her family on Perron Hill. She loved her family and was always there for her grandchildren. She loved dairy farming and knew every cow by name, pedigree, and milk production. She was an active member of the dairy cooperatives. She was a lifelong member of the Glover Community Church, the Glover Historical Society, and the Glover Public Library. She was a member of the Women's Union and Home Dem. She was very proud of receiving her college degree, and she was a lifelong learner. She is survived by her daughter Ellen Dooley; by her sons Evan and Eric Perron; by her grandchildren: Jennifer Sullivan, Natalie Duval, JoAnnaPerron, Celeste Perron, Jay Evan Perron, and Katie Dooley; by a great-granddaughter, Olivia Sullivan; by her sister Sherry Muller; and by brothers Fredrick and Donald King. She was predeceased by her sisters Janice Butler and Barbara Perron. A celebration of her life was held February 25 at the Glover Community Church.

, 85, beloved wife and mother, died Monday evening, February 18, 2008, at the home of her son Lyman Locke Jr. in Albany. Mrs. Locke was born in Haverhill, New Hampshire, on January 24, 1923, a daughter of Ralph W. and Nina (Cerosby) Rogers. She was a 1940 graduate of Haverhill Academy. On September 15, 1942, she married Lyman Locke Sr. They made their home in Brandon for many years, moving to Albany in 1978. In 2005, she and her husband moved to the Craftsbury Community Care Center in East Craftsbury. She had been employed for several years as a clerk at the Aldrich General Store in Haverhill and had been a 4-H Club leader for over ten years. She enjoyed being with her family, knitting, and gardening. She earned several blue ribbons for her works at the Haverhill Fair. She leaves her husband, Lyman Locke Sr., of East Craftsbury; a son, Lyman "Bud" Locke Jr., and his wife, Deborah, of Albany; three daughters: Nina Brigham and her husband, Marshall, of Cleveland, Georgia, Judith Mello and her husband, Manning, of Dahlonega, Georgia, and Rosalie Berkey and her husband, Kenneth, of Rice, Virginia; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great- grandchild, including her granddaughter Angela McAllister and her husband, Ben, and two very special great-grandchildren, Emma and Seth, of Albany. She was predeceased by her brothers Vance and Ralph Rogers; and by sisters: Eunice Demers and infant twin sisters. A memorial service will be held at a later date, and spring interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Haverhill.

On December 3, 1955, she married William Leroy, who predeceased her on November 29, 2006. She was a supporter of the March of Dimes and St. Jude's Hospital. She is survived by her children: Donna Marie Leroy, Michael Leroy and his wife, Angela, James Leroy and his wife, Ethel, and Dianne Cassidy and her husband, Wayde, all of Waterbury, Connecticut, and Kathleen Balcom and her husband, Joseph, and Anne Marie Leroy, all of Newport; by 16 grandchildren; by five great-grandchildren; by several nieces and nephews; by two sisters, Rita and Vickie; and by a brother. , 80, of Holland died February 20, 2008, at his home. Mr. Estabrook was born August 9, 1927, in Newburyport, Massachusetts, a son of Robert and Mary (Woods). On August 31, 1952, he married Jane Louise Ryan, who predeceased him on July 17, 2002. He was a graduate of the Massachusetts Trade School in Boston. He entered the United States Marines and served his country during World War II. He owned and operated Estabrook Engineering for 35 years. He held membership with Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 798 of Newport and the Marines Knox Detachment in Essex Junction. He is survived by his children: Mindy Lefebvre and her husband, Robert, of Hartland, Diane Rowell and her husband, Dale, of St. Johnsbury, and WorthernEstabrook of Burlington; and by five grandchildren: Haley, Calsey, Colby, Courtney, and Brittney. He was predeceased by his brother Robert Estabrook. A private family service will be held in the spring at Veterans Cemetery in Randolph.
