She loved plants, and her annual invitation to watch her Night-Blooming Cereus open was a treasured event to many friends. Despite poor eyesight, she loved to quilt, and also enjoyed her meals, her word search puzzles, and taking long rides on back roads.

After graduation he was looking forward to joining his father in the family business, Picard Excavation, and marrying the love of his life Kira Hopkins. J.D. inherited his fathers strong work ethic and never stopped before a job was finished. He learned to operate an excavator long before learning to drive a truck and loved snow plowing. An avid outdoorsman, J.D. enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping and also enjoyed four wheeling, dirt biking and snowmobiling. If there was a skill JD wanted to learn he found a way to learn it. After suffering a back injury his sophomore year, J.D. choose to stop playing in order to stay healthy to keep working with his father. A champion for the underdog, J.D. had a genuine and sincere interest in people, always willing to be everyones friend. J.D. had a knack for getting himself in to trouble but then he would use his charm and devilish smile to get himself out. He was the King of U-32 and enjoyed being the class clown. Ula I. Pommer
....show died Friday, 23 May 2008, in the comfort of her Montpelier home at Heaton Woods. Ula is pictured above in Israel in 1951. Ula I. Pommer was born 19 May 1919 in Krakow, Poland. She was the daughter of Caecilie and Erwin Pommer. With her older brother Alfred, Ula was raised in Vienna, Austria. Their father was an inventor and manufacturer.
Due to the political climate of 1939 Austria, Ula was forced to flee her home country. She found refuge in British occupied Palestine. Her brother Alfred had managed in 1938 to emigrate to the United States after a difficult year in Portugal. Their parents and several relatives died in the Holocaust.
Ula married while living in the new country of Israel. She later divorced. She lived under a curfew and returned home one day to find that her apartment had been bombed. Ula made friends easily. They faced their daily hardships with good cheer, telling jokes, and having a decent meal when they could afford one. In 1953 Ula was sponsored by her brother Alfred to join him in the United States. She literally sold everything she owned to afford the fare.
Ula settled in New York City. She eventually worked for Plansee USA. Paul Schwarzkopf, the founder of the company in Ruette, Austria, had been a friend of her father. Ula Pommer became a citizen of the United States in 1958. She took full advantage of New York City's cultural life. Ula also had the good fortune of living near the future Lincoln Center. She loved the opera and enjoyed her reserved seat for decades. She reveled in the friendship of many artists here and abroad. Ula retired in 1988. She was a major supporter of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the New York Public Library, and the United Jewish Appeal.
Ula moved to Heaton Woods, a Montpelier assisted living facility, in 2006. Her brother, Dr. Alfred M. Pommer, had married Agnes Lawson, the younger sister of former Montpelier Fire Chief Sidney Lawson in 1949. Dr. Pommer died 14 December 1977. In her later years, Ula was spending several weeks every summer in Vermont. Although she missed her life in New York City, she acknowledged she needed more care. Ula grew to love the mountains of Vermont. Her Vermont family and friends considered it an honor to have her living in Vermont. Just two months prior to her death Ula was asked to visit the Crosset Brook Middle School in Duxbury to speak about the Holocaust. Ula was very touched by the letters sent by the young students thanking her.
Ula I. Pommer is survived by her nephew Donald, his wife Lois of Baltimore, Maryland, and their children Christina and David. Ula considered Sidney Lawson, Jr., her brother's nephew, also her nephew. Ula leaves many devoted friends. They were her family. Ula died knowing she was loved. She was proud to be considered a survivor.

Ivers Milon Wilder, Jr.
....show , 81, passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at Central Vermont Medical Center.
Ivers was born on August 1, 1926 in Northfield, Vermont, the son of Ivers Milon Wilder Sr. and Emma Fogg Wilder. He attended schools in Northfield. He began logging to help support his family and joined his faithful uncles for work in the woods of Orange, Vermont. Ivers joined the United States Army, 5th Calvary, on September 13, 1944. He completed his basic training with the 4th Platoon, Troop K, 1st Training Regiment at Fort Riley, Kansas. He departed for his overseas duty in March of 1945. He served as a rifleman in the Southern Philippines during the campaigns of Luzon and Leyte and was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge and two battle stars. His regiment left the Philippines on three transport ships to await the occupation of Japan. Ivers felt privileged to have been present in Tokyo Harbor on September 2, 1945 during the signing of the Joint Declaration of the United States, Great Britain, China, and the Soviet Union with Japan. He received his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army on November 26, 1946. Ivers received the following decorations: the Army of Occupation Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Philippines Liberation Ribbon, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal. Ivers had been a life member of the Brown-Johnson Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 792, in Montpelier.
Upon his discharge, Ivers returned to Vermont and began his long employment as a polisher in the Barre and Montpelier granite industry. He remained in the industry for 42 years and retired in 1989. Not one to sit around, even in retirement, Ivers worked for many summers as a groundskeeper for the Vermont Parks and Forests and the Pleasant View Cemetery in Morrisville, Vt. His greatest enjoyments in life, other than times with his family, were mowing and plowing his home property, traveling the back roads of Vermont, discovering new places in the United States, and watching the games of the New York Yankees and Giants with his son and grandsons.
Family life began on July 5, 1952 when Ivers married Lorraine Jean Pillsbury at the home of Reverend Arthur Hewitt in Berlin. They resided in Montpelier for their first twenty-four years of marriage. In 1976, the family moved to Worcester, where Ivers and Lorraine continued to reside. Ivers is survived by his loving wife Lorraine; his daughter Denise Wilder and husband, Michael Fullerton of North Calais; his daughter Jean Wilder and husband, William DeVaughn of Middlesex; his son Les Wilder and wife, Angie Wilder of Worcester; and his daughter Ruth Wilder and partner, Peter Mayhew of Marshfield. Ivers is also survived by four grandchildren: Jennifer Wilder Perry and husband Christopher Perry of Montpelier; Thurman Wilder and partner, Harmony Cook of Williamstown; Amber Wilder Larrabee and husband, Jake Larrabee of Barre; and Michael Springer and partner, Emily Smith of East Montpelier. Ivers was a proud great grandfather of Christopher Perry, Jade Perry, Landon Ivers Larrabee and Olivia Amber Wilder. Ivers also has left his beloved sister Evelyn Grandy of Montpelier; his best friends and cousin Beverly and Fred Fisher of Montpelier; his loving Aunt Lila Wilder of Worcester; one niece Diane Naumec, four nephews Steve Barabash, Chris, Kevin and Michael Butler, and too numerous cousins and friends to mention, but they were never forgotten. Ivers has been predeceased by his son Milon Ivers Wilder; his father, his mother and his stepmother Elsie Wilder; his brother Donald Butler; all of his uncles and aunts; and his best friend George Richardson.
Ivers wished to have no calling hours or funeral. Instead, family and friends are invited to celebrate his life at a ceremony which will be hosted at the Brown-Johnson Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Post 792 on Tuesday, March 25 at 11 A.M. A meal will follow the ceremony. The VFW is located at 1 Pioneer Street in Montpelier.

Montpelier, VT -
Valerie "Dianne" Wilson
....show , age 55, of Montpelier died suddenly after a short-term illness on August 25, 2008 at Central Vermont Medical Center.
She was born on February 14, 1953 in Charleston, SC, the daughter of Ida Juanita (Earley) and Chauncey Wilson. She graduated from high school in Anderson, SC, where she grew up. She later earned her Associate degree at Community College of Vermont in 2001.
Dianne married Richard Harvie, a student at Clemson, in 1971. Shortly thereafter, Richs pursuit of a pharmacy degree took the young couple to Framingham, MA. In 1981 Dianne and Rich had the first of two wonderful daughters, Sarah; Kaitlin followed in 1983. In the same year, Dianne and Rich settled in East Montpelier, VT. Dianne began working at International Coins and Currency in 1987, where she continued to work until her passing, some 20+ years later. Dianne and Rich divorced in 1990.
Dianne met Barry Rufenacht in 1991 and they began a domestic partnership in 1992. With Barry having two sons of his own, Graham and Jesse Rufenacht (born in 1982 and 1984, respectively), Dianne and Barry ended up with a full and ever-lively household. The family grew further in 2006 when Sarah gave birth to Diannes grandson, Mason Harvie. Dianne and Barry remained partners for more than 16 years. At a gathering of friends and family last summer they commemorated their relationship when Barry surprised Dianne with rings to exchange.
Dianne enjoyed spending time gardening both flowers and vegetables. She also cared deeply and conscientiously for the number of pets her family had throughout the years. Dianne always eagerly awaited her (at least) annual trips to Florida with Barry, where they visited friends and family, and also enjoyed the often hard to come-by private moments together. Though Dianne and Barry lived in Naples, FL for two years, their favorite places were the Sanibel and Captiva Islands and Barefoot Beach.
Dianne will be remembered for her unconditional and infinite supply of love and generosity. There were no bounds to Diannes devotion to her family: she maintained exceptionally close relationships with her daughters, talking to both multiple times a day; she loved and cared for her step-sons as her own; she felt privileged and awed to be part of the deep love and commitment between herself and Barry; and she was a calming figure of strength and sensitivity not only to her immediate family, but also to an extensive network of nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends. With the arrival of Mason, Diannes dedication amplified, as even before his birth, he became the greatest joy in her life. As anyone who saw her with or spoke to her about Mason can attest, she was an incredibly joyful and grateful grandparent.
Dianne always thoughtfully extended her compassion to neighbors and friends. Particularly, Dianne and Barry made it a priority to create a space for their kids and their kids friends to enjoy and be safe. Dianne welcomed the constant flow of friends with a sense of humor, sincerity, and good food. Her Sheppards Pie, pasta sauce, and meatballs were particularly popular with the many U-32 sports teams she followed faithfully and enthusiastically.
Dianne also offered her care to the greater community around her. She volunteered at East Montpelier Elementary School in various roles, including room mother and leader of Sarahs Brownie troop. Later she became a volunteer for the Battered Womens Services and Shelter.
Dianne is survived by her domestic partner of 16 years, Barry Rufenacht, his two biological sons, Graham and Jesse, her two biological daughters, Kaitlin and Sarah, her beloved grandchild Mason, her mother Ida Juanita, her sisters Patsy McBride and Shirley Carter, Shirleys husband Mike Carter, Barrys sisters Andrea Lissette and Sharon Henry, his mother Mary Rufenacht, as well as her numerous significant nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dianne Wilson may be contributed to Battered Women's Services and Shelter of Washington County (P.O. Box 652, Barre, VT 05641). A memorial service will be held at the Old Meeting House in East Montpelier Center on Saturday, August 30 at 2 p.m. Following the ceremony, please join us at Dianne and Barrys home at 231 Bliss Road, Montpelier for a casual potluck gathering to share your memories, love, stories, pictures and support. In addition, the family would like to begin a collection of letters addressed to Mason, Diannes grandson, to create a collage of memories and perspectives of Dianne through which he, and future grandchildren, can come to know their Yami. If there is anything you would like to contribute to this collection, stationary will be available at the service and reception. The family invites attendees wear casual and comfortable attire.
