, 88, of Dalton, N.H., died Saturday afternoon, Sept. 20, 2008, at his home on Faraway Road. Mr. Packard was born in Marlborough, N.H., on Jan. 2, 1920, the son of Eleazer and Dora (Derby) Packard. He was raised in Marlborough and worked there at a chair factory until he served with the U.S. Air Force during WWII. Clare served from 1942 to 1946 in China, Burma and India. After his honorary discharge from the military he came to the North Country to work for a building contractor and eventually started his own business known as Clare Packard General Contractor. He was a 65-year lifetime member of the Whitefield American Legion Post 41 and he served 15 years with the Whitefield Volunteer Fire Department. Family members include his wife Marion (Provencher) Packard of Dalton; two sons, Charles J. Packard of Dalton, Peter G. Packard of Whitefield; two daughters, Loretta Grace of Concord, N.H., Katharine Blodgett of Worchester, Mass.; a brother Merwyn Packard of Marlborough, N.H.; a sister Barbara Phillips of Mendon, Mass.; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held Thursday evening Sept. 25, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday morning at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew's Church in Whitefield. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Matthew's Cemetery, Whitefield. , 84, of Elm Street, Lancaster, N.H., died Saturday afternoon, Sept. 20, 2008, at her home on Elm Street. Mrs. Whipple was born in St. Johnsbury, Vt., on July 2, 1924, the daughter of Joseph A. and Marieann (Roy) Cyr. Rita was raised in St. Johnsbury, attending schools there and was a graduate of St. Johnsbury Academy. For a time she worked in the Gilman Paper Mill where she met her late husband Perley A. Whipple Jr. After their marriage she moved to Lancaster where she resided for the rest of her lifetime. She was an outdoor person and enjoyed their camp in Maidstone. She was also an avid doll collector. Memberships include the VFW Auxiliary and the Colonel Town Senior Citizens. Family members include two sons, Perley A. Whipple III and his wife Tina of Bethlehem, Lance C. Whipple and wife Carolyn of Lancaster; three daughters, Judith A. Whipple Brown and husband Ed of Dover, Brenda L. Whipple of Lancaster, Sandra M. Willey and husband Dennis of Dalton; a brother Roland Cyr of Connecticut; a sister Florence Vigeant of Passumpsic; 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Her husband predeceased her in 1988. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday evening Sept. 23, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A funeral service will be held Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. at the Lancaster Congregation United Church of Christ. Rev. Virginia Alvarez, pastor, will officiate. , 62, died on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008, at his home, with his family by his side. He was born in Glendale, Ohio, on July 10, 1946, the son of LaVerne and Golda (Cranfill) Crum. After graduation from high school, Don served in the United States Army from 1966 until 1982 when they moved to Groton. He has been the Director of Food Services at Blue Mountain Union School for the past 20 years. Don married Kathleen Acri on July 17, 1976. Don was a member of the Groton United Methodist Church, was a former member of the Groton Fire Department, served as a Lister for the Town of Groton, and was a Justice of the Peace. A passionate outdoorsman, he loved hunting and fishing. Don is survived by his wife Kathy of Groton; his father LaVerne Crum of Cincinnati, Ohio; his daughters Andrea Tomko and husband Michael of Cincinnati, Nicole Crum of Groton; his sons Don Crum, Jr., and wife Lori of Florence, Ky., Erich Crum and fiance' Kathleen of Groton, and Greg Crum of Groton; six grandchildren; a sister Rebecca Wellbrock of Cincinnati; one nephew and several cousins. There will be no calling hours. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, at 11 a.m., at the Groton United Methodist Church with Pastor Candace Ricker, officiating. , 84, of 208 Marshall St., Athol, Mass., died Friday, Sept. 05, 2008, in Quabbin Valley Healthcare in Athol after a lengthy illness. Roger, son of the late Richard H. and Annie (Newman) Olds Sr., was born in Gardner, Mass., April 23, 1924, and lived in the local area most of his life. Roger graduated from Gardner High School, class of 1942. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving our country during World War II. He worked for the former S. Bent Bros in both Gardner and St. Johnsbury, for 45 years before retiring in 1987. Most of all, Roger will be remembered for the unconditional love that he showed to his children and grandchildren. He will be sadly missed. Roger is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 61 years, Frances R. (Shevis) Olds; three sons Thomas R. Olds of Rutland, Mass., Robert J. Olds of Portland, Maine, and David R. Olds of Merrimac, Mass.; one daughter, Carol A. Sherman of West Springfield, Mass.; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers Richard H. Olds Jr. and Thomas George Olds. His funeral service and burial took place in Gardner, Mass.

, 69, of Lyle Young Road, died Friday evening, Sept. 19, 2008, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and Brian Phillips in East Montpelier. Born June 9, 1939, in Kingscroft, PQ, Canada, he was the son of Aldei and Florence (Charron) Ouimet. He grew up in Canada and attended schools there, graduating from Sallaisen College (Noe' Ponton) in Sherbrooke. He moved to the U.S. in the late 1950s. On June 2, 1962, he married Angele Lussier, making their home in Randolph, they later divorced. In his early years he was employed by Asplundh Tree Service prior to becoming a farmer and later a self employed carpenter. For many years he has been an active member of the Canadian Club in Barre, the Knights of Columbus, and the Montpelier Elks Club. Real had a flare for life. Fishing, hunting, playing cards, golfing and socializing were some of his favorite past times, but he will also be remembered for the roses he grew and gave away to friends and relatives. Survivors include his mother Florence (Charron) Ouimet of Coaticook, PQ, Canada; three daughters Lucy Ouimet-Sayers and her husband, Willie of East Calais, Joanne Ducas and her husband, Marcel of Berlin and Tracy Phillips and her husband, Brian of East Montpelier; a brother Roger Ouimet of Barnston, PQ, Canada; and sister Aldea Vaillancourt of Coaticook, PQ, Canada. Grandchildren include his special granddaughter Nicole Ouimet, Joshua Sayers, Stephanie Sayers, Chad Ducas and Claire Phillips. Also surviving are his close friends Doris Phillips and Laurie and Mike Stone. His father predeceased him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, at 11 a.m., in the St. Monica Catholic Church in Barre. A private interment in the Plainmont Cemetery will take place at a later date. The family will host a reception to honor and celebrate the life of Real at the Barre Canadian Club on Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, it will begin at 3 p.m. and be followed by a buffet dinner at 6:30 p.m., and music into the evening, bring your dancing shoes in his honor. , 37, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, peacefully at her home with her family by her side after a long illness. She was born in Freeport, N.Y. She graduated from Moultonboro Academy in 1988 and the University of New England class of 1994 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy. Jackalyn was employed by Littleton Regional Hospital for 10 years as an Occupational Therapist. She is survived by her loving husband, Richard, two daughters Julia and Mary Frances, her mother Elizabeth Miller, a brother Paul Sherman, her grandmother Elizabeth Schaefer, an Uncle George Miller, an Aunt Jane Huscher, cousins, mother in-law Rose Isarel, father in-law Robert Ubaldo, brother in-laws Robert and John Ubaldo. , 71, of Little Italy Road, died, Sept. 23, 2008, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, N.H. He was born in Woodsville, N.H., on July 7, 1937, a son of Lorimer and Alice (Welch) Puffer. Harold graduated from Groton High School, Class of 1955. He married Janet Helen Benzie on June 13, 1959. He served with the Vermont National guard for several years and graduated from the Vermont Military Academy in 1970. He started with the Modern Woodmen Agency in 1969 as a sales representative. In 1976 with his two brothers Gordon and Gene they established Puffer Brother's Broadcasting and WYKR Radio in Wells River. He returned to Modern Woodmen in 1979 and became Agency Manager for Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont Modern Woodmen of America from 1981 to 2001. Harold was the former Fire Chief of Groton, Groton Civil Defense Coordinator and recently served on the Planning Commission. He was also a former Trustee of Cottage Hospital and Director of Caledonia Home Health. He enjoyed carving, building ponds, and Sunday dinner with the family. His love for the Lord made him the encourager he was. Harold was proud of his Groton roots, Where a small town is like a large family. In the passing of Harold, Groton feels the loss of one more respected and helpful citizen. Harold was predeceased by a son Mark Stevenson Puffer on Oct. 9, 1965. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Janet Helen (Benzie) Puffer of Groton; three sons Nathan Puffer and wife Merry (Kinder) of Groton, David Puffer and wife Maria (Trombley) of Mount Pleasant, S.C., and Matthew Puffer and wife Tracy (Emerson) of Groton; six granddaughters; two grandsons; two brothers, Gordon Puffer and wife Maureen of Mildenhall, England, and Eugene Puffer and wife Clara of Monroe, N.H.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Ingeborg M. Bowman

, 76, of South Bend, Ind., passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend, after a courageous battle with cancer and emphysema. She was born on Feb. 20, 1932, in Dresden, Germany, to the late Georg and Mathilde (Fehr) Hohn. On Sept. 3, 1955, she married Walter E. Bowman, who preceded her in death on Sept. 27, 1971. Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Klaus. Ingeborg is survived by her daughter, Elena Bowman of South Bend; her son, Bruce (Leslie) Bowman of Vermont; a stepson, Tony Bowman of Germany; and by two grandsons, Gregory Bowman of California and Douglas Bowman of Vermont. She moved to South Bend in 2001 to live with her daughter, who cared for her throughout her illness. She was a parishioner of St. Matthew Cathedral, South Bend. Ingeborg was a wonderful cook and loved to nurture her family. She lived a blessed life, loved raising her family and making sure they had everything they needed. She always tried to anticipate the needs of others to help them. She was very proud of her work as a home health aide in Vermont. She also leaves behind many dear friends all over the world whom she loved keeping in touch with, and especially her dear friend, Carolyn Robinson, a devoted and loving caregiver. She also leaves behind her cat, Coco who she loved to spoil with treats. Memorial services will be held in South Bend, Ind.

, 68, of Newport passed away in Newport on Sept. 26, 2008. He was born on March 28, 1940 in Newport a son of Lawrence and Evelyn (Coe) Kilpatrick. On July 23, 1962, he married Patricia Haney who survives him. He graduated from Brighton High School in Island Pond. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1958 to 1962. Miles was employed at Tivoly for 45 years as their customer service manager where he retired in 2004. He continued working part-time at Tivoly after his retirement. Among his hobbies he was an avid reader and had a profound love for all cars. He is survived by wife Patricia Kilpatrick of Newport; two children Kimberly Dionne and her husband Jim of Bucksport, Maine, and Graydon Kilpatrick and his wife Jessica of Milton; his two brothers Alan Bishop and his wife Janet of Newport, and Timothy Bishop and his wife Marilyn of Lyndonville; a sister Gloria Hancock and her husband Rodney of Coventry; and by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Lawrence and Evelyn Kilpatrick. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008, at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home 4670 Darling Hill Road, Newport, with the Rev. Roger Fletcher officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 12:30 p.m. until the hour of the service on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008. Interment will follow with full military honors in Pine Grove Cemetery. , 66, of High Street, died of pancreatic cancer Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, in the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. Adopted shortly after her birth in Miami, Fla., in 1942, she was raised by an aunt and uncle, the Late Roscoe and Frances (Pierce) Oakes, in Landaff, Lisbon and Franconia, N.H. She attended local schools, including Landaff's one-room Blue School, and graduated from the Littleton High School Class of 1960 and from Simmons College in 1964. Following a two year stint with a small publisher in Westchester County, N.Y., she spent her entire book publishing career in various marketing positions at Boston's Houghton Mifflin Company, retiring from the company's Trade Division in 2004 after 35 years of employment. A fan of the Red Sox and the Patiots, she enjoyed boating, skiing, gardening, reading and the company of friends, family and her dog Herbie. She was an active member of the the Gloucester Power Squadron, serving on various offices and taking many courses, from basic boating to celestial navigation, attaining a grade level of Navigator. In her later years she traveled as much as possible, touring areas including China, Greece, Costa Rica, Mexico, Machu Picchu, Peru and Ecuador's Galapagos Islands, and the National Parks of the US. She is survived by a brother, Ford Hubbard and his wife Nancy of East Burke, Vt.; three nieces, Elizabeth Hubbard and Michelle Barton of Sutton, Vt., and Patricia Hubbard of Linthicum, Md., and their families; a cousin, Nancy Heinemann and her husband Michael of St. Johnsbury, Vt.; in-laws Dale and Bonnie Maguire of Ipswich, her very good friend Jane Beaupre of Rowley, and other nieces, nephews and cousins.
