, Jr., 96, of Haverhill, N.H., died at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, N.H., on Sept. 10. Bill was born in Little Falls, N.Y., on Jan. 22, 1912, to William Frank and Anna (Cotton) Keyes, Sr. He was a graduate of the Haverhill Academy Class of 1929. He owned and operated the Ideal Welding Shop of Forest Street in Woodsville from 1946-1986, when he retired. Bill was a member of the First Congregational Church of Haverhill UCC for over 80 years and served as a deacon, trustee, and moderator for the church. He was a former precinct commissioner and fire chief for Haverhill Corner and served on the Haverhill budget committee. He was a special deputy fire warden for 30 years. Bill was an original organizer of Twin State Fire Mutual Aid Association and an original organizer and member of the Connecticut Valley Snowmobile Club. He was married to Ione Beulah (Keith) who died on May 16, 1956; to Barbara (Quimby) Moody who died on June 1, 1980; and to Madeline (Millette) Bixby who died on April 24, 1989. He was also predeceased by a son Robert Keith Keyes on May 11, 1963; by his sisters Dorothy (Keyes) Blaisdell and Katherine (Keyes) Wills; and by his brother Luther C. Keyes. He is survived by his son Harvey W. Keyes of Haverhill; three grandchildren Deborah Keyes McKenzie of Amherst, N.H., Charise Keyes Goodnight of Kokomo, Ind., and Michaelle Keyes of Florence, Ky.; six great-grandchildren; and a sister Polly K. Pelton of Marietta, Ga. Calling hours will be Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH. The funeral service will be on Thursday, Sept. 18, at 1 p.m., at the First Congregational Church of Haverhill UCC, On the Common, Haverhill, N.H., with Rev. David Pendleton officiating. Burial will follow in Ladd Street Cemetery. , 76, passed away peacefully at her residence at Equinox Terrace in Manchester on Sept. 4, 2008. She was born Feb. 18, 1932, in Burlington, the daughter of Cornelius and Hildred (Benedict) Whalen of East Dorset. She attended Burr & Burton Academy, secretarial school, and University of Vermont. She married Dr. Regis P. Nolin on April 28, 1956, in Manchester. They resided in Burlington where she was employed by Howard Bank, and immensely enjoyed her work. They moved to St. Johnsbury where she was again employed by Howard Bank. Her last move was back to her family home in East Dorset and she ultimately gained employment at Factory Point National Bank in Manchester as a Trust Department Administrator. This made her very happy to be back in the bank where her father had been vice-president many years ago. She was very fond of her dogs and kitties that she had over the years. Her Siamese cat, Simon, was her special companion for many of her last years. She always looked forward with much anticipation to her annual Labor Day week trip to Old Orchard Beach, Maine where she spent at least a week in the company of her beloved sister- and brother-in-law, Sue and Charles Nolin and other relatives and friends. Survivors include her daughter, Karen Nolin Govett and her husband Ian of Charlotte; her two grandsons, Devon and Dana Govett; her brother-in-law, Charles Nolin of St. Johnsbury; and her nieces Kelly Nolin of Northfield, and Kathy Diego and family of Essex. She was predeceased by her parents, and her husband, Regis in 2006. A funeral service was held Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, at 10 a.m., at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Manchester. , age 83, of Athens, Ga., died Sept. 12, 2008. He is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Patricia Mae Coffield. Born in South Portland, Maine, he was the son of William T. & Sadie Coffield and during his life lived in South Portland, Chambersburg, Pa., Littleton, N.H., and Athens, Ga. He served his country in the Navy during WWII and was proud of his participation in D-Day and Guadalcanal aboard the U.S.S. Arkansas. He was a Chamber of Commerce Executive with the Portland, Maine, and Chambersburg, Pa., Chambers. He and his wife owned the Continental 93 Motor Inn in Littleton, N.H., and retired to Georgia to live with their daughter, Julie. Survivors include sister Bette and John King; children John and Hettie Coffield, Rick Coffield, Julie and Bill Jones, and Tim and Karen Coffield; grandchildren Josh and Jennifer Coffield, Amanda and Nick Stavropoulos, Patrick Coffield, John Williams, Shawn Coffield, and Michael Coffield; great-grandchildren Jackson Coffield, Emily Coffield and Brant Williams and numerous nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 15, at the Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited at 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 16, at the Chapel, followed by an 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Cross Church, corner of Broadway and Cottage Road, South Portland. , 63, of Irasburg, well-known businessman died Sept. 12, 2008, in Newport surrounded by his loving family. He was born Dec. 12, 1944, in Newport a son of Clesson and Hazel (Desjardins) Turner. David entered the U.S. Army and served his country from 1962-1965. On Feb. 10, 1968, he married Mary Jane Burkewitz who survives him. During his lifetime he was manager and vice president of both Chittenden Trust Company and Lyndonville Savings Bank. More recently he was bookkeeper for Wright's Enterprises and currently he was working for Roger and Evelyn Lussier as their bookkeeper. He was Chief of Police for the Orleans Police Dept from 1968-mid '70s. David was very active with the Jay Peak Ski Patrol in the late '60s and served as selectman, school board member and chair for many years. He was town moderator for 31 years for the Town of Irasburg. He held memberships with the American Legion Post 21 of Newport, Order of the Elks #2155 of Newport, and he was a volunteer for the American Red Cross. He was active in the local Diversion Program, and he was on the Board of Northeast Kingdom Human Services and he was treasurer for the Salvation Army. David also served as chair and board member of the Orleans Central Supervisory Union and auditor for Lake Region Union High School. David was actively involved for the last 40 years with the Irasburg United Church fair and the Easter sunrise breakfast. He is survived by his wife Mary Jane Turner of Irasburg; two children: Amy Leroux and husband Dale of Irasburg, and their three sons, Elijah, Gardner and Simon; and Michael Turner of Irasburg and friend Kate Petterson and her children Jarrett and Raegan of Orleans. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Paul Turner and wife Cindy of Irasburg, James Turner and wife Connie of Newport, Clair Guiranna and husband Carl of Penn, Lois Jenks and husband Douglas (Peter) of Newport, Ann "Pee Wee" Cote and husband Laurent "Sonny" of Westfield, and Linda Lawson of Westfield; by his brother-in-law James Burkewitz and wife Cindi of Arizona, and by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Clesson and Hazel Turner, a brother Earl Turner and wife Mary, his mother- and father-in-law Hilda and Paul Burkewitz and brother-in-law Rodney Burkewitz and wife Wanita. , age 94, passed away peacefully at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury, on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008. Born Savina Marlena Loparco on Nov. 11, 1913, in Lavello, Italy, Sadie came to the United States with her parents Guiseppe and Michelina (Salvatore) Loparco in 1916. She spent her early years in Brooklyn N.Y., Danbury, Conn. and Greenwich, Conn. She married Leonard Gerardi in 1930. Together they raised three sons and two daughters. Sadie lived her adult life in Stamford, Conn., and the Chickahominy section of Greenwich Conn. Sadie was a life-long member of St. Roch Catholic Church in Greenwich, where she was very active in the Saint Ann Society, as an officer and chair of social functions. She was a regular worker at the polls for the Town of Greenwich, and volunteered as a classroom aide at the Cos Cob School. Sadie has lived in St. Johnsbury, near her son, Lenny, and his family, since 1998. She has been a resident at The Pines in Lyndon since April 2004, where she entertained the staff who affectionately called her "Mama." She is survived by a sister Phyllis Loparco of Greenwich, Conn., by her children Micki Wilson of Ajijic, Mexico, Mel Dalesio of Fort Lauderdale Fla., Jerry Gerardi of Greenwich, Joseph Gerardi and his wife, Marjorie, of Bridgeport, Conn., Lenny Gerardi and his wife, Lauren Jarvi, of St. Johnsbury, by 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Sadie is predeceased by her husband, Leonard, of 54 years, brothers Horace, Sam and Dominic Loparco, sister Prin Conti and granddaughter Rose Ann Gerardi. Sadie will be remembered for her effervescent personality, humor, directness and passion to cook for and feed her family. No one ever left Sadie's table hungry. One nephew loved to refer to her as "a live wire." Sadie had a remarkable memory and was a wonderful source of information about her extended family, old friends and past events. A funeral Mass and burial will take place in Greenwich, Conn.

, age 97, passed away at his home at River Glen Senior Living facility in Littleton, N. H. on Sept. 5, 2008. He was born on July 16, 1911, a son to James and Miranda (Heister) Graeff, and grew up on a dairy farm outside of Strausstown, Pa. After graduating from Sinking Springs High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corp, serving his country for 11 years while simultaneously earning a B.S. degree in petroleum engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. Following WW II, Mr. Graeff established and managed his own wholesale farm equipment business, Capital Equipment Company located in Lansing, Mich., until his retirement in 1971. During his business years, he enjoyed earning his private pilot's license and flew single engine Beech Bonanza aircraft between business sites in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio. Mr. Graeff's professional memberships included Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, Masonic Grand Lodge of Kentucky, and he was a Shriner affiliated with Knights Templar in Saginaw, Mich. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Holbrook Graeff; two daughters, Marjorie Swenson of Peacham, and Judith Graeff of New York; one son, Thomas Graeff of Minneapolis, Minn. and four grandchildren. A private service will be held on Sept. 29. Burial will be in Peacham. , 92, of East Rose Avenue in Orange City, Fla., who passed away on Sept. 8, 2008, at Florida Hospital DeLand, will be Friday, Sept. 26, at 11 a.m., at the Island Pound Congregationalist Church with Rev. Allen Magoon officiating. Mr. Barnes was born in Brighton on July 11, 1916. He served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII. He retired in 1979 as an electrician for Pratt Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford, Conn. He was a "snowbird" for 18 years before moving permanently to the area in 2005 from Brighton. Mr. Barnes attended the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Orange City, Fla., and was a member of the Congregational Church of Brighton and a 60 year member of the Island Pond Masonic Lodge # 44 F&AM in Island Pond. He was also a member of AARP. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Virginia Barnes of Orange City; son Thomas E. Barnes of Swanton; daughters Carol J. Carlisle of Stoddard, N.H., and Virginia J. Henriksen of Council Bluffs, Iowa; brother Belvind R. Barnes of Bartlett, N.H.; sisters Avia Marshall of Groveton, N.H., Jean of Lancaster, N.H., and Joyce Caouette of Berlin, N.H.; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. of Wheelock died as the result of an automobile accident in Lyndon Monday, Sept. 15, 2008, at the age of 22. He was born in St. Johnsbury on Aug. 26, 1986, the son of Brian and Lucy (Mathewson) Greenwood. He graduated from Lyndon Institute with the class of 2004. For the past three years he worked with his father and uncle Tony at Greenwood's Plumbing and Heating in St. Johnsbury. Within a year he would have received his journeyman plumber's license. Matt loved life and he lived everyday. He is survived by his father and mother Brian and Lucy Greenwood of Wheelock; his older sister Krystyna Ruland and husband Ryan of Hooksett, N.H.; paternal grandfather Leo Greenwood of St. Johnsbury, maternal grandparents Hugh and Sandra Mathewson of Wheelock; paternal great-grandmother Elizabeth Greenwood of St. Johnsbury; foster grandparents with whom he lived, Robert and Charlotte Middleton of Lyndonville; several cousins, aunts and uncles and their families. His protective grandmother Dale Greenwood predeceased him in 1996; she will care for him now. Recently Derek had been working with his mother in the operation of B&B Septic Service. He loved four wheeling, hunting and fishing, and spending time with family and friends. passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital at the age of 82 years old. She was born in Bridgeport, Conn., on Sept. 1, 1926, the oldest daughter of James Edward Bulkeley and Dorothy Peck Bulkeley. She graduated from Bassick High School in Bridgeport in 1944. She then entered the United States Cadet Nurse Corp, receiving her training at Easter Maine General Hospital in Bangor, Maine, in conjunction with the University of Maine Orono campus. She graduated in 1947, earing her Registered Nursing degree. She met, and later married, the late David T. Clark on Aug. 9, 1947. Together they had five children. She worked at both Mary Fletcher and Fletcher Allen Health Care as well as Bishop Des Goesbriand Hospital in Burlington, Vt., and, after moving to St. Johnsbury with her husband and family in 1961, she was employed at Brightlook Hospital and Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital. She is survived by her five children; two daughters, Barbara Bosley and family of East Burke, and Nancy Chasse and family of Lyndonville, as well as three sons, Richard Clark and family of Raymond, N.H., Edward Clark and family of Danville, and James Clark of Chester. Survivors also include a brother, Keith Bulkeley of Desert Hot Springs, Calif.; and two sisters, Phyllis Clairmont of Fort Meyers, Fla., and Diane Rock of Cape Cod, Mass. She also leaves 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband of 60 years, the late David T. Clark. In keeping with her wishes there will be no calling hours or service. , "Ram", 65, formerly of Marlborough, Mass., and Glover, Vt., died Sept. 12, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born and raised in Marlborough, he was the son of the late Alexander and F. Catherine (Crowell) Moir. He graduated from Marlborough High School and attended Worcester Polytech, before joining the US Army, in 1963. Upon his return from Germany, he lived in Sterling, Mass., where he was a volunteer firefighter, EMT, and a member of the Civil Defense team. He was employed as a Senior Product Engineer in the abrasives department of the Norton Co., in Worcester for 20 years. Following his retirement in 1986, he moved to Glover, Vt., to pursue his passion for collecting and restoring military vehicles. He was a well respected military historian. His favorite pastimes were attending flea markets, auctions, working on his vehicles and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his companion and friend Patricia Berwaldt, of Chicopee; his daughter Kimberly M. Curtin and her husband Mark of Worcester, Mass.; his son Dwight H. Moir, of Englewood, Colo.; and several treasured grandchildren. He had been the husband of the late Audrey (Holdridge) Moir, who died in 1995. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., followed by a funeral service in the Slattery Funeral Home, Inc., 40 Pleasant St., Marlborough, MA. , 92, of Littleton, N.H., formally of Haverhill, Mass., passed away on Sept. 14, 2008, at Cottage Hospital with her daughters Laurie and Pearl by her side. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, Sept. 10, 1916, and raised in the Boston area. Gerri summered in Old Orchard Beach, Maine, with her life-long friend Helen McFadden and it was there she met her future husband Peter J. Simone. Together they raised three daughters and went on to establish a business, Walnut Square Variety in Haverhill, Mass., which they operated for 18 years. Upon retirement they moved to an area they both loved - the North Country. She was predeceased by her husband Peter John Simone on Feb. 8, 1986. Gerri took an active role at Pare's Sunshine Market in Littleton, N.H., which was owned by her daughter Laurie and son-in-law, Jack Pare. Gerri possessed a unique view of life, deriving pleasure in the simplest things it had to offer, with a wonderment and great appreciation of nature. She found joy in the beauty and majesty of the North Country. She marveled at all she had witnessed over her 92 years, from the invention of the television to a woman running for president. She had a great interest in politics and considered herself blessed to have led a fulfilled and joyful life. Surviving family members include daughters Thea Ryler and husband Joseph, of Absecon, N.J., Pearl Conte and Howard Wolpert of Salisbury Beach, Maine, and Laurie Pare and husband Jack of Bethlehem, N.H.; granddaughters Michelle Parsons; great-grandsons Brandon and Devin; Wendy Sotera and fiance Frank Nosek of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; grandsons Alan Conte of Haverhill, Maine; and Robert Cookinharn Jr., and wife Lori of Turnersville, N.J. , 73, beloved husband of Virginia (Gadapee) Dzen of South Windsor, Conn., died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, at Hartford Hospital, in Connecticut. Born in Hartford, Conn., on Nov. 9, 1934, son of the late Steven and Mary Dzen, he was a life-long resident of South Windsor. John was a life-long farmer in the town of South Windsor and raised potatoes, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and Christmas trees. He was a member of the National Christmas Tree Association and was a board member and a recipient of the merit award of the Connecticut Christmas Tree Growers Association. John was a well known innovator of new agricultural practices, establishing raised beds and chemical applications. John was an early conservator of soil and water and received many awards for woodchip technologies, was an advisor to the Connecticut Agricultural Experimental Station in Windsor, a member of the North American Strawberry Association, a member of the Wapping Cemetery Association and a member of the Super-Sixty Sportsman Club, South Windsor. In addition to his wife, Ginny, he leaves a son, John D. Dzen, Jr., his wife, Jennifer and their children, Daniel, Megan and Adam. He also leaves two brothers, a sister and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Jennifer. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held, Friday, Sept., 26, at 3 p.m., at Wapping Community Church, 1790 Ellington Road, South Windsor, Conn. There are no calling hours. He was laid to rest in Wapping Cemetery, South Windsor, after a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the John D. , 97, formerly of South Court Street, Woodsville, N.H., died on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, at the Grafton County Nursing Home in North Haverhill, N.H. She was born June 4, 1911, in Concord, N.H., the daughter of Charles C. and Grace (Fish) Battey. Mrs. Cochran graduated from Tufts University, Boston, Mass. She worked part time as a librarian at the Woodsville Public Library. She was predeceased by her husband of 72 years, Lawrence N. Cochran, on Nov. 21, 2006. Survivors include several nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held in the Blue Mountain Cemetery, Ryegate Corner, Vt., at the convenience of the family.
