Ed Taylor

, 69, of Johnson died in Ogden, Utah, on May 22, 2007. Mr. Taylor was born November 21, 1937, in Newport, a son of Mary and Clement Taylor. Most folks travel through life wishing for happiness - Ed Taylor found it everywhere. A constant whistler, he greeted each day God gave him with enthusiasm and more energy than the day could hold. He gave selflessly of his time and resources to the Boy Scouts of America, the American Legion, the Catholic church, Johnson Food Shelf, and his greatest source of pride, the Knights of Columbus. Corned beef cabbage dinner as a Knight's fund-raiser for 300 people? No problem. New computers for the elementary school? No problem. Gather a Boy Scout troop to whitewater raft in Maine? No problem. If he could envision an event that involved making others happy, he made it happen and encouraged everyone around him to help carry it out. He and his wife, Betty, were on an extended vacation, RVing across country, when an aortic aneurysm took his life. While he said he would never, ever drive across Texas again, he loved visiting the sites of this great country and exploring unexpected spots of beauty that also held history. In death, as in life, he gave of himself. Some of his bones, corneas, and skin tissue have been donated to help make someone else's life better. In Mr. Taylor's memory, please stop for a moment to aid someone with a thoughtful word or gesture, or give a little time to a local food shelf or animal shelter. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Betty; children: Mary Jo Willey and her husband, Nate, Terry Taylor, Larry Taylor and his wife, Christi, Tammy Patnoe and her husband, Matt, Troy Taylor and his wife, Amanda, and Todd Taylor and his fiancée, Alicia Turner; brothers and a sister: R. Marion Taylor, Richard Taylor and his wife, Theresa, Preston Taylor and his wife, Helen, and Adelord Taylor and his wife, Lois; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. His parents, Mary and Clement, and his brother Wilfred predeceased him. Donations in Mr. Taylor's memory may be made toward a scholarship to benefit a Lamoille Union High School senior in care of Ruth Schwartz, Union Bank, Morrisville, Vermont 05661 or to the Johnson Food Shelf. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated May 29.
