Lucille M. McMann
....show , 82, of Lost Nation Road, died Monday morning January 1, 2007, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon.
Mrs. McMann was born in Groveton, on June 10, 1924, the daughter of Bernard and Sarah Bronson.
Family members include two sons; William McMann of Jefferson and Michael McMann of Groveton; three brothers, Vernard Bronson of Jefferson, Roland Bronson of Bethlehem, Kenneth Bronson of Lancaster; three sisters, Catherine Webster of Florida, Bethany Bronson of Stark, and Cora Bronson of Littleton. She was predeceased by, her husband Cleveland McMann and a brother Robert Bronson.
Burial will be held in the spring in Northumberland Cemetery.
GUILDHALL -
Gary Dean Brown
....show , 49, died Friday January 5, 2007, at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, as a result of a work related injury.
Mr. Brown was born in Saint Johnsbury, Vermont on May 7, 1957, the son of Sherwood and Vivian (Hodgdon) Brown.
Gary was a family man, whose greatest pleasure was spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and his two dogs, Rudy and Kallie.
He enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing and four wheeling.
Family members include, his parents of Granby, VT; his wife of 30 years Tammy Brown of Guildhall; two children, Stacey Valdez and her husband Daniel of Lancaster; Gary Brown and his wife Patty of Guildhall; six grandchildren, Daniel, Spencer, Parker, and Justin Valdez, Cassady and Nathaniel Brown, three brothers, Robert Brown and his wife Laurie of Rumford, ME, Gene Brown and Jeff Brown and his wife Dorene all of Granby; a sister Cindy Bilodeau and her husband Leonard also of Granby and several nieces and nephews.
At Gary's request there are no calling hour's. A memorial service will be held Tuesday January 9, at 3:00 PM at the Guildhall Community Church. Reverend Gerry Piper will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridgwell Cemetery, Guildhall.

Ernestine L. Blanchard
....show , 81, died Tuesday January 9, 2007, at Weeks Medical center, Lancaster.
Mrs. Blanchard was born on June 5, 1925, in Colebrook, the daughter of Ernest and Laura (Wheeler) Cass.
Ernestine was a longtime North Country resident. For a time she was employed for the Gilman Paper Company and was a chambermaid at the Evergreen Motel in Jefferson for many years.
Family members include a daughter Joyce Dupont of Lancaster; a son Wayne Reed of Jefferson; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son George Cass and three sisters, Pearl White, Evelyn Cass, and Mildred Gray.
There are no visiting hours or services scheduled at this time. Burial will be in the spring in Jefferson.

Mark E. Wheeler
....show , 49, died on January 12, 2007, from post surgical complications following thyroid surgery at the West Los Angeles Veterans Hospital. He was born on April 25, 1957 in Lancaster, NH to the late Nathalie (Brisson) Wheeler and the late Robert Kimble Wheeler. He attended Lancaster Elementary School. Following the death of his mother in 1974, Esther Greenwood and her late husband Paul of Lancaster generously opened their home to Mark while he completed his senior year at White Mountains Regional High School. Following graduation in 1975 he moved to Newport Beach, CA. He attended Orange Coast College and was employed as a clerk for several grocery stores. He joined the Army in 1979 and served five years with the U.S. Army Green Berets as a medic. He took part in the U.S. military occupation of Granada in November-December, 1983. He was discharged from active duty in 1984 after breaking an ankle in a parachute jump during a training exercise. He later served several years with the Army Reserve. He had a life long passion for skiing and was employed as a ski instructor at the Sun Valley, Idaho ski school for a number of years. He greatly enjoyed his last ski trip to Heavenly Valley at Lake Tahoe, CA in December. He worked with the U.S. Forestry Service as a fire fighter for several years. He worked in auto sales and inventory control for a large Ford dealership in Aurora, Colorado. He was currently attending the Santa Barbara City College, CA Radiographic and Imaging program and was due to graduate as a Radiographic Technician in the spring.
He is survived by two brothers, Stephen B. Wheeler and his wife Nova of Newport Beach, CA, Christopher R. Wheeler and his wife Marilyn of Lancaster, NH, along with two Aunts, Mary Louise (Wheeler) Almeida of Ludlow, MA and Elizabeth (Brisson) Pelkey of Yorba Linda, CA, many cousins, two nieces, two grand-nieces and two grand nephews. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the family at a later date.
The Santa Barbara City College will have a flag lowering service with all his classmates present on Tuesday January 30th at 12:00 PM on the West Campus in front of the library.
SOUTH LUNENBURG -
Roy L. Goodwin
....show , 80, of River Road, died at his home Saturday morning January 27, 2007.
Mr. Goodwin was born in Dalton, NH, on November 10, 1926, the son of Roy L. Goodwin Sr. and Annie (Stone) Goodwin.
Roy was raised in the Dalton and Gilman area. During World War II he served with the US Navy. He attended and later taught at the St. Johnsbury Trade School. He worked for the Gilman Paper Company for many years and also Fairbanks Scales in St. Johnsbury. For a time he resided in Concord, NH, where he was employed at the New Hampshire State Prison for 12 years. In 1980 he returned to Lunenburg. He enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his family. Especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Family members include his wife Bertha (Brown) Goodwin of South Lunenburg; five daughters, Cheryl Lucier and her fiancee Peter Krauss of Mims, FL, Darlene Egan and special friend Stephen Burt of S. Lunenburg, Brenda Tewksbury and fiancee Kevin Mackay of Lyndonville, Robin Monahan and husband Norman of Gilman, Hope Yeargle and husband Michael of Littleton; a sister Roberta Baird of Virginia; a sister-in-law, Helen Goodwin of St. Johnsbury; 13 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Clyde Goodwin and Oral Goodwin.
He was a member of the John W. Weeks VFW Post, Lancaster.

Mrs. Howland was born in Lancaster, on April 16, 1945, the daughter of Clifford and Ethel (Barnes) Barrows.
Linda was a lifetime resident of the North Country, residing in Lancaster most of her life. She has been a resident of Groveton for the past five years. She was a homemaker, and enjoyed knitting and making arts & crafts.
Family members include two daughters; Ann Corrigan and her husband Tim of Jefferson; and Billie Howland and her fiancé Tim Mulcahy of Fairbanks, Alaska, a sister Joyce Hatch of Vermont, 4 grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Reginald Howland.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday evening, February 7, from 5-8 PM at the Bailey Funeral home, Lancaster.

Ronald L. Colby
....show , 69, of Pond Hill Road, died Sunday February 4, 2007, at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster.
Mr. Colby was born in East Concord, VT on October 22, 1937, the son of Elwin and Verl (Fisher) Colby.
Ronald was born and raised in East Concord, moving to Lunenburg after his marriage to Florence F. Roy on September 5, 1959. For 45 years he worked in various paper mills, including Gilman Paper, Diamond International, James River, and from Wausau where he retired in 1998.
His hobbies included horseshoes and bingo, he was also an avid Red Sox and Celtics fan. His greatest enjoyment was family activities, especially time spent with his grandchildren.

Mrs. Lewin was born in Millinocket, Maine, on February 26, 1952, the daughter of Renee` and Clotus E. (Levasseur) Gagnon.
Ruth was a people person, dedicating her time caring for the elderly, she passionately loved, animals, enjoyed ceramics, painting, and going to yard sales. She was also very proud of her Native American Heritage.
Family members include her husband Nathan E. Lewin Sr. of Lancaster, a daughter Leah Poulin of Lewiston, ME, two grandchildren, Alexis and Michael, two brothers, Reed Gagnon and James Cyr both of Bangor, a sister Jan Styles of Lancaster, seven stepchildren, Nathan Jr., Eric, Kent, Brenda, Julie, Clint and Lynn, 16 step grandchildren. Charles J. Merrow
....show , 63, a Hospice patient, died peacefully Sunday afternoon, February 4, 2007, surrounded by his family.
Mr. Merrow was born in Berlin, NH, on June 24, 1943, the son of Charles Gilman Buster Merrow and Amelia Mildred Millie Malasky.
Raised in Lancaster he attended schools there and at one time operated the family farm with his father in Jefferson. For many years he worked as a heavy equipment operator in the construction business. He was self employed and also worked for Tom Parks and Hooper Rexford. For the past year and a half he has been a resident of the Highland House in Whitefield.
Family members include a son Charles W.V. Merrow of Littleton; three daughters, Wendy Reed of Dalton, Becky Newton of Groveton, and Holly Merrow of Lancaster; three sisters, Arlene Gambeski of Norwich, CT, Brenda Wood of Boothbay Harbor, ME, Carolyn Antone of Colchester, VT; and eight grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister Mona Lauzon.

Miss Garrion was born in Littleton on April 17, 1951, the daughter of Rodney and Frances Garrion.
Marie was a graduate of Littleton High School and for a time she worked as a stitcher at Connor Footware. She was a lifelong resident of Littleton until moving to Whitefield a year ago.

Woodrow W. Rogers
....show , 90, of Chambers Road, died Monday February 12, 2007, at his home.
Mr. Rogers was born in Jefferson, on September 21, 1916, the son of John and Edith (Persons) Rogers.
Woodrow was a 1933 graduate of Jefferson High School. After graduation he worked during the summer on his family farm and during the winter he worked with horses in the woods hauling pulp. He purchased the Melvin Davis farm in 1946; he later bought his familys farm and homestead. He then started a small dairy operation, building it to about 100 head of cattle. In 1953 he was the Green Pasture winner for the State of New Hampshire, for overall operations of the farm, including forage, pasture, and herd productions. He was a pioneer in using artificial insemination in the State of New Hampshire, and one of the first in Coos County to improve his herd.
In 1966 he was selected to be a Director of the Lancaster National Bank, for which he held the position for 22 years until he retired at the age of 72. In recent years he has resided at the Jefferson home of his great nephew Mike Kenison and his wife Jen.
Family members include, a sister Phyllis Kenison of Jefferson and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by, two brothers, John A. Rogers and Woodbury Rogers, two sisters, Lucy Tucker and Philida Silver.

Lois W. Spotholz
....show , 76, of North Road died February 15, 2007 at her home.
Mrs. Spotholz was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 19, 1930, the daughter of Alfred and Mildred (Evans) Williston.
Lois was a graduate of Taft High School in Illinois. She was also a graduate of the University of Illinois, earning her Bachelors degree in Home Economics. Her employment included, for several years she was the Director of Home Economics for the Grand Union Company, in Elmwood Park, New Jersey, she was responsible for label and package copy of Grand Union brand items, as well as nutritional labeling, and developed recipes for such items. She also supervised food preparation for T.V. commercials, newspapers and promotional releases. For two years she worked at St. Lukes Hospital in New York, working in areas of nutrition and heart disease. While there she worked on a new method for determining blood-clotting time.
She has resided in Lancaster for the past 12 years, moving from Montvale, New Jersey.
Family members include her husband of 51 years, Clifford Spotholz of Jefferson, a brother George Williston of Fort Myers, FL and several nieces and nephews.

Elaine S. Barnett
....show 85, of Railroad Street, died peacefully on Friday February 16, 2007 at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster.
Mrs. Barnett was born in Bloomfield, Vermont on December 25, 1921 the daughter of Floyd and Maude (Trufant) Shoff.
Elaine was a graduate of Stratford High School and attended Lyndon Teachers College. In 1945 she married Harold E. Barnett. For the last 41 years her most cherished time was spent at her summer cottage on Seymour Lake in Morgan, Vermont. She also enjoyed her time at Colonel Town with the Seniors on the Move. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a friend to all.
She was a member of the Advent Christian Church, Whitefield.
Family members include a daughter, Patricia B. Lee and her husband Brian of Lancaster, a stepdaughter Beverly A. Campbell of Enfield, NH; a local granddaughter Karie Elaine Bennett and her husband Randy of Whitefield; other grandchildren include two grandsons; two granddaughters; three local great-grandchildren Elaina Madeline Bennett, Amanda Bennett, Daniel Bennett, six other great-grandchildren and her beloved cat Dusty. She was predeceased by, her husband Harold E. Barnett on November 6, 1998 and by a stepson Robert Barnett in 1988.

....show , 79, of Ford Road, died Sunday evening, February 25, 2007 at the Veterans Administration Hospital, White River Jct., VT.
Mr. Ford was born in Guildhall, Vermont on February 5, 1928, the son of Fred and Celia (Ball) Ford.
Chan was a long time resident of Maidstone. He served in the US Army during WWII and later with the Army National Guard. For 25 years he was employed at the Peoples Bank in Groveton and for 18 years was a self employed sales representative for Electrolux.
He was a member of John W. Weeks Post 3041, Lancaster, American Legion, Groveton, and the Gilkey Masonic Lodge, Groveton.
He is survived by, a stepson, Wayne Elliott Sr.of Maidstone,VT; six grandchildren, Atashia Downs, Rotina Johnson, Leola Sobliros, Wayne Elliott Jr., Ora Elliott, Raymond Elliott. He was predeceased by, his wife Phyllis J. (Nelson) Ford and his brother Rodney Ford.

Elmer H. Gilman Jr.
....show , 71, died Wednesday evening, February 28, 2007, at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Manchester.
Mr. Gilman was born in Littleton, NH on October 1, 1935, the son of Elmer H. and Muriel P. (Stiles) Gilman.
Elmer was raised in Whitefield and was a 1953 graduate of Whitefield High School. After graduation he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He moved to Lancaster after his marriage to his wife Patricia Buteau on February 23, 1957. He was employed by Groveton Paper, Diamond International and James River starting in the accounting department and then becoming purchasing agent, retiring after 34 years.
Elmer loved music and it was a big part of his life. He particularly enjoyed playing the trumpet and performed with the All State Band in high school and was in a local dance band known as the LA 49er's. He also enjoyed fishing, golfing, and traveling to warmer climates.
Elmer was a member of John W. Weeks Post 3041, Lancaster, and American Legion, Groveton and a former board member of the Lancaster Fair, and of the Jaycees.
He was a Communicant of All Saints Church, Lancaster.
Family members include his wife of 50 years Patricia Gilman of Lancaster; a son Jeffrey Gilman and his wife Jane of Lancaster, two daughters Tricia Bishop and her husband Allan of Dover, Sherri Marquis and her husband Alan of Somersworth; 7 grandchildren, Courtney, Griffin, Lauren, Bradford, Arielle, Evan and Meredith; a brother Gene Gilman and his wife Sonja of North Woodstock; a sister Geneva Gilman and her husband Robert of Sebring, FL, and several nieces and nephews.

....show was born at the Littleton Regional Hospital in Littleton, NH. Loving daughter to Chuck and Penny McKinnon, sister and best friend to Kattie McKinnon.
A junior at Littleton Regional High School, she loved playing field hockey, played the flute, enjoyed photography and worked after school at the YMCA Safe Program and the Franconia Summer Rec Program. She had a great passion for working with children.
Elizabeth loved life, her family, friends and her two dogs, Jack and Daisy. Her beauty and smile brought sunshine to every life she touched. Her heart will be alive forever.
Elizabeth is survived by both adoring parents, her loving sister and many close family members. Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Littleton, at 2:00 PM on Saturday the 10th of March. A celebration of her life will be held at the church immediately following the ceremony.

Ruth M. Harris
....show , 83, died March 9,2007, at Littleton Regional Hospital after a sudden illness following a long period of declining health.
Ruth was born in Whitefield on May 3, 1923, the youngest of eight children of William A. and Lydia (Priest) Harris.
She graduated from the Whitefield High School in 1941.
Ruth was a Registered Nurse, having graduated from Elliot Community Hospital School of Nursing in Keene in 1945. She also received many additional certificates for several nursing courses including a three-month course in Pediatrics at Boston Hospital and Psychiatric Nursing instruction and practice in Concord in 1944.
She worked for many years at the Littleton Regional Hospital with a special interest in emergency care. She also worked as a nurse in other hospitals including some in the State of Florida.
Surviving family members include her sisters Helen Putnam and Roxana Peck and her brother Lauren Harris and his wife Adrienne, all of Whitefield; nieces, nephews, and other extended family. A sister Mabel Harris and three brothers, William, George and Winston Harris, predeceased her.
A graveside service will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family.

Samuel Bartow Sr.
....show , 95, died peacefully March 18, 2007 at the home of his longtime caregiver, Cheryl MacKillop, at 580 North Road, The Farm, surrounded by his extended family.
Mr. Bartow was born on July 18, 1911, the youngest of four children of Rev. Howard Key Bartow and Florence (Cragin) Bartow in Cohasset, Massachusetts.
He married his wife Alma (Bird) Bartow on January 1, 1935, in Boston, MA, at the Ritz Carlton.
For many years he was employed with Boston Sand & Gravel, retiring in 1960. At that time he and Alma moved to Lancaster where he enjoyed his new enterprise of restoring old homes for resale. He also enjoyed skiing, playing golf and cruising area lakes and ponds in his Boston Whaler.
Sam generously gave his time and resources to the community. He was a driving force behind the re-opening of Mount Prospect ski area in Lancaster, he supported Dollars for Scholars, and his gifted ability for investment was a blessing to St. Pauls Episcopal Church where he served many years on the finance committee. He was also of the St. Pauls Vestry Committee, the Rotary Club, and the Waumbek Country Club.
Family members include a son Samuel Bartow Jr. of Portland, Oregon; two daughters, Anna Key Bartow of New Haven, CT, Elizabeth Campen of Billings, Montana; 8 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Alma and siblings Howard Jr., Mary and Katherine.
Visiting hours will be held Friday evening March 23, from 5:00 to 8:00 at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A funeral service will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at St. Pauls Church in Lancaster. Rev. David Rose, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Summer Street Cemetery, Lancaster.

EAST CONCORD, VT -
Arthur Gordon Sterling
....show , lovingly known as Slim, from East Concord, VT, passed away at the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehab on March 22, 2007 at the age of 87.
Slim, the oldest of five children, born to Walter and Lena (Grant) Sterling was born in North Conway, NH on October 1, 1919. He was raised by, his grandparents in Bartlett, NH where he attended grammar school and two years of high school. He worked logging in the winter and farming his Grandfathers 700-acre farm.
On October 1, 1941 Slim and Harriet Cooper were married in North Conway. Shortly after marrying, he worked in the shipyards in Massachusetts, before returning to the farm. Slim started working at the Gilman Paper Co. in September of 1945 and remained there for 36 years until his retirement in 1981.
He was active in the community as he served on the Concord School board for 17 years and often drove the Concord School bus. He was well known by the locals for his raising of turkeys and butchering skills. He loved fishing and hunting on Leonard Hill and spending his summers up at camp.
Arthur is survived by his wife Harriet of 65 years, his three sons; Albert Sterling and his wife Judy of Merrimack, NH, Wayne Stretch Sterling and Richard Sterling both of East Concord, VT; a brother Robert of Middleboro, MA; nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held in the spring in Overlook Cemetery, East Concord, VT.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Gilman Senior Center, Gilman, VT.

Paul W. Red Sullivan
....show , 75, died Thursday morning March 29, 2007, after a year long battle with pancreatic cancer, surrounded by his wife and children at his home on 18 Wolcott Street.
Mr. Sullivan was born one of six children to Frank James and Estella Ruth (Floyd) Sullivan on September 18, 1931 in Lost Nation in Groveton.
He was a lifelong resident of the North Country and farmed during his youth. Attending Groveton schools he graduated from Groveton High School in 1951. He then attended trade school in Randolph, VT. From 1953-55 he was enlisted with the US Army and served on peacekeeping missions in Germany during the Korean Conflict. On returning home he worked for Seward Construction, Cray Oil Company, Wally Kingsleys gas station, and a brief time for the US Postal Service.
For many years he was employed with Morris Building Materials that later became Kilkenny Building Center. He retired in 1996 but continued to work at Kilkenny part time. Along with his busy life he and his wife have been custodians of the Lancaster Congregational United Church of Christ for 41 years.
Paul enjoyed fishing with his children and grandchildren and helping his son with his greenhouse business. He loved and enjoyed his family, home and garden, and was very proud of his Irish heritage.
He was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the John W. Weeks VFW Post #3041, Lancaster, and the National Rifle Association.
Family members include his loving wife, Gloria M. (Flynn) Sullivan of Lancaster; a son Frederick Sullivan and his wife Patti, of Lancaster; a daughter Pamela J. (Sullivan) Frizzell and her husband Robert of Groveton; a sister Frances Pepau and her husband John of Percy, NH; grandchildren, Allison Marie Sullivan and Paul Robert Frizzell, Abbey and Amanda Frizzell; Randy and Nicholas Blodgett along with Lynne, Dawn, Sherri and their families; a great granddaughter Kamryn Jaycee Ledger, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Bea Flynn; many nephews, nieces, and cousins. A son Edward P. Sullivan, his parents, four siblings, James, Donald, Forrest and Gladys all died previously.
Visiting hours will be held Sunday evening April 1, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A Funeral service will be held Monday morning at 11:00 AM at the Christ United Methodist Church, Lancaster. Co-officiating will be Rev. Dr. Thomas W. Bentum, pastor, and Rev. Curtis W. Smith of Lancaster. Burial with military honors will follow in Summer Street Cemetery, Lancaster.
