, 89, of Derby Line died peacefully April 1, 2007, in Newport. Mrs. Gosselin was born February 27, 1918, in Newport Center, a daughter of William and Antoinette (Deslandes) Chaput. On August 11, 1936, she married Edward Gosselin Sr., who predeceased her on December 24, 2001. She was a helpmate to her husband on the family farm in Derby. She was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church in Derby Line and the Daughters of Isabella in Quebec. She enjoyed cooking, working on the family farm, mending clothes for her children, attending family gatherings, and spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her children: Leon W. "Bill" Gosselin and his wife, Germaine, of Derby Line, Alice Couture of St. Albans, Edward Gosselin Jr. and his wife, Louise, of Derby Line, Leo Gosselin and his wife, Pauline, of Newport, and Germaine Guillette and her husband, Robert, of Brownington; a daughter-in-law, Loraine Gosselin, of Derby; a sister-in-law, Claudette Chaput, of Newport Center; by 24 grandchildren; by 46 great-grandchildren; by two great-great-grandchildren; by siblings: Felix Chaput and his wife, Ivah, of Derby, Fern Chaput and his wife, Gerry, of Derby Line, Leontine Belisle of Newport, Bernadette Belisle of Derby Line, Ida Row and her husband, Wayne, of Charlestown, New Hampshire, and Vivian Farrar of Newport; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Roger Gosselin; by three brothers: Gerard, Adrian, and Leo Paul Chaput; and by a sister, Florence Campbell. Funeral services were held April 4 at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Derby Line with the Reverend Yvon Royer celebrating a Mass of Christian Burial. , 86, of Hardwick and Dade City, Florida, died peacefully on Friday, March 16, 2007. Mr. Dufrane was born August 5, 1920, in New Jersey, a son of the late George and Emma (Gray) Dufrane. He attended public schools in New Canaan, Connecticut. Following his education he entered the U.S. military, serving in the Army's Screamin' Eagles 101st Airborne Division from September 4, 1942, to November 26, 1945. He owned and operated Benny's Restaurant in Hardwick until his retirement. He played drums in the Reveler's Band and the Golden Oldies and played big band music in Vermont and around Dade City, where he spent many winters. He was a life member of American Legion Post 7 of Hardwick and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9653 of Morrisville. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Amy; three stepsons: Mike Bean and his wife, Leanne, of Waterville, David Bean and his wife, Kim, of Hardwick, and Clarence Judkins and his wife, Danielle, of Greensboro Bend; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his stepson Gordie Bean. A graveside service will be held later in the spring in Fairview Cemetery in Hardwick.

, 87, of Glover died March 27, 2007, in Barton. Mrs. Darling was born September 17, 1919, in Barton, a daughter of John and Effie (Crawford) Hancock. On September 22, 1937, she married Russell Darling Sr., who predeceased her. During her lifetime, she helped with the family farm, sugared, and drove the school bus for Glover for many years. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Grange in Glover. She is survived by her children: Marion Cubit of Albany, Russell Darling and his wife, Marion, of Glover, Raymond Darling and his wife, Mary Ann, of Barton, Rachel Bean and her husband, Robert, of Glover, and Rona Bruneau and her husband, John, of Irasburg; by 17 grandchildren; by numerous great-grandchildren; by a brother, Kenneth Hancock, of Derry, New Hampshire; by two sisters, Lillian Rainer of Florida and Lois Bennett of Brownington; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four brothers: Roy, Robert, Charles, and Lee Hancock. Funeral services were held March 31 at the Glover Community Church with the Reverend Jerry Piper officiating. Spring interment will be in Westlook Cemetery in Glover. , 84, of Craftsbury died in the loving care of her family on Wednesday evening, March 28, 2007. Mrs. Butler was born in Eden on March 4, 1923, a daughter of Glenn Darling and Lillian Marckres Darling Guay. She attended school in Wolcott and Eden. On August 2, 1942, she married George Butler, who died in October 1992. She and her husband raised their family in East Craftsbury, where she was employed by Morris Rowell for several years. She was devoted to her family. She was a member of the United Church of Craftsbury, was active in the church choir, and sang with the ecumenical choir in Craftsbury. She leaves two sons, Glenn "Buck" Butler of Craftsbury and Edward Butler of Scottsdale, Arizona; three daughters: Linda Lussier and her husband, Bernard, of Craftsbury, Carole Young and her husband, Brian, of Glover, and Bonnie Young and her husband, Owen, of Glover; two brothers, Donald Darling and his wife, Beryl, of Craftsbury and Lee Darling of Morrisville; 12 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, George; by her son George, who died at age four; and her sister Dorothy Dezaine, who died in May 2006. A funeral service was held March 31 at the United Church of Craftsbury with the Reverend Ben Thurber officiating. Spring interment will be in the Hyde Park Plains Cemetery. of Orleans lost her battle with cancer on April 6, 2007, when she died peacefully in Newport at age 77. Mrs. Coburn was born in Orleans on January 23, 1930, to Gordon and Ida (Lathe) Austin. She lived most of her life in Orleans Village, becoming a well-known person in the town due to her participation in the Christmas Club and her dedication to the Orleans Federated Church. She will mostly be remembered by townspeople, though, as just being Avis, the sweet woman who worked behind the counter at Austin's Drug Store for over 35 years. In November 1949 she married Lewis Coburn, and together they had four children. She lived for her children and was delighted each time a new grandchild or great-grandchild was born into the family. She felt very strongly about family bonds, and she was a wonderful matriarch to the entire Coburn family, becoming peacemaker and voice of reason whenever it was necessary. She is survived by her brother Dwayne Austin and his wife, Shirley, of Jericho; by a sister, Evelyn Ross, of Danielson, Connecticut; by her four children: Doug Coburn and his wife, Patricia, of Warner, New Hampshire, Don Coburn and his wife, Joyce, of Orleans, Diana Reed of Orleans, and Dolores Stoddard and her husband, Richard, of Orleans; by seven grandchildren: Susan Coburn of Orleans, Jeff Coburn and his wife, Denise, of Orleans, Randi Morse and her husband, Scott, of Coventry, Jeremy Reed of Orleans, Larry Reed of Orleans, Ashley Reed and her fiancé, Nelson Beauchesne, of Claremont, New Hampshire, and Holly Coburn of Warner. She was known as "Little Grammie" by her beloved great-grandchildren: Allison and Destiny Hall of Orleans, Austin and Averi Morse of Coventry, Donovan and Callista Reed of Orleans, William and Annabelle Coburn of Orleans, and Abagail Beauchesne of Claremont. She was predeceased by her beloved sister Wanita Burkewitz and her husband, Rodney; and by her beloved brother Dale Austin and his wife, Mary. Funeral services were held April 11 at the Orleans Federated Church with the Reverend Gerry Piper officiating. Spring interment will be in Pleasantview Cemetery in Orleans. , 23, of St. Johnsbury died of leukemia Sunday night, April 1, 2007, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire. Mr. Royer was born in Newport on November 14, 1983. He attended Sheffield schools. He was disabled with lymphedema at the age of ten and was diagnosed with leukemia in August 2005. He really enjoyed working with the Ryegate Fire Department and, when able, was its truck maintenance man. He enjoyed working on motors and transmissions and doing body work and paint work; anything to do with cars and electrical, he could do it. Since the age of 15 he participated in demolition derbies at the Orleans, Caledonia, North Haverhill, and Bradford fairs. He always built his own cars and helped his brother Bobby get started with demos. They were known as the Royer Destroyers. Jennie Dion was his mentor and a very special friend. Rachel Barton was a special friend who was there for him at times throughout his illness. Even though he was sick, he took the summer off from his cancer treatments to participate in three more demo derbies last July and August. In the last few months since he moved to St. Johnsbury, he got a chance to spend quality time with his little brother Harlan, age 11, teaching and encouraging him to build model and remote-controlled cars. He is survived by his mother, Anna Conley, and her fiancé, Ben Berwick, of St. Johnsbury; by two brothers, Robert Royer and Harlan Miles of St. Johnsbury; by his father, Eric Royer, of McIntosh, Florida; by his maternal grandfather, Jessie Conley Sr., of Orleans; by his paternal grandmother, ErlineMacie, of Florida; by a son, Cooper, of New Hampshire; by his former stepfather Everett Miles of Derby; by aunts, uncles, and cousins; and by a bazillion friends. A memorial service was held at the Ryegate Fire Department April 7. Bernard Pudvah

, 88, of Hardwick died peacefully at the Union House Nursing Home in Glover on April 5, 2007, after a brief battle with cancer. Mr. Pudvah was born July 11, 1918, in Lowell, a son of the late John and Mary (Murphy) Pudvah. He grew up in Barton. After graduation he attended Burlington Business College. He married Francis Baldwin in 1938 and then enlisted in the United States Navy. He served during World War II. In 1949 he and his wife moved to Hardwick where they raised their four children. He worked at area businesses and retired from St. Johnsbury Trucking Company in 1982. He enjoyed 25 years of retirement, playing golf in the summers and following high school basketball in the winters while spending time with his family. He was able to see his beloved Boston Red Sox win the World Series. He is survived by his wife, Francis; by his children: Dennis Pudvah and his wife, Emma, of Hardwick, Nancy Smith and her husband, Samuel, of Waterbury, Timothy Pudvah and his wife, Carmon, of East Montpelier, and Michael Pudvah of Johnson; by three granddaughters; by nine grandsons; and by eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by three older brothers and five older sisters. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Norbert's Church in Hardwick April 9 with internment in the late spring at Fairview Cemetery Hardwick. , 96, a former resident of the Craftsbury Community Care Center and of Belhaven, North Carolina, died Tuesday morning, April 3, 2007, at the Greensboro Nursing Home, where she had been living since September 2006. Mrs. McKnight was born in Rutherford, New Jersey, on May 31, 1910, a daughter of Charles W. and Sara (Buxton) Field. She attended Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts. She married Gordon Lane, and after his death, she married Stanley McKnight. She was a volunteer at the Belhaven Museum and at the local hospital, and she was active in community and civic organizations. She was a great philanthropist and loved to travel. She was fortunate to have traveled with tour groups throughout the world. When at home, she loved to tend her flower gardens. She never had children but was both an aunt and great-aunt and leaves those family members behind as well as some special friends in both Vermont and North Carolina. She was predeceased by her husbands and two brothers, Douglas Field and Richard Field. In her giving spirit, she donated her body to Dartmouth College Medical School. Her final resting place will be in the family lot at the Peacham Cemetery. Contributions in Mrs. McKnight's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.

, 64, of Newport died peacefully April 8, 2007, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Lemieux was born February 28, 1943, in Newport, a son of Dollard and Edith (Labounty) Lemieux. On November 30, 1963, he married Linda Gibney, who predeceased him on October 11, 2002. He entered the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1964. He was a member of the Vermont National Guard. During his lifetime he completed restoration work as a carpenter, painter, and mason. He received an associate's degree from Champlain College in Burlington. For two years he attended Durham College in Durham, New Hampshire. He then received his master's degree in wildlife management and game conservation from Shoshaween College in Wyoming. He is survived by five children: Alfred Joseph Lemieux Jr. and his wife, Dajana, of Newport, Tony Joseph Lemieux and his wife, Rose, of Newport Center, Rodney Joseph Lemieux and his wife, Lynn, of McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey, Kathy J. Montminy and her husband, Bruce, of Glover, and Michelle Billado and her husband, Carlton Jr., of Troy; by 14 grandchildren; by two great-grandchildren; and by a sister, Mary Blais, of Newport. , 72, of Hardwick died Wednesday, April 4, 2007, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. Mr. Dickson was born January 8, 1935, in Greensboro, a son of the late John and Adella (Dezan) Dickson. He attended Greensboro and Craftsbury public schools. On May 26, 1956, he married Madeline Faye Provoncha in Hardwick. He was a dairy farmer for all of his working years. He first worked for his parents on the family farm and later worked on several farms throughout northern Vermont, including the Carl Lilley farm in Craftsbury, the Everett Willey farm in Greensboro, the Arthur Clifford farm in Starksboro, and the Bissonette farm in Hinesburg. He retired in the early 1980s due to failing health. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing horseshoes. Survivors include his wife, Madeline, of Hardwick; two sons, Michael Dickson of Lyndonville and Douglas Dickson and his wife, Lynnette, of Parrish, Florida; four daughters: Kathy Hall and her husband, Thomas, of Milton, Lorie Dickson of Middletown, Pennsylvania, Lisa Button and her husband, Steve, of Huntington, and Donna Jones and her husband, Bruce, of Elmore; two brothers, Roger Dickson of Walden and Eugene Dickson of Albany; a sister, Lillian Chaffee, of Hardwick; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. On January 25, 1945, she married Lester Alberghini, who predeceased her in 1994. She was owner and operator of Alberghini's Grocery Store in North Troy for many years. She enjoyed cooking and flower gardening, and she cherished her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She treasured her many close friendships. She is survived by two children, Leslie Bishop and her husband, Bob, of North Troy and Tom Alberghini and his wife, Linda, of Rochester, New Hamsphire; by four grandchildren: Travis, Tara, Bianca, and Jared; by two great-grandchildren, Max and Malli; by a brother, Tom Brennan, of Newport; by a sister, Dorothy Portughese, of Brockton, Massachusetts; and by her cat, Mr. George, with whom she has spent many years. , 55, died Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at his home in Craftsbury in the loving care of his family. Mr. Williams was born in Lowell, Massachusetts, on August, 27, 1951, a son of Edgar A. and F. Virginia (Acher) Williams. He was raised in North Billerica, Massachusetts, and earned a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Massachusetts. On June 5, 1976, he married Cheryl Miner in the Chapel at Northfield Mount Hermon School in Northfield, Massachusetts. Before coming to Craftsbury, he worked for the Riley Stoker Boiler Company in Worcester and the H.B. Smith Company in Westfield, Massachusetts. He was the plant manger at Sterling College in Craftsbury Common from 1976 until his disability. He was a member of the Craftsbury Fire Department and had been the clerk for the Craftsbury Common water company. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing, and riding motorcycles. He was an avid reader and loved spending time with his children. He leaves his wife, Cheryl, of Craftsbury; his daughter Katherine E. Williams of Craftsbury; his son Christopher David Williams of Craftsbury; two brothers, Robert A. Williams and his wife, Elizabeth, of Oxford, North Carolina, and Richard Williams and his wife, Priscilla, of Westford, Massachusetts; his father- and mother-in-law, Dave and Silvia Miner, of Westmore; 12 nieces and nephews; and other extended family members. , 65, of Orleans died suddenly on April 14, 2007, at her home. Mrs. Tanguay was born May 12, 1941, in Irasburg, the eldest daughter of Roland and Gilberte (Campbell) Lanoue. On August 13, 1960, she married Fernand J. Tanguay, who survives her. She was active in her church in many ways, including parish council, 100 Club, and Orleans Ladies Guild. She was chairman or volunteer in many fund-raising activities of Trinity Parish and St. Paul's School. She volunteered extensively in Marriage Encounter and Engaged Encounter. She was a member of Precana marriage preparation course team. She enjoyed serving as a substitute cook for area schools where she was able to visit with lots of children. She served as store coordinator each year for the Vermont Odyssey of the Mind program. In earlier years she operated a daycare, and she owned and operated the Barton Laundromat. She worked with her husband as office manager in the insurance business. She was happiest when cooking and caring for her family, visiting with friends, and helping others. She is survived by her husband, Fernand; by her two children, Michael Tanguay and his wife, Diane, of Orleans and Anita Perkins and her husband, Tim, of Richmond; and by three grandchildren, who she thought the world of: Reanna and Alan Tanguay of Orleans and Megen Perkins of Richmond; by her parents, Roland and GilberteLanoue; by brothers: YvonLanoue and his wife, Doris, Gerard Lanoue and his wife, Monica, and Ronald Lanoue; by her sisters Joan Firkey and Louise Miles; and by several nieces and nephews. , 73, longtime Newark farmer, died at his home on Wednesday, April 11, 2007. Mr. Rice was born January 27, 1934, in Greenfield, Massachusetts, to Glen and Frances May (Kilburn) Rice. He came to Vermont at the age of eight and graduated from Lyndon Institute in 1952. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and served in the Korean War. He married DrusellaGonyaw of Greensboro Bend on July 4, 1956. They started farming in Lyndonville in 1957 and in 1962 moved to Newark where they farmed until retirement in 2004. Together they spent 45 years creating the Rice homestead. All who helped on the farm referred to them as Mom and Dad. He had an active sense of humor and had nicknames for all his children. He had a mind for trivia and American military history and loved football, especially the Dallas Cowboys. Most of all he loved his farm and loved and knew the Lord. He will be greatly missed. A wonderful husband and loving father, he and his wife raised six children: Andrew Rice and his wife, Alicia, of Indiana, Della Bishop and her husband, Mike, of Lancaster, New Hampshire, Carolyn Darling and her husband, Malcolm, of South Ryegate, Sandra Wells and her husband, Gregory, of Essex Junction, JoDee Rice of Pennsylvania, and Deanna Deis and her husband, Steven, of New York. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Tammy and Michelle Farnham, Randy and Kevin Brewer, and Morgan Deis; by two great-grandchildren, Kyra and Maria-Rain; by his sister Janette Patten of Coventry; by his best friend, Jim O'Hop, of Newark; by two sisters-in-law, Marcelina Smith of Lyndonville and Margaret Smith of Concord; and by brother-in-law Forrest Degreenia of Cabot. And of course there is his canine buddy, "Hey you!" Graveside services will be held Monday, May 14, at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant Street Cemetery in Newark. Pastor John Tremblay will officiate. Sister Rose-Angeline (Beatrice Bouffard)

, 93, a daughter of the Charity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, died April 13, 2007, at Mount Sacred Heart Provincial House and Infirmary in Littleton, New Hampshire. Beatrice Bouffard was born in Newport on July 19, 1913, a daughter of Aristide Bouffard and Rose Vigneault. Sister Rose-Angeline professed her vows with her religious congregation on August 17, 1930. During her 77 years of religious life, Sister Rose-Angeline, as she has been known to most, served in various missions in Magog and Sherbrooke, Quebec; Colebrook, Whitefield, and Littleton, New Hampshire; Champlain and Morrisonville, New York; Middleboro, Massachusetts; and Newport. She dedicated much of her earlier religious life to education in schools, both as teacher and administrator. For many years Sister Rose-Angeline coordinated summer hospitality work for women seeking rest in a residential facility in Colebrook. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she cared for resident students from elementary school through high school. Throughout all her years of teaching she taught catechism in parishes in the Northeast Kingdom and in northern New Hampshire. In 1980 she retired from teaching and administration in schools to do full-time religious education in Middleboro. During those years she continued her longtime tradition of visiting sick people and consoling bereaved people. In 1993 she joined the community at Mount Sacred Heart and ministered in a number of ways to sick people - especially head-injured patients, prisoners, and the home-bound people. She was predeceased by her parents; by four sisters: Sister Helen, Sister Aimée, Sister Louise-Marie, all Daughters of the Charity, and Bernadette; and by two brothers, George and Eugene. She is survived by four brothers: Francis and his wife, Rita, Edmund and his wife, Pauline, Gerard and his wife, Frances, and Paul and his wife, Denise; by her sisters in the religious community; by two sisters-in-law, Sylvia and Irene; and by many cousins, nieces, and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated April 16 at Mount Sacred Heart. Spring interment will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery in Newport.
