, 75, beloved husband of Donna, died in Leesburg, Florida, on July 18, 2007, after a short illness. Mr. Warner was born March 17, 1932, in North Troy, a son of Gerald and Nora (Sargent) Warner. He graduated from North Troy High School and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War as a Navy airman. He served as a police officer for the Newport City Police Department from 1954 into the early 1960s. From 1954 to 1963 he was the full-time jailer for the Orleans County Sheriff's Department and worked for the department in various capacities until 1996. He was a certified law enforcement firearms instructor for the Sheriff's Department and the Newport City Police Department. He worked for the Vermont State Police as an auxiliary trooper with snowmobiles and boats. He served under five sheriffs, and served as chief deputy under Sheriff Lance Bowen. He served as the Derby constable and tax collector for many years. He was a certified concrete technologist through the University of Maryland. Besides being involved in law enforcement, he was an avid hunter and found time to be an active member of Lodge 65 of Free and Accepted Masons in Newport, American Legion Jay Peak Post 28, Newport Elks Lodge 2155, and the U.S. Sheriffs' Association. He married Donna Young in 1965. He is survived by his wife; by his daughters: Becky Diette and her husband, Paul, of Newport, Debra Harlamert and her husband, John, of Newport, Sheryl Westman and her husband, Raymond, of Ocala, Florida, Cathleen Smith of Stowe, Pennsylvania, Laurie Naramore and her husband, Royce, of Newport, and Melissa Warner of Lady Lake, Florida; by his son David Warner and his wife, Janet, of Canton, New York; by his 13 grandchildren; by a great-grandchild; and by his brother Stanley Warner and his wife, Joanne, of Derby. He was predeceased by his brother Douglas Warner. Funeral services were held July 27 in Newport with the Reverend Roger Fletcher officiating. Llewellyn Everett "Lew" Robinson

, 87, of Boise, Idaho, died peacefully surrounded by his family on July 20, 2007. Mr. Robinson was born in Barton on December 10, 1919, the eldest of six children of Charles and Rogean Robinson. He graduated from Barton High School in 1938. He joined the Army Air Corps at age 21 and spent most of his military service in the European Theater, flying 40 missions out of North Africa as a tail gunner on a B-26 bomber. He returned from the war and married Effie Perry of Coventry on June 17, 1944. Together they raised nine children. He was transferred to Gowen Field in Boise, where he was an instructor. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He worked as an electrical salesman in Boise; Ontario, Oregon; and Vancouver and Kennewick, Washington, and retired in 1991. He and his wife enjoyed traveling in their fifth wheel and spent many winters in Arizona, meeting up with their close friends from Boise and making many new friends, eventually settling back in Boise in 2002. He made a skydiving jump with his son Dennis at the age of 77. He successfully won his battle with esophageal cancer in 2004. He loved to relive his war stories and wrote his memoirs for his children, entitled "A Mother's Prayers," recounting his war days and his close encounters with death. He knew her prayers brought him home safely. In April 2005, the Warhawk Air Museum in Idaho interviewed him for the World War II National Archives in Washington, D.C. He is survived by his wife, Effie, of Boise; by children: Marilyn Marino and her husband, Gary, of Portland, Oregon, Marlene Lawrence and her husband, Bill, of Boise, Charles Robinson and his wife, Jane, of Nampa, Idaho, Graydon Robinson and his wife, Gail, of Kennewick, Rachael Elliott and her husband, Bo, of Woodland, Washington, Rodney Robinson and his wife, Vickie, Dennis Robinson and his wife, Sherri, of Montesano, Washington, Gary Robinson and his wife, Joyce, of Vancouver, and Jim Robinson and his wife, Tracy; by his brothers Graydon Robinson and his wife, Virginia, of North New Portland, Massachusetts, and Wayne Robinson and his wife, Lynn, of Augusta, Maine; by his sister Betty Valley of Barton; by 34 grandchildren; and by 15 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; by his brother Glendon; by his sister Charlotte; by his brother-in-law Paul Valley; and by two grandchildren, Jimmy Robinson and Angela Marino. A graveside service was held July 27 at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery Committal Shelter.

Ms. Powers was born January 9, 1965, in Newport, a daughter of Marjorie Meehan and the late Clifton Abbott Jr. She graduated from North Country Union High School. She loved her children very much, and she enjoyed karaoke. , 76, of Newport Center died peacefully July 24, 2007, in Newport. Mr. Kelly was born March 13, 1931, in Troy, New York, a son of James and Dorothy (Comeau) Kelly. He moved from Troy in 1971 to enjoy skiing with his wife. He was a self-employed electrician. He was employed by Newport Plastics, and he was a cook for six years for Tender Heart Ministries' Meals on Wheels program. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a former member of the Newport Elks Club, Newport Rotary Club, and Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Kelly, of Newport Center; by a son, Jim Kelly, of Newport Center; by a sister, Dorothy Purcell, and her husband, Bill, of Endwell, New York; by five nieces; and by one nephew. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 4, at St. Mary, Star of the Sea, Catholic Church in Newport. Interment will take place at a later date in Lake Road Cemetery in Newport Center. , 91, of Island Pond, formerly of Morgan, died July 16, 2007, in Westfield, Massachusetts. Mr. Hunter was born January 11, 1916, in Derby, a son of William and Eva (Talbot) Hunter. On June 8, 1941, he married Hazel Chase, who predeceased him. He graduated from Northeastern University in 1940 with a degree in chemical engineering. He was a metalurgist with the Westinghouse Electric Company for 31 years. He held memberships with the Derby United Church, the Springfield Sportsmen Club in Massachusetts, the National Rifle Association, the American Chemical Society, and the American Society of Metals. He was an avid rifleman and competed in tournaments. He lived in Springfield, Massachusetts, for 50 years before retiring to Morgan in 1982. He is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Wilson and her husband, Robert, of Somers, Connecticut, and Allison Kulaga and her husband, John, of Southwick, Massachusetts; by grandchildren: Michael and Kimberly Hunter and Jared, Kristen, and Lauren Kulaga; and by two great-grandchildren, Angelo Douglas and NikoTriantafyllore. He was predeceased by two sons, Arthur in 1948 and Douglas in 1999. Funeral services will be held at the Derby United Church on Saturday, August 4, at 1 p.m. with the Reverend Fred Barker and Reverend Carol Ann Barker officiating. , 88, of Newport died peacefully July 26, 2007, in Newport. Mr. Frizzell was born January 26, 1919, in Canaan, a son of Scott and Mary Frizzell. In 1938 he married Esther Mae Fellows, who predeceased him. In 1966 he married Marion Wells, who survives him. He was a supervisor for Ethan Allen Manufacturing in Orleans. He retired in 1985. He entered the United States Navy and served his country during World War II. He held memberships with the Orleans Federated Church, Orleans Masonic Lodge 106 of Orleans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and American Legion Post 23 of Orleans. He was a charter member of the East Charleston Fire Department from 1954 to 1994. He enjoyed making toys for children, walking, and going to the Lake Region Senior Center in Orleans. He is survived by his wife, Marion Frizzell, of Newport; by children: Scott Herbert Frizzell and his wife, Lorraine, of Claremont, New Hampshire, David Frizzell and his friend, Holly Mathers, of Lyndonville, Brenda Lepage of Lyndonville, Claudia Niles and her husband, Ray, of Hyde Park, and David Allen and his wife, Eileen, of Castleton; and by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, George Frizzell; and by a sister, Mary Day. , 49, of North Troy died peacefully at his home on July 17, 2007. Mr. Folgherait was born in Hartford, Connecticut, on October 15, 1957, a son of William R. and Priscilla M. (Gerrow) Folgherait. He lived in Connecticut the first half of his life, working as a mason at Simscroft-Echo Farms. The remainder of his life was spent in Vermont working on farms. He is survived by his son Ryan N. Folgherait of Lowell; by his daughter Amber L. Folgherait of Lowell; by his sister Donna Folgherait of West Simsbury, Connecticut; by his stepfather, Roger Viens, of North Troy; by his best friend, Orloff "Sonny" Watson, of North Troy; and by his loyal companion, his cat Lucky. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his eldest daughter, Rebekah R. Folgherait, who was killed by a drunk driver in 1997 at age 14. He was a kind, caring, respected individual who was loved and well liked by many relatives and friends. He didn't have a mean bone in his body and was always there to listen when someone had a problem. He had a way of making people feel better without judging anyone and was always finding the good in everyone. He loved watching TV Land and was a great fan of Walker Texas Ranger. He loved classic rock and solid gold oldies and danced around the house often. He loved to have fun and loved the ladies, but most of all he loved his children. The last words he wrote before his death were "kids were my good." He may now rest in peace with Rebekah. A memorial was set up in the privacy of his home for those who came to say farewell. For those who were not able to stop by, may his memories make them smile and fill their hearts with love. , 83, a former resident of Great Neck, New York, and longtime resident of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, and Craftsbury Common, died July 27, 2007. Mr. Bloch was born in Brooklyn, New York, on April 13, 1924, a son of Max and Mae (Epstein) Bloch. He was a structural engineer for the Port Authority of New York. He worked on the World Trade Center and was instrumental in designing various ports and bridges in the New York area. He was a member of Congregation Ahavath Chesed in Jacksonville, Florida. He was married to Florence (Warshaw) Bloch for 61 years. They purchased the former Harper farmhouse on King Farm Road in Craftsbury Common, and he enjoyed 43 years as a summer resident of his beloved Vermont. He loved his children and grandchildren and his perennial garden, enjoyed cooking Chinese food, reading scientific literature, and identifying and collecting edible mushrooms. Surviving him are his four children: Carol Bloch and her husband, Edward Schwartz, of Connecticut, Michael Bloch and his wife, Marie, of Colorado, Sally Marzouk and her husband, Ben, of New York, and Nancy Milholland and her husband, James, of Florida; and six grandchildren: Zachary, Jordan, Molly, Arlin, Elias, and Olivia. He was predeceased by his wife, Florence, who died May 31, 2005; and by his sister Estelle Crane, who died July 9, 2006. A memorial service was held at his home in Craftsbury Common on July 31. , 71, died July 24, 2007, surrounded by family and a special friend at his side. Mr. Barrett was born August 19, 1935, to Evelyn and Delbert Sr., who predeceased him. When he married Margaret Barrett, two sons were born, David, whose wife is Mary, and Randy. In the summer of 1970, he fell in love with and married Annie Barrett and added five children to his ever-growing family. He graduated from Lake Region Union High School and Vermont Technical College in Randolph. He was the maintenance supervisor for Greiner Bio-One of North America in North Carolina for the past five years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and fixing things. He enjoyed his motorcycle. He and his fiancée, Jeanette, enjoyed traveling and visiting family and friends up and down the East Coast. They enjoyed going to Panthers games and having friends come to their house to celebrate just about any occasion. He really loved his work and especially loved being able to come back home and see his family. He had a wonderful sense of humor and shall be greatly missed. He is survived by his parents, Randy and Pamela White, of Brownington; by his sister Jennifer Locke and her husband, Travis, of Brownington; by his fiancée, Jeanette Poirier, of Monroe; by his grandmother Jeannette Libby of Brownington; by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; by his shadow, Skyler; by his best friend, Blaine Elliott; and by many friends and co-workers. On April 16, 1937, she married Gordon Swett, who predeceased her on December 24, 1976. She lived all of her life in Holland. In her earlier years, she enjoyed reading and snowmobiling. , 69, died Sunday, July 15, 2007, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Mr. Marshall was born January 15, 1938, in Newton, Massachusetts, a son of Richard Marshall and Elizabeth Scofield Marshall. He graduated from Newport Junior High and High School. He enjoyed playing Newport Hawks football, basketball, and baseball with his buddies. He attended Norwich University and Champlain College. He married Carole Ann Mitchell in Boston in 1961. Together they had five children: April Nosacka, married to Mark Nosacka, Jonathan Marshall, married to Tricia Helfer, Albert-Dean Marshall, engaged to Julie Simpson, Samuel Marshall, married to Stephanie Artell Marshall, and Sarah Ann Newton, married to Brad Newton; and eight grandchildren: Peter John Marshall, Rachel Nosacka, Rebecca Nosacka, Sarah Nosacka, Ruth Nosacka, John-Paul Nosacka, John-Luke Nosacka, and Henry Newton. Mr. Marshall is also survived by his sisters: Alice Woodward and her husband, Frances, Marianne Baker and her husband, Stanley, Evelyn Budolf and her husband, Victor, and Roberta Raynor. He was predeceased by his brothers Albert and Samuel Marshall. , 99, of Westmore died peacefully August 2, 2007, in Lyndonville. Mrs. Lacross was born July 5, 1908, in Chateau Richer, Quebec, a daughter of Wilbrod and Alma (Cloutier) Lortie. On September 29, 1930, she married Homer Thomas LaCross, who predeceased her on January 3, 1998. She and her husband owned and operated LaCross cottages in Westmore from 1952 to 1986. She was a member of the Westmore Ladies Aid Society. She worked for a time at the Westmore town clerk's office. She was a very kind and loving person. Her many walks took her to visit elderly people in the area. She was predeceased by a brother, PhilipeLortie; and by a sister, Albertine Blanchard. Funeral services were held August 6 at St. Paul's Church in Barton with the Reverend Daniel Rupp and the Reverend Pat Forman celebrating a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment followed in St. Paul's Cemetery in Barton. , 38, of Newport died after losing her long and courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, July 29, 2007, surrounded by her loving family and friends. Mrs. Duby was born in St. Albans on March 17, 1969, the only daughter of Albert Houle and Nancy Gaudreau, by whom she is survived. On June 10 she became the beloved wife of Buckley Duby, who survives her, along with her children. As a dedicated mother she served as a member of the North Country Union Junior High School Falcons football team advisory board and enthusiastically coached the basketball cheerleading team for several seasons. She enjoyed expressing herself as a seamstress, home decorator, and craftswoman. During her years as a service coordinator with the developmental services of Northeast Kingdom Human Services, her clients knew her for her compassion and dedication. Her love of family was evident as the devoted mother of Chelsea Rich, Ashley Rich, Tanis Rich, and Gage Gagner, all of Newport. As a loving sister she leaves years of fun and memories with Tony Houle of South Carolina, Andy Houle and his partner, Martin Miles, of Burlington, Allan Houle of Burlington, and Art Houle and his fiancée, Nicky Medor, of Burlington. Her survivors also include Marshall Rich and his fiancée, Vicki Royer, of Newport; mother-in-law, Leslie Burt, of Derby; sister-in-law KrystalDuby of Newport; brother-in-law R.J. , 86, of Derby Line died peacefully July 30, 2007, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Downing was born June 10, 1921, in Derby Line, a son of James and Jeannette (Gilmore) Downing. On June 28, 1947, he married Harriet Darby, who survives him. He was employed at Butterfields Union Twist for five years. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served in the South Pacific on a Destroyer escort, the USS Register. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1946. He was employed by Caswell & O'Rourke in 1947 where he became a partner. He worked there for 36 years, retiring in 1983. He held memberships with the American Legion and St. Edward's Catholic Church. He was treasurer for St. Edward's Cemetery for 37 years. He was a trustee of the village of Derby Line for 17 years. He and the late Albert Fregeau, mayor of Rock Island, Quebec, were instrumental in having a section of Interstate 91 named after President John F. Kennedy. He was a stamp collector, and he enjoyed flower gardening. He is survived by his wife, Harriet Downing, of Derby Line; by children: Michael Downing and his wife, Celeste, of Derby Line, Elizabeth Urie and her husband, Bruce, of Craftsbury, Mary Muir and her husband, Bruce, of Derby Line, and Judith Coy and her husband, Kevin, of Barton; by grandchildren: Caitlin Downing, Sarah Nusbaum and her husband, Matt, Amanda, Timothy and Heather Urie, Analesa and Eilish Muir, Andrew Coy and his wife, Darcie, and Daniel, Samuel and Rachel Coy; by three great-grandchildren: Elias, Emma, and Kayleigh Coy; and by several nieces and nephews. , 95, a longtime resident of Craftsbury, died at Greensboro Nursing Home on Friday, August 10, 2007. Mrs. Spaulding was born in Manchester, New Hampshire, on April 28, 1912, the daughter of David and Cora (Allen) Wylie. She was a graduate of Craftsbury Academy and attended a business college in Northhampton, Massachusetts. On April 16, 1932, she married Gerald K. Spaulding at a family home in Craftsbury. Mr. Spaulding died April 16, 1995. For many years the Spauldings made their home in both St. Johnsbury and Craftsbury Common. In the late 1950s they built a camp where they enjoyed their summers. She had been employed as a telephone operator in the Craftsbury telephone office and at St. Johnsbury Trucking. After the death of her husband, she moved to Lauredon Apartments in Greensboro and later was a resident of Craftsbury Community Care Center until a few days prior to her death. She was a very active person throughout her life. In 1941 she got her pilot's license. She loved horse back riding, and she enjoyed family fishing trips and grilling the catch of the day beside the brook. As a youngster she spent many happy hours at her uncle's camp on Little Hosmer where Professor Coburn taught her and others how to swim. Later in life, the coast of Maine and the Gaspe Peninsula were favorite vacation destinations. She was a talented and creative seamstress and made a lot of her own clothes; she also sewed for her family. She loved entertaining and family gatherings at camp. She was an avid reader and enjoyed keeping up with current events and world issues. She was a member of the United Church of Craftsbury and the Search Light Club, and she was a past worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star. Survivors include a daughter, Roberta Alexander, and her husband, Robert, of Craftsbury Common; a son, Gerald "Gerry" Spaulding Jr. of Hardwick; four grandchildren: Peter Alexander, John Alexander, Jessica Spaulding, and Travis Spaulding; and her beloved cat Sir. She was expecting a great-grandchild in late January 2008. She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald "Jerry" Spaulding. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 18, at 11 a.m. at the United Church of Craftsbury in Craftsbury Common with Pastor Alan Parker officiating. , 77, a longtime Swanton resident and more recently of Island Pond, died peacefully Sunday morning, August 5, 2007, in Evansville on the grounds of the Clan of the Hawk, where he had spent many hours in a place that he loved so much. Born in St. George on September 30, 1929, Mr. Robtoy was a son of the late Fred and Alice (Robtoy) Robtoy. He was employed for 23 years with the former Swanton Packing Company. Frank Reed was his employer and good friend, and continued, along with his wife, Sandy, to visit him even after his retirement. He enjoyed the friendship of his many friends at Sunrise Manor in Island Pond and his extended family from the Clan of the Hawk, especially Chief Lone Cloud (Ralph Swett) with whom he spent many hours. He is survived by his wife, Hilda, of 56 years; by two daughters, Bernadette Paola of West Virginia and Eunice Ann Konon of Long Island, New York; by two sons, Bernard E. Robtoy of Swanton and Adrian Robtoy of St. Albans; by nine grandchildren: Sean "Buddy" Robtoy and his girlfriend, Amber, of St. Albans, Adrian II "Pete" of St. Albans, Jordan of Highgate, Sonya of Swanton, Shana of Williston, Tiffany Cratty and her husband, Justin, of New York, Michael Gagne of Long Island, Heather Robtoy of Burlington, and Felecia Burleson of California; by four sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law: Janet and Harold Osmer of Windsor, Donna Buchanon of Laconia, New Hampshire, Norma and Forbes Louverin of Torrington, Connecticut, and Alberta Sweet of East Topsham; by many nieces, nephews, and cousins; by one very faithful friend, Carol Irons; and by his many friends from the Clan of the Hawk. He was predeceased by three children: his infant daughter Bernetta Ann, Sergeant Penelope Robtoy Pelletier, and Christopher Sweet Robtoy; by six sisters and brothers-in-law: Laura and Leo Kenyon, Agnes and Herbert Button, Yvonne and Arthur Laplante, Bernice and William Braley, Barbara and William Root, Evelyn Robtoy, and Walter Sweet. A celebration of Mr. Robtoy's life was held August 9 at the Memorial United Methodist Church at Swanton Village. The Reverend Marcheta Townsend officiated. Interment followed in the Robtoy family lot in Riverside Cemetery. , 74, of Westmore died surrounded by her family at Fletcher Allen Heath Care in Burlington on Friday, August 10, 2007. Mrs. Rash was born November 13, 1932, (on a Friday, as she liked to say) in Springfield to Chester A. Eastman and Ruth (Hoisington) Eastman. Her husband of 55 years, Morris Rash, predeceased her in April 2005. Known primarily as Tink, Mom, or Nana, she spent her life devoted to her family. She loved reading, doing crossword puzzles, watching movies, playing cribbage, listening to music, and spending time with her parakeet Shelby. She treasured her quiet moments in her home that she made. She is survived by her sisters: Joyce Beebe of Springfield, Evelyn Benware of Chester, and Dolly Chandler of California; by her children: Kathy Dyke of Freeport, Maine, Valerie Perkins of Westmore, Deborah March of Orleans, Terry Goss of Binghamton, New York, Larry Rash of Westmore, and Andrew Rash of Colchester; by her grandchildren: Kerry Hammond, Kimberly Wood, Kristy Stoddard, Michael "Dyke" Phair, Erin Perkins, Lori Perkins, Chad Perkins, Nathan Goss, Timothy Goss, Adam March, Meghann March, Jennifer Rash, Crystal Crown, and Joey Rene; by 16 great-grandchildren; and by several cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband; by her brother Raymond Eastman; and by her sister Gloria Foster. James "Jim" Warren Nelson

died August 5, 2007, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. Mr. Nelson was the first baby born in Boston, Massachusetts, on January 1, 1933, at 12:01 a.m. He enjoyed family and holiday gatherings. He loved cooking and baking from scratch, building model boats and airplanes, and fishing. He would never pass up a good conversation. He is survived by his sons Sidney Nelson of Troy and Steve Nelson of Unionville, Connecticut; and by his grandchildren: Brent and Kaylee Nelson of Island Pond and Shane Nelson of Massachusetts. He was predeceased by his former wife, Nancy H. Nelson; by his mother and father; and by his only brother, Paul Nelson, of Connecticut. He will be sadly missed, mostly by grandchildren, family, and friends. Funeral services were held August 14 at Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Newport with the Reverend Philip Branon officiating.
