, 81, of Norwich died Thursday, April 19, 2007, at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire. Mr. Stetson was born October 17, 1925, in New London, New Hampshire, a son of Clarence and Stella (Burnor) Stetson. He graduated from high school in Andover, New Hampshire, in 1943 and then served aboard the U.S.S. Weeden DE797. He worked for a time at Armour Meat Packing in St. Petersburg, Florida, before becoming a truck driver for Gay's Trucking and then Holmes Transportation for 33 years. He married Jeannie Allaire, who died in 1948. He then married Doris Facto. Their marriage ended in divorce. He later married Martha Edmunds. He was a member and trustee of Retired Teamsters Local 597 of Barre and American Legion Post 80 of Island Pond. He was a trustee of the Beaver Meadow Chapel in Norwich. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to camp in Newark, reading, doing search-a-word puzzles, and traveling. He also enjoyed his pets over the years. He was predeceased by his parents; and by a brother, Richard Stetson, of Andover. He is survived by his wife, Martha, of Norwich; by a daughter, Doris LaMontange, of Thetford; by a brother, Ralph, and his wife, Winnie, of Andover; by a sister-in-law, Grace, of Andover; by a brother-in-law, Arden Edmunds Jr., and his wife, Jackie, of West Braintree; and by several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Beaver Meadow Chapel with burial in Hillside Cemetery in Norwich. , 18, of Lowell died suddenly on April 27, 2007. Mr. Pion was born March 31, 1989, in Lowell, a beloved son of Norman and Melissa (Willis) Pion. He was a senior at North Country Union High School. He was a new member of the Lowell Fire Department and the Hazen Notch Snowmobile Club. He loved his myspace.com account. His motto was, "I live my life day by day. That's all that matters!" He enjoyed building trades classes at his high school. He enjoyed snowmobiling, four-wheeling, hanging with friends, hunting, fishing, and partying a little, too. He enjoyed country and rock music, watching action movies, and watching Trick My Truck and Pimp My Ride on television. He is survived by his parents, Norman and Melissa Pion, of Lowell; by two brothers, Marc and Corey Pion; by his sister Lisa Pion; by his paternal grandmother, Hilda Pion, of Lowell; by his maternal grandmother, Mary Jane Willis, of Lowell; and by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins and countless friends who loved him very much. He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather Sam Pion; and by his maternal grandfather, Tip Willis. , 67, of Bristol, Connecticut, died Thursday, April 26, 2007, at Bristol Hospital. Mr. Lafoe was widowed after the love of his life for 43 years, Beverly (Garfield) Lafoe, died. He was born in Irasburg on March 21, 1940, was a son of the late Forrest Valentine Lafoe and Shirley Alberta (Chalifoux) Lafoe. He lived in Irasburg before moving to Bristol 40 years ago. He worked as a chicken farmer and a carpenter and worked for Arthur Industries for 12 years. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan, and when he sang, you knew he was happy. He is survived by two sons, Jeffery Lafoe of Bristol and Albert Blouin of Torrington, Connecticut; by two daughters, Rose Laughlin of Torrington and Donna Blouin of Bristol; by six grandchildren; by four great-grandchildren; and by two nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, ForrestineKell. Funeral services and burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family. , 60, of Island Pond died April 26, 2007, at her home. Ms. Johnson was born March 9, 1947, in Bakersfield to Arnold Robert Johnson and Olive Josephine King. She had nine siblings: Emily Johnson, Margaret Coyle, Arnold Johnson, Theodore Johnson, Michael Johnson, Charlie Johnson, Mark Johnson, Martha Johnson, and David Johnson. Many knew her as the postmaster of Beebe Plain, where she served her community for 22 years. She served her country as a sergeant in the United States Air Force from 1965 to 1969. She was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a Legionnaire. She was a regular blood donor for the American Red Cross. She was a self-taught artist, well-known for her watercolor portraits. She was gifted with embroidery, quilting, and beading. She was a writer and a philosopher, and once said, "Why is it more important to carry a light load many times than a heavy load once? Because it is more important to build strength than to display it." She was an extremely dedicated single parent, giving her daughter things that she never had for herself. Her daughter Neweve Marie Johnson-Lively lives in Richmond. Her friends and family are invited to remember and celebrate her life from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, at the Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Funeral Home on Darling Hill Road in Newport. Her wishes were to be cremated without a funeral service. She lived a rich life, full of courage and struggle, exemplifying generosity, honesty, and integrity to all who knew her. , 92, of Walden, formerly of Danville, died Saturday, April 28, 2007, at the Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin. Mrs. Greaves was born September 22, 1914, in Barre, a daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Lillie) Milne. She graduated from Spaulding High School in 1932. On September 16, 1944, she married Gerald Courtney Greaves Sr. in Montpelier. In her earlier years she was employed as domestic help for Clifton Heaton. She later worked for the Montpelier Savings Bank and was a nurse's aide at the Greensboro Nursing Home. She was a member of the Danville United Methodist Church, the West Danville United Methodist Women's Group, the Danville Women's Club, and the Walden Home Dem. She enjoyed reading, knitting, and crocheting. Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth "Betty" Larrabee of Walden and Cynthia Buska of Plainfield; daughter-in-law Hazel Greaves of Walden; brother Richard Milne of Cherry Hill, New Jersey; sister Virginia Anderson of Barre; sister-in-law Eleanor Milne of Barre; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald Greaves Sr., in 1985; by her daughter Linda Irene Greaves in 2002; by stepson Gerald Greaves Jr.; and by brother Francis Milne. To honor her request, there will be no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 6, at 2 p.m. in the West Danville United Methodist Church with Jane Larrabee officiating. , 48, of Randolph, formerly of Newport Center, died suddenly May 2, 2007, in Randolph. Mrs. Rumery was born November 17, 1958, in Magog, Quebec, a daughter of Gilbert and Barbara (Hyatt) Woodard. On May 21, 1983, she married Richard Rumery, who survives her. She was a graduate of Alexander Galt High School in Lennoxville, Quebec. She held membership with the United Church of Newport. She enjoyed her craft business in her home and on East Main Street in Newport where she made bells and painted sap buckets. She worked at the former Ames department store in Derby, and she was a secretary for the United Church of Newport for many years. She was a licensed nurse's aide at the Derby Green nursing home. More recently she worked at McDonald's in Randolph. She is survived by her husband, Richard Rumery, of Newport Center; by her son Aaron Rumery of Newport Center; by her brothers David Woodard and his wife, Catherine Planouf, and Gerard Woodard and his wife, Sherry Squires; and by a sister, Frances, and her friend, William Johnson. Graveside services will be held at the Derby Line Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9, with the Reverend Martha Peck officiating. Cecil Benjamin "Bud" Shepard Jr.

, 71, of Newport died suddenly April 14, 2007, in Superior, Colorado. Mr. Shepard was born September 22, 1935, in Slater, Missouri, a son of Cecil and Dorothy (Cramer) Shepard. On July 27, 1963, he married Larissa Martysz, who survives him. He was a captain in the United States Army Reserve as an artillery officer and was honorably discharged in 1958. He received a bachelor of science from the University of Missouri in 1958 and he attended Wayne State University, the University of California at Irvine, and the California Institute of Technology. He was an electrical engineer in research and development, having been employed by Space Research Corporation from 1969 to 1980. He retired as a consultant to Norton Diamond Film in Northboro, Massachusetts. He was a member of the United Church of Newport and served on the North Country Hospital Board of Directors and with the Defense Research Projects Agency. His greatest interests were his family, especially his grandchildren. He did not like idleness and was constantly designing and planning, whether it was for his professional or personal needs. His proudest project was the design and construction of his home on Robin Hill. In addition to designing and managing the construction, he did all the wiring and plumbing, and worked with the general contractors to complete the structure, inside and out. He was a 100 percent hands-on man. Repairmen were a rarity in his home. He was instrumental in designing and assisting with the construction of his parents' home in Missouri. When his son and daughter purchased homes, he was there to finish the basement, build a deck, install and repair appliances, insulate basements and garages, and design and build a children's playhouse and an elaborate bookcase for his granddaughter in the shape of a huge doll house. When in California, his greatest passion was his rose garden and watching his cycads grow. During his career he was the recipient of more than a dozen patents for designs relating to plasma deposition of diamond film. He is survived by his wife, Larissa Shepard, of Newport; by his daughter Cecily Breit and her husband, Don, of Superior; by his son Mark Nicholas Shepard of Superior; by three grandchildren: Emma Delaney Breit, Aleksandr Stephen Breit, and Haley Maria Breit; and by his sister Fay Danahy of Garland, Texas. He was predeceased by his daughter Maria Cecelia Shepard; and by his son Captain Stephen Erik Shepard. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, at the United Church of Newport with the Reverend Joy Toll-Chandler and the Reverend Martha Peck officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeside Cemetery in Island Pond. , 35, of Barton died peacefully May 5, 2007, in Newport with his loving wife by his side. Mr. Potter was born August 11, 1971, in Berlin, a son of Roger Potter and Diane (Stuart) Olsen. On July 26, 2002, he married Traci Merriam, who survives him. In 1989 he entered the United States Army. He was a guard for the Vermont Department of Corrections. He was an active member of the Vermont National Guard. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he enjoyed the outdoors in general with his friends, and more importantly, teaching his children to love the outdoors and be a good sportsman. He loved his wife and children and enjoyed his many friends from work and the Guard. He is surivved by his wife, Traci Potter, of Barton; by his children: Ryan M. Hoadley, Darin R. Potter, James H. Potter, and Zachary L. Hoadley, all of Barton, Sasha L. Potter and Rodney C. Potter of Idaho, and Eric J. Merriam of Morrisville; by his parents: Roger and Mary Potter of Barton and Diane and Lonnie Olsen of Idaho; by his parents-in-law, Albert and Millie Merriam, of Morrisville; by his sisters: Melinda King and her husband, Adam, of Northfield, Dawn Leavitt and her husband, Dorian, of Lowell, Angela Cameron and her husband, Rick, of Casa Grande, Arizonia, and Jessica Caldwell and her husband, Scott, of North Wolcott; and by many nieces and nephews. , psychologist and educator, died at age 92 at Bel-Aire Quality Care Nursing Center in Newport on April 28, 2007. Mr. Harris was born in Elkhart, Indiana, on June 28, 1914, the eldest son of Ward Manning Harris and Lillian (Benner) Harris. Following high school graduation from Elkhart, he attended DePauw University. He received his associate of business degree from DePauw with high distinction as a Rector Scholar in 1935. On July 17, 1935, after their graduation from DePauw, he married Elizabeth Rita Saltmarsh. He earned a master of arts degree in 1937 and a doctorate degree in 1941 from the University of Minnesota. He served as a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. During his professional career, he was affiliated with the Minnesota Training School for Boys from 1936 to 1938 and the Institute for Child Welfare at the University of Minnesota from 1939 to 1959, serving as its director from 1954 to 1959. In 1959 he became a professor of psychology at Pennsylvania State University. He was chairman of the psychology department from 1962 to 1967. During 1968 and 1969, he was a Fulbright visiting professor at Ochanomizu University in Tokyo, Japan. He retired as professor emeritus in 1979. He was best known for his text, Children's Drawings as Measures of Intellectual Maturity (Goodenough-Harris Draw-a-Man Test). He was editor of three professional journals and published many papers on children's development and education. He served on three Minnesota governors' committees and five national boards of professional organizations relating to child education and welfare. He belonged to Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Xi, and numerous other organizations. In addition to his loving wife of 71 years, he is survived by his four children and their spouses: Ruthann Ovenshire, James and Kaaren Harris, David and Pamela Harris, and Geoffrey and Shirley Harris; by six grandchildren: Susan, David, Benjamin, Wendy, Emily, and Leanne; by two great-grandchildren, Anneke and Tevis; by Marianne van Iterson of the Netherlands, who became a valued family member after living with the Harrises during a student exchange in 1958 and 1959 and her family; by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews; and by the many students he has mentored through the years. He was predeceased by his son-in-law Lee Ovenshire; by his brother Van; and by his sister Marjorie H. Smith. His family remembers his deep interest in politics and love of the outdoors, with fond memories of family canoe camping trips and summers spent at their cabins on East Twin Lake, Minnesota, and later on Lake Clear, Ontario. Mr. Harris had recently moved to Vermont to be near his son Geoffrey.

, 60, of Eastham, Massachusetts, formerly a resident of the NortheastKingom, died at Cape Cod Hospital in Massachusetts on Sunday, April 29, 2007. Mr. Feeney was born August 25, 1946, in Boston, Massachusetts, and grew up in Dorchester, Hingham, Westborough, and Wellesley, Massachusetts, graduating from Wellesley High School in 1964. He received his bachelor of arts in history in 1969 and his master of education in 1975 from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. After teaching high school in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at the School Without Walls and at North Country Union High School in Newport, he joined the Peace Corps and served in Malacca, Malaysia, with a focus on public health education. His international career included aid-related projects for public health and public health education in Nepal, Tanzania, and Haiti. He was fluent in the Malay language. He spent time in Homer, Alaska, with a king-crab cannery operation. More recently, he ran a landscaping business on Cape Cod, managed operations for a recycling business south of Boston, and worked in marketing for a computer software firm in the Washington, D.C., area. He was an adventurous traveler, a rugged hiker and cross-country skier, a voracious reader, and a captivating storyteller. He ran the Boston Marathon and hiked the Long Trail from the Massachusetts-Vermont border to the Canadian border. He was an avid chess player (sometimes while blindfolded) who taught the game's strategy to many others, including via chess clinics. In his later years, he enjoyed sailing with the Nauset Sea Scouts, including cruises to Maine and with the Tall Ships in Boston and New York. He was a member of the Orleans-Eastham Elks Club in Massachusetts. He is survived by his mother, Lillian Pearl Feeney; by his sisters: Maureen Holmes, Joanne Petersen, and Cheryl Feeney; by his brother Jim Feeney; by sister-in-law Kyoko Feeney; by his son FareshOnn; by his companion, Elizabeth Rowley; and by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Peter John Feeney. He was a loyal friend and leaves many friends on Cape Cod, in the Boston area, around New England, in the United States, and in the aforementioned foreign countries. , 88, of Lyndonville died peacefully May 3, 2007, surrounded by her loving family, at Bel-Aire Quality Care Nursing Center in Newport. Mrs. Bishop was born May 14, 1918, in Island Pond to Miles F. Coe and Yvonne Paradis Coe. She was two years old when her mother died. She was raised by her father and stepmother, Vivian Coe, in Island Pond and attended school there. She married Lawrence Kilpatrick in Island Pond in 1938. To this union were born two children, Miles R. "Mike" Kilpatrick and Gloria "Sue" Kilpatrick Hancock. Her husband, Lawrence, predeceased her in 1942. She married Howard Bishop in 1949 in Lyndonville. To this union were born two sons, Allan H. Bishop and Timothy D. Bishop.Her husband, Howard, predeceased her in 1997. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She always loved vegetable and flower gardening. She was an outstanding Scrabble player to the very end. She was an excellent cook and loved to have large family dinners for special occasions. She is survived by her children: Miles Kilpatrick and his wife, Patricia, of Newport, Gloria Hancock and her husband, Rodney, of Coventry, Allan Bishop and his wife, Janet, of Newport, and Timothy Bishop and his wife, Marilyn, of Lyndonville; by grandchildren: Kimberly Dionne and her husband, Jim, Graydon Kilpatrick and his wife, Jessica, Randy Hancock and his wife, Shari, Mary Bishop and her friend, MichaelDanoski, Gregory Bishop, Matthew Bishop and his wife, Annie, and Abel and Brittany Bishop; by great-grandchildren: Judah, Micah, Sara, and Mason; by her stepsister Wanita McRae and her husband, Donald; and by several nieces and nephews. , 95, of Newport died peacefully May 4, 2007, in Newport with her family at her side. Mrs. Alix was born October 11, 1911, inYamaska, Quebec, a daughter of Edmund and Rosilda (Lamere) Cardin. On May 30, 1931, she married Antonio Alix, who predeceased her on December 20, 1987. She was a member of St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Newport. She held membership with the Daughters of Isabella and the Ladies of Anne. She organized bus trips to go on pilgrimages to visit St. Anne DeBeaupre in Quebec City. She attended Mass every morning and evening.She received her driver's license in her sixties. She and her husband lived in Newport Center, where they owned and operated a dairy farm for many years. She is survived by her children: Laurier Alix and his wife, Shirley, of The Villages, Florida, Pauline Dagesse of Newport, GerardAlix and his friend, Jody, of Lady Lake, Florida, and Newport Center, and FernandAlix of Littleton, New Hampshire; by eight grandchildren; by 14 great-grandchildren; by a brother, Raoul Cardin, of Cheyenne, Wyoming; by a sister, Archange Lefebvre, of Rochester, New Hampshire; and by several nieces and nephews. , 53 of East Hardwick died unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 8, 2007, at Copley Hospital in Morrisville. Mr. Silver was born November 30, 1953, in Enfield, New Hampshire, a son of the late Stewart and Ila (Thompson) Silver. He attended Hardwick public schools and graduated from Hazen Union in 1972. On August 13, 1976, he entered the U.S. Army. He served his country in Korea, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Rhode Island. He was honorably discharged on July 22, 1982. In September 1990, he married Ruth Marie (Gates) Ferland in Hardwick. In his earlier years he was employed by the town of Hardwick on its road crew. He worked for the Gary Sweeper Service in Morrisville, and for more than 15 years he was employed by Dennis Demers Trucking in East Hardwick. For the last five years he owned and operated G.S. Trucking in East Hardwick, transporting logs and wood products. He was a member of American Legion Post 7 of Hardwick. He will be remembered as a kind and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who was always willing to help everyone. He also enjoyed tinkering. Survivors include his wife of 16 years, Ruth, of East Hardwick; four daughters: Michelle Silver-Hall and her husband, Ronald, of Greensboro Bend, Danielle Silver of Hardwick, Maranda Mead and her husband, Joseph, of Belchertown, Massachusetts, and Amber Thompson of Hardwick; six stepchildren: Lori Demers and her husband, Dennis, and Louis Ferland, all of East Hardwick, Donna Larocque and her husband, Chris, and Steven Ferland and his wife, Lisa, all of Hardwick, Catherine Richard and her husband, Lawrence, of Walden, and Clifford Ferland and his wife, Dawn, of Brownington; two sisters, Jacqueline Davison and her husband, Kelly, of Hardwick and Patricia Page of New Hampshire; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Louis and Sylvia Gates of East Hardwick, and Catherine Donaghy and Rita and Steve Pasquariello, all of Winterhaven, Florida; 20 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and two more on the way; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service was held May 14 at the Northern Vermont Funeral Home with Pastor Moses Yoder of the Hardwick Bible Baptist Church officiating. , 84, of Brownington died peacefully on May 9, 2007, at his home. Mr. Robillard was born January 9, 1923, in St. Johnsbury, a son of Albert and Clara (Choiniere) Robillard. On June 25, 1949, he married Janine Houston, who survives him. He spent over 70 years farming on his own, with his folks, and especially with his wife on their own farm. He had a milk route, picking up canned milk and delivering to the Hood and Whiting Creamery. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, and fishing whenever he could. He liked his farm animals and his house pets very much. He particularly liked family gatherings with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed working his team of oxen. The title of "jack of all trades" best describes his overall ablilities of being self-sufficient. He was a past member of the Newport Elks Club. He is survived by his wife, Janine Robillard, of Brownington; by his daughter Jane Robillard of Newport; by grandchildren: Gabriel Brunelle ofBrownington, Adam Brunelle and his companion, Debbie Burdick, of Brownington, and Heather Lucas and her friend, Jay Miskimen, of North Troy; and by great-grandchildren: Bethany Lucas, KierraMiskimen,C.J. Miskimen, and Erin Brunelle. He was predeceased by a son, Rene Robillard, on May 17, 1974; by a daughter, Janet Brunelle, on June 22, 2006; by a brother, Emmanuel Robillard; and by sisters: Claudia Johnson, Flora Lamarche, and Rolande Moreau. Funeral services were held May 11 at the Brownington Center Church with Pastor George Lawson officiating. Interment followed at the Brownington Center Cemetery. , 45, of Island Pond died suddenly Monday, May 7, 2007, in Newport. Mr. O'Gorman was born June 22, 1961, in Newport, a son of Muriel (Maw) and the late Nicholas O'Gorman. He graduated from North Country Union High School in 1979. After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard; he served from 1979 to 1981. He later received an associate's degree in human services from the Community College of Vermont. He was employed by the Vermont Department of Corrections for eight years at the Northeast Regional Correctional Facility in Newport where he was a corrections officer. He was a former member of the Brighton Fire Department and EMT Services and the Newark Fire Department, a Boy Scout leader, and a life guard. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, and golfing. He is survived by his sons Michael O'Gorman of Massachusetts and Quincy Hackett of Island Pond; by his mother, Muriel O'Gorman; by his sister Catherine Kinney and her husband, Alson, of Island Pond; by his brother James O'Gorman and his wife, Christine, of Rutland; by his nephew Austin O'Gorman; by his niece Kalli Kinney of Island Pond; by his aunt Bertha O'Gorman of Island Pond; by his uncle William H. Wells of Florida; and by his companion, Becky Hackett, of Island Pond. He was predeceased by his father, Nicholas O'Gorman; and by a niece, Taini Mae Kinney. , 99, died on May 10, 2007, at the Our House Residential Home in Rutland. Mrs. Leslie was surrounded by the love of caregivers and her family. She was born May 17, 1907, in Newport Center, daughter of Edward and Blanche Buck. She married Wilfred Leslie on December 28, 1931. They spent a long and happy life together. Mr. Leslie died in June 2001. She graduated from West Charleston High School in 1924 as salutatorian. She attended a one-year teaching preparatory course at Derby Academy and started her teaching career at age 19. She drove a team of horses and later a Model T to her early teaching assignments. She continued her education throughout her career and graduated from Lyndon State College with her bachelor's degree. Her teaching career spanned 40-plus years. She taught all grades from one to eight. She taught in Charleston and Westmore and at Orleans graded and junior high schools. She was principal in Irasburg and retired as principal of Newport City graded schools in 1972. She had a lifetime interest in music. She often taught music in her classroom and organized and played piano for productions in the small schools when music education did not exist. During high school, she played for the silent movies in West Charleston. She played the reed organ for the West Charleston Baptist Church. She directed the junior choir in the Orleans Federated Church and sang in the adult choir. She played the organ at the Orleans church from 1968 until she was in her early nineties. She was a member of the Vermont Retired Teachers' Association, the Orleans Federated Church, and the Orleans Book and Thimble Club. She is survived by her daughter Jean Childers and her husband, Eugene, of Brandon; by her grandsons, Christopher Childers of Ellicott City, Maryland, and Nathan Childers of New York, New York; by her brother Maurice Buck of Jaffrey, New Hampshire; and by nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred Leslie; and by her sister Esther Hamilton. A funeral service was held at the Orleans Federated Church May 14. James Walter Fitzpatrick

, 85, of Island Pond died peacefully May 9, 2007, at the St. Johnsbury Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Fitzpatrick was born October 9, 1921, in Groveton, New Hampshire, a son of Walter James and Myra (Connely) Fitzpatrick. He served his country during World War II and was assigned to the 100th U.S. Army Ranger Division. He was wounded in action. On January 25, 1947, he married Marjorie Mooney, who predeceased him on July 20, 1998. He was a handyman, logging in the Island Pond area for many years, and was employed at the International Paper Mill in Corinth, New York. He was a member of American Legion Post 80, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 798, and the Brighton Baptist Church. He enjoyed drawing, fishing, playing the spoons, imitating Popeye, reading poetry, and writing, but most of all he loved his family - Cindy, John, Thelma, and James Rooney. He is survived by his great-niece Cindy Rooney and her husband, John, of Island Pond; by his sister Edith Carleton of Corinth; by very special nieces Betty Counter and Joy Duford; and by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters: Katherine Fisk, Mimi Schrooder, Enda Lucia, Katherine Harris, Ethel Fayette, and Nellie Rexford. Funeral services were held May 15 at the Brighton Baptist Church with Pastor Roland Barney officiating. Interment followed at Lakeside Cemetery in Island Pond with full military honors. Richard Alan Berry

, 53, died April 30, 2007, at his home in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Mr. Berry was born September 26, 1953, in Queens, New York. The Berry family moved to Fanwood, New Jersey, where he attended Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School. His love for sports was apparent, and by the time he had graduated from high school in 1972, he had earned letters in football and baseball. He was highly creative and artistic, as evidenced by the many paintings, sketches, flyers, costumes, and various media works he produced over the course of his life. After high school, he enlisted in the Navy and served aboard the USS Independence. Later he attended Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, where he received both his bachelor's and master's degrees. He counseled troubled youths at the Tidewater Detention Home for a number of years, prior to accepting a position teaching special needs students at Tallwood High School in Virginia Beach. His quiet passion for helping young people was further demonstrated in his subsequent coaching position with Tallwood junior varsity football, which yielded several championships through the years. His most recent teaching position was teaching special needs students at Kellam High School in Virginia Beach. Along with his services as a teacher and mentor to hundreds of kids over his career, he is remembered for his love of cars, his dogs, his New York Giants, his place in Gloucester, Virginia, and especially his beloved wife and family. He is survived by his wife, Beth; by a son, Evan, of Richmond, Virginia; by a daughter, Tara, of Atlanta, Georgia; by his mother, Jean, of Fanwood, New Jersey; by sisters: Lynn Berry of Morgan, Barbara Pastrof of Cranford, New Jersey, and Joanne Sprague of Scotch Plains, New Jersey; by a brother, James Berry, of Jackson, New Jersey; by his mother-in-law, Mary Ellen Van Hout; and by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Richard, in 2001. He will be remembered by those who loved him as a compassionate, caring man who gave of himself for others and touched many lives. A celebration of Mr. Berry's life was held May 7 at Kellam High School.
