....show - Vernice M. Middleton of Victoria, B.C. died on May 4, 2007. She was born in Barnston Quebec on January 7, 1920. Beloved wife of Edward (Ted) Middleton who died in 1989.. Loving daughter of the late John and Mary Ashman. She was also predeceased by eleven of her thirteen brothers and sisters. Vernice was raised in the Way's Mills area and worked for a brief time in Sherbrooke. Ted and Vernice were united in marriage on August 11, 1951 at the Anglican Church in Stanstead. Vernice was an active member of the Beebe Advent Christian Church and a long time member of the Canadian Legion Auxiliary. She was often involved in many other community activities in the Stanstead area. She moved to Victoria B.C. in 1990 where she was involved with Silver Threads and a local Old Age Pensioners Group. Cherished mother of: Penny ( Donald Wrigley), Fuquay Varina N.C., Heather McCallum Victoria B.C., and Dianne ( Rick Saunders), of Victoria B.C.. Verice will also be sadly missed by her grandchildren: Stephen Wrigley of California City, C.A., David Wrigley of Centerville V.A., Sheena and Gaeme McCallum of Victoria B.C.: as well as her sister Elsie Townsend of Montreal and Guy Ashman of Stanstead (Beebe), many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She kept her wonderful sense of humour right to the end. Her smile, youthful outlook on life, and sarcastic wit will be so dearly missed by her very many friends who knew and loved her. Predeceased by her husband, Desmond Connor of 38 years. Loving mother of Daniel (Tina Jensen), Kathleen (Jan Anemaet), Alan (Jerusha Young) and Lynn (Darrell MacIsaac). She will be greatly missed by her loving grandchildren Jeremy, Jonathan, Jeda, Paris, Jerusha and Conlan, and very dear friend and companion, John Schinck who has been at her bedside almost every day since she was hospitalized in December. Survived by two brothers Richard Crotty of Lennoxville, QC and Gerald Crotty of Carleton Place, ON and predeceased by her sister Kitty Harvey. She leaves behind, many nieces and nephews. Many knew her from the Sherbrooke Hospital where she worked for 22 years as the medical secretary in the laboratory. ....show - EVELYN WINNIFRED JOHNSTON (nee Gilchrist): Peacefully at The Wales Home, Richmond, Quebec on October 23rd, 2007 at the age of 94. Born in Kirkdale (South Durham). Evelyn, the eldest of the Gilchrist girls, was predeceased in 1995 by her beloved husband Elroy whom she married in 1939, and much loved daughter Sylvia in 2006. Left to mourn are son-in-law Nils Bodtker and family Brent (Fiona, Tommy and Olivia) and Britta (Scott Silverberg and Heath), all living in Calgary; also sister Marjorie Barlow (the late Murray Barlow), sister-in-law Dorothy (the late Herbert Gilchrist). Many nieces and nephews and their children and grand-children will miss her dearly. Upon receiving her teaching certificate from MacDonald College at age 16, Evelyn taught in the one-room schoolhouse which is now the “sugar-shack” on the Wales Home farm. The family lived in Asbestos, Lennoxville and Keene, N.H. prior to Roy and Evelyn moving in 1987 into an apartment in The Wales Home where they both lived out their lives in complete comfort. At Evelyn’s request, her remains have been cremated, a private graveside prayer for the family will follow and a memorial gathering to celebrate and pay tribute to her life, will be held at 6:00PM, on Saturday, November 10th 2007, in the living room of the Wales Home, 506 Rte# 243 N. Richmond, QC. The family thanks all the staff at The Wales Home for providing Evelyn with every comfort and all the attention she required. There was never a complaint. ....show - Holmes, Arthur Stevens (Steve) - Died on August 13th, 2007 at the Connaught Home in North Hatley, Quebec in his 82nd year after a long battle with rheumatoid arthritis. Dearly loved husband of Betty for 60 years. Loving father of Judith (Maurice Bradley), Hugh (Anne) and Glenn (the late Shelagh). He was predeceased by his son Timothy. Grandfather to Heather, Douglas, Gordon, Michael and Christina. He is survived by his brother Bert (Jean) and sisters-in-law Mary Jean Bean, Barbara Reed and Nancy Elliott (Ken). Steve was born and raised in Montreal. He saw duty during WWII with the R.C.A.F. and served in Coastal Command Squadron #423 in Scotland and Ireland. Upon his return he started an electrical contracting business with his brother Bert. He retired to North Hatley in 1984.Steve was an avid skier and curler. He was a strong supporter of the United Church and a member of the King Edward Masonic Lodge.There will a funeral service at the North Hatley United Church on Saturday August 18th 2007 at 2:00p.m.The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service. At Steve's request, cremation has taken place. There will be a private family interment at the Reedsville Cemetery immediately following the service.
