, 83, born May 3, 1924, to Ellie Dana Clark and Ethel May Hinton, died in Brownington on November 4, 2007, with her family at her side. Mrs. Stevens married Hiram on January 29, 1955. They farmed for many years. She loved to crochet afghans, and her sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will enjoy them for many years to come. She was an excellent cook and shared her talents with a lot of people. For numerous years she cooked her specialties for the Northeast Kingdom Coon and Cat Club and the Westmore Ladies Aid. She drove school bus for many years, making sure everyone was safe getting to and from school. She belonged to the Westmore Community Church and served as a deacon and council member; she belonged to the Westmore Ladies Aid. She was a very caring and compassionate person with many friends. She is survived by her sons Fred and Mark Stevens; by daughter-in-law Lila Stevens; by grandsons William Stevens of Glover and Dana Stevens of Brownington and his fiancée, Amanda Powell; by her "special little babies," her great-grandchildren Shane and Cayden Stevens; by her sisters-in-law Jeannette Gray and her husband, Dale, of Lyndonville and Norma Stevens of Oakman, Alabama; and by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Hiram, on September 3, 1991; by her father, Ellie Dana Clark, in 1965; by her mother, Ethel May Hinton Clark, in 1980; by her brother Ivers Clark in 1959; and by many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held November 6 at the Westmore Community Church with the Reverend W. Norman McFarland officiating. Interment followed in Lakeside Cemetery in Westmore. Patricia Ann (Goodrich) Sartelle

, 50, of Hardwick died Sunday, November 4, 2007, in the comfort of her home and with her family, following a courageous battle with cancer. Mrs. Sartelle was born March 13, 1957, in Hardwick, a daughter of Roger and Gladys (Rathburn) Goodrich. She attended Hardwick public schools and graduated from Hazen Union School in 1975. On September 19, 1998, she married Charles Howard "Charlie" Sartelle Jr. in Hardwick, where they had since made their home. In her earlier years she worked for Nancy Lee Fruit Mart in Hardwick and held a clerical position for the state of Vermont. For several years she lived in California and Kansas. She attended the United Church of Hardwick. She enjoyed traveling, reading, scrapbooking, bowling, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Charlie, of Hardwick; her parents, Roger and Alberta Goodrich and Gladys and Allen Kimball of Craftsbury; her maternal grandmother Ida Morrison of Berlin; one son, Joshua Burns, of Newport Center; two daughters, Amberlee Hernandez of Albany and Chelsea Jerome of Hardwick; three stepsons: Adam Cole of Enfield, Connecticut, Stephen Sartelle of Hardwick, and Jarrett Sartelle of Norwich, Connecticut; a stepdaughter, Carolyn Sartelle, of Mystic, Connecticut; brother Kenneth Goodrich and his wife, Marlene, of Albany; sister Lynn Goodrich of Hardwick; stepbrother Lee Kimball of Barre; stepsister Tammy Kimball of Bethel; two grandchildren, Amiah and Davin Hernandez of Albany; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by two sisters, Paula Goodrich Dufresne on October 19 and Tilly Goodrich. Visiting hours will be held Friday, November 16, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Northern Vermont Funeral Home in Hardwick. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 17, at 11 a.m. at the United Church in Hardwick with the Reverend JudyWaible officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot in the Sanborn Cemetery in East Hardwick. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Sartelle's memory may be made to the Lamoille Area Cancer Network, P.O. , 100, of Barton died peacefully October 31, 2007, at Union House Nursing Home in Glover. Mrs. Cheek was born March 7, 1907, in Crookston, Minnesota, a daughter of Alfred and Lydia (Schurban) Peterson. During World War II, she was plant manager for International Harvester. She retired after 25 years of service. She lived in Minnesota and Illinois before coming to live with her daughter Yvonne in Vermont. She was an honorary member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Disabled American Veterans auxiliaries. She enjoyed traveling and cooking. She loved life and being with her many friends and family. She is survived by her daughter Yvonne Bertolini of Barton; by grandchildren John Alan Bertolini of Barton and Mathew Bertolini and his wife, Geneva, of Barton; and by a sister, June Mauritz, of Elk River, Minnesota. She will be deeply missed by her friend Tami Stone of Barton. She was predeceased by her grandson Stephen Alan Willemsen; by her granddaughter Sharon Ann Camber; by three brothers; and by two sisters. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
James L. "Jim" Wheeler

, 63, died peacefully at his home in Island Pond early Friday morning, November 2, 2007, after a three-year battle with cancer. Born July 26, 1944, in Derby Line to Pearce Wheeler and Viola Currier Wheeler, Mr. Wheeler lived his entire life in the Northeast Kingdom. He logged in the area and worked as a barber in Island Pond for many years. He joined the Army National Guard and was called to serve in the U.S. Army. Recognizing his skills, the Army trained him as a scout. He shared his lifelong passion for hunting, fishing, animals, and nature with his children and grandchildren. He treasured the time spent at camp on Seymour Lake, whether deer hunting, brook trout fishing, or lake trout fishing summer or winter. His last hunting trip to Colorado with his son Tom was a great joy. Although he did not live to move into his new house, he did see his granddaughter Erika and grandson Chris each harvest a moose this year, a great source of pride to him. Predeceased by his parents, he is survived by his wife, Joan; by his son Tom Wheeler and his wife, Kim; by daughters: Tracy Bertsch and her husband, Andy, Nancy Doyon, and Devon Ross; by his grandchildren: Alicia and Erika Wheeler, Ryan, Paul and Brianna Bertsch, Ashley, Kylie, and Christopher Bowman, Cassidy Doyon, and Kaiden Ross; by siblings: William Wheeler, Randy Wheeler, and Margie Sisco; and by much extended family in the area. The funeral will be held privately for the family. A celebration of Mr. Wheeler's life will be held at the American Legion in Island Pond on Wednesday, November 7, at 11 a.m. To celebrate his life, instead of sending flowers, the family asks that people go for a walk in nature, take a child hunting or fishing, or volunteer at a hunter safety class.

, 54, of Newport died suddenly November 8, 2007, in Newport. Mr. Currier was born March 15, 1953, in Newport, a son of Lance and Marguerite (Ellsworth) Currier. He graduated from North Country Union High School in 1971. He is survived by his children: Melissa Currier of Derby, Trevor Currier of Bradenton, Florida, and Jonathan Currier and his wife, Rosemary, of Florida; by his grandchildren: Jonathan, Christopher, Daniel, Nicholas, Trevor Jr., Janie, Tianna, and Kayla; by brothers and sisters: Gerald Currier of Newport, Allen Currier and his, wife, Lynn of Burlington, Bruce Currier of Massachusetts, Timothy Currier and his wife, Sandy, of Island Pond, Robert Currier and his wife, Denise, of Newport, Brian Currier and his wife, Claudine, of Holland, Michael Currier of Windsor, Loren Currier of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Nancy Percy of Newport, and Janice Blais of Florida; by his aunt and uncle Gerald and Lillian Dickerman; and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Lance and Marguerite Currier; by triplet siblings: Pamela, Paul, and Paula; and by his brother Donald Currier. Funeral services were held November 11 in Newport with the Reverend Roger Fletcher officiating. Private interment will be held at a later date. , 83, of Derby, beloved husband of Ivah Chaput, died suddenly November 7, 2007, in Newport. Mr. Chaput was born on November 4, 1924, in Newport Center, a son of William and Antoinette (Deslandes) Chaput. On June 7, 1947, he married Ivah Legacy, who survives him. He and his wife owned and operated the family farm in Troy and Poole's Rest Home in Barton. He enjoyed gardening and playing cards, and he was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. He was a former member of the Elks Lodge of Newport 2155 and a member of St. Mary, Star of the Sea, Catholic Church in Newport. Besides his wife of 60 years, Ivah Chaput, he is survived by his children: Lillian Vezina and her husband, Charles, of Irasburg, Laura Brown and her husband, Leslie, of Troy, Felix Chaput Jr. and his wife, Madeline, of Derby, Frank Chaput and his wife, Sheila, of Troy, Francis Chaput and his wife, Debera, of North Troy, Lorretta Lieblein and her husband, Peter, of Long Island, New York, Marie Ingalls and her husband, Mark, of Irasburg, and Jacqueline Eldred and her husband, Michael, of Coventry; by 26 grandchildren; by 27 great-grandchildren; by a brother, Fernand Chaput, of Derby Line; by sisters: Leontine Belisle of Newport, Bernadette Belisle of Derby Line, Ida Rowe of Charlestown, New Hampshire, and Vivian Farrar of Newport; and by sister-in-law Claudette Chaput. He was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Florence Chaput, in 1952; by his grandson Leslie Brown Jr.; by his great-grandson Tyler Sanville; by his brothers: Adrien, Leo Paul, Roland, and Gerard Chaput; and by his sisters Emelda Gosselin and Florence Campbell. Funeral services were held November 10 at St. Mary, Star of the Sea, Catholic Church with the Reverend Yvon Royer celebrating a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment followed at St. Ignatius Cemetery in Lowell. , 78, of Scotia, New York, died November 5, 2007, at the Baptist Nursing, Health and Rehabilitation Center in Scotia. Mrs. Banasiak was born in Brownington, a daughter of Polydor and Evelina Choiniere Lanoue. She married Richard Banasiak in 1958. She was a housewife and homemaker. She was predeceased by her brothers Maurice and John Lanoue; and by her sister Alice Gangemi. She is survived by her husband, Richard Banasiak, of Glenville, New York; by her brothers Roland and Rouville Lanoue of Orleans; by her sister Gesele Rinewalt of Pottstown, Pennsylvania; and by several nieces and nephews. Private services will be held at the Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery in Schuylerville, New York. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
