GROVETON -
Harold L. Savage
....show , 75, of High Street, died Thursday morning August 31, 2006 at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster, after a long illness.
Mr. Savage was born in Lancaster on April 14, 1931 the son of Ernest and Cynthia (Carr) Savage.
He was raised in Groveton and was a graduate of Groveton High School. During the Korean Conflict he served with the US Army. Returning home he resided many more years in Groveton and worked at the Paper Mill for 32 ½ years. After retiring from the mill he and his wife Shirley moved to West Stewartstown and he was employed for several years as custodian of the Stewartstown School. Seventeen years later they returned to Groveton. Harold loved ice fishing and was a car enthusiast.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #17 in Groveton
Family members include his wife Shirley E. (Scott) Savage of Groveton; a son Keith H. Savage and his wife Debbie of Groveton; three grandchildren, Sarah, Amber, and Troy; a great-grandchild Riley; two brothers, Robert Savage of Ohio, Donald Savage of Franklin; two sisters, Jean Dubreuil and Carolyn Barney both of Lancaster; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son Stephen J. Savage and two infant daughters, Mary and Jodi Lynn.
Memorial visiting hours will be held Saturday afternoon, September 2, from 2-4 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A brief service and time of remembrance will be held at the close of visiting hours. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in the Northumberland Cemetery.
GILMAN -
Benjamin F.P. Mayberry Jr.
....show , 48, died of a sudden illness at his residence on Walker Pit Road, Wednesday morning, August 30, 2006.
Mr. Mayberry was born in West Stewartstown, NH, on July 12, 1958, the son of Benjamin F. P. Mayberry Sr. and Janette (Rowell) Mayberry.
During his youth he resided in Canaan, VT, but has primarily resided the local towns of St. Johnsbury, Lunenburg, and Gilman. Carpentry was his lifes work and also his favorite hobby. He was also known for the help he provided people in his local community.
Family members include his wife Cynthia L. Skinner of Gilman; from a prior marriage he has a son and daughter, Jennifer of Maine and Benjamin F.P. Mayberry III; he is also survived by his other six children, Leonard Root and wife Lauren of Barnet, Rena Skinner of Gilman, Charity Skinner of Vergennes, Breann Skinner, Biarchy Mayberry and Kylee Skinner all of Gilman; a grandson Landon; three brothers, Freeman Mayberry of Spring Creek, PA, James Mayberry of Washington, DC, Elroy Mayberry of Alaska and Hawaii; and two sisters, Bert Mayberry of St. Johnsbury and Ola Mickelboro of Manchester, NH.

Rodney A. Stillings
....show , 62, of Elm Street, died Thursday August 24, 2006, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon.
Mr. Stillings was born in Lancaster on December 2, 1943, the son of Alfred and Agnes (Thompson) Stillings.
Rodney has been a lifetime resident of the North Country including the towns of Lunenburg, Lancaster and Dalton. He has resided in Whitefield for the past year. Most of his life he has worked as a logger and for a time owned and operated the Drafty Tack Shop in Dalton. He enjoyed horses and harness making, a trade he learned from his father.
Family members include a daughter Shelly Brammer of Bradford, MA, and a granddaughter Cortney Brammer.
There are no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held Monday afternoon, August 28, at 2:00 at in the Cushman Cemetery, Dalton. Rev. Paul Powers, pastor of the Union Baptist Church of St. Johnsbury, will officiate.

Edith M. Shatneff
....show , 83, died Monday morning, August 21, 2006, at Country Village Genesis Eldercare, Lancaster.
Mrs. Shatneff was born in Bristol, on July 19, 1923, the daughter of Ralph and Eva (Flanders) Collins.
Family members include a daughter, Marion Rexford and her husband Butch, of Whitefield; two granddaughters; Sharon Duffy and her husband Michael of Grafton and Kelli Bradbury and her husband Paul of W. Stockbridge, MA; six great-grandchildren; Ellen & Erica Duffy, Stephanie Bradbury, Matthew Bradbury, Nathan Bradbury, and Heath Bradbury; on great great-grandson Deakan. She was predeceased by, her husband Theron M. Shatneff in 1979, and her son Theodore Davis in 1961.

Kenneth C. Lanpher Sr.
....show , 55, of Lancaster, died in Holderness on August 19, 2006.
Mr. Lanpher was born on February 5, 1951 in Acworth, the son of Kenneth Wallace Lanpher and Mary Pocket Lanpher.
He graduated from Keene High School in 1969 and took classes at Keene State College.
Kenneth was employed for many years at Al Melanson Company, Inc. in Keene, where he was vice-president of sales and marketing. He lived in Jefferson and Lancaster areas for the past eight years.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed camping, cooking, adult softball, baseball, and playing the guitar. He was involved with the Lions Club in Westmoreland, where he was past president.
Family members include his wife of 22 years, Sarita (Boyle) Lanpher; his son, Cody Lanpher of Jefferson; his daughter, Janell Lanpher of Jefferson; three children from a previous marriage, sons Kenneth Jr. and William, a daughter Toni; four grandsons, Dillan, Dakota, Dalton, and Conlan; a brother, Rickie Lanpher of Texas; a sister, Deborah Howard of Keene. His parents died previously.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 26, at 11:00 AM, at the Jefferson Christian Church, pastor Dean Stiles will officiate.

Andre Michael Paul Champagne
....show , 9 months old, infant son of Jeremy and Lori (Gray) Champagne, died Wednesday afternoon August 16, 2006 at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon.
Andre was born in Lebanon on October 20, 2005.
Family members include his parents of N. Stratford; one brother, Richard Lagasse; four sisters Shahonia Gray, Anastasia Gray, Sierra Champagne, Marion Champagne all of N. Stratford; maternal grandparents, Linwood and Mary Gray Sr. of Lancaster; paternal grandparents, Andy Champagne of Groveton and Lois Post of Bloomfield; Maternal Great-Grandfather Robert C. Dorr of Colebrook; Paternal Great Grandmother Fern Champagne of Colebrook; five uncles, Paul Marchand, Mike Bennett, Raymond Champange, Lenny Gray, Larry Gray; many cousins and Andres extended family at Dartmouth Hitchcock in Lebanon.
Andre loved music, being held and flirting with the ladies.
A visiting hour will be held Saturday afternoon August 19, from 1:00 to 2:00 at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A funeral service will follow immediately after at 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Rev. Lawrence Clough of Pastor of the Errol Congregational Church will officiate.
LUNENBURG -
Velmore O. Forrest
....show , 82, of S. Lunenburg Road, died Thursday morning August 10, 2006, at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster.
Mr. Forrest was born in Laconia, NH, on April 23, 1924. Raised in Lunenburg he attended schools there and was a graduate of Littleton High School. During WWII he served with the US Army and made the D Day landing in Belgium. After the war he resided in Woodstock, NH, and various other places before returning to Lunenburg.
For 29 years he served a Lunenburgs Postmaster and he was also a former Lunenburg Selectman.
He was a Communicant of St. Leos Church in Lunenburg. Memberships include John W. Weeks Post #3041, Lancaster, the Elks, and the National Association of Postmasters, of which he served one year as president.
Velmore was a devoted family man. He also enjoyed the company of his many friends and was an avid hunter and Yankees fan. He enjoyed 24 years of retirement.
Family members include his wife of 41 years, Joyce A. Forrest of Lunenburg; three daughters, Aprel A. Woods and her companion Peter Buffington of Lunenburg; Katherine Couture and husband Donald of Berlin, Linda Glass and companion William Moore of California; seven grandchildren, Rick Santaw, Kathy Hartshorn, Cher Woods, Kellie Churchill, Keith Hartshorn, Katrina Hartshorn, Connie Hartlen; thirteen grandchildren; a sister-in-law Joyce Forrest of St. Johnsbury; and several nieces. He was predeceased by a daughter Judy Bronson.
At Velmores request there will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday morning August 12, at 10:00 AM at St. Leos Church, Lunenburg. Rev. Patrick Forman, pastor of St. John the Evangelist Church, St. Johnsbury, VT, will officiate. Military honors will follow immediately after the service on the church property.

Roberta Beland

Mrs. Beland was born in Lancaster, on December 22, 1945, the daughter of Earl and Katherine (Reed) Maker Sr.
Roberta was raised in Lancaster she moved to Nashua in 1961, where she met and married her husband Arthur G. Beland, while in Nashua she was employed by Hitchiner Manufacturing Co. In 1986 she moved back to Lancaster, and continued her employment with Hitchiner in Littleton, retiring in 2003.
Family members include her husband Arthur of Lancaster; a son Arthur G. Beland Jr. and his fiancée Kathleen of Littleton; her mother Katherine of Lancaster; 2 grandchildren Derek A. Beland also of Lancaster and Jeremy J. Beland of Littleton, a great granddaughter Denise Marie; six sisters Catherine Maker, Bonnie Locke, Candie Powell all of Littleton, Gloria Maker of Lancaster, Donna Trombley and Ronnie Maker of Nashua; two brothers Frank Maker of Jefferson, Wallace Maker of Windham; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by, her father, two brothers Earl Maker Jr., and Daniel Maker.
Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, August 8, afternoon and evening from 2-4 and 7-9, at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A funeral service will be held Wednesday morning at 10:00 AM, at the funeral home, Reverend James Michaels, pastor of the Lancaster Assembly of God will officiate. Burial will follow in Summer Street Cemetery.

Elwin "John" Brown

Mr. Brown was born in Berlin, on November 12, 1929, the son of Elwin and Lyndall (Call) Brown.
John resided in Lancaster and Guildhall most of his life. He was employed as a truck driver for Perras Lumber Company for the past 32 years.
He served in the U.S. Army during Korea, and was a member of the John W. Weeks VFW Post # 3041, Lancaster.
Family members include his wife Dorothy (Baird) Brown of Guildhall; a son Kevin Brown of Sheffield, VT; two stepdaughters, Tina Ramsdell of Bethlehem, Patricia Senter and her husband Douglas of Ryegate, VT; grandchildren Katelynn and Randy Senter; two brothers; Clarence Brown of Whitefield, William Brown of Lancaster; a sister Edith Chessman of Lancaster.
There are no visiting hours. A celebration of Johns life will be held on Wednesday, August 9, at 2:00 PM, at the Perras Treasures Hall in Northumberland.

Marguerite M. Dean
....show , 84, of Presidential Highway, died Friday afternoon, September 22, 2006, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon.
Mrs. Dean was born in Melrose, MA, on February 26, 1922, the daughter of Lester and Marguerite (Hart) Chisholm.
In her youth she was raised in Providence, RI, where she attended local schools including the Katherine Gibbs Business School. She met and married her late husband Edson A. Dean Jr. and when he returned home from WWII they moved to Warwick, RI, and raised their family.
For a brief time she taught at the Katherine Gibbs School and worked for the Census Bureau and other various jobs. Primarily she believed in being a homemaker and was a devoted wife and mother.
She was member and former Deaconess of the Shawomet Baptist Church, Warwick, RI, where she took part in many of the churches activities and programs.
In 1968 she and her husband moved to Jefferson, NH. They became integral members of the Jefferson community and she was a volunteer at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster. Edson predeceased her in May of 2005.
Surviving family members include her four children, Edson A. Dean III of North Kingstown, RI, Marguerite M. Costa of Jefferson, Marilyn M. Davis of Warwick, RI, Richard C. Dean of Jefferson; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister Louise Palmer of Warwick, RI.

Mrs. Giroux was born in Westfield, Vermont on June 28, 1919 the daughter of Edward and Gertrude (Kendell) King.
Frances was raised in Westfield and Troy, Vermont. She attended Fanny Allen nursing college in Burlington were she became a registered nurse. While she was there she met and married her late husband Andre F. Giroux. During her nursing career she worked at several hospitals though out Northern New Hampshire and Vermont including Grafton, West Stewartstown, and Weeks Memorial Hospital. She has been a resident of Lancaster since the 1970s. Her hobbies included crocheting and word searches.
Family members include her daughter Carolyn Gleason of Lancaster, two granddaughters; Sarah Darling and her husband Henry of Groton, VT, Nina Hollstein and her husband Karl of Newbury, VT; five great grandchildren; Danielle Hollstein, Fantasia Darling, Caleb Hollstein, Emily Darling, and Jamie Darling; a brother Elum King of Saint Johnsbury, VT; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by, her before mentioned husband and a daughter Virginia Bolster.

Kathleen was born in Lindenhurst, NY, on July 17, 1942, the daughter of Patrick and Ann (Sinclaire) Early.
She was raised in New York and for a time employed as a model in New York City for a large cosmetic company. During her lifetime she worked as a nurses aid and visiting nurse. She enjoyed providing care for the elderly. Her family was the love of her life, raising five children who blessed her with 17 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Surviving family members include her husband Wayne Ainsworth of Dalton; three sons, Michael A. Spicer of Biddeford, ME, Patrick D. Spicer of Bremerton, WA, Thomas O. Spicer of Poulsbo, WA; a daughter Carrie J. Merritt of New Hampshire; a sister Patricia Finger of Long Island, NY; in-laws, Everett and Janet Ainsworth of Dalton; and her before mentioned grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son Timothy S. Spicer in 1976.

Mrs. Clark was born in Exeter, NH on September 9, 1918 the daughter of Forrest and Edna (Stevens) James.
Arlene enjoyed gardening and sewing. In earlier years she also enjoyed playing cards with friends and riding snowmobiles.
Family members include two sons; Dean Clark and his wife Mary Jane of Guildhall, William Clark and his wife Lynne of Lancaster; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by, her husband Earl Clark and a son Richard Clark.
