, 53, of Newport and formerly of Vevay, Indiana, died suddenly in Montreal, Quebec, on June 4, 2006. Mr. Staigl was born on September 18, 1952, a son of the late Frank and Edna (Falk) Staigl Sr. In the mid 1970s he received a master's degree in applied behavior analysis from University of the Pacific in Stockton, California. After graduating, he was employed for Rescare in Louisville, Kentucky, where he was vice president of development. He and Michael Strait shared a loving relationship for 17 years, and on January 22, 2002, they were married by civil union. Together they started Mike and Ted's Excellent Video Adventures in Indiana and a Blockbuster Video in Morrisville. He enjoyed long Sunday drives and taking weekend trips. He and Michael were avid skiers and workout partners. His nieces and nephews were an important part of his life as were his Mom and Dad when they were alive. He built a huge e-Bay business out of his hobby of selling off unneeded household items. He lived life to the fullest and never wasted a minute of it. He is survived by brothers and sisters: Edna Berlier, FrankStaigl Jr., Mary Lou Berlier, Gary Staigl, and Kevin Staigl, all of Cincinnati, Ohio; by an aunt, Cecilia Falk, of Rising Sun, Indiana; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends in social organizations. Funeral services were held June 12 at the First Universalist Parish in Derby Line with the Reverend Carole Martignacco officiating. Interment followed at the Lake Road Cemetery in Newport Center. , 90, of Granville, New York, died at her home on June 6, 2006. Mrs. Matteson was born February 19, 1916, in Fair Haven, a daughter of Clinton and Alice E. (Ward) Palmer. She worked as a housekeeper for 30 years for Dr. Brodie and Bernice Wallman for 25 years. She also assisted her husband working on numerous farms throughout the area. Survivors are her husband of 60 years, Hugh Matteson; six daughters: Alice L. Farnsworth of Cambridge, New York, Ann Bartholomew of Rutland, Mary Fenton and her husband, Jerry, of Castleton, Beverly Dunbar of Proctor, Joanne Duffany and her husband, Peter Sr., of Manchester, and Margaret Dunbar and her husband, Peter Sr., of Wells; 21 grandchildren, including Peter Dunbar Jr. of Barton; and 23 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her three sons: Almon Bartholomew, Harry Bartholomew, and Richard Matteson; and by a son-in-law, Leo Farnsworth. A funeral service was held June 8 at the Robert M. King Funeral Home in Granville with the Reverend Jane Baker of the Embury United Methodist Church officiating. Burial followed at the Poultney Cemetery. , 77, of Coventry died in Newport on Wednesday, June 7, 2006. Mr. Manning was born June 20, 1928, a son of Athol and Marion (Jeffrey) Manning. In 1950 he married Elizabeth Miles, who predeceased him. He was a life member of Newport Elks Club No. 2155 and was a member of Memphremagog Lodge No. 65 of Free and Accepted Masons. He and his business partner Harold Turner owned and operated Manning & Turner for many years. After leaving the business he sold cars in the area for several years for several of the area auto dealers. He also operated his own auto sales business. He worked for Carl Larose in Barton for over ten years before retiring. Among other endeavors he and his wife owned and operated a Laundromat in Orleans. He was the type of man who always kept busy and especially enjoyed working in his yard and garden. He was a man always willing to give a hand to help others. He was a faithful member of the Orleans Federated Church for over 15 years. He is survived by his longtime companion, Eve Mishou; by two sons, David of Essex and Jeff and his wife, Wendy, of Orleans; by his grandchildren Aaron Manning of Seattle, Washington, and Nathan Graves of Newport; by his brother Howard Manning and his wife, Arleen, of Illinois; and by several nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his dog Bramley, his faithful companion and playmate, and his special cat, Little One. He was predeceased by his brothers Bill and Red; and by his sisters Kay Brock and Ruth Young. Funeral services were held June 11 at a funeral home in Newport with Reverend Jerry Piper officiating. Interment will take place at a later date at Pine Grove Cemetery in Newport. , 57, died Friday, January 27, 2006, at the Desert Life Rehab Center, surrounded by members of his loving family. Mr. Leroux was born in Barton on September 7, 1948, a son of Lucien and Jeannette (Messier) Leroux. He served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1966 to 1969. He moved with his family to Tucson, Arizona, in 1978. He is survived by his mother, Jeannette Leroux; by sisters: Jacqueline Jacobson of Tucson, Lucille Pacheco of Chesapeake, Virginia, Monique Mitchell of Wayne, Maine, Michelle Stone of Tucson, and Rosemarie Nader of Hartford, Connecticut; by his brother Marc of Agawam, Massachusetts; by a niece; and by six nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Lucien Leroux, on September 13, 2000. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Barton at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 17, followed by a full military service at St. Paul's Cemetery.

, 80, of North Wolcott died at her home in the loving care of her family on Sunday morning, June 11, 2006. Mrs. LaMare was born in Eden on February 4, 1926, a daughter of Claude and Lila (Lawson) Brown. She attended school in Eden and Craftsbury. On September 15, 1946, she married Raymond LaMare. He died March 27, 1994. She and her husband made their home in North Wolcott where they raised eight children. She was a member of the United Church of Craftsbury and the Horse and Buggy Club. She loved her family, her birds, and flowers. She enjoyed camping, horseback riding, and riding her motorcycle until her family thought it unwise for her to continue. She also enjoyed her collection of Indian crafts. She leaves her four sons: Raymond Leo LaMare and his wife, Linda, of North Wolcott, Randy LaMare and his wife, Susan, of Morrisville, Mitchell LaMare and his wife, Paulette, of Craftsbury, and Monty LaMare and his wife, Tracy, of Morrisville; four daughters: Darlene Phelps and her husband, Roland, of Morrisville, Muriel Lowell and her husband, Paul, of Elmore, Rita Martin and her husband, Paul, of Albany, and Sherry LaMare-Beaulieu and her husband, Brad, of Wolcott; one brother, Philip Brown, of North Wolcott; 19 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond; by three brothers: Max, Paul, and Edgar Brown; and by a sister, Dorothy Reil. She graduated from North Country Union High School in 1978 and from the the Fanny Allen School of Nursing in 1979. She was a licensed practical nurse at the Humana Hospital in West Palm Beach, Florida. She enjoyed gardening, sunbathing at the beach, and staying at the camp on Lake Salem. She is survived by her children: Jared Marsh of Derby Line, Joseph Marsh of Jericho, and twins Korey and Kayleigh Marsh of Derby; by her mother, Shirley Rochefort, of Derby Line; by a granddaughter, Hannah Marie Marsh; by brothers and sisters: Michael Ladd and his wife, Bonnie, of Glover, David Ladd and his wife, Marie, of Churchville, Maryland, Jon Ladd and his wife, Brenda, of Albany, New York, and William Ladd and his wife, Lyinda, of Homosassa, Florida; and by several nieces and nephews. , 80, of Craftsbury died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, June 6, 2006. Mr. Hodgdon was born in Craftsbury on May 28, 1926, a son of Edward E. and Dora (Shedd) Hodgdon. He attended grade school in Craftsbury where he lived most of his life. He married Margaret Brown on January 8, 1949, in Morrisville. Together they made their home at the foot of Ketchum Hill in Craftsbury and raised five sons. He worked as a farmhand, at Dill's Mill, as a mechanic for the Craftsbury Garage, and as a bus driver for Craftsbury Schools working for Donald Johnson and John Sinon. Besides his wife, Margaret, he leaves his five sons: Warner and his wife, Kathy, of Green, New York, Bradley and his wife, Nancy, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Gary and his wife, Roberta, of White River Junction, Dennis and his friend, Gail, of Craftsbury, and Paul and his wife, Carole, of Craftsbury; a brother, Marvin Hodgdon, of New Jersey; two sisters, Alice Willey of Hyde Park and Ruby Beeman of Morrisville; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings: RoscoHodgdon, Lelia "DeDe" Larrabee, Margaret Lang, Chloe Benoit, and Olive Greene; and by a half-brother, Leamus Shedd. , 61, of North Troy died in Newport on Monday, June 12, 2006. Mr. Dumont was born in Albany on November 19, 1944, a son of Maurice and Sylvia (Limoges) Dumont. He served in the Vermont National Guard for six years. He worked as a machinist at Tivoly, retiring in 2004 after 37 years of service. He loved to fish on Lake Memphremagog from his boat, especially in the Owl's Head area, and almost always released his catches. He enjoyed cooking, much to the delight of his wife and family. On April 16, 1966, he married Patricia Cadieux, who survives him. He is also survived by his daughters Theresa Donovan and her husband, Chris, of Newport Center and Monique Dumont and her husband, Todd Souliere, of Jaffrey, New Hampshire; by his grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Jillian, and Riley Donovan, all of Newport Center; and by his brothers, Roger Dumont of Newport and Andre Dumont and his wife, Ann, of Florida. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, June 15, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in North Troy at 10 a.m. with the Reverend Jerome Mercure officiating. , 95, of Houston, Texas, died May 5, 2006, at the Vista Care Triumph Center in Houston, Texas. Mrs. Dollins was born June 3, 1910, in Hardwick, a daughter of the late Walter and Blanche (Marsh) Field. She attended Hardwick and Greensboro public schools and continued her education at Johnson Normal School. She spent many years making a home for herself and her husband in both North and South American countries due to her husband's employment, which required travel for extended periods of time. She attended church services at the East Hardwick Congregational Church, which was very special to her. She was a member of the East Hardwick Grange. She spent summers in Vermont with family and friends. Playing cards was one of her favorite pastimes. Survivors include a sister, Beulah Field, a resident at Haven Health Nursing Home in St. Albans; 11 nieces and nephews; and a dear friend, Jean McCauly, of Houston. She was predeceased by her husband, Scott Dollins; and by two sisters, Pearl Kendall and Vivian Allen. A memorial service honoring her life will be held on Saturday, June 17, at 11 a.m. at the East Hardwick Congregational Church with the Reverend Paul Chandler officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot in the Sanborn Cemetery in East Hardwick.

, 81, of Newport Center died at her home in the loving arms of her family. Mrs. Brown was born the youngest daughter of Harold and Jane Dow on February 20, 1925. On September 28, 1945, she married the love of her life, Elwyn L. Brown, who survives her after 60 years together. She graduated from Newport Center High School in 1943. She was then employed by Chance Vought Company Aircraft Parts during World War II in Bridgeport, Connecticut, where she assembled airplane engines. In earlier years her hobbies included playing golf at the Newport Country Club where she and her husband were members. She was a member of the Newport Center women's bowling league. She really enjoyed hunting, fishing, and taking family drives with her husband and two sons. In later years she loved dining out with family and friends, playing cards and pool at her home, and receiving special visits by all the people she loved. She was an avid Red Sox fan, except against her husband, who was a Yankees fan. Through her years of sickness she always held a positive appearance with everyone who knew her. She will leave a void in many lives. She is also survived by her two loving sons and their wives, Glen and Arlene Brown and Fred and Sheryl Brown, all of Newport Center; by two grandchildren, Glen Warren and his wife, Tammy Brown, of Derby and Sharon and Dylan Eustaces of Lyndonville; by three great-grandchildren: Brandon and Brooklyn Brown and Myah Eustace; by a sister, Doris D. LaCross, of Newport; and by a very special part of the family, Dottie Bouton of Middlebury. She was predeceased by her parents; by a brother, Carlton Dow; and by a sister, Carolyn Rowland. , 84, of Essex Junction died on Thursday, June 8, 2006, at her home. Mrs. Beaulieu was born in Troy on November 21, 1921, a daughter of the late Octavien J. and Alexandrina (Roberge) Coutu. She was a World War II veteran, having served with the U.S. Navy Hospital Corps from 1945 to 1947. In 1951 she married Philippe E. Beaulieu. They spent 43 years in Westfield where she was town clerk and treasurer. She was a teacher in the Westfield, Newport, and North Troy schools. She was very active in the Sacred Heart Parish in Troy. In 1995 she moved to Essex Junction where she has been a member of St. Lawrence Church, the Blue Spruce Grange, and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She is survived by her two daughters and their spouses, Helene and William Bentley of St. Stephen, New Brunswick, and Annette and Star Phillips of Charlotte, North Carolina; by her grandchildren Keith Bentley of Toronto, Ontario, and Kimberly Bentley of St. Stephen; by her brother Jean Peter Coutu and wife, Joyce, of Essex Junction; by her sisters: Madeline Lister and ThereseMagnant of Essex Junction and Sister Patrice (Georgette) Coutu of Techney, Illinois; and by numerous nieces and nephews. , 89, of Albany died peacefully at Union House Nursing Home in Glover on Sunday, May 28, 2006. Mrs. Whipple was born in Lyme, Connecticut, on October 18, 1916, a daughter of Joseph and Rosa (Latham) Rand. She graduated from Pratt High School in Essex, Connecticut. A self-taught musician, she and her brother and a sister formed a band and played locally at Grange suppers, fire house suppers, etc. until they got pretty good and won a radio contract at a talent show. They played at various venues for several years and traveled with a rodeo. They played in Nashville on the radio. She grew lonesome, so she and her former husband moved back to Connecticut. Music being an integral part of her life, she played bass with her former husband and his sister in a band and later opened a piano and organ store, which they operated for 20 years. She was a school bus driver in Lebanon, Connecticut, for 18 years before following her daughter and family to Vermont in 1989. She made her home in Albany for many years where she was active in the Albany Historical Society and attended the Albany Methodist Church. In her seventies she took courses and earned a library degree. She was the librarian at the Albany Town Library for 11 years. She again formed a band with her family, including her daughter, grandson, and her sister, and took up her music, which had been dormant for a number of years. It was the music that kept her happy and healthy in Vermont for so long. She leaves her daughter, JacalynTollmann, and her husband, Robert; a grandson, Chad Tollmann, and his wife, Jennifer; and a great-grandson, Zachary, all of Albany; two sisters, Harriet Champlin of Barton and Rosa Cunningham of Union House; and two nephews. , 57, died Friday, January 27, 2006, at the Desert Life Rehab Center, surrounded by members of his loving family. Mr. Leroux was born in Barton on September 7, 1948, a son of Lucien and Jeannette (Messier) Leroux. He served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1966 to 1969. He moved with his family to Tucson, Arizona, in 1978. He is survived by his mother, Jeannette Leroux; by sisters: Jacqueline Jacobson of Tucson, Lucille Pacheco of Chesapeake, Virginia, Monique Mitchell of Wayne, Maine, Michelle Stone of Tucson, and Rosemarie Nader of Hartford, Connecticut; by his brother Marc of Agawam, Massachusetts; by a niece; and by six nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Lucien Leroux, on September 13, 2000. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Barton at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 17, followed by a full military service at St. Paul's Cemetery.

, 80, of North Wolcott died at her home in the loving care of her family on Sunday morning, June 11, 2006. Mrs. LaMare was born in Eden on February 4, 1926, a daughter of Claude and Lila (Lawson) Brown. She attended school in Eden and Craftsbury. On September 15, 1946, she married Raymond LaMare. He died March 27, 1994. She and her husband made their home in North Wolcott where they raised eight children. She was a member of the United Church of Craftsbury and the Horse and Buggy Club. She loved her family, her birds, and flowers. She enjoyed camping, horseback riding, and riding her motorcycle until her family thought it unwise for her to continue. She also enjoyed her collection of Indian crafts. She leaves her four sons: Raymond Leo LaMare and his wife, Linda, of North Wolcott, Randy LaMare and his wife, Susan, of Morrisville, Mitchell LaMare and his wife, Paulette, of Craftsbury, and Monty LaMare and his wife, Tracy, of Morrisville; four daughters: Darlene Phelps and her husband, Roland, of Morrisville, Muriel Lowell and her husband, Paul, of Elmore, Rita Martin and her husband, Paul, of Albany, and Sherry LaMare-Beaulieu and her husband, Brad, of Wolcott; one brother, Philip Brown, of North Wolcott; 19 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond; by three brothers: Max, Paul, and Edgar Brown; and by a sister, Dorothy Reil. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 15, at 11 a.m. at the United Church of Craftsbury. Interment will follow in the Branch Cemetery in Craftsbury. , 46, of Derby died June 10, 2006, in Newport. Ms. Ladd was born April 23, 1960, in Sunbury, Pennsylvania, a daughter of Shirley (Turner) Rochefort and the late Forrest Ladd. She graduated from North Country Union High School in 1978 and from the the Fanny Allen School of Nursing in 1979. She was a licensed practical nurse at the Humana Hospital in West Palm Beach, Florida. She enjoyed gardening, sunbathing at the beach, and staying at the camp on Lake Salem. She is survived by her children: Jared Marsh of Derby Line, Joseph Marsh of Jericho, and twins Korey and Kayleigh Marsh of Derby; by her mother, Shirley Rochefort, of Derby Line; by a granddaughter, Hannah Marie Marsh; by brothers and sisters: Michael Ladd and his wife, Bonnie, of Glover, David Ladd and his wife, Marie, of Churchville, Maryland, Jon Ladd and his wife, Brenda, of Albany, New York, and William Ladd and his wife, Lyinda, of Homosassa, Florida; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Forrest Ladd, in 1966; and by a sister, Cheryl Ladd, in 1957. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 16, at the Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Memorial Chapel on Lake Road in Newport with the Reverend Yvon Royer officiating. , 97, of Newport died peacefully June 7, 2006, in Newport. Mrs. Labor was born January 1, 1909, in Newport, a daughter of William and Elizabeth (Moffette) Labounty. On January 4, 1937, she married Harold Labor, who predeceased her January 13, 1997. She was a member of St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Newport, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 798 Auxilliary of Newport, and American Legion Post No. 21 Auxilliary of Newport. She enjoyed spending time with her family and reading. She is survived by the following children: Merrill Labor and his wife, Myrna, of Derby, Anita Owen and her husband, Bob, of Beverly Hills, Florida, and Merrick Labor and his friend, Denise Begin, of Newport; by the following grandchildren: Sue-aneMascaro and her husband, Anthony, of Hamdon, Massachusetts, Corey Labor and his wife, Kate, of Colchester, Scott Labor and his wife, Allison, of Waitfield, Massachusetts, Mary Prenaveau and her husband, Jim, of Plasto, New Hampshire, and Sarah Owen of Chicago, Illinois; by several nieces and nephews. , 80, of Craftsbury died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, June 6, 2006. Mr. Hodgdon was born in Craftsbury on May 28, 1926, a son of Edward E. and Dora (Shedd) Hodgdon. He attended grade school in Craftsbury where he lived most of his life. He married Margaret Brown on January 8, 1949, in Morrisville. Together they made their home at the foot of Ketchum Hill in Craftsbury and raised five sons. He worked as a farmhand, at Dill's Mill, as a mechanic for the Craftsbury Garage, and as a bus driver for Craftsbury Schools working for Donald Johnson and John Sinon. Besides his wife, Margaret, he leaves his five sons: Warner and his wife, Kathy, of Green, New York, Bradley and his wife, Nancy, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Gary and his wife, Roberta, of White River Junction, Dennis and his friend, Gail, of Craftsbury, and Paul and his wife, Carole, of Craftsbury; a brother, Marvin Hodgdon, of New Jersey; two sisters, Alice Willey of Hyde Park and Ruby Beeman of Morrisville; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings: Rosco Hodgdon, Kathleen Clapper, Lelia "DeDe" Larrabee, Margaret Lang, Chloe Benoit, and Olive Greene; and by a half-brother, LeamusShedd.
