, 90, formerly of East Charleston and more recently of Westfield, Massachusetts, died in Westfield on Friday, October 13, 2006. Mr. Bly was born in East Charleston on October 31, 1915, a son of Harly H. and Ethel (Holt) Bly on the old Bly farm on Route 105. He graduated from Newport High School. At the time was active in De Moley and was a member of the National Thespiens, a high school club of dramatic theater members. He graduated from Bay Path Institute in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1940. He then worked for several months for Canadian Pacific and Immigration in Newport before moving back to Springfield and going to work for Perkins Machine. He took several courses at Weston New England College in its evening program and graduated in 1949. After graduation he was the school's librarian and worked evenings in the office for several years. He was a past member of the Westfield Grange for over 15 years. He was a member of the Westfield Baptist Church, a past deacon and assistant treasurer, and a member of the men's fellowship organization for many years. He is survived by his sister Alice Gonyaw and her husband, Roland, of Morgan; by his brothers Harley " Sam" Bly of Newport and Edward Bly and his wife, Thelma, of East Charleston; and by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Joel and Richard. Friends may call at the Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Funeral Home on Darling Hill Road in Newport on Wednesday, October 18, from 1 to 2 p.m. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. with Reverend Roger Fletcher officiating. Interment will follow at the Hillside Cemetery in East Charleston.

, 101, died in her sleep October 5, 2006, at the Greensboro Nursing Home. She was born in Stamford on January 19, 1905, to Cora and James Andrew. When she was a baby her family moved to Pittsfield, Massachusetts, where, in and around the area, she spent some 95 years. In 1923, she married Charles F. Burghardt. He died in 1967. After a fall in 2000, she moved to the Craftsbury Comunity Care Center where she could be near her daughter Etta Peabody. Later she moved to the Greensboro Nursing Home, where she received excellent care until her death. She is survived by her daughter Etta Peabody of West Glover; by her granddaughter Gara of Friedrichsdorf, Germany; by grandsons and granddaughters-in-law Alan and Sharon of Anchorage, Alaska and Charles and Virginia of Berthoud, Colorado; by great-grandchildren: Karen of Waltham, Massachusetts, Tilmann of Erlangen, Germany, and Anke of Georgetown, Colorado; and by great-great-grandchildren Tristan of Waltham and Kaia of Georgetown. She was predeceased by granddaughter Deborah; and by great-granddaughter Rebecca. Her family has great love, respect and admiration for her life of 101 years. Her example of independence and forthrightness will always be remembered and be there for a model. There will be a memorial service at a later date with interment in Millard Cemetery in Stamford. , 66, of East Haven died at his son's residence on Friday, October 6, 2006. Mr. MacDonald was born in Hardwick on July 22, 1940, a son of Earl and Mary (Graham) MacDonald. A former resident of Greensboro, had recently moved to East Haven. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the U.S. Army for over 21 years and retiring from the Vermont Army National Guard. For the last 11 years he was employed by the Vermont State Highway Department, retiring due to ill health. Among his survivors are two sons, Earl and Bernard MacDonald. Graveside services and interment with full military honors were held in Vermont Veterans Cemetery in Randolph October 17.

, 69, a lifetime resident of Albany, died at his home on Sunday, October 22, 2006, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Cubit was born in Albany on August 31, 1937, a son of Richard A. and Doris L. (Smith) Cubit. He was a 1955 graduate of Orleans High School. He married Marion Darling in Colchester on September 22, 1959. They made their home in Albany and raised seven children. He was a carpenter, working many years for others and the last ten years as a self-employed craftsman. He was an avid family and town historian and wrote a summary of his life called Marvin's Memorabelia. He was a member of the Albany Historical Society and Maple Valley Grange No. 450 in Albany, where he held many offices. He was a member and past master of Prospect Pamona Grange and a member of the state and national Granges. He was a justice of the peace for many years in Albany and was the town's last overseer of the poor. He was a member and high priest of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Newport. He leaves his wife, Marion, of Albany; four sons: Marvin Jr. and his wife, Candy, of Irasburg, Mark and his wife, Tatiana, of Albany, Marston and his wife, Becky, of Morgan, and Marcellus and his wife, Mary, of Albany; three daughters: Martha Bissell and her husband, Thomas, of Walden, Marlene Goodrich and her husband, Kenneth, of Albany, and Margery Perry and her husband, Willard, of Albany; two sisters, Luciene Larabee and her husband, Vernal, and Marcia Cubit of Soldotna, Alaska; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many extended family members. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 28, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Newport. Interment will be in Branch Cemetery in Craftsbury. , 85, formerly of Newport, died in Barton on Wednesday, October 18, 2006. Mrs. Glodgett was born April 6, 1920, in Brownington, a daughter of Benjamin and Carolyn (Blouin) Provoncha. She married Dean LaFlam, and to this union were born three children. She then married Ernest Glodgett in 1950. He predeceased her. She worked at several jobs over the years, including Orleans Manufacturing, Orleans County Memorial Hospital, and Grant's in Newport and as a counselor for Alcoholics Anonymous under Charles Moore. She was a person who lived life to the fullest and who always enjoyed a good time. She loved to have her grandchildren come to visit, which included playing cribbage and drinking Tab. She is survived by her children: Lee Laflam and his wife, Beth, of Georgetown, Texas, Larry LaFlam and his wife, Jeanne, of Denver, Colorado, and Judy Fortin and her husband, Robert, of Derby; by her sister Gee Greenwood of East Hartford, Connecticut; by ten grandchildren; by 14 great-grandchildren; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters: Alma Hardie, Arene Richardson, Elsie Barry, Doris Martin, and another sister at birth. Graveside services will be held Friday, October 27, at Pleasantiew Cemetery in Orleans at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Roger Fletcher officiating. Interment will follow. , 93, a longtime resident of Hardwick, died at the Craftsbury Community Care Center Sunday morning, October 22, 2006. Mr. Gomes was born in Greensboro on June 23, 1913, a son of Jack M. and Olga (Curtis) Gomes. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7779 of Hyde Park. He married Sadie Lamphear and later married Laura Marckres. He was a mechanic for many years at Tanguay's Garage in Greensboro Bend, Slayton's Ford Garage, and Atkins Garage in Hardwick. He had been a logger and farmer. He very much enjoyed telling stories of his time in the service and the old days of hard work and enjoyed attending the Marckres reunions for many years. He leaves two sons, Jerry Gomes and his wife, Mary, of Montpelier and Charley Gomes and his wife, Marilyn, of Tucson, Arizona; a sister, Olga Lewis-Bolduc, of Littleton, New Hampshire; two stepdaughters, Edna Anair and her husband, Reginald, of Underhill and Thelma Moulton of Westport, New York; 11 grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Nancy Gomes, of Greensboro; a brother-in-law, Enzo Zampieri, of North Montpelier; and other extended family members. He was predeceased by his wives, Sadie Lamphear and Laura Marckres; by his brother Herbert Gomes; by two sisters, Ona Lamphear and Ola Zampieri; by a stepson, Winifred Marckres; and by a grandson, Matthew Salls. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 25, at the East Craftsbury Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Jack Cabaness officiating. Interment will follow in the Craftsbury Village Cemetery. The family will receive friends and family at the Davis Funeral Home in Craftsbury Comon on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

, 90, of Island Pond died in Newport on Thursday, October 19, 2006. Mr. Gray was born in Newark on April 19, 1916, a son of Elden and Ardella (Smith) Gray. On April 20, 1940, he married Bernadette Morrissette, who predeceased him. He worked for the Canadian National Railroad, retiring in 1978. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed dancing with his wife, and he enjoyed football. He is survived by his caretakers, " Charlie's Angels" Pauline Marsden of Island Pond, Betty Castrogiovanni of Island Pond, and Lorraine Farley of Derby. He was predeceased by his children Dalton Gray and Catherine Gray; and by his half-brother Harold Gray. Graveside services were held October 23 at Lakeside Cemetery in Island Pond with the Reverend William Morgan officiating. Interment followed. , 81, of Norton died in Stewartstown, New Hampshire, on Monday, October 23, 2006. Mr. Hadlock was born on August 17, 1925 in Norton, a son of Austin and Thayer (Welch) Hadlock. He attended Barton Academy. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater. He worked in maintenance for GSA in Norton. He was fire chief and lister for the town of Norton. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Island Pond Random Post No. 2309 and American Legion Island Pond Post No. 80. On June 10, 1950, he married Patricia Daniels, who survives him. He is survived by his sister Nona Goldstein of Enosburg Falls; by his brothers-in-law Robert Daniels and his wife, Shirley, of Derby and John C. Daniels of Norton; by his sister-in-law Elizabeth D. Trudeau and her husband, Victor, of South Carolina; by his dog Dolly; and by numerous nieces and nephews. , 56, of Newark and formerly of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, died at the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehab Center on Wednesday, October 18, 2006, following a brief illness. Mr. Laythe was born in Newport May 29, 1950, a son of the late Fred and Doris (Peters) Laythe. He served his country in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War after which he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal and a Purple Heart. He raised his family and worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Rhode Island. He returned to Vermont to retire. He was a member of Lyndonville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10038 and the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Northern Chapter of New England. He attended the Seventh Day Adventist Church in St. Johnsbury. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, nature, and playing bingo. He leaves his fiancé, Brenda Bundy, of Newark; two sons, Norman Laythe Jr. of Alexandria, Virginia, and Matthew Laythe of Cranston, Rhode Island; a daughter, Tonya Waldron, of Pawtucket, Rhode Island; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Melvin Laythe; and by two sisters, Beulah Rash and Olive Allen. A graveside funeral was held October 21 at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Newark with Pastor Octavian Poenaru of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in St. Johnsbury officiating. , 64, of Derby died suddenly on October 20, 2006, in Newport. Mr. Lucas was born April 26, 1942, in Newport, a son of Raymond and Lila (Horskins) Lucas. He was employed by the city of Newport for 30 years. For 22 years he was a member of the Vermont National Guard. He was a former member of American Legion Post No. 21 and the Eagles. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his two sons, Raymond Lucas Jr. and his wife, Amber, of Coventry and Cori Lucas and his wife, Candace, of Newport; by six grandchildren: Bethany, Katie, Tyler, Mya, Jacob, and Olivia; by brothers and sisters: Wayne Lucas and his wife, Connie, of Jay, Joyce Hebert and her husband, Terry, of Newport, Steve Lucas of Derby, David Lucas and his wife, Eula, of Newport, and Carol Decker and her husband, Wayne, of Nassau, New York; and by several nieces and nephews. , 72, of Newport died peacefully October 21, 2006, in Lebanon, New Hampshire. Mr. Lucier was born September 22, 1934, in Nashua, New Hampshire, a son of Arthur and Nellie (Irvine) Lucier. He was employed in a factory in Lawrence, Massachusetts, and was a construction builder. He enjoyed collecting coins and jewelry. He is survived by a sister, Lorraine Sargent, and her husband, Erwin, of Newport Center; by several nieces and nephews; by a dear friend and co-worker, Dean Proctor, of the old coin and silver jewelry shop in Newport; and by dear friend Corrine Ross of Newport. Funeral services were held October 25 at the Curtis-Britch Converse Rushford Funeral Chapel in Newport with the Reverend David Lisner officiating.
