Roger "Bucky" Prevost

, 86, of Barton died in Lebanon, New Hampshire, on Thursday, December 7, 2006. Mr. Prevost was born on September 26, 1920, in Derby, a son of Louis and Bertha (Couture) Provost. He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II and was stationed in Okinawa in the Asiatic Pacific Theaters, often as a marksman riding heavy equipment to protect the operator. Over the years he personified the word entrepreneur, owning a dry cleaning business, several laundermats, a restaurant, a hotel, three post offices, among several business ventures. He sold artesian wells for Cushing, drove oil drilling trucks and made trips to Portland, worked for John Deere, owned his own dairy farm, and the last few years drove a Veterans Administration government van, a job he enjoyed tremendously. Over the years he and his family went to Florida, Hawaii, Arizona, and to Nova Scotia to go lobster fishing. His real love was Vermont and being home. He was a member of American Legion Barton Post No. 76, St. Paul's Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus Barton Bishop Ryan Council No. 2933. On August 20, 1951, he married Betty Comstock, who survives him. He is survived by his daughter Betsey Prevost-Ricciardi and her husband, Alfred, of Scottsdale, Arizona; by his brother Richard "Pinky" Provost of Derby; by his sister Marguerite Smyrski of Montpelier; by sister-in-law Sally Provost; and by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers: Roland, Paul, Romeo "Red," and George; and by his sister Anita Curran. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated December 13 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Barton with the Reverend Daniel Rupp officiating. Spring interment will take place at the Welcome O. Glenna Mildred Piper

, 86, of Derby died at her home on Tuesday, December 5, 2006. Mrs. Piper was born November 10, 1920, in Newport, a daughter of George and Rena (Randall) Hardy. She worked many different jobs. She was a teacher at the Kinderschool in Newport Center. She worked at Fellows Gear Shaper, Incorporated, where she was a secretary in the machine shop at the military defense plant in Springfield. She was a proofreader at Reader's Digest in New York City, and she owned and operated Piper's Variety Store in Derby. She was a volunteer for the Vermont Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, a Sunday school teacher, and a Girl Scout leader. She sang in the choir and was a member of the Derby United Church. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. On November 16, 1941, she married Carlton Piper, who predeceased her in 1997. She is survived by her children Carol Piper of Newport Center and Eric Piper of Derby; by her grandchildren Marcia and Trevor; and by her sister Dorothy LaCross of Bennington. Funeral services were held December 9 at the Derby United Church with the Reverend Fred Barker officiating. Spring interment will take place at the Derby Center Cemetery.

, 88, of Newport died peacefully Decemeber 9, 2006, in Derby Line surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Marsh was born August 4, 1918, in Jay, a daughter of Erwin and Violet (Chamberland) Gallup. On May 23, 1938, she married Carmi Marsh, who predeceased her in 1998. She was an active member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Newport. She and her late husband were active members of the Elks Club in Derby and the Forever Young Club in Newport. She especially loved her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed working on puzzles, watching games shows, growing raspberries, playing bingo, dancing, and baking. She is survived by her children: Carolyn L. Marsh of Derby Line, Carmi Marsh and his wife, Pierrette, of Derby Line, and Judith Hughes and her husband, Mark, of Lyndonville; by grandchildren: Scott and Michelle Marsh of Derby, Julie Marsh of West Lebanon, New Hampshire, Samantha and David Aronosn of Northfield, and Amanda Marsh and her fiancé, Jamie Silva, of Whitefield, New Hampshire; by three great-grandchildren: Katesawn, Nathan, and Dana Marsh; by two nephews, Gary Gallup of Ohio and Peter Marsh; by a niece, Gail Gallup, of North Troy; by a brother-in-law, William Marsh, and his wife, Fratia, of North Troy; and by special caregivers Tina Routhier and and Chris Blais. She was predeceased by her brother Walter; by his wife, Ethel; and by their son Gaylord Gallup. A graveside service was held December 12 at the Newport Center Cemetery with the Reverend John Keenan officiating. Leo J. Ducharme

, 70, of Derby died peacefully at his home on Thursday, December 7, 2006, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Ducharme was born May 8, 1936, in Barnston, Quebec, a son of Ovide and Irene (Viens) Ducharme. For many years he worked for the village of Derby Line and owned Ducharme Apartments in Derby Line. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge No. 2155, the Derby Line Fire Department, and Derby Line Ambulance for many years. He enjoyed being in the outdoors, hunting, fishing, four-wheeling, and sugaring. He was a very devoted father, husband, and grandfather. On June 18, 2002, he married Christine Arel, who survives him. He is survived by his children: Diane Rocker of Rougemont, North Carolina, Denis Ducharme and his wife, Paula, of Derby Line, Daniel Ducharme and his fiancée, Crystal, of Derby Line, and Stephanie and Brooke of Derby; by his grandchildren: David and Danielle Rocker of Rougemont, Jacob Ducharme of Derby Line, and Hunter Ducharme of Derby Line; by his brothers: Gerard Ducharme of Derby Line, Paul Ducharme and his companion, Vickie, of Clearwater, Florida, and Claude Ducharme and his companion, Pat, of Lancaster, Massachusetts; by his sisters: Lucille Leblanc and her husband, Louis, of Clinton, Massachusetts, Georgette Stratton and her husband, George, of Stanstead, Quebec, and Dolores Tinker of Orleans; by his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Lorraine Lyon and her husband, John, of Derby, Clovis Arel and his wife, Debbie, of Cambridge, Louise Roy and her husband, Raymond, of Canaan, and Maryann Tetreault and her husband, Willey, of Derby; and by several nieces, nephews, and close friends. Dora V. Deaette

, 88, of North Troy died peacefully December 6, 2006, in Newport. Mrs. Deaette was born April 14, 1918, in Mansonville, Quebec, a daughter of Levi and Rose (Prevey) St. Onge. In 1940 she married Howard Deaette Sr., who predeceased her in 1989. She always enjoyed the company of her dogs and cats. She liked to care for her houseplants and flowers, and she enjoyed knitting for family and friends. She and her son Dennis liked going for rides and eating out. They especially enjoyed desserts. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Jay. She is survived by two sons, Howard Deaette Jr. and Dennis Deaette, both of North Troy; by her grandchildren: Robert and Linette of Jay and Donald and Bradley of Newport; by four great-grandchildren; and by her sister-in-law Annette St.Onge. She was predeceased by three brothers: Levi, Archie, and Lawrence St. Onge; and by a sister, Mary Brodeur. Funeral services were held December 11 at St. Vincent de Paul Church in North Troy with the Reverend Henry Mlinganisa celebrating a Mass of Christian Burial. Spring interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery in North Troy. Richard Cole

, 59, of North Troy died at his home, surrounded by his loving family, Saturday, December 9, 2006, after a courageous 16-month battle with cancer. Mr. Cole was born June 29, 1947, in Newport, a son of Clifton and Florence (Robinson) Cole. He served in the United States Air Force during the mid-1960s. He married Nancy Riegel on September 28, 1972, in North Troy. He worked at the Northern State Correctional Facility as a corrections officer for over 12 years. While there, he was an American Red Cross cardiopulmonary resuscitation instructor until he took an early retirement due to his illness. His hobbies included sports, his motorcycle, the Can-Am Speedway, computers, the Cole camp, his boat, watching his grandchildren play sports, and most recently four-wheeling with his family. One of his favorite things to do was play music with the Morse Family Band. He was one of the founding members of the Missisquoi Valley Ambulance Service. He helped organize the Missisquoi Valley Historical Society. He was a member of American Legion Jay Peak Post No. 28 of North Troy, where he held many post commands over the years. He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy, of North Troy; by daughters Tina Therrien of St. Johnsbury and Jana Therrien and her husband, Kevin, of Newport Center; by daughter-in-law Kim Cole of Derby Line; by son-in-law Mark Therrien of Newport; by grandchildren: Corey, Nathan, Kristin, Jessica, Nicole, and Chantal Therrien and Tabitha Cole; by his brother Reginald Cole and his wife, Rachel, of Zephyrhills, Florida; by sisters-in-law: Dorothy Corkins of Newport, Shirley Doncaster and her husband, Otis, of Coventry, Dee Dee Morse and her husband, Richard, of Cornish, New Hampshire, and Mary Blais of Newport; by a brother-in-law, William Riegel, and his wife, Jackie, of Glover; and by several cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, and special friends John and Nancy Pelletier of North Troy. Theodore, "Ted" Perron

, 79, of Greensboro died Monday, December 11, 2006, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury. Mr. Perron was born January 10, 1927, in Greensboro, a son of the late Oscar and Annoncia (Cliche) Perron. He graduated from Greensboro High School in 1945. On May 18, 1985, he married Nan Gerow (Thurmond) Vetter at St. Michael's Church in Greensoro Bend. He operated the family-owned Perron-MacNeil Dairy Farm in Greensboro for many years, working each day until his health failed on July 22. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Greensboro Bend, Knights of Columbus Brownson Council No. 1568 in Hardwick, the Greensboro Historical Society, and the Buffalo Mountain Dancers. He enjoyed feeding the fish in his pond, gardening, mowing his large lawn, round and square dancing, and visiting with family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Nan, sister Ida Perron, sister-in-law LaurettePerron, niece Alice Perron, and nephew Robert Perron, all of Greensboro, and many cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Victor Perron, on June 11, 1997. A Memorial Mass was celebrated December 14 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Greensboro Bend with the Reverend John Hamilton as celebrant. Burial followed in St. Michael's Cemetery.

, 40, of North Troy died suddenly in Newport on Saturday, December 16, 2006. Mr. Hamill was born in Kenab, Utah, on July 22, 1966, a son of Daniel and Beverly Hamill. He served in the U.S. Army. He worked as an installation foreman for Fred's Plumbing and Heating. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a member of the National Rifle Association. On December 30, 1988, he married Robin Bean, who survives him. He is survived by his sons Joshua and Travis Bean of North Troy; by his grandchildren: Madison Bordeau, Kyah Bean, and Makenna Bean; by his parents, Daniel and Beverly Hamill, of Silver City, New Mexico; by his brothers Robert of Connecticut and Daniel of the U.S. Army; by his sisters: Kathy, Becky, and Debbie; by his parents-in-law, Niles and Yolande Bean, of North Troy; by his sisters-in-law: Tina Pare and her husband, Mike, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Julie Healy and her husband, Mike, of Barton, and Kim Cole of Derby Line; and by nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. Funeral services were held at a Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Newport December 20 with the Reverend Yvon Royer officiating. Michael Richard Danforth

, 59, of Auburn, Maine, died of cardiac arrest at Tampa General Hospital in Florida on December 8, 2006. His eldest son, Michael II, and his childhood sweetheart and longtime companion, June Chartier, were at his side. Mr. Danforth was born February 15, 1947, in Lewiston, Maine, a son of Beverly Malia and Sydney Danforth. He was raised by foster parents Sue and Donald Kenney of Auburn. He attended Auburn schools and the University of Maine. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He lived in Barton for many years and was on the board of selectmen. He returned to Auburn and had been the service advisor at Delekto Brothers, Incorporated, for the past few years. He enjoyed his friends at American Legion Post No. 153 in Auburn and especially their fishing trips to Jackman, Maine. He collected friends as easily as he did his hats. He will be missed by the many people who enjoyed his company, humor, and laugh. He is survived by his children: son Michael II of Old Town, twin daughters Megan and Morgan, and son Eric and daughter Shannon of Vermont; by his grandson Michael III of Lewiston; by cousin Donna Doyon and her husband, Larry, of Minot, Maine; and by many siblings. He was predeceased by his parents; by his foster parents; and by his foster brother Arthur Kenney. A celebration of his life will be held at the Sixth Street Church in Auburn on Saturday, December 23, at 4 p.m. Family and friends are encouraged to stay and socialize after the service. Interment will be held at the Pine Street Cemetery in Auburn in the spring. , 56, of Island Pond died peacefully December 15, 2006, in Rome, Georgia. Mr. Barney was born February 19, 1950, in Island Pond, a son of Linwood and Beulah (Darnell) Barney. He loved reading the Bible, singing Christian songs, and watching NASCAR races. He is survived by his siblings: Butch Barney and his wife, Jocelyne, of Island Pond, Wayne Barney of Island Pond, Wanda Ovitt and her husband, Alan, of Lithia Spring, Georgia, and Goldie Mae Buffi and her husband, Frank, of Brownington; by his aunt Goldie Coville of Island Pond; by nieces and nephews: Shawnda O'Keefe and her husband, Roger, of Ferdinand, Robbie Leigh of Lithia Spring, Bernard Barney of Connecticut, Frankie Buffi and Lance Buffi of Brownington, and Terrie Ann Walker and her husband, Ted, Cynthia Bowen, Renee Walker, Daniel Walker, Bradley Walker, Brandon Bowen, and Joshua Bowen, all of Georgia; and by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
