, 68, of Newport died in Newport on Thursday, April 13, 2006. Mr. Marandola was born in Sanford, Maine, on February 15, 1938, a son of Leo and Sylvia (Perron) Marandola. He served in the Vermont National Guard and worked for Ethan Allen in Orleans for 15 years. He was a member of St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church and the Eagles Club Fraternal Order No. 4329. He enjoyed playing cards and guitar. On October 26, 1969, he married Ruby Hagstrom, who survives him. He is also survived by his children: Susan Bissonnette, Michael Marandola, and Craig Marandola, all of Newport; by his grandchildren: Toni Coon of Newport, Ann Bissonnette of Rutland, and Jeremy Lighty of Pennsylvania; by his brothers Richard Marandola and his wife, Cheryl, of St. Johnsbury and Ronnie Marandola of Newport; and by his niece and nephews: Nicholas, Aaron, and Brittney Marandola. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 20, at the Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Funeral Home on Darling Hill Road in Newport at 1 p.m. with the Reverend Yvon Royer officiating. , 79, of Island Pond, devoted husband and loving father, died suddenly April 15, 2006, at his home. Mr. Littlefield was born November 13, 1926, in Lisbon Falls, Maine, a son of Alden and Mildred (Tyler) Littlefield. On March 21, 1945, he married Clara E. "Betty" Bryson, who predeceased him on August 9, 1995. He was a Border Patrol inspector and retired from U.S. Immigration after 32 years of service. He attended Aviation Engine School for two weeks in 1943, just prior to entering the U.S. Navy on November 30, 1943. He was enlisted until October 3, 1947. He re-enlisted in the U.S. Navy Fleet Band from January 2, 1948, to August 3, 1949, with an honorable discharge after he served in many combat missions as a gunner on a quad 40 gun. He was a thirty-second degree Mason and life member of the Oak Lodge of Free Masons in Illinois. He was a member of the Temple of the Shriners in Lewiston, Maine. He held membership with Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 798 of Newport and the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed photography. He is survived by a daughter, Peggy Lee; by a son, Alden "Bud" Littlefield, of Island Pond and his partner, Terry Gray, of East Haven; by two granddaughters, Sheila Moran and her husband, Mike, and their children of Burke, Virginia, and Jessica Nicely and her husband, Dave, and their children of Gilbert, Arizona; by a sister, Arlene Dehetre, of Auburn, Maine; by a nephew, Randy Dehetre, of Auburn; and by a niece, Brenda Moss, and her husband, Dave, of Maine. , 66, died suddenly at his home in Newport Center on Sunday, April 16, 2006. Mr. Percy was born April 18, 1939, in Newport, a son of Willie and Alice (Bishop) Percy. On September 26, 1964, he married Lorraine Domina, who survives him. He was employed for many years by Columbia Forest Products. He retired on January 3, 2005. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, watching deer and turkeys on his back lawn, four-wheeling with his grandchildren, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Newport Center Fire Department for several years. Mrs. McMartin grew up in Lockport, New York, attended Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, raised her family in West Hartford, Connecticut, and retired to Sarasota. She spent some of her best times at her summer home on Willoughby Lake in Westmore. She was a uniquely wonderful woman with a playful sense of fun and adventure. Her incredibly optimistic outlook on life and thoughtful, generous spirit deeply touched all who knew her, especially her husband, Jim; her children: Judy, Carol, and Jim; her grandchildren: Carol, Marty, Lory, Ian, and Heather; and her great-grandchildren Jason and Dylan.

She was the former owner of Brooksie's Restaurant and Catering Service in Sharon. She was an avid deer hunter. , 63, of Newport died in Newport on Tuesday, April 11, 2006. Mr. Bowen was born in Newport on October 7, 1942, a son of Merrick J. and Gladys (Willey) Bowen. He worked for New England Telephone and Scott's Construction. He owned and operated Bowen's Taxi Service for many years. He was a school board member in Woodbury for five years, a Newport City Council alderman for five years, a volunteer firefighter for the Woodbury Fire Department, and a North Country Union High School special education bus driver from 1988 to 1991. He was also a member of the J.C.s, and the Telephone Pioneers. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and traveling through Vermont to see different areas. On December 21, 1963, he married Donna M. Percy, who survives him. , 83, of White River Junction died Tuesday, April 11, 2006, surrounded by her family, at Brookside Nursing Home in Wilder. Mrs. Jacobs was born on July 15, 1922, in Berlin, a daughter of Viola (Cobaskie) and Daniel Guyette. She attended the Berlin Corners School and St. Michael's High School in Montpelier. She worked for the Reddy Plastic Company in Montpelier, Ethan Allen in Orleans, and Spilt Balling Bearing in Lebanon, New Hampshire. On January 5, 1943, she married Orerson "Jake" Jacobs in Barre. Mr. Jacobs predeceased her on September 10, 1993. She was a member of the former Berlin Grange, North Thetford Federated Church, Home Dem, and Frolicking Mermaid Red Hat Society. Survivors include daughter Brenda Magoon of North Thetford; three grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her infant daughter Patricia; and by siblings: Millard Guyette, LeRoyGuyette, Harold Guyette, Ellsworth Goucher, CleyonGoucher, Irene Cross, Evelyn Anderson, Doris Barclay, Marion McQueen, Peg Stevens, Katherine Hill, and Iva Wagner. Raymond Erwin Grimes

, 77, of Hardwick, a retired dairy farmer, died Thursday, April 13, 2006, at Copley Hospital in Morrisville. Mr. Grimes was born in Johnson on September 5, 1928, the fifth of 11 children born to Leo and Mildred (Reynolds) Grimes. The family moved to the Brownsville area of Stowe in 1936. For the rest of his life this was his favorite area, whether hunting, picnicing, or just enjoying the mountains and fresh air. On December 24, 1949, he married Elenore Greene. One son, Erwin Arlan Grimes, was born to them. Many foster children were welcome in his home. Three of these children were eventually adopted into the Grimes family. He worked in milk plants for 20 years. His dream from a young child was to own a farm, which he purchased in 1971 in Albany and enjoyed until failing health forced its sale. In 1996 Ray and Elenore moved to their home on Granite Street in Hardwick. For as long as he was able, he spent much of his free time in the woods where he always found pleasure. As his disability progressed, he enjoyed reading, writing, and sorting coins and putting them in books, giving many to children of the family. He recently published a book, A Boy of the Great Depression - My Story, about memories of growing up in difficult times. He was very pleased with calls and comments he received about his story. He leaves his loving wife, Elenore, of Hardwick; and felt very blessed with his four children: Erwin A. Grimes and his wife, Sue, of Craftsbury, James Grimes and his wife, Linda, of Concord, Darlene Ingalls and her husband, Allyn, of Johnson, and Cheryl Grimes of Hardwick. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; by ten great- grandchildren; by two sisters, Erna Bartlett and Rachel Colbeth, both of Greensboro Bend; by two brothers, Merton Grimes of Hardwick and Kenneth Grimes of Morrisville; and by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers: Arlan, Bernard, and Richard Grimes; and by three sisters: Etta Grimes and Phyllis and Lolita Putvain. , 86, of Columbia, New Hampshire, died early Tuesday morning, April 11, 2006, at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook, New Hampshire. Mrs.Frizzell was born November 1, 1919, in Sugar Hill, New Hampshire, daughter of the late Scott and Bertha (Hutchinson) Jesseman. She attended school in Canaan, graduating in 1937. She married her husband, Kenneth E. Frizzell, on September 16, 1939. She was primarily a homemaker, but worked at the Gilman Paper Company and in Littleton at Profile Cleaners and the Littleton Shoe Shop. She and her husband owned and operated the Little Country Store in Danby Four Corners and the Brownington Country Store. She was a lifetime member of the Mohawk Grange for over 70 years and a member of the Upper Coos Pomona Grange and was affiliated with the Stratford Grange. Her interests included crocheting, knitting, tatting, and quilting, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She is survived by two sons, Robert Frizzell and wife, Audrey, and Kenneth Frizzell Jr. and wife, Grace, all of East Charleston; by four daughters: Edie Jones and husband, Gary, of Riviera Beach, Florida, Joan Henry and husband, Charles, of Claremont, New Hampshire, Carol Bolduc and husband, Henry, of Haverhill, Massachusetts, and Genie Davis and husband, Martin of East Charleston; by a brother, Eddie Jesseman, of Haverhill, New Hampshire; by 21 grandchildren; by 28 great-grandchildren; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents; by her loving husband of 61 years, Kenneth E. Frizzell; by a brother, Fred Jesseman; and by a sister, Edith Wells. , 81, of Glover died April 21, 2006, in Newport. Ms. Putney was born October 29, 1924, in Montpelier, a daughter of Murley and Marion (Hoffman) Putney. She attended school in Barre and Graniteville and graduated from Montpelier High School in 1942. During World War II she worked as a government inspector at Bell Aircraft in Burlington. In 1945 she was accepted at Wilfred Academy in Boston. Upon graduation in 1947 she moved to Glover and operated a beauty shop until 1976. In 1948 she was appointed assistant treasurer for the town of Glover and served 25 years. In 1952 she was elected Glover town clerk. She had served for 35 years when she retired in 1987. She was assistant treasurer of the Orleans County Fair Association for 13 years and was secretary and treasurer for the Glover Public Library for 24 years. She was the town agent for 17 years. She was elected town treasurer in 1972 and served for 15 years. She was a member of the Glover Planning Commission. She held membership with the Vermont Association of Town Clerks and Treasurers and the New England Association of Municipal Clerks and Treasurers. She was a member of the Glover Historical Society and the Glover Community Church. She enjoyed stamp and coin collecting, carving miniature ducks, gardening, bird watching, and listening to music. She is survived by several nieces and nephews: Gail Putney of Elmore, Mary Rose Putney of Williamstown, Carol Martin of Lebanon, New Hampshire, Connie Putney of Northfield, Roland Putney and his wife, Linda, of Websterville, Ronald Putney and his wife, Donna, of East Barre, Harold Murley Putney Jr. of Southbury, Paul Putney and his wife, Lynn, of Barre, Robert Putney and his wife, Amber, of Williamstown, Richard Putney of Williamstown, and Daniel Martin and his wife, Linda, of Lebanon; by a sister-in-law, Kay Putney, of Websterville; by several cousins; and by a sister, Winnifred Martin, of Williamstown. Harold J. Haynes

, 87, of North Troy died peacefully in Newport on Wednesday, April 19, 2006, in the arms of his family. He joined his wife, Dorothy, who died December 20, 1997. Mr. Haynes was born in Poultney on October 31, 1918, a son of Harold E. and Lydia (Wiesner) Haynes. On August 11, 1940, he married Dorothy Toof, who predeceased him in 1997. He was a 1939 graduate of the University of Vermont. He owned and operated Haynes Real Estate in North Troy since 1954. He held memberships with the Orleans County Board of Realtors, the Vermont Association of Realtors, and the National Association of Realtors. He and his wife owned and operated Dot's Shop in North Troy. He held many offices for the town of North Troy, and his contributions to the community were endless. With the Kiwanis Club in Troy, he was one of the founding fathers and the first president of Jay Peak Resort and was honored last year at the fiftieth anniversary of the mountain. He was a current member of the North Troy Planning Commission, a member of the First Congregational Church of North Troy since he moved there, and a member of the North Troy Masonic Lodge for 65 years. He held offices with the Vermont State Chapter of Future Farmers of America and taught vocational agriculture at North Troy High School and Newport Center schools from 1939 to 1967. He then taught horticulture and vocational agriculture at North Country Union High School and taught vocational skills such as welding, woodworking, and public speaking to area students. With the agricultural department, he created the land lab on the Quarry Road, where he helped to acquire the land and plant the trees for students to study and sell as Christmas trees. He was the founder of the North Troy tennis program. He formed the Tri-town Natural Resource Committee and created the North Troy walking trail along the Missisquoi River. He was active in Tranquil Gardens, in which he was instrumental in acquiring the land and getting it started. He oversaw the beautification of the village of North Troy. He was a big help to his granddaughter at theB&D Grocery Store in North Troy for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his early days and trapping. Four titles could be used to describe him: advisor to everyone, a naturalist, a creator, and an optimist. His motto was "appreciate life and live it to the fullest." He is survived by his daughter Karleen Haynes Denton and her husband, Roland, of North Troy; by his grandchildren CrisChoquette and her husband, Randy, of North Troy and Terri Medley and her husband, Doug, of North Troy; by his great-grandchildren: Monica and Bryan Choquette and Aaron, Andrew and Derek Medley; by his brother Richard Haynes and his wife, Florence, of Poultney; and by his sister Evelyn Monroe and her husband, Charles, of Poultney. He was predeceased by an infant sister, Ruth Marie Haynes; and by a sister-in-law, Barbara Haynes. Russell R. Decker

, 93, of Barre, formerly of Craftsbury, died April 19, 2006, at his home. Mr. Decker was born in Arlington, Nebraska, on September 24, 1912, a son of Roy and Hattie (Bump) Decker. He entered the U.S. Army from Camp Upton, New York, on March 13, 1942. He served as an assistant squad leader with the 307th Infantry, 77th Division in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during World War II. Wounded in service to his country, his discharge was from Rhoads General Hospital in Utica, New York, on January 4, 1946. Sergeant Decker's awards included the World War II Victory Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, a Purple Heart, and the Good Conduct Medal. He later made his home in Mill Village in Craftsbury where he operated a goat farm for many years. He enjoyed trading goats, crops, or any other items for things he needed. He is remembered as a regular participant of the WDEV Trading Post. In October 1996 he sold his farm and moved to Cobble Hill in Barre. A very religious man, he was a member of the United Church of God. He leaves a brother, Clyde Decker, of Lincoln, Nebraska, and other extended family. He was predeceased by two brothers, Earl and Clarence Decker; and by a sister, Violet. A funeral service was held April 25 at the Davis Funeral Home in Craftsbury Common, with Paul Suckling, pastor of the United Church of God in Shewsbury, Massachusetts, officiating. Interment followed in the Albany Village Cemetery. , 93, a former resident of Craftsbury, died at the Westwood Health Care Center in Keene, New Hampshire, on Saturday, April 22, 2006. Mr. Anderson was born in Glover on August 24, 1912, a son of Lynn and Fannie (Scott) Anderson. He attended elementary school in Glover and in 1936 married AliceArchambault in Barton. She died in 1940. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from July 1942 to October 1945. He received training at the Casey Jones School of Aeronautics in Newark, New Jersey. He was assigned to the air base in Karachi, India, as part of the Asiatic-Pacific Theater campaign and in the Persian Gulf as an airplane and engine mechanic. He returned to Vermont where he farmed and worked as a handyman. He later restored wood furniture, specializing in antique oak. He enjoyed trout fishing on the Branch and Lamoille rivers and playing the fiddle. He leaves three sons: Glendon Anderson Jr. and his wife, Patricia, of Del Rio, Texas, David Anderson and his wife, Gertrude, of Dayton, Minnesota, and Thomas Anderson and his wife, Anna Mary, of Craftsbury; four daughters: Betty Treadwell and her husband, Clarence, of Alstead, New Hampshire, Laura Phillips and her husband, Mike, of Northfield, Luanne Laird and her husband, Thomas, of Roxbury, and Linda Hough and her husband, Clifford, of Barre; one brother, Earl Anderson, of Pike, New Hampshire; four sisters: Hazel Wendelburg of Florida, Grace Morey of Florida, Bernice Rowell of Manchester, New Hampshire, and Rebecca Cram of Florida; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She attended elementary school while boarding at St. Paul's Convent School in Barton. She went on to our Lady of Grace Catholic Academy in Manchester, New Hampshire, while working at St. Philomena Home for retired ladies, conducted by the Sisters of Mercy. On August 30, 1937, she married Gerald "Joe" Ryan. They settled on a dairy farm in Derby where they spent many happy years with their children. Mr. Ryan predeceased Mrs. Ryan on March 13, 1989. She was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church in Derby Line. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, and folding the bulletins for St. Edward's and St. Benedict's churches. She taught Sunday school for many years. She is survived by a daughter, Margaret "Peggy" Moulton, and her husband of Coventry; by a son, Michael John Ryan, of Shaftsbury; by nine grandchildren: Vicky Whitehill and her husband, Jerry, of Morgan, Shane Moulton and his wife, Juanita, of Irasburg, William "Billy" Moulton of Coventry, Chastity DeRohen and her husband, Michael, of Derby, Charity Moulton of Coventry, Gerald Wright of Claremont, New Hampshire, and Kathryn, Courtney, and Johnathan Ryan, all of Bennington; by five great-grandchildren: Joseph Whitehill, Danielle Whitehill, Justin Derohen, Kyle Moulton, and Ryan Moulton; by two sisters, Velma Blais of Pembroke, New Hampshire, and Mona Hollis of Pittsburg, New Hampshire; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Wright; and by a sister, Jean Perkins. Funeral services were held April 26 at St. Edward's Catholic Church with the Reverend Yvon Royer celebrating a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment followed in St. Edward's Catholic Cemetery in Derby Line.
