Ms. LaRue was born May 30, 1957, in Springfield, Massachusetts, a daughter of Robert and Geraldine (Glasson) LaRue. She was a mill worker at Wausau Paper Mill in Groveton, New Hampshire. She was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and took great pride in Native American values and cultures. She is survived by her sons Shawn LaRue of Chicopee, Massachusetts, and Michael Edwards of New Hampshire; by her sister Glenda LaRue of Chicopee; by her lifelong friends: Bruce Rolfe of Island Pond, Donna Vickery, and Debbie Bartula; by other dear friends; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; by her brother Thomas LaRue; by her sister Rhonda Larue; and by her beloved Cheyenne.

, 71, died at her home in Craftsbury, Tuesday, June 27, 2006, in the loving care of her family. Born in Essex Center on March 17, 1935, Mrs. LaPoint was the daughter of Harold and Antonia (Pouliot) Pecor. She attended schools in Canada and Burlington. On January 15, 1955, she married Richard LaPoint. They moved from Fletcher to Craftsbury where they purchased a dairy farm. Together they operated the dairy farm until they sold it in the late 1970s. She worked several years at Willey's Store in Greensboro until she was forced to retire for health reasons. She enjoyed her family, flowers, quilting, knitting, watercolor painting, and playing softball. Besides her husband, Richard LaPoint, she leaves four sons: Stuart and his wife, Sheila, Clifford and his wife, Karen, Raymond and his wife, Jennifer, all of Craftsbury, and Daniel of LaGrande, Oregon; ten grandchildren; and many extended family members. She was predeceased by her parents; and by a son, Nathan. A Funeral Mass was celebrated July 1 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church with the Reverend John Hamilton as celebrant. Interment followed in the theBinghamville Cemetery in Fletcher. , 57, of Craftsbury died Tuesday, June 27, 2006, at Copley Hospital in Morrisville. Son of William Heinchon and the late Pearl Williams Heinchon, Mr. Heinchon was a school bus driver for Wildcat Busing in Hardwick until his disability. Besides his father, Bill, of Craftsbury, he leaves two brothers, Richard of California and Jamie of Oklahoma. A memorial service was held at the Davis Funeral Home in Craftsbury Common July 3 with the Reverend Ben Thurber officiating.

, 40, of Corinth died tragically Saturday, June 24, 2006. Mr. Fortunati was born November 3, 1965, in Revere, Massachusetts, to Robert A. Fortunati and Mary F. Lincoln. He was a 1984 graduate of Oxbow High School. He was an excellent high school athlete in track and field and skiing. After graduating high school, he worked as a self-employed carpenter and painter. He enjoyed camping, kayaking, hiking, and many other outdoor activities. He was very close to nature. His interests were in reading and learning about other countries, cultures, and places. He enjoyed cooking, classical music, and art. He was a very warm, caring, and gentle person. He is survived by his father, Robert A. Fortunati, and his wife, Susan, of Corinth; by his mother, Mary F. Lincoln, of Winchester, Massachusetts; by three brothers: Robert J. Fortunati and his wife, Lynne, of Coventry and Mark and Anthony Fortunati of Winchester; by a stepbrother, Jody Larabee, of Enfield, New Hampshire; by a stepsister, Tracy Green, of Bradford; by two children, Adam and Andrea Fortunati, of Strafford; by his nephew Colby Fortunati; by two nieces, Jillian and JulietaFortunati; and by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Funeral services were held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Bradford July 3 with burial following at the family lot in Corinth. , 73, of Derby died in Newport on Wednesday, June 28, 2006, on a very special day, his and his wife's fifty-third anniversary. Mr. Maxwell was born in New Brunswick on May 19, 1933, a son of Harold and Evalyne (Newland) Maxwell. He served ten years in the Canadian Army. He was an entrepreneur and took great joy in starting new businesses. For 15 years he owned the Coventry Grocery Store. He then owned Gordon's Sanitary Engineering for three years and a redemption center for one year. He had a lunch wagon and traveled to auctions and horse shows with it. He then owned the Coventry Diner for five years, which was his pride and joy. Before his retirement, he owned another lunch wagon that he traveled with and stationed on the Derby Road. He worked at many places on construction throughout his life. In the last years of his life he drove to auctions for Key Auto Sales of Derby. He was a member of the Masonic Union Lodge of Irasburg and the Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks in Newport. He enjoyed going back and forth to Florida and keeping friendships in both places. He also enjoyed cooking and attending the Derby Senior Meals. On June 28, 1953, he married the former BerdenaMacie, who survives him. He is also survived by his children: Rhonda Lee Whipple of St. Johnsbury, Barry Ross Maxwell of Derby, and Kimberly Choquette and her husband, Dennis, of Derby; by his grandchildren: Ashley Hutchson, Lynsay Whipple, Ryan Whipple, Jami Maxwell, Sean Maxwell, Cody Maxwell, Matthew Choquette, and Derek Choquette; by his great-grandchildren: AnisthasaHutchson and Luci, Alex, Samuel, Olive, and Benjamin Maxwell; and by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters Gloria and Joyce. Funeral services were held July 1 at a Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Newport with the Reverend Fred Barker officiating. , 58, of Barton passed away at his home on Sunday, July 9, 2006. He was born in Quincy, Massachusetts, on January 21, 1948, the son of William and Myrtle (LeVange) McCormack. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a veteran of Vietnam. Mr. McCormack liked to fish, garden and work on his vehicles. He also liked watching football and baseball. He loved his cats. Mr. McCormack is survived by his companion, Sandra Wells of Barton; by his son James McCormack Jr. and his wife, Kandee, of Massachusetts; by his daughter Shira McCormack of Massachusetts; by his grandchildren: Makenzie McCormack, Stephen McCormack and Julia O'Connor, all of Massachusetts; by his sisters, Christine Corey and her husband, Joseph, of Rutland, and Marsha McCormack of Island Pond; and by six nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 15, at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Barton at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Daniel Rupp officiating. , 84, of Holland, beloved husband of Cecile Fortin, died July 8, 2006, surrounded by his family. He was born on April 4, 1922, in Derby a son of Philip and Merilda (Poulin) Fortin. On October 21, 1944, he married Cecile Letourneau who survives him. They had a wonderful marriage of 62 years. Mr. Fortin was a very gentle and kind man, he never once complained or had anything bad to say about anyone. He worked very hard to provide for his family. Family, farming and church were very important to him. Mr. Fortin was a very special person to all who knew and loved him. He will be sadly missed and he was deeply loved by his children and all his special grandchildren. Mr. Fortin owned and operated the family farm "God's Country Farm" with his wife Cecile since 1945. He enjoyed puzzles, singing church hymns and spending time with his grandchildren, farming and maple surgaring with his family, his weekly adoration at St. Edward's Church when he was able, his sawdust route as he loved visiting with friends and clients. He was a member of the St. Edward's Catholic Church in Derby Line. He was a very generous person to many charities. He is survived by his wife, Cecile Fortin of Holland; his children, Francois Fortin and his wife, Adina, of Virginia, Edward Fortin and his wife, Theresa, of Holland, and Doris Essaff and her husband, Tim, of Morgan; and by his grandchildren, Deanna and Christopher Cox, Adrian Fortin, Jessica Burdick, Ernest Fortin, Tonya Ashman, Ariel and April Fortin; and great-grandchildren, Oliva and Emma Fortin, Riley Burdick, Haley and Maison Fortin, Alyssa and Bryant Ashman; and by many godchildren, by a brother Roland Fortin of Derby and Gerald of Meriden, Connecticut. He was predeceased by his daughter Lucy Fortin in 1989; and by brothers, Jules, Gerald, Louis, Joseph, Albert, and John Fortin, and by sisters, Cora Blais, AlbinaBrodeur, Sr. Julianne Fortin, and Albertine Amyot. , 53, died Saturday, July 8, 2006, at his home in Brunswick, Maine, after a courageous and faith-filled journey with cancer. He was born in Newport, Vermont, on April 23, 1953, a son of Stanley and LauretteRondeau Tweed. He was raised in Newport and graduated from Sacred Heart High School. He received his bachelor of science degree in sociology from Castelton State College in Castelton. He moved to Waterville, Maine, in 1991 and earned his master of business administration degree from Thomas College. In 1996, Mr. Tweed moved to Yarmouth, Maine, where he continued working for Key Bank. He moved to Brunswick in 1999. He was active in St. Charles Borromeo Church, Habitat for Humanity and mentoring programs for children. At the time of his diagnosis, Mr. Tweed was pursuing graduate studies at the University of Southern Maine for a new career as an elementary school guidance counselor. He married Marie Barbieri on October 9, 1999, at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Brunswick in a beautiful ceremony that brought together family and friends from around the world. On February 2, 2005, he met his 14-month-old daughter whom Marie and Lionel adopted from China. He is survived by his wife, Marie Barbieri, and his precious daughter, Emma Ai Tweed of Brunswick; his mother, Laurette Tweed, two brothers, Allan and Brian Tweed, his nephew and godson Zachary Tweed, and niece and goddaughter Erica Tweed, all of Newport. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, July 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal Street, Brunswick. , 72, of Derby Line died peacefully July 7, 2006, at her home in Derby Line. She was born April 22, 1934, in Lynn, Massachusetts, a daughter of Eina and Marjorie (Killim) Rund. On March 12, 1956, she married Thomas Sprague who survives her. Mrs. Sprague graduated from Dorchester Girls High School of Dorchester, Massachusetts. She was a volunteer at the Derby United Church. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Sprague of Derby Line, and by four children: Holly Picardi of Stoughton, Massachusetts, Shirley Sprague of Roslindale, Massachusetts, Thomas J. Sprague Jr. of Weymouth, Massachusetts, and Jeff Sprague of Braintree, Massachusetts. She is also survived by seven grandchildren; by a sister, Carol Power of Derby Line; by a brother, Russell Rund of Weymouth, Massachusetts; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two children, Cindy Forest and Kenney Sprague, and by a brother, Ronald Rund. Funeral services were scheduled for Monday, July 10. , 86, died Sunday, July 2, 2006, at Maple Lane Nursing Home in Barton. Mr. Loomis was born August 3, 1919, in Albany, a son of Andrew and Lillian (Emerson) Loomis. After attending grade school in Albany, he worked on local farms. In 1944 was inducted into the U.S. Navy and served his country, serving in the American Theater. He married Ruth Colburn, who died in 1969. He worked construction throughout New England during his younger life and later as an electrician until his retirement. He was a 50-year member of American Legion Post No. 76, where he was a past post commander; a 50-year Mason with Orleans Lodge No. 55 in Barton, where he was a past master; and a member of the Barton-Orleans Fish and Game Club. For most of his life, "Dunk" enjoyed spending hours hunting the woods and fishing the lakes and streams of Vermont. He leaves three sons: Gayland Loomis of Derby Line, Howard Loomis and his wife, Marlene, of Colchester, and Durward Loomis Jr. of St. Albans; two grandsons, Mark and Scott Loomis; great-grandchildren: Christopher, Courtney, and Alexander; by a brother, Ralph Loomis, of North Clarendon; by a sister, Louella Reese, of Fair Haven; and by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife and mother of his children, Ruth; and by a special companion, Clarabelle Conley, who died in 1997. A memorial service was held July 9 at the United Church of Barton with the Reverend Gerry Piper officiating. Interment followed in Westlook Cemetery in Glover. Emerson M. Humphrey

died peacefully at home on Sunday, July 2, 2006, surrounded by family and friends, at the age of 82, following a long, brave battle with cancer. Mr. Humphrey was born in Dixville, Quebec, on July 30, 1923, to Ella and Frank Humphrey. He served as a captain in the Royal Canadian Air Force and was stationed in England from 1942 to 1944. In 1942 his aircraft was shot down. He spent four months in a military hospital in England with, among other injuries, a broken back. As soon as possible he returned, flying his beloved Halifax and Lancaster aircraft until the end of the war. After returning from England, he opened a photography studio in Lennoxville, Quebec. He married Ruth Bowen on June 5, 1948, in Hatley, Quebec. He spent his early career with Southern Canada Power as a general sales manager until moving to Newport to join Citizens Utilities in 1963. He owned and operated Quality Appliances in Newport until his retirement. Throughout the years he was actively involved in his community. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Kiwanis Club, and the Masonic Lodge in Canada. Of all his accomplishments, he is probably most proud of his affiliation to the Border Curling Club. He was a founding member and its first president in 1955. In October 2005, he helped plan and celebrate its fiftieth anniversary. He has been an active curler, an involved board member, and an integral part of keeping the curling spirit alive and growing. He started a bocce club with many of his curling friends, which started at his home and soon grew to other communities in the U.S. and Canada. He loved to travel and enjoyed life in general. He is survived by his daughter Karen Dwyer and her husband, James, of Larkspur, Colorado; by his son David and his friend, Jane Davis, of Craftsbury; by a grandson, Nicholas, of North Troy; and by a lengthy list of family and friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth; and by his brother Albert. His kind heart and joyful spirit will live on. A memorial service was held July 9 at the Border Curling Club with the Reverend Barbara Windel officiating. Interment will take place at a later date at Pine Grove Cemetery in Newport. , 72, of Derby Line, beloved wife of William Gannon, died July 2, 2006, in Newport. Mrs. Bumps-Gannon was born on March 8, 1934, in Woodstock, a daughter of Elmer and Mildred (Hathorne) Bumps. She was a nurse for North Country Hospital in Newport for many years. On December 21, 1968, she married William Gannon, who survives her. She enjoyed playing cribbage and working in her vegetable garden. She always enjoyed the love and companionship of her dog Jill. When she retired after 27 years at North Country Hospital she continued to stop by, lend a helping hand, or just visit with members of her hospital family. She is survived by her husband, William Gannon, of Derby Line; by her daugher Meg Gannon and her fiancé, Peter Galli; and by nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her son Michael Gannon; by three brothers: Warren, Roger, and Raymond Bumps; and by a sister, Elizabeth Foster. Funeral services were held July 7 at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Derby Line with the Reverend Karl Mahr celebrating a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment followed at Riverside Cemetery in Woodstock. , who spent most of his life in Lowell, Vermont, died on July 8, 2006, at the age of 83 with his loving family by his side. He was born on June 22, 1923, a son of Eddie and Alma (Cross) Dolan. Mr. Dolan attended Peoples Academy and later graduated from Vermont Technical College. He married the former Shirlene Warner on December 27, 1945, in the village of Lowell. They had three children: Andrea Fournier and her husband, Philip, of Morrisville, Daphne Christiansen and her husband, Keith, of Lowell, and their son Byron of Hoboken, New Jersey. They have four grandchildren: Michael Dudley and his wife, Phyllis, Peter Dudley and his wife, Debbie, Erin Boxer and her husband, Andrew, and Kelly Ochs and her husband, Chris. The Dolans have eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Dolan worked for 38 years at the asbestos mine in Lowell. He served on the Lowell school board for several years and then as Lowell's representative on the North Country Union High School Board in Newport. After retirement he and Shirlene enjoyed winters in Florida, first in Bradenton and later in Floral City. During the summer months they ran the Eden Notch Antiques Barn. Later in life, they were instrumental in creating the Lowell Historical Society. Mr. Dolan spent the last two years of his life in Sterling View Retirement Community in Hyde Park. A graveside service will take place in the Lowell Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 6. Friends and family are invited afterwards to the home of Daphne and Keith Christiansen. , 97, of Jericho died peacefully on Wednesday, July 5, 2006. Ms. Chadburn was born on June 6, 1909, in Irasburg, a daughter of Walter and Ethel (Flint) Chadburn. She graduated from Barton Academy in 1927 and the University of Vermont in 1931. For more than 30 years she worked at the University of Vermont (UVM) College of Medicine and School of Dental Hygiene. An expert skier and star basketball player, she taught tennis at UVM for several summers. Retiring from UVM in 1974, she moved from Burlington to Jericho to the house she built overlooking Mount Mansfield. There, in the company of her beloved dogs Flint, Sissy, and J.B., she lived off the land, socially active and independent. She was a member of the Shelburne Episcopal Church. She leaves her nieces and nephews: Marian C. Valenta and her husband, Dr. Joseph R. Valenta, of Wayne, Pennsylvania, Beryl E. Norris of South Pasadena, Florida, Gloria May Stoddard of Newport, Gordon C. Chadburn and his wife, Linda, of Irasburg, Wayne C. Chadburn and his wife, Carla, of Irasburg, Janet I. Lawson and her husband, Robert, of Irasburg, Beverly Wilkinson and her husband, John, of Lunenberg, Marilyn Borst of Deltona, Florida, and Vivian Hovey of Concord; many great-nieces and -nephews; and many beloved friends, neighbors, and caregivers in the Jericho area. , 61, died at her home in Irasburg on the morning of July 13, 2006, in the loving care of her family. She was born in Barton, May 28, 1945, the daughter of Clare and Barbara (Lanou) Phillips. She attended school in Irasburg and graduated from Orleans High School in 1963. She attended Johnson State College. In 1966 she married Linwood "Pete" Chase. Together they made their home in Irasburg. Mrs. Chase was the librarian at the Leach Library in Irasburg for many years and also had been a daycare provider. She also was a substitute at the Irasburg Post Office for several years. A supporter of the community in church and civic activities, she served as an officer of the Irasburg Water Corporation as well as a lister, school director, and health officer. Besides her husband, "Pete," she leaves a son, Bradley Chase, and his wife, Laurie, of Irasburg; a brother, Rod Phillips of Irasburg; a grandson, Tanner Amyot of Barton; a niece, Martha Perron; and a nephew, Michael Phillips. A funeral service was scheduled for Monday, July 17, at Irasburg United Church with the Reverend Herbert Perry and the Reverend Nathan Strong officiating. Interment followed in Irasburg Cemetery. , 87, born November 25, 1918, in Brooklyn, New York, died Sunday, July 9, 2006. Ms. Crane was a resident of the Greensboro Nursing Home, before that, residing at the Craftsbury Community Care Center in East Craftsbury since 1996. She attended P.S. 135 and Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn, the Pratt Institute and received a degree in fashion design. For many years Ms. Crane served as chief designer at the Touraine Company in New York City and as the president of the League of Women Voters in New Bedford, Massachusetts. Ms. Crane also resided for many years in Woodstock, Bearsville and Kingston, New York. Ms. Crane is survived by her brother, Alvin Bloch of Craftsbury Common and Florida, and by nieces and a nephew: Carol, Nancy, Sally and Michael. A private family graveside service was held on July 10 at the Craftsbury Common Cemetery. No date has been set for a memorial service.
