, 40, of East Hardwick died unexpectedly Friday, January 27, 2006, at the Copley Hospital in Morrisville. Mr. Spaulding was born July 9, 1965, in Morrisville, a son of Norman and Doris (Carpentier) Spaulding. He attended Peoples Academy in Morrisville. He was first employed as a farmhand at several farms in Morrisville. He worked for ten years for Miller Egg Farm in Morrisville, Top Notch in Stowe for three years, and for more than 11 years as an auto mechanic at the Craftsbury Garage. He recently was a heavy equipment mechanic for Tibbits Equipment in Underhill. He enjoyed the time that he spent with his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and racing. Survivors include his parents, Doris and Norman Spaulding, of Hyde Park; his longtime companion, Barbara Keene, of East Hardwick and her children Kory Keene and his wife, Terra, of Hyde Park and Kevin Keene and his fiancée, Brandy, of Wolcott; two brothers, Ernest Spaulding of Williamstown and Edward Spaulding and his wife, Nancy, of Eden; a sister, Nichole Spaulding, and her companion, Brian Vincent, of Newport; four grandchildren: Taylor Keene of Wolcott and Tanner, Jacob, and Ariana Keene of Hyde Park; nieces and nephews: Stephanie Spaulding, Stacey Spaulding, and Leslie Ann Spaulding, stepniece Samantha Parker, and stepnephew Joshua Parker, all of Eden, ShanelleRozeFarnham of Newport, Deirdre Gaye and great-niece Isatou, both of Mukilteo, Washington; and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins. Trace Santos Barber

, 14, of Morrisville and Eden lost his life in a tragic accident on February 6, 2006. Trace was born at home in Burlington on May 6, 1991. A freshman at Peoples Academy in Morrisville, he loved skiing, running, and music, playing bass, guitar, bass horn, and drums. He was a great fan of comedy and did a brilliant imitation of Jim Carrey. He loved to go on roller coasters with his dad, and he helped him build his house. Intuitive and sensitive, he was a complex character and had a keen interest in pop culture. He participated in the Penguin Plunge three years in a row, beginning when he was eight. A natural athlete, he was an excellent downhill skier, doing the wall at Tuckerman Ravine with his brother and stepdad when he was 13 years old. Always open to the larger spiritual questions and answers of life, he recently became an active member of the Vermont Zen Center. He practiced meditation with his mom. They cherished their outings to go shopping and enjoy good food and that quiet time just before lights out in the evening, reviewing the day together. He will be deeply missed by his large and loving family: his father, Scott Barber; mother, Samantha Santos Costello; stepfather, Thomas Costello; three stepbrothers: Ethan, Tyler, and Riley; paternal grandfather, Ken Barber, of West Glover; paternal grandmother, Melba Barber Howland; maternal grandmother, Irene Santos; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Chet Howland; and by his maternal grandfather, James Santos. A Buddhist funeral service was held for Trace at the Puffer United Methodist Church in Morrisville February 9. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Peoples Academy for the Trace Santos Barber Scholarship Fund for the summer mountain biking camp at the Catamount Family Center in Williston.
Carol G. Sumner, formerly Irene Gertrude Hall Mason

, 85, died in Tavaras, Florida, on February 4, 2006, after numerous and lengthy but courageously fought battles with cancer and heart disease. Mrs. Sumner was born August 14, 1921, in Wolcott, a daughter of Harry Hall and Grace Green Hall of Albany. She enjoyed playing bingo, gardening, and eating out. She is survived by six children of her marriages to Chelsia E. Mason, who predeceased her in 1986, and Clarence Sumner, who predeceased her in 1990: Charlotte Holt of Tucson, Arizona, Donna Skinner, Donald Mason, and Rebecca Ross of Albany, Monte Mason of Morrisville, and Patricia Catrett of Paisley, Florida; by her very dear companion and friend, Jerry Brazee, of Tavaras; by 22 grandchildren; and by many great-grandchildren. A son, Chelsia I. Mason, predeceased her in 1987; and two grandsons, Thomas Mason and Douglas Mason, predeceased her in 1985. A funeral service was held February 6 at Steverson Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Home in Tavaras followed by interment at Ponceannah Cemetery in Paisley.

, 17, of Derby Line died suddenly February 11, 2006, in Coventry. Daniel was born January 3, 1989, in Colebrook, New Hampshire. He is a son of Brenda Wing Damon and David W. Koslosky. He was a junior at North Country Union High School. He loved working on the computer and playing video games. He was a big fan of the New York Yankees, and he loved his dog Mary Jane. He worked at Deb's Redemption in Derby, and he loved listening to music and spending time with his family and friends. He was well liked and free spirited. He loved spending time with his father in Florida and going tubing on his stepfather's boat. He is survived by his mother, Brenda Wing Damon, and his stepfather, Karl Damon, of Derby Line; by his father, David W. Koslosky, of Florida; by his brother and best friend, Nicholas Wing, who is in the U.S. Navy stationed in San Diego, California; by his brother Jason Urban of Connecticut; by his stepbrother Adam Damon and his fiancée, Shannon, of Stowe; by his stepsister Amanda Starr and her husband, Joseph Starr, of Jay; by his grandmother Nancy Wing-Brockett and stepgrandfather Robert Brockett of Irasburg; by his grandfather Robert Wing and stepgrandmother Patty Wing of Wallingford, Connecticut; by his stepgrandmother Ruth Damon of Barton; by his great-grandfather Howard Clark of Pennsylvania; by his aunt Sharon Chester and her husband, Tim, of Wallingford; by his uncle Bill Wing and his wife, Sue, of Wallingford; and by cousins: Shandi, Bryan, Amanda, and Maegan, all of Wallingford. , 48, of Waterville, Minnesota, died on Thursday, February 9, 2006, at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato, Minnesota. Born on January 14, 1958, in Middlebury, he was a son of Peter and Marlene (Jameson) Clark. He attended Hazen Union School and the New England Culinary Institute. He married Shannon Nicely on September 5, 1992. He was a man who touched many lives. He was a treasure to his family and friends, and he will be sorely missed. He was an executive chef with many accomplishments including working for the D'Amico Brothers in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Cossettas in St. Paul, Minnesota, and owning and operating his own restaurant and catering business in Waterville with his wife, Shannon. A kinder, more generous man is rarely seen. He leaves behind many grief-stricken people with fond memories and gratitude to have been a part of what seems like a brief life. He is survived by his wife, Shannon, of Waterville; by two sons, Jeffrey of Newport and Jimmy of Waterville; by his parents, Peter Clark of Inverness, Florida, and Marlene Clark of Hardwick; by one brother, Michael Clark and his wife, Alicia, of Walden; by two sisters, Lynn Millard and her husband, Jim, of South Hero and Julie Gravel and her husband, Gene, of Graniteville; and by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister, Sheri. On Monday, February 20, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Hardwick, the family will host a celebration of Mr. Clark's life. They ask each person to bring a potluck dish, drinks, and a Pat Clark memory to share. The funeral will be held at St. Norbert's Church in Hardwick on Tuesday, February 21, at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the North Ferrisburgh Cemetery. , 46, of Barton died February 9, 2006, in Barton. Mrs. Wilson graduated from Waterford High School in Connecticut in 1977. She made a career in customer service for Mystic Color Labs, ABC Color, and New Britain Color Photo, all in Connecticut. Always upbeat, she was greatly appreciated by customers, co-workers, and management alike. An avid reader and amateur photographer, she was a member of the Mystic Woman's Book Club. Diagnosed early in life with multiple sclerosis, she finally had to give up her home and life as a single woman. As the disease progressed she moved to Bayview Nursing Home in Waterford and subsequently to Maple Lane Nursing Home in Barton, where she continued to be upbeat and smiling despite her continued poor health. She will be greatly missed by those who knew her and loved her. She was predeceased by her parents, Janet Nebeker and Roy Wilson, of Waterford. She is survived by her brothers Robert Wilson and his wife, Jean, and David Wilson of Waterford; by nieces: Ashley, Rebecca, Kristina, Kerry, and Faith Wilson, all of East Charleston; and by her nephew Jeremy Wilson of Lake Worth, Florida. A memorial service will be conducted at 4 p.m. on Friday, February 17, at St Mark's Episcopal Church in Newport. , 82, of Island Pond died in Newport on Thursday, February 16, 2006. Mr. Vallieres was born in St. Adrienham, Québec, on July 8, 1923, a son of Oldo and Florida (Gagne) Vallieres. He was a self-employed electrical contractor for 40 years. He also owned and operated Vallieres Sporting Goods Store in Island Pond for 15 years. He was a member of the Brighton Fire Department for 25 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid Canadian hockey fan. On July 13, 1945, he married Annette Lapointe, who survives him. He is also survived by his children: Michael Vallieres and his wife, Holly, Lillian Sprague and her husband, Peter, Nicole Tardiff and her husband, Simon, and Alain Vallieres and his fiancée, Evelyn Kinney, all of Island Pond; by his daughter-in-law Becky Bremseth of Morgan; by eight grandchildren; by three great-grandchildren; and by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son GaetanVallieres and by six brothers. A Memorial Mass will be held in the summer at St. James Catholic Church in Island Pond. , 69, of Hardwick died unexpectedly on Monday, February 13, 2006, at the Copley Hospital in Morrisville. Mr. Isham was born February 29, 1936, in Dalton, New Hampshire, a son of the late Rupert L. Isham Sr. and Pauline (Wells) Isham. He attended Craftsbury public schools. In his earlier years he was employed by his father on the family farm in Craftsbury. He later worked for Anair Construction in Hardwick, and for many years he was employed by Cabot Creamery. He retired in 1996. He enjoyed fishing, visiting with friends, and watching traffic on Main Street in Hardwick. Survivors include two brothers, Austin Isham of Duxbury and John Isham of Hardwick; six sisters: Mary Mercier of Hardwick, Rose Richardson of Woodbury, Shirley Hall of Stannard, Bertha Johnson of Woodbury, Evelyn Perry of Hardwick, and Sally Gonyaw of Greensboro Bend; one aunt; one uncle; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his mother, Pauline, in 1982; by his father, Rupert Sr., in 2004; by a sister, Eleanor Papineau; and by four infant brothers. , 72, of Newport died February 17, 2006, in Newport. Mrs. Lantagne was born February 21, 1933, in Troy, a daughter of the late Albert and Imelda (Robillard)Beaudry. On May 23, 1964, she married Lawrence Lantagne, who survives her. She graduated from Community College in Manchester, New Hampshire, where she received an administrative business degree. She was employed at one time for the North Windham Community Hospital in Connecticut. She held membership with St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Newport and the Daughters of Isabella. She was a people person. She volunteered at North Country Hospital for many years. She is survived by her husband, Lawrence Lantagne, of Newport; by a son, Michael Rondeau, of Willimantic, Connecticut; by two grandchildren, Jonathan and Jessica Rondeau; by brothers and sisters: Robert Beaudry and his wife, Patricia, of North Troy, Lorraine Starr and her husband, Durward, of North Troy, Jeannine Kennison of Newport, and Roseanne Brouillard of Massachusetts; by a sister-in-law, Roseanne Beaudry, of Jay; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Gerard Beaudry. Funeral services were held February 22 at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church with the Reverend Phillip Branon celebrating a Mass of Christian Burial. Spring interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
