, 87, of Newport died in Newport on Tuesday, February 28, 2006. Mr. Bish was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on October 30, 1918, a son of Stanley and Aniela (Irzyk) Bish. He worked as a fruit farmer in New Jersey and later was in charge of the thermal cracking unit at the Mobil Oil Refinery in Paulsboro, New Jersey. He is survived by his wife, Sophie (Skulimosky)Bish, of Derby Line; by his children: Peter Bish of Media, Pennsylvania, Judy LoCasale of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, and Chris Bish of New Jersey; and by four grandchildren: Jennifer, Jessica, Jacqueline, and John. A Memorial Mass was celebrated March 6 at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Newport with the Reverend Yvon Royer officiating. A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 10, at St. Bridget's Cemetery in Glassboro, New Jersey, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow. Jeannine Mary Rose Moffett

, 84, formerly of Island Pond, died in Burlington on Tuesday, February 28, 2006. Mrs. Moffett was born November 16, 1921, in Island Pond, a daughter of Emile and Rosalyn (Dupuis) Goulet. On May 28, 1940, she married Donald Moffett, who predeceased her. She was a member of the Island Pond American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed knitting scarves, which gave her much joy to give to friends and strangers. She also enjoyed playing cards with her daughters. She is survived by her daughters: Donna Gould of Colebrook, New Hampshire, Sandra Lawliss and her husband, Donald, of South Burlington, Faye Hopcroft and her husband, Robert, of Brick, New Jersey, and Deborah LeBlanc and Cindy Koehler of Williston, with whom she resided the last few years; by her sisters: Greta Locke of Center Conway, Anita Gilbert of Jay, Maine, and Shirley Goulet of Merritt Island, Florida; by her dear brother, Maurice Goulet, and his wife, Tina, of St. Albans; by 15 grandchildren; by 23 great-grandchildren; by her most loyal friend, Zoe; by many nieces and nephews; and by special friends, Jim and Betty Hinton, whose care and concern allowed her to spend those extra years in her home, and Marcia, for whom she had a great love and always called her other daughter. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter Diane and her sister Simone Thomas. She was cremated. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. James Catholic Church in Island Pond at a later date with burial following at Lakeside Cemetery in Island Pond . ,72, of Newport died suddenly on March 4, 2006, at her home. Mrs. Therrien was born September 19, 1933, in Newport, a daughter of Leo and Blanche (LaFlamme)Camirand. On May 3, 1952, she married Roger Therrien, who predeceased her on July 3, 2005. She was employed by the Newport Daily Express for many years. She enjoyed her many friends and flower gardening. She also enjoyed spending time with her two grandsons. She is survived by two children, Randy Therrien and his friend, Linda Kriesel, of Phoenix, Arizona, and Bonnie Joyal and her husband, Richard, of Derby; by two grandsons, Derek and Dana Joyal; by the following nieces and nephews: Steve Mason, Keith and Craig Farnham, Maureen Williams, Ken and Steve Therrien, and Lynda Graham; by two brothers-in-law, Mayland Mason of Newport and Bruce Farnham of Richmond; by a sister-in-law, Carolyn Judd, and her husband, Arthur, of Florida and Morgan; and by her beloved pet Sosha. She was predeceased by two sisters, Madeline Mason and Irene Farnham. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 8, at St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Newport with the Reverend Yvon Royer celebrating a Mass of Christian Burial. Spring interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Blanche L. DuBois

, 96, died on Wednesday, March 1, 2006, in New York City. Mrs. DuBois had been a lifelong resident of Island Pond. She spent her later years in Vernon and Tolland, Connecticut, and New York City. She was born August 18, 1909, in Richford, a daughter of the late Joseph and Nancy Sharby. She attended schools in St. Albans. In 1938 she married Theodore W. DuBois of Island Pond. He predeceased her in 1968. She lived in Island Pond on her beautiful hill overlooking the lake until 1995 when, at age 86, she moved to Vernon. In 2004 she moved to New York City and was a resident at The Village Nursing Home, where she was content and lovingly cared for. She will always be remembered for her loving, positive, and generous spirit, her deep and abiding faith in God, and her exceptional musical talent. At age 14, she accompanied her older brothers to play piano for the silent movies they showed in many town halls in Vermont, the original movie theaters. In her early twenties she played piano over the radio, and throughout her life played for countless parties and occasions. She played piano in a small dance band for many years. She is survived by her son Ted DuBois of New York City; by her daughter and son-in-law Marilyn and Michael A. DeLugan of Tolland; by four grandsons: Robert Reilly of Hope Mills, North Carolina, James DeLugan of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Michael D. DeLugan and Anthony DeLugan of Windsor, Connecticut; by one great-grandson, Derek Marlowe, presently serving with the U.S. Army in the Middle East; by one brother, Robert Sharby Sr., and his wife, Lorette, of Pittsfield, Massachusetts; and by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by five brothers: George, Frederick, Arthur, Albert, and EugeneSharby; and by three sisters: Evelyn Bruce, Irene Sharby, and Catherine Cieplik. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated March 4 at St. James Catholic Church in Island Pond with the Reverend William Morgan officiating. Spring interment will take place at Lakeside Cemetery in Island Pond.
Cindy J. (Marsh) Shover

, 49, of Brownington, whose Abenaki name was Loon Caller, died at her home on Thursday, March 2, 2006, after a long illness of cancer. Mrs. Shover was born in Newport at the old hospital on January 29, 1957, the first of three children born to William James "Jim" Marsh and Norine A. Marsh. On October 24, 1987, she married Harry C. Shover, who survives her. She graduated from Lake Region Union High School in 1975 and worked in several occupations. Most recently she has been self-employed with her husband, Harry, in the company they built, Bear Graphics. She has been a member of the Interval Chapter No. 61 of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a Girl Scout leader and head chairman. She was a member of the Northeastern Vermont Development Association. She served as a representative on the planning commission and as auditor for many years for the town of Brownington. She was a firefighter and safety officer for the Westmore Fire Department and a member of the Barton Ambulance Squad. Her hobbies included fishing and hunting, doing handiwork, gardening, cooking, freezing and canning, writing books, repairing fishing rods, custom building of fishing rods, wood working and carving, glass etching and carving, taxidermy, herbalogy, and Native American understandings. She is also survived by her stepdaughter DanyelleShover; by her two brothers, Danny J. Marsh and his wife, Yvette, and their children Amy (Marsh) Barrup, Lee Barrup, and Christopher Marsh, and Randy J. and Lynne Marsh and their daughters Ashley and Courtney; by uncles: Geo Stone of Orleans, Edward Marsh of Plainfield, and Arthur Dow of Newport; by aunts: Ellen Hommel of Orleans, Glenn Dow of Newport,Bev Royer of Newport, Maine, and Anna Johnson of Westmore; by her mother-in-law, Gladys Shover, of Orleans; by brother- and sister-in-law Ronald and Maria Shover of Defuniak Springs, Florida, by close family friend Carolyn Forbes of Defuniak Springs; by nieces and nephews: Harold and Gwen Shover and their two children of Defuniak Springs, Harry G. Leonard L. Young

, 70, of North Troy died in Newport on Thursday, March 2, 2006. Mr. Young was born in St. Albans on November 14, 1935, a son of Leonard and Pearl (Shover) Young. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the American Legion North Troy Post No. 28. He was a logger for a few years along with being a long distance hauler with Starr's Transportation until his retirement. He was an avid participant in many different sports including bowling, hunting, and fishing. He even found time to take his family on a cross-country trip, going out on the southern route and back on the northern route. In 1960 he married Joanne M. Cadieux, who survives him. He is also survived by his children: James Young and his wife, Tricia, of Waterbury, Lois Standish and her husband, Steve, of North Troy, Patricia Bonney and her husband, Terrance, of England, and Jeffrey Young and his wife, Jennifer, of North Troy; and by his grandchildren: Tanner and Carly Young of Waterbury, Anthony and Nathan Standish of North Troy, Xavier and Marcus Bonney of England, and Christina Young of North Troy. Funeral services were held at the Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Memorial Chapel in Newport March 4 with the Reverend Roger Fletcher officiating. , 87, of Brownington died Friday, March 10, 2006, at the Whiting Lane home where she was born and lived her whole life. Mrs. Bowen was born on January 22, 1919, a daughter of George and Adeline (Skinner) Young. She went to Cole Hill Graded School and graduated from West Charleston High School. On February 12, 1937, at the age of 18, she married Eben E. Bowen, who predeceased her in 1982. She and her husband farmed for many years in Brownington. She enjoyed working the land and all that went with farming, especially sugaring with her husband. She was a member of the Brownington Grange No. 279. She is survived by her brother Alton Young of West Charleston and by nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held March 14 at a Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Newport with the Reverend Roger Fletcher officiating. Spring interment will take place at the West Charleston Cemetery.
Donald Willey Kilborn Jr.

, 78, of Derby died at his home on Wednesday, March 8, 2006. Mr. Kilborn was born in Newport on July 10, 1927, a son of Donald W. Sr. and Elsie (Calkins) Kilborn. In high school he enjoyed baseball and basketball, and he played on town teams after school. He graduated from Derby Academy in 1947. He owned and operated his own dairy farm on what was known as Kilborn Hill (now Hinman Settler Road) in Derby, retiring several years ago. Along with farming, he also ventured into logging and sugaring. On January 19, 1992, he married Mary Chittenden (Fletcher), who survives him. He is also survived by two stepchildren, Thomas Combs of Derby and Katherine Combs of Seattle, Washington; by a sister, Rachel Bradley, and her husband, John, of Palm Coast, Florida; by two brothers, Richard Kilborn and his wife, Barbara, of Derby and Lawrence Kilborn and his wife, Patricia, of Newport; by nieces and nephews: Steven Doucette of Dunstable, Massachusetts, Debra Jablonski of Poway, California, Catherine Doucette of Tewkesbury, Massachusetts, Allison Bradley of Davie, Florida, Andrew Bradley of Plattsburgh, New York, Daniel Kilborn of Brunswick, Ryan Kilborn of Northfield, Michael Kilborn of St. Petersburg, Florida, Karen McBride of Colchester, and Lisa Rollins of Burlington; and by longtime friends: Wilfred and Mary Ann Tetreault of Derby and Daniel Lyon of Derby Line. He was predeceased by a sister, Alice (Kilborn) Doucette in 2002. A graveside service will be held at the Derby Center Cemetery in the summer. He is survived by his loving mother, Vicky Lucier, of Burlington; by his father, Steve Lucier, and family of Jay; by his children KodyLucier of Conrow and Lindsay Lucier of Olean, New York; by his loving brother Jessie Willis, his wife, Louise, and their children of Orleans; by eternal grandmothers Winnie Jean Dexter of Kingsland, Texas, and Frances Lucier; and by grandfather Duane Lucier, for whom he was named, of Jay. He is also survived by many loving aunts and uncles, most of whom needs mentioning, his aunt Jackie Willis and her husband, Keith, of Conrow, with whom he resided and was cared for during his time of departure from this earth. Other aunts include his loving aunt Shelly Pfenning, Lisa Morse, Cindy Stolpa, loving uncle Mark Lucier, Mike Medlock, Ronnie Morse, Harold Morse Jr., and Timmy Morse. He also had many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his loving uncle Bobby Medlock. A small private memorial service will be held at his brother's home for close family and friends only.

, 84, of Irasburg died in Barton on Friday, March 10, 2006. Mr. Royer was born in North Troy on April 30, 1921, a son of Clement and Melina (Poirier) Royer. On July 22, 1940, he married Bernadette Provoncher, who predeceased him on December 7, 2005. He and his wife bought the family farm in Irasburg in the 1940s and ran it for many years. Their sons now run it. They also ran barn dances in the early- to mid-1970s, with many local bands playing there. They also did a lot of traveling around the country, visiting several states to attend Farm Bureau conventions. He was a Massey Fergerson and Ski-Doo dealer. He was a member of the Orleans Fish and Game Club and enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and bowling. He is survived by his children: Philip Royer and his wife, Doris, of Irasburg, Richard Royer and his wife, Valorie, of Irasburg, Patricia Poutre and her husband, Alfred, of Irasburg, and Denis Royer and his wife, Lori, of Irasburg; by his brothers: Ernest Royer of Newport Center, Emile Royer of Irasburg, Raymond Royer of Irasburg, and Andrew Royer of Derby; by 13 grandchildren; and by 16 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by four brothers and two sisters. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated March 13 at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Orleans with the Reverend Yvon Royer and the Reverend Daniel Rupp officiating. Spring interment will take place at St. Ignatius Cemetery. Margaret Fay Speir

, 86, a longtime resident of the Hardwick community, died Saturday, March 11, 2006, at the Haven Health Center in St. Albans. Mrs. Speir was born February 27, 1920, in Woodbury, a daughter of the late George H. and Fannie (Ahonen) Fay. She attended Mackville public schools and graduated from Hardwick Academy in 1936. She attended Johnson Normal School and received a teaching degree in 1939. She continued her education, and in 1951 she received a bachelor of science degree in education. Later she earned a certified school librarian certificate. On June 18, 1955, she married Carlos David "Carl" Speir in Hardwick. He died May 15, 1978. She first taught school at the one-room West Hill School in Hardwick. She later was a teacher in Danville and Springfield before returning to Hardwick Academy. She retired from 37 years in education in 1976. She was a very active member of the United Church of Hardwick. She was treasurer of that church for 43 years, a member of the Women's Fellowship Circle No. 10, and superintendent of the United Church Sunday school for 25 years. She was a member of the Hardwick Senior Citizens and organized the Hardwick information booth for many years. She was the founder and 25-year president of the Hardwick Historical Society and a member of the Mackville Home Dem. She was a recipient of the Hardwick Citizen of the Year Award in 2003. She enjoyed playing cards, flower gardening, and being with her dog Beauty. Survivors include two nieces, SharleenSpeir of Hardwick and Sheryl Sancibrian of Barre; a nephew, Terrence "Terry" Cox, of Hardwick; a cousin, Edward Merchant, his wife, Kathy, of Barre and their children: Bonnie Flanagan of Montpelier, Stephen Merchant of Washington, and Keith Merchant of South Barre; and loving friends Joseph and Ida Bovatt and family of St. Albans. Funeral services were held March 14 at the United Church in Hardwick with Pastor Judy Waible officiating. Spring burial will be in the family lot in the Main Street Cemetery in Hardwick. , 84, of Orleans died in Newport on Thursday, March 9, 2006. Mr. Lamarche was born in Alfred, Ontario, on March 17, 1921, a son of Olidor and Rose DeLima (Preseault) Lamarche. He owned and operated a farm for many years. He also worked as a feed dealer. He was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed planting flower gardens, walking, talking to his grandchildren about their lives, and going to watch their baseball and hockey games. He also enjoyed going to Florida when he was able. He was very close to his brother-in-law Richard "Fat" Sheltra and missed him greatly when he died several years ago. On October 10, 1941, he married Bibiane Campbell, who survives him. He is survived by his children: Claude Lamarche and his wife, Carmen, of Irasburg, Robert Lamarche and his wife, Alice, of Viera, Florida, Denise Decelles and her husband, Ray, of Irasburg, and Suzanne Beauregard and her husband, Pierre, of Montreal, Quebec; by his brother Andre Lamarche of Claremont, New Hampshire; by his sisters YolandeLandriault of Montreal and Jacqueline Landriault of Laval, Quebec; by 14 grandchildren; and by ten great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated March 14 at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Orleans with the Reverend Daniel Rupp officiating.
