, 88, of Coventry died at her home on Saturday, July 23, 2005. Mrs. Beaumier was born in Coventry on June 10, 1917, a daughter of Alphee and Antonia (Gagnon) Desbiens. On December 24, 1946, she married Francis Beaumier, who survives her. Together they owned and operated a farm in Irasburg for over 30 years. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. She and her husband liked to play cards with friends and family. She was a very good cook and always enjoyed having the family come home. She also tended a large garden and canned what they didn't eat for future enjoyment. She was an excellent seamstress and made several quilts for family and friends. She and her husband loved to travel into Canada and up and down the East Coast. Besides her husband, she is survived by her children: Yvette Deslandes and her husband, Norbert, of Irasburg, Richard L. Messier of Newport Center, Michael Beaumier and his wife, Linda, of Newport Center, and Sue Urie and her husband, Paul, of Charleston, South Carolina; by her grandchildren: Larry Messier and his friend, Elizabeth Lafleur, Andre Messier and his wife, Kim, Paul Deslandes and his wife, Linda, Leslie Urie, and Jackie Urie; by seven great-grandchildren; and by three great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by 20 brothers and sisters and by her daughter-in-law Bernice Messier. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated July 26 at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Newport with the Reverend Yvon Royer officiating. Interment followed at St. Mary's Cemetery in Newport. Evelyn Mary "Evie" Foss

, 72, of East Hardwick died peacefully Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at her home following a short illness. Mrs. Foss was born March 4, 1933, in St. Johnsbury, a daughter of the late Theodore G. and Agnes (Mackay) Farrow. She attended Peacham public schools and graduated from Peacham Academy in 1951. She continued her education at the University of Vermont. On July 20, 1952, she married Frank Irving Foss in Peacham. For a number of years she and her husband operated the Elkins Tavern boarding house in Peacham. Following a disastrous Peacham Academy dormitory fire in the late 1950s, they turned their boarding house into student housing for the Peacham Academy high school boys. In 1961 she and her family moved to East Hardwick, where she has since made her home. She was employed for many years in the administrative office at Hardwick Elementary School. She was a member of the Peacham Congregational Church and a 50-year member of the Diamond Chapter Order of Eastern Star in Danville. She was a very active member of the Hardwick Rescue Squad for 25 years, at various times serving as president, training officer, and trustee. For many years she was treasurer for the village of East Hardwick. She was a 4-H leader in East Hardwick, a 30-year member of the Barre-Tones Barber Shop Chorus, and a member of St. Andrew's Society. She sang in the Kilted Chorus for several years. She enjoyed music, sewing, knitting, quilting, and gardening, and she loved her family. Survivors include a son, Brian Foss, of Hardwick; four daughters: Sharon Standingbear of Maury, North Carolina, Maxine Foss of Barre, Wendy Foss of Drummond Island, Michigan, and Tracy Foss of Georgetown, Maine; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Marjory Cassidy, of Groton; two brothers, Theodore Farrow of Webster, Massachusetts, and Cedric Farrow of Shelburne; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank, on July 10, 2000. Funeral services were held July 22 at the United Church in Hardwick with Pastor Judy Waible officiating. , 51, a former resident of Albany, died in Biddeford, Maine, Thursday, July 21, 2005, following a battle with lung cancer. Ms. Goad was born November 6, 1953, in Newport, a daughter of Priscilla (Smith) Goad of Albany and the late Percy Goad. She attended grade school in Albany and was a 1971 graduate of Lake Region Union High School. She made her home in the Albany area until two years ago when she moved to the Portland, Maine, area where she was employed at Dunkin' Donuts. She loved spending time with her family and especially doing things for her son and grandchildren. She was a member of the Albany United Methodist Church. She leaves her son Cory Wells of Newport; and three grandchildren: Chelsea Elliott of Brownington and Cody and Nathan Wells, both of Newport; by her mother, Priscilla Goad, of Albany; by a sister, Teena Parenteau, of Portland, Maine; and by a niece, Melanie Marquis, and her husband, Jason, and their children Bryanne and Shane Marquis, all of Albany. She also leaves aunts, uncles, and cousins. A memorial service was held July 26 at the Albany United Methodist Church with Pastor Nathan Strong officiating. , 9, of Coventry died peacefully in Lebanon, New Hampshire, surrounded by and being held by her loving family. This sweet baby girl is at home with God. Jordan was born in St. Johnsbury on April 25, 1996, a daughter of Bradley and Katherine (Bennett) Lawson. She loved family time, boating, spending time with her sister Taylor, camping, and her many friends at the Coventry Village School. She is survived by her parents, Bradley and Katherine Lawson, of Coventry; by her sister Taylor Lawson of Coventry; by her paternal grandmother, Linda Lawson, of Newport Center; by her maternal grandparents, Norman and Linda Bennett of Coventry and Lois "G.G." Bennett of Brownington; by her great-uncle Don Bennett of Coventry; by her paternal great-grandmother Helen Lawson of Newport Center; and by her aunts and uncles: John Lawson of Derby, Scott Bennett and his fiancée, Jamie Curtis, of Coventry, Dale Bennett and his friend, Kim Nolan, and Ashley Papp of Coventry. She also leaves behind her dog Abbie and her little kitty. She was predeceased by her paternal grandfather, David Lawson. Funeral services were held July 23 at a Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Newport with Pastor Enoch Rowell officiating. Interment followed at the Coventry Village Cemetery. Beatrice "Bea" Phillips

, 89, of North Troy died in Newport on Monday, July 18, 2005, and is now home with her Lord and Savior, whom she loved dearly and witnessed boldly. Mrs. Phillips was born in Montpelier on August 24, 1915, a daughter of Ara and Hazel (Sheldon) Ball. She grew up in Bristol and graduated from the University of Vermont in 1938. She taught at North Troy, Newport Center, Brattleboro, and North Country schools. She was an accomplished music composer and pianist. She was a member of the North Troy First Congregational Church, where she played the organ. She was a member of the Vermont Composers, a member and past president of both the Retired Teacher's Association and the Woman's Club, a member of American Legion Troy Post No. 28 Auxiliary and the UVM Green and Gold Club, and was a mentor for the Wise Owl Program. She loved biking, flowers, camping, and swimming. She was proud of UVM and was famous for her bread baking. On August 6, 1944, she married Maurice Phillips, who survives her. She is survived by her children: Hazel Jane Hong and her husband, John, of Colchester, Frederik Phillips and his wife, Marianne, of Dover, New Hampshire, Nancy Nash and her husband, William, of Martha's Vineyard, Diana Poulin and her husband, Peter, of Newport, and Hope Ann Ferris and her husband, Kenneth, of Montpelier; by her grandchildren: Tania Horton, Hope Ann Horowitz, John Phillip Hong, Monica Hong, Max Phillips, Thayer Phillips, Sean Nash, Diana Nash, Christopher and Cory Poulin, and Jennie and Joseph Ferris; by her sister Dorothy Myers of Texas; by her sisters-in-law Helen Ball of North Ferrisburg and Madeline Davis of Bristol; by five great-grandchildren; and by many nieces and nephews. In addition to her family she leaves her multitude of friends far and wide. A memorial service was held July 21 at the North Troy Congregational Church. , 46, of Irasburg died in Newport on Tuesday, July 12, 2005. Mr. Stone was born in Glover on October 29, 1958, a son of Hugh Sr. and Blanche (Lamonda) Stone. He worked as a mechanic for 25 years, where his skills were utilized in several different locations in the area. He enjoyed his work and loved helping people. He also loved his grandchildren and spending time with his family. On November 29, 1992, he married Bonnie Cheney, who survives him. He is also survived by his parents, Hugh and Blanche Stone, of Barton; by his children James Stone and his wife, Tracy, of Irasburg and Brandi Stone of Newport; by his stepchildren: Erica Young and her husband, Dana, of Newport, Rodney Horskins and his fiancée, Lisa, of Albany, Rhonda Martin and her husband, Tom, of Newport Center, Tira Santaw and her husband, Marc, of North Troy, and Jaime Johnson of North Troy; by his grandchildren: Kara, T.J., Mackenzie, Fayth, Ally, Zack, Sam, Toni, and Todd; by his siblings: Lois Menard of Glover, Harley Stone and his wife, Catherine, Norman Stone Sr. and his wife, Sue, of North Carolina, Dale Stone and his wife, Audrey, of Sutton, Peggy Bly and her husband, Tom, of Derby, Julie Willey of Glover, and Tammy Hodgdon of Barton; and by his sister-in-law Sandy Stone of Glover. , 88, of Newport died peacefully at Bel-Aire Quality Care Nursing Center in Newport on Saturday, July 23, 2005. Mr. Whinn was born in Hoboken, New Jersey, on September 8, 1916, the son of Walter Scott and Anna Shearer (Hagerty) Whinn. He worked for Bell Telephone Laboratories. He was a member of the Masonic Union Lodge and Scottish Rite. On October 2, 1942, he married Ellen Pauline Weber, who survives him. He is also survived by his sons William Scott Whinn and his wife, Margaret Jean, of Woodland Hills, California, and Walter James Whinn and his wife, Elizabeth, of Center Barnstead, New Hampshire; by his brother Arthur J. Whinn and his wife, Roberta, of East Falmouth, Massachusetts, and their children: Robert Jean Whinn of Massachusetts, Joanne Whinn Simpson of New Jersey, Wendy Franklin and her husband, Allen, of Newport, and Alan Earp and his wife, Laura, of St. Johnsbury. A memorial service will be held at the Morgan United Church on Thursday, July 28, at 10:30 a.m., with the Reverend John Genco officiating. Interment will follow at the Clark Cemetery in Morgan.
