, 63, of 170 Cottage Street, Littleton, N.H., passed away suddenly at his home on Saturday, May 7, 2005. A native of Littleton, Alan was born on Jan. 2, 1942, the son of Burns and Doris (Maddox) MacDonald. Alan was a 1962 graduate of Littleton High School. Alan was a board member for Hospice of the Littleton Area of which he was active on the Fund Raising Committee. He founded the North Country Emergency Fund which has helped many families in their times of need dealing with catastrophic circumstances. Alan enjoyed fishing and participating in Republican Party politics. Alan's greatest pleasure was watching his grandsons play ice hockey and baseball. Surviving family members include his wife, Marilyn (Craigie) MacDonald; one daughter, Heather MacDonald and her husband Gary Morneau; two grandsons, Maddon A. Morneau and Garron T. Morneau, all of Littleton; three sisters, Jane Maguire of Meredith, N.H., Dale Gilbert of Littleton, N.H., and Lynn Merrill of New Boston, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews. One brother, Ian MacDonald, predeceased him. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2005, at 11 a.m. in the Glenwood Cemetery in Littleton, with the Rev. Fr. , of Concord, Vt., died early Tuesday morning, May 10, 2005, at home at the age of 63. She was born in Woodsville, N.H., Jan. 10, 1942, the daughter of Ansil and Isabel (Douse) Judd. Nancy was a loving mother who loved crafts, fishing and playing Yahtzee. Survivors include her son and his wife, Robert and Tracy Stone of St. Johnsbury; three daughters, Beth A. Stone of Chelsea, Vt., Lynn and her husband Steven Bell of St. Johnsbury, and Holly A. Stone and her companion John Descoteaux of Concord; seven grandchildren, Angela Conley, Steven Bell, Crystal Bell, Misty Bell, Amy Bell, Ann Descoteaux and John Descoteaux; a great-granddaughter, Sera Tiedeman. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert "Bob" Stone, on April 4, 1997; a brother, George Judd; and a sister, Phylis Olcott. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 13, 2005, at Sayles Funeral Home with Mr. John Sleeper officiating. Burial will be at the family's convenience at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. , 88, of Washington Street, Littleton, N.H., passed away on Monday, May 9, 2005, at Littleton Regional Hospital. A native of Littleton, Lester was born a son to Harold and Bessie (Elliott) Goad on Dec. 25, 1916. He was a 1934 graduate of Littleton High School. Lester married Phyllis (Hastings) Goad on Feb. 19, 1944. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army doing active duty in the European Theater for four years. Upon returning home after the war, Lester was employed by the Littleton Post Office as a mail carrier and retired 35 years later as postmaster. Lester was president of the Littleton Rotary Club and a longtime member of the Masons. He was also president of the Retired Federal Employees Chapter 1776 for 14 years, as well as vice president of the N.R.F.E. for two years. Lester was a member of the First United Methodist Church for 40 years and served on various committees. Surviving family members include one brother, Kenneth H. Goad of Luray, Va.; two sisters, Lois Goad Polson of Madbury, N.H., and Hillis Goad Polson of Littleton, N.H.; and many nieces and nephews. His parents; one brother, Harry William Goad; and his wife, Phyllis Goad, predeceased him. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2005, at the First United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Stephen E. Bascom Sr. officiating. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery. , longtime St. Johnsbury Grand Union meat manager, passed away at his St. Johnsbury House home Wednesday, May 11, 2005. He was born in Westmore on April 10, 1929, the son of Orrell and Ruth (Valley) Warner. He graduated from Barton Academy top of his class. His wife Lorraine (Brunelle) Warner died tragically in an auto accident on Dec. 1, 1983. They were married Nov. 9, 1949, and had a family of six children. Larry was a longtime area meat cutter. He was meat manager for Grand Union on Railroad St. in St. Johnsbury for 35 years and had worked also at Price Chopper and Butson's supermarkets. He owned Bouchard's Market in Concord from 1971-75. He is survived by four sons and two daughters, Michael Warner and his fianc? Dixiana of Manchester, N.H., David Warner and his fianc? Donna of Alstead, N.H., Daniel Warner of Hartland, Vt., Richard Warner of Portland, Maine, Rachael May and her husband Randy Locke of Craftsbury Common, Vt., and Kathleen Warner of Newton, N.H.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and one brother, Mahlon Warner and his wife Arlene of Brattleboro, Vt. A sister, Lorraine Parsons, predeceased him. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Sayles Funeral Home with Fr. Patrick Forman officiating. Burial will be at the family's convenience at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Saturday from 12 noon until the beginning of the service. , 91, of 680 Bayley-Hazen Road, Peacham, Vt., died on May 11, 2005, at her residence. Barbara Montgomery Donaldson was born July 14, 1913, in Roselle, N.J. She was the oldest of three children born to Robert and Mary (Wood) Donaldson. Her family moved to Sea Cliff, Long Island, N.Y., when she was 4 years old. She grew up in Sea Cliff, graduated from Oyster Bay High School and attended Ballard Business School and St. Luke's Nursing School in New York City. In Sea Cliff she met and married Harry Jamieson on Nov. 6, 1937, in St. Luke's Episcopal Church. They had been married 64 years when Harry died on Feb. 14, 2002. They retired to Peacham, Vt., for about 40 years. Together they had two children, seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and nephews and nieces who were especially close to Barbara. Barbara devoted herself to her home and family. She and her husband raised their two children and three of their grandchildren. Barbara loved to garden, hike, read and do crossword puzzles. She and Harry camped at Groton State Forest and canoed on Ewell's and Martin's Ponds. She had great enthusiasm for the out-of-doors, words, literature and ideas. She was a Girl Scout leader, a camp director, taught a great books course, taught Sunday school, was a prolific knitter and led a senior citizens group. She taught herself to read Greek and did her own translation of part of the New Testament from the original Greek. She is survived by her brother, Robert Donaldson of Newport News, Va.; and was predeceased by her sister, Margaret Bucknam of Liverpool, N.Y. Other survivors are her son, Dennis Jamieson of New York City, N.Y.; her daughter, Mary Barnes of Oakland, Calif.; her grandchildren, George Duran, Madeline Roberts, Douglas Jamieson, Dennis Jamieson Jr., Cecilia Jamieson, Nathan Barnes and Cora Barnes. A private graveside service will be held at Peacham Cemetery for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Peacham Library or St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in St. Johnsbury, Vt.

, age 101, died on Wednesday, May 11, 2005, at the Samuel Marcus Nursing Home in Weymouth, Mass. She was born in Acton, Mass. on Jan. 23, 1904. She was raised in Acton and resided there for a number of years. She was a graduate of Burdett College in Boston and had been employed in the office at the Middlesex Laundry in Maynard, Mass. She retired 31 years ago, at age 80. She was a life member of the Order of Eastern Star. She belonged to the Magdalene Chapter at Maynard, Mass. She resided in St. Johnsbury, Vt. for 16 years and was a member of the North Congregational Church at St. Johnsbury. She enjoyed birthday parties. She was the wife of the late Herbert F. Whipple, Fletcher S. Hyde and Frank S. Braman. She is survived by a son, Frank Andrew Braman of Braintree, Mass.; two grandchildren, Lance Owen Braman of Japan and Dawn M. Braman of Southington, Conn.; a great-granddaughter, Sibohan Jacqueline Braman. She is also survived by her former daughter-in-law, Josephine Braman. The funeral will be private with burial to be at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Acton, Mass.

, of Lyndonville, Vt., died peacefully Saturday morning, May 14, 2005, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury at the age of 74. She was born Feb. 5, 1931, in Burke, the only daughter of the late Nelson and Mable (Dolloff) Counter. She was schooled in Burke Hollow, and on Dec. 9, 1967, she married Albert Sanborn. Arlene was a very kind-hearted, gentle soul who loved to visit with people and help out wherever she could. She was loved by everyone she came in contact with, and will be missed greatly. Survivors include her husband of 38 years, Albert Sanborn of Lyndonville; their son, Steve Sanborn, also of Lyndonville; three sisters-in-law, Betty Counter of St. Johnsbury, Wanetta Counter of Lyndonville, and Alice Buchowski of Pennsylvania; nieces and nephews; and several very close and dear friends who were always available at times of need. She was predeceased by her two brothers, Donald and Bernie Counter. Visiting hours will be held at the Guibord Funeral Home this Tuesday evening from 6-8. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 18, at 11 a.m., at the funeral home with the Rev. Joan Vincent officiating. Edward J. "Buzz" McCabe Jr.

, 77, of 9 Shoreline Drive, Whitefield, N.H., passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2005, at the Littleton Regional Hospital after an extended illness. Mr. McCabe was the son of the late Edward J. and Beatrice E. (Couper) McCabe, born on Jan. 24, 1928 in Providence, R.I. He was the widower of L. Kathleen Langton. "Buzz" was a 1945 graduate of LaSalle Academy, where he was an outstanding baseball player and member of the band. The recently constructed band room at LaSalle was dedicated in his name. He was an avid sports fan throughout his life. The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame was his team of all teams and he traveled for many years to their games. Mr. McCabe served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was an ironworker for several years before joining his father in his business, Drum Rock Specialties of Warwick, R.I. He retired from Drum Rock in 1993 and moved to Whitefield, N.H., where he made many close friends. He was a life member of the Warwick Elks Lodge 2196 of Warwick, R.I. "Buzz" is survived by several cousins, including Francis McCabe, Kay Sullivan and Mary Morgan; his companion, Kay Donovan; and his beloved pal "Rocky." A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, May 16, 2005, at 11 a.m., at St. Matthew's Church in Whitefield, with the Rev. Fr. George Majka as celebrant. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in his memory to the LaSalle Academy, Special Needs Fund, 612 Academy Ave., Providence, RI 02908. , 68, passed away peacefully in her sleep Sunday, May 15, 2005, at her home in Burbank, Calif. Gwen was born in Danville, Vt., May 3, 1937, the first child born to Eunice and Gerald "Brownie" Brown. She attended Austine School for the Deaf in Brattleboro, Vt., for nine years and completed her education at Clarke School for the Deaf in Northampton, Mass. She is survived by her husband, James Rovas of Burbank; six children, Suzanne Lovelady, William, John, Brian and Michael Teeter, all of California, and Katrina and her husband Tracy Dorsch of Pittsburgh, Pa.; two sisters and their husbands, Grace and Roger Morse of West Lebanon, N.H., and Dianne and Larry Gadapee of Danville; 11 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents; a brother, William; her first husband, David Teeter; and many relatives. Services and burial for Gwendolyn Rovas will be held Wednesday, May 18, in Glendale, Calif.

George S. Riach

, 81, of Washington Street, Littleton, N.H., passed away at the Littleton Regional Hospital Sunday, May 15, 2005, after a period of declining health. He was born Sept. 5, 1923, in Hardwick, Vt., son of James and Minnie (Stephen) Riach. After graduating from Hardwick Academy as president of his class, he enlisted in the Marine Corps, serving during World War II in the Pacific Theatre as a communications specialist. Following discharge from military service, he married Vivian Villeneuve, also of Hardwick, Vt., on Jan. 17, 1946, at the Annacostia Navel Chapel in Washington, D.C. They resided in Hardwick for a short time prior to relocating to Littleton in 1951 and raising their family here. He was a member of the VFW, Howard Shawney Post, Littleton, and a former member of the Caspian Lake Lodge 87, F & AM of Hardwick, Vt. George was employed for many years by Squire Arlington Meat Company of Springfield, Mass., where he serviced retail outlets for their northern New Hampshire and Vermont customers. Later he was employed by several North Country supermarkets, managing their retail meat and poultry sales. During his retirement, he became an avid golfer, and for many years was employed as a greenskeeper by the Maplewood Country Club of Bethlehem, N.H. He and his wife enjoyed spending winters in Charlotte Harbor, Fla. He was a skilled wood crafter and enjoyed attending craft fairs where he would display his work. He was a devoted family man, taking great pleasure in times spent with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Vivian (Villeneuve) Riach of Littleton; two sons, Kent S. Riach of North Haverhill, N.H., and Brent J. Riach of Salem, N.H.; a daughter, Candence Beard of Merrimack, N.H.; five grandchildren, six great grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Ross Funeral Home, Littleton Chapel, on Wednesday, May 18, from 6-8 p.m. Services will take place at the funeral home on Thursday, May 19, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery, Littleton. , 83, of North Conway, N.H., passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2005, at The Memorial Hospital. Eunice was born a daughter to Arthur and Evelyn (Fenoff) Cooper on March 4, 1922, in East Barnet, Vt. She attended school in St. Johnsbury, Vt. Eunice was employed by the Littleton Diner and various other restaurants as a waitress. She also worked for the state of New Hampshire as a dispatcher at the Lost River Highway Camp for 12 years. Eunice enjoyed making latch-hook rugs, and camping and fishing with her children in their childhood years. Surviving family members include three sons, Arthur Howe of Windsor Locks, Conn., Robert Howe of Enfield, N.H., and Reginald Howe Jr. of Conway, N.H.; two sisters, Leona Bijolle of Rochester, N.H., and Iona Fenoff of Connecticut; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Her husband, Reginald Howe Sr., and two sisters predeceased her. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 18, 2005, from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Pillsbury Funeral Home, 101 Union Street, Littleton, N.H. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 19, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Margaret Sheffield of the Conway United Methodist Church officiating.
