, 87, of St. Johnsbury, Vt., died April 11, 2005, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury. He was born in Laconia, N.H., May 4, 1917, a son of George and Maude A. (Desrochers) Roberge. He was a World War II veteran and prior to his retirement, worked at Fairbanks Scales. Mr. Roberts is a member of the St. Johnsbury VFW. He was an avid bingo player, enjoyed music and going to flea markets. He married May Emily Knight in 1949 and she predeceased him on Nov. 9, 1994. He was also predeceased by sisters Leona Brock and Georgianna Pearson, and brothers George Roberts and Raymond Roberts. Survivors include three daughters, Carol Broderick of Barnet, Vt., and Emily Wheeler and Alberta Mozdzierz, both of St. Johnsbury; three grandchildren, Melissa Wheeler, Brian Wheeler and Adam Mozdzierz. There will be no calling hours. A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 15, 2005, at 1 p.m., at the West Barnet Presbyterian Church. The Rev. John Sanderson will officiate. Ada Ingalls Martin

, age 91, of Richford, Vt., passed away Tuesday April 12, 2005, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born Dec. 31, 1913, in Irasburg, the daughter of the late Ivan and Jennie (Wells) Ingalls. Ada attended a one-room rural school, grades 1-8, and then Orleans High School, graduating as salutatorian of the Class of 1930. She received a B.S. in education from the University of Vermont in 1934, with training for teaching in elementary as well as secondary schools and had majors in math, English and education. Her teaching career started with two years in the East Peacham one-room rural school, grades 1-8 inclusive. She was the teaching principal of Irasburg Elementary School, grades 6-8, 4-H club leader, coached junior high boys basketball and taught square dancing. She came to Richford in 1939 and married Reuben C. Martin on June 14, 1940. They operated Reuben's Green House & Florist Shop from 1946 to 1960, at which time she went back to teaching. For 27 years she taught math at Richford High School retiring in 1982. While at Richford she coached girls basketball from 1939-41, was adviser to the National Honor Society for several years, coached girls softball for 12 years, organized and sponsored the Future Teachers of America at RHS for several years, was senior class adviser for 21 years, official time-keeper for all home basketball games (both boys and girls) for over 20 years, and was adviser to RHS cheerleaders for two years, 1980-82. Ada was very active in many organizations including the following: National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, Vermont Council of Teachers of Mathematics (director for Zone One for one term), N.E.A., V.E.A, Delta Kappa Gamma, recipient of Outstanding Math Teacher in Vermont award in 1981 given by Sigma Zi, and was an original board member of the Richford Health Center serving until 1982. She was a member and deaconess of the Richford First Baptist Church. She also served as director of the State Women's Conference for four years, and president of the Vermont State Baptist Convention from 1981-82. She is survived by her children, Peter Martin and his wife Rita of Sheffield, Marianne Hall and her husband Maurice of Richford, and Paul Martin of Richford and his fiancee Christine Maurice of Sutton, Que; seven grandchildren, Daniel Martin, Kristi Zola, Leyton and David Martin, Todd Rogow, Jennifer Edlund and Maegan Rogow; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Roy Ingalls of Irasburg; and four nieces and one nephew. She was predeceased by her husband, Reuben C. Martin, on Sept. 19, 1993; two sisters, Lois Wingnet and Avis Hinton. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 at the First Baptist Church in Richford with Pastor Lyle Willey officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery in Richford. Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 140 Main St., Richford. , 58, died Sunday April 10, 2005, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. Eleanor was born on July 24, 1946, in Bangor, Maine, the daughter of Howard and Frances (Rattigan) Willard. She had worked for many years in the St. Johnsbury area for NEKCA as a substance abuse counselor. Ellie has resided at St. Joseph's Residential Care Home in Burlington since August. She enjoyed working with crafts and was very proud of her children and grandchildren. Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Christine Racicot and her husband Paul of Milton; by her sons, William Bradford and his wife Lori of Louisville, Ky., and Brian Bradford of Cincinnati, Ohio; by her grandchildren, Justin, Joshua, Cody, Lauren, Ryan and Julia. She is also survived by her brothers, James Willard and his wife Marge of Bonita Springs, Fla. and Colchester, and John Willard and his wife Susan of Grand Isle; by her sister, Frances Alibrio and her husband Anthony of Manchester, Conn.; and by many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Eleanor was predeceased by her brother, Thomas Willard; and by her companion, Kenneth Farrand. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, April 14, 2005, from 1-2 p.m., in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 2 p.m. in St. Ann's Catholic Church in Milton. , resident of St. Johnsbury since 1994, passed away Friday, April 8, 2005, at DHMC in Lebanon, N.H., at the age of 73. He was born in Maryland in the town of Reids Grove and was the son of Arthur and Mae Elizabeth (Insley) Brinsfield. Earl retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1976 after 24 years of service. During that time he met and married his wife Ilse in Germany. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and flew 111 reconnaissance missions out of Thailand over Vietnam. He was honored with many medals including the Distinguished Flying Cross. At the age of 52 he went to Bowling Green State University and after four years, earned his bachelor's degree in gerontology, graduating at the age of 55. Upon graduation, he accepted a position as a nursing home administrator in Ohio until 1990 when he retired due to illness. He was a very loving father and husband and is greatly missed by his family, relatives and friends. He is survived by his wife, Ilse (Herrmann) Brinsfield of St. Johnsbury; his son, D. Mark Brinsfield, who makes his home with his mother; his daughter, Annette Slavin and her fianc? Julio Moran of St. Johnsbury; two sisters, Twila Diaz and her husband Dr. Carlos Diaz of Eugene Ore., and Virginia Zeguierra of Puerto Rico; one brother, Royce Brinsfield of Delaware; two sisters-in-law, Hannelore Marshia and her husband Wayne of Lyndonville, and Anneliese Herrmann of Lyndonville; one brother-in-law, Hans Herrmann of Germany; and nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held Thursday, April 14, at 11 a.m., at the South Congregational Church with interim pastor, the Rev. Lee Moore, presiding. Hazel A. Willey

, 55-year resident of Russell Avenue in St. Johnsbury, passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at NVRH at the age of 93. She moved from her home in October 2002 and had been staying with Sue-Z Greaves. Hazel was born in Montreal on June 13, 1911, one of five children born to Frank and Elizabeth (Reid) Rosevear. All her siblings predeceased her: a brother, Earl; and sisters, Gertrude, Lillian and Myrtle, all of whom were Canadian residents. She was the widow of Herman D. Willey. He predeceased her Dec. 5, 1992. She and Herman were nature lovers. She would accompany Herman photographing plant life, especially orchids, amid the area bogs. Hazel was a member of the St. Johnsbury Country Club and was several times its ladies' champion. Even though it had been several years since she had actively golfed, she loved to talk about golf with people she knew shared her love of the sport. Hazel was also a master bridge player. She retired from Day's Jewelry Store in 1971. Six nieces, nephews and their families survive her. Memorial services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Sayles Funeral Home. The Rev. Jay Sprout will officiate. Her cremated remains will be buried with Herman's at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. , 71, of East Brainerd, Tenn., died Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at her residence. A longtime resident of Wells River, Vt., Mrs. French had lived in Chattanooga since 1975. She was a member of the New Hope Presbyterian Church, an active member of the Brainerd Kiwanis Club and the Battlefield Women's Golf Association. Sally was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Durwood French of Chattanooga; two sons, John (Susan) French of Buford, Ga., and Tom (Aileen) French of Amelia Island, Fla.; two daughters, Barbara (Rodney) Boyles of Union Grove, Ala., and Kathy (Barry) Bennett of St. Albans, Vt.; two sisters, Susan Tierney of Manchester, N.H., and Lee Hubbard of Whitman, Mass.; and 10 grandchildren, Andy, Kristina and Max Bennett of St. Albans, Vt., Jessica, Caitlyn and Emily French of Buford, Ga., Charlie and Megan Boyles of Union Grove, Ala., and Jessy and Alana French of Amelia Island, Fla. , of Danville, died Thursday, April 14, 2005, at home at the age of 81. He was born in Littleton, N.H., Dec. 4, 1923, the son of Roy and Lyla (Dyke) Astle. A 1941 graduate of Danville High School, he served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army in the European Theater. Robert was a skilled mechanic for Fairbanks Scales for over 30 years. Robert was a very active volunteer in the community at the senior meal site delivering meals in the area and a groundskeeper for several summer residents. He loved to garden, hunt, cut wood and for over 30 years he kept a weather record. He was an honorary member of the snowmobile club in Danville. Robert had a special love for animals, especially his cat, Meg. On Nov. 27, 1968, he married Grace Phillips Astle, who survives him in Danville. Other survivors include two sons, Robert Astle, and Jeffrey Astle and his wife Leslie, both of Washington; two daughters, Vivian Davis and her husband Arthur of Florida, and Bonnie Bassett of Kirby; four grandchildren, Matthew, Bret, Denise and Lynn; five great-grandchildren; and two nieces and a nephew. He was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy; his parents; a brother, Philip Astle; and his stepson, Wayne Bassett, in 2001. Funeral services will be held at Sayles Funeral Home, Monday, April 18, 2005, at 2 p.m. with Jane Larrabee officiating. Spring burial will be in Danville Green Cemetery. , 24, of Woodsville, N.H. left this earth suddenly and unexpectedly Tuesday morning, April 12, 2005, at the Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, N.H. Rhiannon and her life partner, Jeremy Partridge, had recently celebrated the premature birth of their daughter Cadence Rayn Partridge. Cadence spent 15 days bringing joy and wisdom to all whose lives she touched when she left this earth on Easter Sunday, April 27. Rhiannon was born in Yakima, Wash. and moved to Littleton, N.H. in 1994. Rhiannon is survived by her three children: two sons Austin Paul of Sugar Hill and Chanse Jordan, a daughter Raevin Skye, her partner Jeremy Partridge and son Cody Partridge, all of Woodsville, N.H. She was held in deep love by Jeremy's family. Rhiannnon is also survived by her mother, Mary Winslow, and her stepfather, Robert Vodvarka, of Berlin, N.H.; an older brother Adam Richardson of Tempe, Ariz.; a stepbrother, Ryan Vodvarka of Berlin; and her father, William Richardson of Soap Lake, Wash. Rhi was from a very large family and is loved by many aunts, uncles and cousins. Rhi touched the lives of many during her short visit here. Although Rhi faced many challenges, she did so with amazing strength and courage. Rhi was a champion for the underdog oftentimes at her own expense. Rhi didn't judge others; she had a kind heart and a sense of honor possessed by few. Rhiannon was an active member of the New Hampshire Council on Women and Addiction serving on the Curriculum Committee. She volunteered her time working with adolescent females in the juvenile justice system. She also volunteered her time as a member of the planning committee on a grant working with children who had witnessed domestic violence. Rhi was learning to take her life experiences and use it to empower other women and girls. She was a shining light in the darkness of the many lives she touched. There will be a memorial celebration on Saturday, April 23, 2005 at the New Life Assembly of God Church on Route 116/Whitefield Road in Bethlehem at 11 am. All who knew and loved her are invited to attend.

, age 83, a Wheelock resident, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2005, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital. The son of Clinton Dewey and Lena (Harriman) Sanborn, Lawrence was born Nov. 28, 1921, in Gorham, N.H. Lawrence served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Pearl Avis Willey who predeceased him. He was self-employed as a farmer and logger for many years in the area. He is survived by many good friends including Kathleen Perkins and family and Pearl Hodges and family, both of Lyndonville. A funeral service will be held Monday, April 18 at 1 p.m. at Pearsons Funeral Home, located at 70 Church St., Lyndonville, with Mr. John Sleeper officiant. Visiting hours will be Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m., also at the funeral home.

, 90, of Stowe, Vt., passed away quietly Tuesday evening, April 12, 2005, at Genesis Health Care in Morrisville with her loving family at her side. She was born Feb. 10, 1915, in Montgomery Center, the daughter of the late Rawson and Ethel (Smith) Simmons. She was a graduate of Enosburg Falls High School and married Richard P. Clark on July 3, 1937. She spent most of her married life in Waltham and Sudbury, Mass. She also summered in Island Pond and wintered in Little Torch Key, Fla. Most recently she lived at Copley Woodlands in Stowe. Throughout her life she enjoyed gardening, cooking, playing bridge, any kind of game, bird watching, Brook Trout, knitting, reading and most of all being with her family. She was a devoted mother to her children, Judith Storer of Bedford, Mass., and Richard Clark and his wife Elizabeth of Waterbury Center. Evelyn was cherished by her seven grandchildren, Jonathan Storer, Patricia Orme, James Storer, Peter Clark, Deborah Lowe, Amy Odefey and David Storer; eight great-grandchildren, Liam Orme, Cameron Clark, Elsa Orme, Elizabeth Lowe, Hannah Clark, Katherine Evelyn Storer, Eliane Odefey and Emily Storer. She will be dearly missed by her only surviving sister, Fern Perley of Enosburg Falls. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Richard Clark, on Aug. 11, 1991; a son-in-law, Robert Storer; three sisters, Nancy Retell, Ruth Sharpe and Edith Coyne; three brothers, Ralph, Clyde and Malcolm Simmons. In keeping with Evelyn's wishes she will be cremated. A graveside memorial service will be announced at a later date which will be held at Lakeside Cemetery in Island Pond. There will be no visiting hours. , 83, of Troy, passed away in Newport on Friday, April 15, 2005. He was born in St. Sabine, PQ, on July 11, 1921, the son of Leo and Aurore (Carpentier) Bonneau. On Sept. 6, 1943, he married Germaine Meunier, who survives him. Jean Paul worked on the family farm in Troy. He also enjoyed his other job as a real estate developer. He was a Troy selectman, a Community National Bank director for 20 years, an Agri-Mark director for 20 years and vice-chair for the last few years, an ASCS director, and a United Farmer director. He was a lifetime member of the Lions Club, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a lifetime member of the Elks Club. Besides his wife of 61 years, Jean Paul is survived by his children, Norman Bonneau and his fianc?e Mary Williams of Champlain, N.Y., Suzanne Dunn and her husband Robert of Troy, Helen Before and her husband Dwayne of Troy, Irene Dagesse and her husband Daniel of Derby, Rene Bonneau and his wife Mary-Lou of Troy, and Alan Bonneau and his wife Laurie of Derby; his son-in-law, Mike Abair and his wife Rena of Denver, Colo.; his siblings, Bernard Bonneau and his wife Fern of North Troy, Theresa Doyon and her husband Gaston of Lowell, Martha Limoge and her husband Real of Troy, and Celine Leblanc and her husband Norman of Jericho; his sister-in-law, Mary Bonneau of Lowell; 21 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughters, Pauline Abair in 1971, and by Lucy Bonneau in infancy; his brothers, Ange Marie and Gerard; and by his sister, Maria LaMarche. Mildred Christie (Douglas) Gibson

, 101, died April 11, 2005, at the Green Mountain Nursing Home. Mildred was born Oct. 26, 1903, daughter of the late James and Ida (Corkum) Douglas. She married John Gibson in 1923, who predeceased her in 1978. Mildred graduated from Island Pond High School with high honors, the Lyndon Normal School and Lyndon State College with a bachelor of science degree in education. She taught school for more than 33 years in mostly one-room schoolhouses in Essex County. After a strenuous two-week course at Goddard College, she taught Head Start during its first summer in Vermont. The following year, she became one of the first remedial reading specialists in Vermont and taught in Brownington, Norton and Canaan. Mildred always felt there wasn't a person she couldn't teach. Mildred love cooking and won several local and state contests. Entering sweepstakes was another one of her joys where she won only small prizes, but her real love was for writing. During her late retired years, she began writing poetry and received many certificates of merit. She wrote the "social news" of Island Pond for The Caledonian-Record until she was 98. For many years, Mildred was a lecturer and musician for the Island Pond Grange. She was past president of the Island Pond Women's Relief Corps, (Erastus Buck), Island Pond Women's Club and Orleans Essex Retired Teachers Association. She was an active organizer and member of the Burlington Lake Senior Center where she served as treasurer. She was a member of the Island Pond Congregational Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. Mildred is survived by her son, Wayne Gibson and his wife Ruby of South Burlington; her grandchildren, Scott Lamson and his wife Tricia, Stanley Gibson, Sara Gibson and her fianc? Gene Blanchard, Susan Williams and her husband Mark, and Shawn Gibson; her great-grandchildren, Amanda Gibson and Logan Williams; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Bernard and Roy Douglas; and by her sister, Florence Colville. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 14, at 3:30 p.m. at Island Pond Congregational Church. The family will receive friends beginning at 2 p.m. Interment will be private in East Charleston. Memorial contributions may be made in Mildred's name to the Sunrise Manor Meal Site, Island Pond, VT. , 75, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2005, at Littleton Regional Hospital after a battle with cancer. Josette was born Marie Josette Adrienne Couture, a daughter to Wilfred and Cora (Gagnon) Couture, on March 1, 1930, in Jefferson, N.H. She attended school in Canada. Josette married Jacque Pelletier in 1955 and resided in the Littleton area since 1968. She was employed by the Henschel Shoe Company while raising her children. Josette was a member of the Catholic Daughters and enjoyed sewing, gardening and family gatherings. Surviving family members include her husband, Jacque Pelletier of Littleton; one son, Rosaire Pelletier of Plainfield, N.H.; two daughters, Jacqueline Wood of Littleton, and Denise Hannigan of Houlton, Maine; three brothers, Rosaire Couture, Paul Couture and Julien "Chick" Couture, all of Jefferson, N.H.; two sisters, Ghislaine Dubois and Louise Lauzon, both of Jefferson; eight grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Her parents and two brothers, Albert and Antonio, as well as a sister, Solange, predeceased her. The family will receive friends on Monday evening, April 18, from 6-8 p.m. at the Pillsbury Funeral Home, 101 Union St., Littleton, NH. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, April 19, at 10 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church with the Rev. John Fleming as celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Rose Cemetery.
