, 66, of Easton, N.H., died Monday, Dec. 5, 2005, at his residence, after a heroic nine-year battle with cancer. Mr. North was born in New York City, N.Y., on June 25, 1939, the son of the late Irving and Jeanette (Nathan) North. He lived in Passaic and Teaneck, N.J., and graduated Teaneck High School in 1957. Mr. North received his bachelor of arts and master of arts degrees from Case-Western Reserve University in Cincinnati where he served as president of Alpha Delta Phi fraternity and was elected to Phi Alpha Theta, an honorary history fraternity. He completed an additional two years of graduate study at the University of Akron, Dartmouth College, the University of New Hampshire and Plymouth State College. His distinguished career in education began in Cleveland, Ohio. He taught at the John Adams Summeer and the John Hay Night high schools in Glenville, Ohio. He taught in the Dresden-Hanover, N.H. school districts. He also taught in the Hanover Junior/Senior High School. Mr. North served as assistant principal and then principal of the Francis C. Richmond Middle School. He served as principal of the Profile Junior/Senior High School in Bethlehem, N.H., from 1977-1997. He served five years at North Country Principal's Association, and nine years as North Country representative on the Board of Directors of the New Hampshire Association of School Principals. He also served two years as a staff member of the New Hampshire Summer Principal's Academy, and for the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. He was elected to two three-year terms as the New Hampshire representative on the commission on Public Secondary Schools. He was New Hampshire Secondary School Principal of the Year in June 1996. Mr. North served on the Lafayette School Board in 1999 and was re-elected in 2002. He served as town moderator for the town of Easton for 10 years. Mr. North served six years as chairman of the NH Interscholastic Athletic Association Ski Committee and was a founding member and served four years on the NHIAA Sportsmanship Committee. He coached the varsity softball team at Profile High School. Mr. North was an avid outdoorsman and bird hunter. He served as chief instructor of hunter safety for the NH Fish and Game Department. Family members include his wife, Donna (Severance) North of Easton; two sons, Douglas North of Harvard, Mass., and Russell North and his wife Byrony of Ira, Vt.; four grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held Sunday, Dec. 18, from 2-4 p.m. in the dining room of the Beacon Resort, Route 3, North Lincoln. , 81, a Lyndonville resident, passed away Friday, Dec. 9, 2005, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital following a lengthy illness. Among survivors is his wife, Agnes Sears, of Lyndonville. , 81, of Lyndonville, Vt., passed away Dec. 9, 2005, following a long illness. Ken was born Dec. 15, 1923, in Richford, Vt. After being raised in Sheldon Springs, he graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1941, but soon became a staunch LI supporter. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943 and discharged in 1946. Ken married Agnes Croft of Lyndonville, Vt., in 1948. He worked for French and Bean Wholesale Grocers for 25 years, and enjoyed working for Douglas McArther as an appraiser for 13 years. Ken was a long-term resident of Lyndonville, and was very involved in the community. He was Scout master of the Boy Scouts, member of the United Methodist Church, member of Crescent Lodge 66 and served as Worshipful Master for a term, and was president of Lyndonville Boys Baseball. Ken was a loving father, and never missed an event in which his children participated. Ken had a passion for golf and was a member at Orleans Country Club for over 40 years. Ken enjoyed reading and yelling at the TV as he watched sports. He was active in a Fantasy Baseball League for the past 17 years. He wintered in Ocklawaha, Fla., for several years. Ken is survived by Agnes Sears, his wife of 57 years; his siblings, Alden Sears, Ilene Duerr, Audrey Markle, Phyllis Bouthelier and Marilyn Wemitt; four children and their spouses, Paul Sears of Lyndonville, Marcia Woodall of Goshen, N.Y., Jim and his wife Debra Sears of Lyndonville, and Scott and his wife Kim Sears of Williston. Ken was most proud of his five grandchildren, Tricia Sears of Lebanon, N.H., Cassie Butler of San Diego, Calif., Valerie Woodall of Brooklyn, N.Y., Emily Woodall of Goshen, N.Y., and Carly Sears of Williston, Vt.; his two great-grandchildren, Kayden and Michael Butler III of San Diego, Calif.; brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Dorothy Croft; and several nieces and nephews. Ken was predeceased by his sister, Maxine Heald. Visiting hours will be held at Lyndonville United Methodist Church, Thursday, Dec. 15, from 5-7 p.m. A memorial service is set for Friday, Dec. 16, at the United Methodist Church in Lyndonville at 11 a.m., and the family will join you for food and fellowship following the service. Pauline Dwinell

died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2005, at Central Vermont Hospital in Berlin after a brief illness. She passed as she lived, surrounded by her husband, children and grandchildren. She believed home and family were the most important things in life and she lived that way. She married Sterling Dwinell on July 4, 1953. They lived in various locations in central Vermont before settling in Berlin in 1957 where she went to work building the Dwinell Homestead that the family still calls home today. She was the primary caregiver for her husband Sterling after an accident left him legally blind in 1962 and she worked at National Clothespin for 20 years. After Sterling's retirement in 1990, they spent countless hours fishing, visiting friends, keeping up the homestead and passing time at the family camp. She enjoyed working with her hands, knitting, crocheting, watching the Cowboys and Patriots, cooking and gardening. Holidays always meant dinner at Gram's, including her "World Famous" sticky rolls, apple sauce and chocolate pie. She is survived by her husband, Sterling Dwinell; sister, Betty Guthrie; son, Jim Dwinell; daughters, Linda Conrad and Debbie Graves; grandson, Edward Dwinell; granddaughter, Mandy Dwinell; and great-grandchildren, Jared and Eliza, all of whom will miss her greatly. There will be a gathering at the Dwinell Homestead, 163 Stewart Road, Berlin, following the service. Those who wish to send flowers should know she would say she liked all flowers "as long as they were red."

, of Oak Street, St. Johnsbury, passed away suddenly early Monday morning, Dec. 12, 2005, at the age of 57. He was born Feb. 9, 1948, in Coaticook, Quebec, and was the son of Ludger and Laurette (Scott) Gauthier. His mother, Laurette Hier, survives him. Ray attended St. Johnsbury Trade School. He married Susan Jenkins Aug. 22, 1970. He worked at Northeast Tool for 17 years and was currently employed by St. Johnsbury Academy both as a custodian and instructional assistant in auto studies. He was a member of VFW Post 10038 in Lyndonville. Besides his mother, Laurette Hier of Berlin N.H., he is survived by his wife, Susan Gauthier of St. Johnsbury (79 Oak St., 05819); his daughter, Shelly May and her husband Edward of Gainesville, Ga. (3420 Osceola Trail, 30506); his son, Ryan Gauthier and Sarah Richey of Colchester, Vt. (186 Woodbine by the Lake #2, 05446); twin granddaughters, Katlyn and Courtney May, and Sarah's daughter, Sadie Moody; his twin sister, Ramona Solari and her husband Douglas of Englewood, Fla.; brothers, Paul Gauthier and his wife Linda of Chocowinity, N.C., and David Gauthier and his wife Tracey of Virginia Beach, Va.; mother-in-law, Wilma Dodge and her husband Ralph of South Wheelock; brothers-in-law, Ronald Jenkins of St. Johnsbury, and Blakely Jenkins and his wife Christine of St. Johnsbury; sister-in-law, Sherry Jenkins of Lyndon Corner; and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held this Friday at 11 a.m. at the North Congregational Church. The pastor, the Rev. Jay Sprout, will officiate with selected readings by Fr. Richard O'Donnell of St. Johns Church. Following cremation, his remains will be buried in the springtime with military honors at the family lot in Woodmont Cemetery in East Burke where his infant son, Scott, is buried. Visiting hours will be held at the Sayles Funeral Home Thursday evening from 5-8 p.m. Ray was so proud to have served his country during the Vietnam Conflict. , 80, of Whitefield, N.H., passed away at the Morrison Nursing Home on Dec. 8, 2005. Virginia was born a daughter to William and Margaret (McEleny) Cody on April 9, 1925, in Bretton Woods, N.H. She attended area schools. Virginia is survived by two sons, Warren Berry Jr. of Bedford, N.H., and Wally Berry of Lisbon, N.H.; one daughter, Martha Chase of North Hampton, Mass.; and one sister, Margaret Latulip of Littleton, N.H. Her husband, Ernest Hersey, predeceased her. A graveside service will be held in the Grove Hill Cemetery in the spring.
Robert E. "Bud" Gardner

, 75, of Bethel Park, Pa., died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2005, after a long illness. Bud was born Nov. 13, 1930, to Theodore and Yvonne ( Bilodeau) Gardner in Littleton, N.H. He graduated from Littleton High School in 1949. Bud enlisted in the Navy during the Korean War and served at a Marine Air Force Base in Korea. The highlight of his tour of duty was assisting Ted Williams from his fighter when he crash-landed at the Marine Air Force Base. After his stint in the Navy, Bud worked on the construction of the Moore Dam in Littleton. He went on to work on the construction of the St. Lawrence Seaway where he met his wife Claire, whom he married in 1956. Bud worked for many years with Pittsburgh Testing Lab of Pittsburgh, which included manager of the New York office, work at the Seabrook Nuclear plant, and then the remainder of his time in Pittsburgh. Bud held a PE license in nuclear concrete and went as a consultant on nuclear concrete to Korea. He finished his working years in Rome, Ga., and then retired there, moving back to the Pittsburgh area earlier in the year. Bud was a member of the American Concrete Institute and the American Society of Testing Materials. Bud is survived by his wife of 49 years, Claire; and his children, Tracy of Philadelphia, Pa., John of Cary, N.C., Robert of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Jayson of Philadelphia, Pa.; as well his brother, Larry of Enfield, N.H. His older brother Mark predeceased him in 1974 and is survived by Mark's wife, Eleanor C. Gardner. Memorial contributions may be made in Bud's name to the Littleton Library to be added to the Yvonne B. Gardner Fund.

, 65, of Panama City Beach, Fla., formerly a longtime resident of Jefferson, N.H., passed away early on Nov. 22, 2005, at his home in Florida with his loving wife of 41 years, Pauline, by his side, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. He was born Oct. 13, 1940, in Pawtucket, R.I., the son of the late William and Rose Roy. He is survived by six sisters and one brother. He attended schools in Cumberland, R.I. He married Pauline Faille on Sept. 26, 1964. He was a master carpenter, a perfectionist in his trade and worked for the Mt. Washington Hotel/Bretton Woods for many years. After working as a carpenter, he worked for ITC Trucking Company as a tractor-trailer driver, retiring six years ago. He was an avid Ultra Lite "Paraski" flying enthusiast and owned his own plane which he spent many joyful hours working on until it was meticulous. He enjoyed flying with his friend Dana Johnson in Florida and in Vermont. He loved to hunt with his son, Ron. They hunted in New Hampshire and Vermont and shared many father and son hours together enjoying the serenity of the woods. Being a loving husband and father, Ray enjoyed any time he could spend with his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his devoted wife of 41 years, Pauline of Panama City Beach, Fla.; his son, Ron and his wife Susan of St. Johnsbury, Vt.; his granddaughters, Jessica Roy of Essex Junction, Vt., and Tara Roy of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; and his newest granddaughter, Amanda Winter of Lyndonville, Vt. A memorial service in Vermont will be held Dec. 17 at the Passumpsic Baptist Church in Passumpsic, Vt. An 11 a.m. service and dinner will follow in Fellowship Hall.

, 47, of Lyndon, Vt., died unexpectedly Monday, Dec. 12, 2005, while in West Virginia. He was born March 10, 1958, in Lancaster, N.H., son of the late Frederic B. and Sarah E. (Monahan) Spaulding. Bruce was a graduate of Lyndon Institute's Class of 1976. A fine craftsman and woodworker, Bruce and his wife Barb built and operated F. Scott's Restaurant in Lyndonville. He was an avid golfer, a NASCAR race fan, and kept an immaculate vegetable garden. He loved his family, his grandchildren and his pets. Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Barbara A. (Kaiser) Spaulding of Lyndon; his daughter, Holly Spaulding Davis and her husband Eric of Newark; two stepsons, Robert John Benton and his wife Janice Tate of Dover, N.H., and Gene Thomas Benton and his wife Kristin of Sutton; seven grandchildren, Dominique, Justin, Felix, Ti'ana, Shelby, Kiele and Aiden; five siblings, Gina Spaulding and her fiancee Jami Moss of Lancaster, N.H., James R. Spaulding and his wife Cheri of St. Johnsbury Center, Cynthia Burrington and her husband Douglas of Lyndon, Cathy Paris and her husband Eric of Lyndonville, and Cheryl Bona and her husband Brian of Lyndon; a sister in-law, Susan Spaulding of Lunenburg; his first wife, Mary Marceau of Lyndonville; several nieces and nephews; and a very close friend, Jen Croft of Lyndonville. Bruce was predeceased by his father this past Nov. 5; and his mother in 2002. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 17, at 1 p.m., at the funeral home with Mr. Ross Fields officiating. , 28, died Dec. 10, 2005, at his mother's and sister's home in Barnet. He was born March 21, 1977, in New York City. Oliver was a woodsman, a master carpenter, an artist, a poet and an organic gardener. He loved best to be in the woods around Roy Mountain and Symes Pond with his dogs, especially his beloved Natty. In recent years, he spent much of his time with troubled children and had a particular gift for helping them feel better about themselves. He was a sweet, gentle, beautiful, brilliant, huge spirit, and we will love and cherish him in our hearts until the end of time. , born April 3, 1953, in Windsor, Vt., passed away Dec. 15, 2005, in her home. She is predeceased by her father, Lawrence Tulip Sr., and survived by her mother, Lillian V. (Durden) Dow, stepfather, Walter Dow; stepmother, Betty Tulip; her husband of 32 years, Rudolph J. Hanecak Jr.; son, Rudolph J. Hanecak III; daughter, Stephanie Hanecak; sister, Lois Bromley; brother, Lawrence Tulip Jr.; and aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. She attended school in Windsor, Vt., and Lyndonville, Vt. Deborah began working in the I Wonda Book & Gift Shoppe and later became the proprietress. Earlier in her life, she had worked at the Windsor House, and both the Nyack Hospital in New York and Dartmouth-Hitchcock. Deborah will be remembered for her friendly, outgoing personality, a willingness to help others, and an upbeat attitude. She loved to do crafts, cook, sew, do woodworking, and get involved in the community. Deborah was instrumental in establishing the Intertribal Pow-wow in Windsor, worked on the Windsor Skateboard Park Committee, and participated in Windsor Heritage Days. She was also a member of the Windsor-Mt. Ascutney Region Chamber of Commerce. Deborah was proud of her husband and children, and loved her family. Memorial services will be held at the Rachel S. Harlow United Methodist Church on Main Street in Windsor on Monday, Dec. 19, at 3 p.m. A reception will follow in the downstairs fellowship hall.
