, 83, of Derby, died in Glover on Friday, April 15, 2005. He was born in Coventry on November 25, 1921, the son of Laurent and Alberta (Tetreault) Bergeron. Mr. Bergeron farmed for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a big hockey fan. He is survived by his brother, Lawrence Bergeron, and his wife, Andree, of Burlington; his sisters: Therese Bisaillon of Barton and Claire Bergeron of Barre; his special devoted niece, Helen White of Barton; his niece, Sharon Bergeron of South Burlington; his nephews: Lawrence and Mark Schlegel of Connecticut, David Schlegel of Tennessee, and Michael Bergeron of Colchester; his brother-in-law, Fred Schlegel of Connecticut; and his special friend, Marion Wood. He was predeceased by his sister, Rita Schlegel. A Mass of Christian burial was scheduled Wednesday, April 20, at St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Newport at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Peter O'Leary officiating. Interment will take place at St. Mary's cemetery.

, 78, of Newport died in Newport on Friday, April 22, 2005. Mr. Stevens was born in Newport on March 15, 1927, a son of Fred and Pearl (Reynolds) Stevens. He was a graduate of Newport High School. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II. He worked as a machinist at the former Butterfields Union Twist. He was a member of American Legion Newport Post No. 21. He enjoyed building two camps, one of which he sold, and he enjoyed the present camp at Lake Salem. He is survived by his wife, Frances (Mossa) Stevens, whom he married on August 4, 1951; by his daughters Gail McMullen and her husband, Laurie, of Newport and Laurie Ann Stevens of Newport; by his brothers: Edward Stevens and his wife, Leebeth, of Newport, Carl Stevens of Hartford, Connecticut, and Mack Stevens of Florida; by his mother-in-law, Theresa Mossa, of Newport; and by his sister-in-law Maggie Stevens of Newport. He was predeceased by his siblings: Moe, Ronald, Evelyn Todd, Willard, and Gordon. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 27, at the Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Memorial Chapel on Lake Road in Newport at 1 p.m. with the Reverend Roger Fletcher officiating. Calling hours will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Derby Center Cemetery with full military honors. Helen "Snook" Boutilier

, 80, of Oakfield, Maine, died Monday, April 18, 2005, at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, Maine, with her daughter and granddaughter at her side. Mrs. Boutilier was born December 22, 1924, in Oakfield, a daughter of the late James and Helen (Sherman) Swallow. Snook was an avid Red Sox fan and stuck by her team long enough to finally see them win a World Series. She loved John Wayne and Charles Bronson movies. She was a great card player, especially cribbage, and took great pleasure in telling her opponents, "That was a bad play and I'll tell you why." She loved summers spent at the old camp on Skitacook Lake, where she and her sisters demolished the population of most species of fish. She enjoyed birds and wildflowers. She loved picnics at Bill Boutilier's camp on St. Croix Lake with her picnic family: Arthur and Cathy Briggs, Keith and Brenda Hersey, and John, Crystal and Colton Folsom. She loved spending time with her special friends Gayleen Leavitt and her niece Amber McGary. She was a woman of stong opinions and wasn't afraid to express those opinions. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She is missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Ronald Boutilier; by two daughters, Anne Odgers and her husband, Jim, of Island Falls, Maine, and Brenda Farrar and her husband, Arnold, of Oakfield; by grandchildren Jennifer Hersey and her fiancé, Kirk Cleveland, of Barton and Nathan Hersey and his fiancée, Michelle St. Peter, of Old Town, Maine; by stepgrandchildren: Lisa and Larkin Odgers of Connecticut and Foss Odgers and his wife, Nicole, of Alaska; by stepgreat-grandchildren Morgan Odgers of Connecticut and Turner Odgers of Alaska; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Sis Fisher and Betty Shields; and by a brother, Paul "Bunyan" Swallow. A graveside service will be held May 21 in the Oakfield Cemetery. Richard L. "Dick" Sartelle Sr.

, 69, died Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington surrounded by his family after fighting a long illness. Mr. Sartelle was born on April 8, 1935, and raised in Barre. He was a son of the late Everett Sartelle and Gladys (Grey) Sartelle. He was a veteran of the Korean War and a former commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 798 of Newport and Masons Lodge No. 16. He was a member of Eagles Post No. 4329. He leaves behind his wife of 43 years, Anita (Webb) Sartelle of Stanstead, Quebec, five children and their spouses: Sheryl Sartelle and her companion, Rodney Graves, of Burlington, Chris and Sherry Sartelle of Williston, Angela Gillman of Plattsburgh, New York, Stacy Sartelle of Burlington, and Richard and Lisa Sartelle of Henderson, Nevada; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many other beloved friends and family. Funeral services were held April 25 at a Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Newport with the Reverend Roger Fletcher officiating. Interment followed in the Newport Center Cemetery with military honors.
Joseph E. Rodin

, 96, died April 20, 2005. Mr. Rodin was born July 28, 1908. He was on his own form at age 16, working his way up through many jobs such as farming, cabinet work, Civilian Conservation Corps, meat cutter, Coast Guard, and the U.S. Border Pattrol. He retired as a U.S. Immigration inspector, having the ability to speak four languages. He was on the Border Patrol pistol team. He boxed in the New York Golden Gloves and local matches for pickup money and got his general equivalency diploma at age 65. He was a 71-year Mason and enjoyed fishing, socializing, and a long retirement. He was married to Pauline Erickson for 65 years, and together they had three sons: Jim, Dick, and Pete and a daughter, Laura. They had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren throughout the country. He and his wife's ashes will be reunited in the Kingdom.

, 46, of Newport Center died in Newport on Saturday, April 16, 2005. Mrs. Roberge was born in Newport on February 22, 1959, a daughter of the late Clayton and Janet (Morrisette) Bressett. She worked as a saw operator at Newport Panels in North Troy. She enjoyed spending time with her grandson Hunter. On August 10, 1996, she married Rejean Roberge, who survives her. She is also survived by her children: Leo Verge Jr. of Springfield, Toni Verge of Newport Center, Ryan Roberge of Newport Center, and Clayton Roberge of Pike, New Hamsphire; by her grandson Hunter Bressett Roberge of Newport Center; by her brothers Benjamin and Raymond; by her sister Josephine Langlois and her husband, Walley, of Newport, New Hampshire; and by several nieces and nephews. , 93, of Newport Center died peacefully April 23, 2005, at her home with her family at her side. Mrs. Lalime was born November 24, 1911, in Manchester, New Hampshire, a daughter of Walter and Pauline (Arpin) James. On January 3, 1940, she married Eugene Lalime, who predeceased her on January 10, 1977. She grew up in Manchester, Troy, and Westfield. She was a homemaker and a cook for many years at the original East Side Restaurant on East Main Street in Newport. She was a 50-year member of the Daughters of Isabella, Clermont Circle, and at one time she was an active Scouts wife with Troop No. 4. She is survived by her children: Anne Lalime of Newport, Walter Lalime and his wife, Carole, of Burlington, and Katharyn Girouard and her husband, Spencer, of Lyman, New Hampshire; by eight grandchildren: Philip, David, Michael, Mark, Monica, Joanne, and Jennifer Lalime, and Kenneth Girouard; by two great-grandchildren, Aidan and Cullen Lalime; by a brother, Robert James, and his wife, Helen, of San Diego, California; by two sisters, Doris Hamel of Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, and Jeannine Encinas and her husband, Dr. Senen, of Spring Hill, Florida; by two sisters-in-law, Marita Lalime of Derby Line and Georgette Lalime of North Troy; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one brother; and by three sisters. Funeral services were held April 26 at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Newport with the Reverend Yvon Royer celebrating a Mass of Christian Burial. , 100, of Newport died peacefully April 23, 2005, in Newport. Mrs. Eppler was born November 30, 1904, in Wind Gap, Pennsylvania, a daughter of Thomas and Carrie (Imler) Rice. On September 2, 1933, she married Oliver Rudolph Eppler, who predeceased her. She was a secretary for a furniture mill in New Jersey for many years. She held membership with the United Church of Newport and the Methodist Church in Beverly, New Jersey, prior to her move to Vermont. She also held membership with the Order of the Eastern Star in New Jersey where she was worthy matron and past district deputy. She enjoyed knitting something for every choir member at the United Church at Easter and Christmas. She is survived by two daughters, Anna Lee Eppler of Newport and Peggy Jordan and her husband, Paul, of Newport.; by the following grandchildren: Alan David Jordan, Mark Paul Jordan, Cynthia Marie Jordan, and Elaine Lee Eppler; by three great-grandchildren: Katherine and Christopher Jordan and Lily May Markwell; by a sister, Maxine Marquette, of Pottstown, Pennsylvania; and by several nieces and nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a son, Charles Thomas Eppler; and by a sister, Margaret Deibler. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date at the United Church of Newport. , 60, of Newport Center died suddenly in Newport on Friday, April 22, 2005. Mrs. Alexander was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, on September 4, 1944, a daughter of Axel and Muriel (Chandler) Johnson. She moved to Newport Center from Griswold, Connecticut, eight years ago. She was a registered nurse, working at Union House Nursing Home in Glover. She loved her career and served at several nursing homes in the area. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and she loved her flower garden. On May 6, 1966, she married John Alexander Sr., who survives her. She is also survived by her mother, Muriel Johnson, of Griswold; by her children: Kimberly Grohocki-Cicio and her husband, Tim, of Coventry, John Alexander Jr. and his wife, Crystal, of Coventry, and Laura Alexander-Mackin and her husband, Dan, of Griswold; by her grandchildren: Johnathan and Tabatha Grohocki, Timothy Cicio Jr., Elizabeth, Madison, and Cody Alexander, and Echo, Ty, and Willow Alexander-Mackin; by her brother Joseph Johnson of Florida; by her sisters Susan Christie of Griswold and Sarah Borrows of Kansas; by her uncle John Peebles of Springfield, Massachusetts; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
